THE BUILDING INSPECTOR OF AMERICA

Vimal Kapoor performed an extremely detailed and thorough home inspection for us on a house that we were under contract on. He took between 4-5 hours to go over all of the details with us step by step, and explained everything he found along the way. His final report documented everything he said, complete with additional details, photos and helpful information. Most importantly, he gave us solid advice about additional tests we should pursue given that the house had an underground oil tank. Because of Vimal, we rapidly sought out a company that could perform the testing he recommended, which revealed a major problem with the home (an expansive oil leak that permeated the environment, foundation, and basement of the house). If it were not for Vimal's expertise, we would have been in a terrible--and terribly expensive--situation. We ultimately walked and will certainly use him again once we are under contract on another home.

Charlie Holpuch our home inspector was wonderful and very professional. I was very pleased with my home inspection. He was very patient and very knowledgable. He spends four hours to inspected a 2000sqf home. He have answers all my questions and educate me along through the whole process. What I like about him is he loves of what he's doing and take pride in his work. Unlike any other inspectors who rushes through the process just to collect our money and be done with it. I'm very happy I found "The building inspector of America" and Charlie Holpuch. I would definitely recommend him to all my friends and family in the near future. Give them a call and You won't regret this !!!

This could not have been a better home inspection process. Charlie, the inspector, met us at the property and clearly had done his homework as he greeted me (the buyer) and my real estate agent by name. He then spent the next four and a half hours going through the house in the most thorough manner possible, taking time to explain everything that he was seeing, include me in the process, and ensure that I not only knew what he was going to report, but how to rectify any issues that he found. He was methodical, thorough, and exceptionally knowledgeable. In addition, he sent over the inspection report the morning after the inspection, and clearly did a lot of work going through and ensuring that the details and photographs were all documented. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone else!

I cannot believe how thorough and complete our home inspection by Charles Holpuck was. My husband and I learned an enormous amount of information about our new home and how to care for it. We feel armed with the information we need to keep it in tip-top shape, whereas prior to the inspection we had little idea of how to fix things or warning signs to be aware of as we maintain our home. Charles was professional, kind, and patient. We asked a lot of questions and he was always sure to answer our questions fully and completely. The written report we received had photos and prioritization of the different improvements/fixes he recommended. Thank you, thank you to Charles and The Building Inspector of America!

Vimal is excellent. He's extremely professorial, which means he really wants you to learn about your new house and about any issues you have or that may arise. He will not stop explaining something to you until he is absolutely sure that you've fully understood it. He's also practical and doesn't go overboard with recommendations, but won't shy away from giving you ideas on things you can do to improve your home and how to prioritize. The original inspection on our house lasted almost 4 hours, with Vimal going through every inch of our house and checking everything thoroughly. It is clear that Vimal cares very much about ensuring that he does his inspections right and will take the right amount of time to do that. He also clearly tries very hard to be objective and the report he provided with photos was top-notch and extremely helpful for my wife and I as first-time homeowners. We hired Vimal again several months after our original inspection to help us resolve an issue we had with a contractor who worked on our crawlspace. Vimal had clear expertise in how crawlspaces should be encapsulated and provided us with critical expert support during discussions with our contractors. With his help, we were able to get a full refund from the contractor and have them clean up the shoddy work that they did. Additionally, Vimal helped us understand what to look for in the next contractor that we hire and lent us some helpful reading material. Overall, our experience with Vimal was truly exceptional. He's probably not the cheapest inspector out there but his advice and knowledge is worth every penny.

We had Paul come out for both the pre-drywall inspection and later for the inspection at our walkthrough for final purchase of a home being built for us. He beat us to the meeting place each time and had started on the exterior inspection. He was very thorough in both inspections and the end product detailing issues with annotated pictures was fantastic to have. His communication on site was fantastic, explaining various items to my wife and I. While I was impressed with his knowledge, the thing that surprised and impressed me the most was the mutual respect between he and our builder. Paul not only pointed out items that needed correction, he pointed out several areas where the builder went above and beyond code to provide 'best practice' level construction. I certainly feel it was well worth the cost to have these inspections done and would highly recommend this provier.

Carol at the office was prompt, courteous and professional. Paul, who did the inspection, was also very professional. More importantly, he was extremely thorough. It was clear he was working specifically for us and not simply to make the transaction go through as some inspectors do. Paul pointed out several things that ultimately allowed us to negotiate a better price.

I had a home inspection performed prior to closing on my first home purchase. The inspector was professional and friendly, explaining various things that he was checking as he performed the inspection. Most of the inspection was excellent and very thorough, so I was initially very happy with the service. Unfortunately, after moving in I discovered some significant problems were overlooked that I would have rather known about prior to purchasing my home. I was initially offered a partial refund, but some miscommunications between parties left the situation unresolved. After posting a negative review, I was immediately contacted by the owner who went to great effort to make up for the problems I experienced and refunded the full cost of my inspection. I'm not sure what happened in this situation, since they look like an otherwise reliable business and the inspector I worked with seemed like a good person, so I'm updating my review to reflect that.

A one point he said suggested that if there was a "man" in the home at the time I purchased (or maybe when the home inspection happened) that they would have helped when I bought the home/or had the general contractor over after purchase. I asked why would that matter(he assumed that having a man in the house would make the difference?? in what??). He did do a great report on assessing what should be done and in what order. When I asked him what kind of professional would do what, he said to hire a general contractor instead of just telling me. I emailed him after getting the report asking for some questions. He called me back and said that he already went "over" budget" on me and begrudgingly answered some questions over the phone. I asked him to email his responses. He finally did after he asked for 2 separate recommendations on Angie's list.

My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a remodeled cape cod in Silver Spring, Maryland. It was very important for us to find a good home inspector to identify any major deficiencies or problems with the home. We searched Angie's list and other Internet sites for three days reading reviews and consistently found that "The Building Inspector of America" was the most recommended and highly rated. In fact, we did not find a bad review about them. Their website was very informative, offering a detailed curriculum vitae for each inspector. We ended up going with the owner, Vimal Kapoor, and believe me, he did not disappoint. Mr. Kapoor was amazing! He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. He explained everything in layman's terms, identifying every necessary repair and/or projects that we could do at a later date to improve the quality of the home. Within a day after the inspection, Mr. Kapoor provided us with a detailed written report that included pictures and identified all of the repairs and improvements. In my situation, I am dealing with a relocation company, which can be very stressful at times. Well, it turns out Mr. Kapoor wrote the guidelines that relocation companies follow when they conduct their pre-inspections on homes. Therefore, when it came time to negotiate the cost of the repairs, Mr. Kapoor's word went a long way. More specifically, we shared the inspection report with the relocation company and asked for them to cover all of the necessary repairs. They originally offered us $1,000. I immediately phoned Mr. Kapoor and he patiently went through each of the repairs, providing me with estimates. The total estimate ended up being $5,500. Armed with the estimates, I countered the relocation company's offer with the $5,500 amount. When they learned that Mr. Kapoor provided the estimates, they accepted and agreed to give me the the full $5,500 for the repairs. Furthermore, Mr. Kapoor told me that after I closed on the house and was ready to do some of the home improvements he had suggested, I should feel free to give him a call with any questions. If we had one complaint, it was initially the cost for the inspection. We found the cost to be about $150 more on average then many of the other home inspectors. HOWEVER, when we considered the expertise and customer service "The Building Inspector of America" provided to us, the extra money was well worth it. The way I look at it: "The Building Inspector of America" saved me $4,500. I would definitely use them again, and I HIGHLY recommended Mr. Kapoor, especially in the D.C. area market where there are a plethora of old homes that have problems.

The inspector, Charlie, was very professional, very patient. He spent about three and a half hours checking the 1100 sq foot unit we planned to buy. Strongly recommend.

The inspector was on time and prepared for the inspection. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. The inspection took around four hours and culminated with a detailed electronic report.

The Building Inspector of America was the most responsive of all the firms contacted; their price was in the middle range of bids. Carol Toeller their Operations Manager was responsive, professional and keep me informed as the schedule issues proceeded with our builder. I have just received a digital copy of their report complete with pictures and comments. The issues seem fairly presented and will be the basis for our discussion with the builder. The inspection did what we had hoped, it provided an independent, professional review of the construction of our new tract home. We will probably use them again for the final inspection.

I've known I needed work done on my nearly 100 year old house, but didn't know where to start. Vimal Kapoor put me at ease and was very thorough. I also had a chimney service provider out during Vimal''s inspection so he was able to provide a second opinion for those recommendations. The chimney guy was in awe of what Vimal knew despite not being a chimney expert. I feel that, in addition to getting an inspection with detailed notes, I'm also getting a game plan as Vimal is helping me figure out what is most urgent, and where I need to focus my attention first. It was money well spent.

I am a DIYer and was very hesitant about spending so much money for what I believed would be a walkthru where an inspector pointed out the obvious. However, Paul did a fantastic job and was well worth the price. Here are the highlights: (1) he was timely (actually early) and was walking around taking pictures when I showed up; (2) he noticed obvious things such as cracks in the steps and disjointed tile, but also noticed a slight grading in the yard which has become more apparent during the rain; (3) he noticed things that he is not required to pay attention to, such as burrows that were from termites (the termite inspector was coming anyway, and the termite guy said pretty much what Paul said); (4) very thorough review of the electrical systems and he walked me through how to maintain my old furnace; and (5) he was pleasant. I did not feel rushed or that he was just punching a clock, but I felt like he was truly inspecting and informing me of the overall condition of my home. I would definitely use him again and would ask specifically for Paul.

Mr. Kapoor is an extremely knowledgable, meticulous and accessible professional. We have used his services twice, and did not purchase the first home due to his significant findings. He demonstrates integrity and he supersedes his qualifications (including ASHI certification). He goes the extra mile-- in the quality of his work and his customer service. We have already recommended his service to friends, and recommend that you look no further when trying to finding a home inspector or radon inspector.

I am planing to buy a 100 year old house, a foreclosure and I was not sure about the condition of foundation, roof, water leaking, etc. I selected The Building Inspector of America (Prime Property Inspectors) from Angie's list website due to the user rating and comments. Ron (Ronald Meely), the Senior Inspector, provided excellent service. He arrived earlier and was very courteous and professional. He listened to our concerns. He carefully and thoroughly checked everything, especially the items we are mostly concerned. Ron is very knowledgeable. He spent more than 3 hours with us, explained to us about his founding and opinion, answered all questions from me and my wife. When he know we plan to buy the house as a rental property, he give us a lot of useful advice. After the inspection my wife and I made the purchasing decision right away. The report is very detail. All problems and suggested fixes were pointed out, with a lot of pictures. We will use it for future repair or remodeling. In addition, Carol is wonderful. She scheduled the inspection for me with a lot of useful advice. The experience from beginning to end was super. If I need another home inspection, I will call The Building Inspector of America and Ron again.

Paul Wehrli was extremely thorough and discovered many items that needed to be repaired/replaced in order to move in. His report allowed us a very good negotiating position on the amount of credit for repairs prior to purchase. I felt confident he made a thorough investigation of the house and that he knew what he was doing. I highly recommend him for anyone performing a home inspection.

Fantastic. Vimal was very courteous and professional. He encouraged me to accompany him on the inspection and answered all of my questions even if they may not have been directly related to the inspection process.

Thoroughness and then some. Charles Holpuch, my inspector, was there for 6 hours -- the longest inspection my realtor ever witnessed! The abundance of time was all about answering my questions and providing additional information at no additional fee. While the degree of detail was overwhelming, I felt confident moving forward with the purchase after such a close inspection. The report I received was instructive and easy to read and will be a long-time resource as I gradually take care of the recommendations. The recommendations were clearly marked in terms of priorities for safety, too. Okay, he missed a very slow-running bathtub drain and a leaky outside faucet but all his other good advice compensates for that as far as I'm concerned. I should also add that Charles made the process that much better with his humor, friendliness and professionalism. He likes what he's doing and takes pride in his work -- your guarantee for good service. As far as the company as a whole, the intake and scheduling process was likewise excellent.

The home inspection was great! Staff is very prompt, professional, informative, and helpful. Mr. Kapoor is very thorough and provides an extensive report of anything and everything that needs to be fixed or addressed. I have asked several questions since he has visited and he is always quick to respond. Not only is he very knowledgeable, but he has a great demeanor. This is the second time we have had a home inspected and he is by far a much better provider from our previous experience. If you want a peace of mind, I highly recommend their services.

He never thoroughly inspected the chimney on the roof so it's difficult to gauge how accurate his inspection was.

As soon as I called The Building Inspector of America, I was greeted by Carol. Carol was very friendly and informative. She also didn't mind coordinating with our lender and real estate agent. Our inspector Paul arrived 15 minutes early and was already on the roof when we showed up. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions. He immediately knew we were first time home buyers and explained what he was doing every step of the way. The employees of this company made a stressful process a little bit easier!

The service, level of professionalism, and expertise from Mr. Kapoor and Carol at BIA were outstanding. Having talked with three waterproofing/drainage companies, we were completely at a loss as to what to do because all three companies had different recommendations! We urgently needed an outside professional who did not have "skin in the game" to give us an independent assessment and recommendations. Thank goodness for BIA and Mr. Kapoor! 1. Smoothness of the process: From the first phone call to get information from Carol, through scheduling the appointment, a preliminary phone call with Mr. Kapoor, the inspection, and the report, they were both extremely responsive and helpful. Everything was right on time and smooth as silk. 2. Expertise and inspection: Mr. Kapoor has encyclopedic knowledge of houses and their potential problems. He was extremely informative, answering every (very detailed!) question that we had. He explained every step of what he was doing and why he reached the conclusions that he did. He talked with us first, made a detailed examination of the outside of the house, talked with us again, and made a detailed examination of the basement, and then wrapped up with an overview of his recommendations. His inspection and comments were incredibly precise and in-depth. 3. Report: Mr. Kapoor sent a thorough, detailed written report with pictures of the problem areas, detailed recommendations, and an accurate diagram of the house showing what needs to be done. He also sent us the complete mold report. In all my years of home ownership and working with contractors, I've never seen a report as good as this one. We're moving forward with the recommendations with confidence. Working with BIA was a wonderful experience.
