The house has been well-maintained, I've re-stained it every few years as necessary since it was built. Finally I got tired of doing it myself and got a few quotes for the work. SDR didn't come out to provide an estimate, they had me send pictures of each side of the house instead, and answer a questionnaire. Innovative, I thought. They warned me they were very busy and it might be 3-4 weeks before they could even find time to provide an estimate, and 3-4 months before they could start the work. I called them a week later as I had the other quotes already, and within a few days they were able to provide their quote. It's obvious they didn't want the job, as their quote was THREE TIMES the price of the outfit I hired, and I didn't hire the lowest bidder. I'm looking for a high-quality job at a fair price. My front porch ceiling just needed a light cleaning and one coat of stain, as it doesn't see any weather, had never had a coating on it, and wasn't greyed. They wanted over $3000 just for the porch ceiling. I could hire a carpenter to replace the ceiling for less than that! The quote was very detailed, to the point that they had a line item for travel time, calculated down to the penny. Because I was switching stain products, they quoted a very aggressive power washing, which does enough damage to the wood that the entire house would need to be sanded before staining. Instead of SDR, I hired a Class A general contractor who has built over 150 log homes. He came out right away to see the house and quote the job in person, and suggested an approach that was not as damaging to the logs. He used a chemical stripper followed by a light power-washing to make the logs look like new, then two coats of stain. On the positive side SDR was very professional to deal with, and answered all of my questions thoroughly over several phone calls. If they can stay as busy as they are at the exorbitant rates they charge then I guess they are successful, but they won't be getting any of my money.
Description of Work: Needed my log home cleaned and re-stained. The review is here as there is no category on Angie's List for log home maintenance.

While it is true that we did quote this job, several claims in the above post are untrue. First, the quote was not for $24,000.00 dollars. It was for $21,854.01. Most specifically he claims, unfairly and falsely, that we were going to just use high pressure on his home. WE NEVER DO THAT. We quoted to strip the home, with a chemical stripping method just the same as the other company he hired did. Furthermore, as the instructors for the PWNA's Wood Restoration & Preservation Certification class we take our work on wood very seriously, using only correct methods. We do not appreciate this false and extremely inaccurate claim. Our website located at https://www.seedirtrun.com outlines our methods. This quote, compared to the company he hired and the services he specified in his post, do not match. Our quote contained a number of optional items that he doesn't mention among the services performed by the other company. He mentions that the other company quoted to strip and then apply two coats of stain. If he had subtracted the line items that were optional so that he was comparing apples to apples, our total would have been $15,867.72. We want the readers of this website to have a more accurate account of this particular inquiry for services, which contained many inaccuracies and falsehoods. Should you have questions about this particular service please contact our office directly, and don't rely false internet postings. Thank you.

I contacted the provider via online questionaire on May 15, 2015. I was called immediately and told to send some photos of the house, which I did. They followed up with a questionnaire which I filled out. Didn't hear anything for a week, so I emailed them the following: "It's been a week. Haven't heard anything. I guess you're not interested in my business???" They responded: "It's not that at all. It's alot like the week before Christmas in retail here. We are working non-stop, with little to no time off and getting time to quote these jobs is not easy, since Rod is out most days. You have not been forgotten. Thank you for your patience. We will be in touch." Didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks, so I called. Although pleasant enough, it was basically a run around. Said they couldn't get to the job until October! And they would contact me in a month. Never heard a word. Meanwhile, I found someone else, more local, who did a fantastic job for half the price SeeDirtRun quoted (over the phone). I have no idea what kind of work they do.

We are glad you found someone to take care of your home. Our website clearly states how backed up we are, and we tell everyone on the phone how busy we are. It's not a story, it's the truth. We are sorry we couldn't get to you in the time frame you desired, but we never told you we could get to you any faster. Our large projects tend to book us out farther, faster than companies that don't do too many of them. For this reason alone we are typically booked out months in advance. We already have out deck customers inline for next year, 2016. We wish you the best, although we do feel your response was unfair since we were very , very up front with you.

The crew arrived right on time. They were courteous and professional. They did a great job cleaning our house. Some parts of the house had not been cleaned in a while but when they were done it all looked great. Some of the trim was especially discolored and they got it all looking like new. They did a great job cleaning our house and were careful not to damage any of the landscaping while they were working. We did not want a high pressure clean of our siding and were able to get a sparkling clean house without the risk of damaging the siding because they used a low pressure system.

We found this company on the web over 10 years ago after having a disastrous experience with a company that did not know how to work with Ipe wood. We thought he had permanently marred the wood. Rod and Beth reassured us that they would make the decks look like new, and they did. We have worked with them ever since, having them return every year and every time they make our decks and flagstone walkways and patio and even our gutters look brand new. They are very honest, professional, reliable, and knowledgeable, and pay assiduous attention to detail. They are extremely careful not to damage shrubs, plants and groundcover in any way. They cover everything nearby so there is not a speck of stain anywhere but on the decks and stairs where it is supposed to be. Scheduling is such a headache for them as they can only work when the weather permits them to do so. That said, they are very conscientious about their clients and are excellent at customer service. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Power washed and sealed/stained two Ipe decks, power washed gutter exteriors to remove mildew, power washed flagstone walkway, stepping stones, patio and stoop, and power washed and sealed/stained inside and outside enclosed screened Ipe porch including removing and reinstalling after cleaning all the screens on the porch.

The initial consult was very informative. The owners showed up on time with brochures and descriptions and stayed for over an hour answering our many questions. They were knowledgeable about their products and services. We got 2 other estimates, one higher and one lower, but went with this group as they seemed the most well informed about the work. Once scheduled, the owners and crew showed up at the scheduled time every day and worked hard until the end of the day. They estimated the work to take a week and it was completed after 4 extra-long working days. We have a log home. As we learned, the wood on a log home needs to be treated every so often to limit degradation of the wood and infestation. The first day, they applied a product to strip the existing stain and years of damage, discoloration and pollutants, including pollen, etc. Then they power washed the entire house, both decks and all deck rails and then applied a neutralizer to everything. This required at least three trips around the entire 2 floor house and they finished this step in a day! The next day, they had to sand down every log to eliminate the wood that was raised in the process the day before. The following two days were spent staining everything and applying a seal over the stain. The team worked together like a well oiled machine. They rarely rested and were constantly going up and down ladders, moving their equipment and completing this labor intensive work. I really can't believe how hard the entire crew worked. Unbelievable. If you find the price daunting, consider the fact that this crew of 5 worked all day for 4 extra-long days and had all of the necessary equipment and the materials and supplies. Also keep in mind the sheer number of products applied - there were at least 4 costly products applied in their many rotations around the house. It was money well spent and well earned. The house looks beautiful. I really had no idea it could look this good. It looks brand new and I feel better knowing it's been protected from the elements. And they left a clean site. No plants were damaged, everything was cleaned up. The owners and crew were very nice and worked extremely well together. I have no complaints and I'd recommend them to anyone with a log home or someone who simply needs their deck refinished.

I was able to make an appointment quickly. My initial appointment was cancelled, but rescheduled within the same week. I had concerns regarding how the power washing would affect my sliding. My house is about 40 years old and has aluminum siding and the original paint. They explained their cleaning procedures clearly including the degree of pressure and cleaning substances they would use. The cleaning went well with no adverse affects on my siding. My only comment is that I wish they had notified me about 30 minutes before they arrived. I would have liked being present.

They did superior work. They called us at work on the color of the stain as they felt it may be darker then we wanted once they started. My husband asked if they could stop and let us look at it when we returned home. They stopped working until we called back that evening to say we didn't see that much of a difference and was happy to have them continue with it. Impressive! They are worth waiting for as their schedule is busy.

We felt like we struck gold when we found See Dirt Run! on the web eleven years ago, and we have hired them every summer since then. We had just installed new Ipe decks, and our then low-cost deck cleaner told us he could wash and stain them without any problem. We thought our decks were ruined. Rob and Beth to the rescue! Each year, they make our decks and porch look brand new. The same is true for all our much older flagstone walkways and patio. Every job for them is a work of art. They are seasoned professionals who are extremely knowledgeable and articulate about the technical aspects of all types of wood and how to preserve/protect/clean/stain them, especially the exotic woods. They are meticulous, organized, efficient, and thorough, and they pay close attention to detail. They take great pains to make sure that all areas adjacent to the decks/porch are covered so they are not affected by the power washing or inadvertently stained. Never have I had any problems whatsoever with the plants or shrubs in the vicinity where they worked. Rob was careful not to get any water near the baseboard woodwork when he power washed the garage floor. They do their work carefully and methodically. They pay close attention to the weather to make sure the wood is completely dried after cleaning and before staining. They have someone who always answers the phone and will sometimes call in the evening to notify you that the deck will be stained the next day if no rain is in the forecast. Rob and Beth, married co-owners, are honest, hard-working, intelligent, and very customer-oriented and also delightful to work with. I strongly recommend them.
Description of Work: Power washed and sealed/stained two Ipe decks and a lattice enclosure, power washed gutter exteriors to remove mildew, and power washed flagstone walkway, stepping stones, patio and stoop. In the past and again this August/September, washed and sealed/stained inside and outside enclosed screened Ipe porch, power washed entire house and power washed garage floor.

Description of Work: My husband Mitch and I selected See Dirt Run! Inc to wash our house, and were thrilled with them. The office staff was knowledgeable and very helpful in answering all of my questions. The work crew was polite, professional and courteous. They took their time cleaning the siding and scrubbed areas that were very challenging to get it as clean as possible. Our home was very overdue for a good cleaning. There are many trees around our home so it gets pretty dirty. They were also very careful around my flower and herb garden, which I really appreciated. We recommend them without hesitation and will use them again when the time comes. Thank you for such a thorough job!

They did a wonderful job. They were very conscientious. They took their time with the job. They broke a flood light which they told me up front and the office reimbursed me right away. They actually showed up early. They were suppose to come in the afternoon but came in the morning which was fine by me but I would have liked a phone call to let me know the time had changed. The office was really responsive every time I called or emailed. I got all my questions asked promptly. I would definitely use this company again.

See Dirt Run has cleaned and stained our log home for nearly 10 years now. Our initial project for them was to remove the old stain with a strong power wash, which would make the logs rough. They hand sanded each log, repaired any damaged or rotting logs, restrained the chinking (between the logs), stained and sealed the logs. Our house still looks like new! The following visits were for maintenance, cleaning, resealing, staining and repair of sun damaged logs. See Dirt Run does an excellent job. I highly recommend them for your woodwork.

We are terribly sorry that we were unable to keep that appointment time-frame. We do not ever give a precise hour or time that we will arrive for an estimate because we take our time with each client and for that reason, we give a very wide window. We typically tell our customer it will be morning or afternoon. Many service companies do this. We are the same way. Our office manager called to inform you as soon as he found out how very long Mr. Rodriguez's day had become. One of his stops that day took two hours, so that he could thoroughly discuss the home with the owner. Our office manager tried to contact you again on a couple of occasions to try to reschedule the estimate. We never heard back from you. We apologized for the inconvenience and we have in good faith tried to reschedule with you, but if you do not allow us the opportunity by returning our calls there is little else we can do. We wish you the best of luck with your project.

When the company was done, I noticed that they left all the sand blasting media where it fell making a mess out of our gardens. It took several hours with a shop vac to clean up the place. They made little effort to protect the flower beds and most of the flowers were destoried. After they left I noticed one of out windows was broken. When I called them about it, they said they never had that happen before. They wanted to come up and inspect the window. The next day, a second window was found broken. When they came by they said that one of there workers said the window was broken when they started, but forgot to tell them. Ultimately they agreed to pay for replacing both window panes. Over the next few days another window broke, then three weeks later a forth. When repairing the windows, i found blasting media inside of each window. I am absolutely convinced that there process caused this. They also did not take good care of our patio, they stretched a hose across the slate scratching it. They were not very pleseant to deal with and I do not reccommend them.

1. The work area was covered with tarps to reclaim and recycle the media as much as possible (we have photos of this), but the customer was made aware that not all of the media would be reclaimed, and that we removed only what was captured on the tarps. By no means was “all” of it left “where it fell”. 2. The weight of the tarps can press down on small tender plants. We have photos of the plants after the work was complete. Some had broken stems, some were bent over. The customer was aware of this as well. It is important to remember that in addition to tarps we have ladders to set up, and men working with heavy equipment and cumbersome hoses while trying to protect the home and themselves, so they are working safely. It is not possible to avoid a plant you cannot see that is covered with a tarp, when trying to blast safely. Ladders must be set at certain angles per OSHA, and workers must be able place, adjust and change them. Workers must also be able to safely ascend and descend from the ladder as they work. The customer was made aware of this and had commented that it was not a big deal and that the plants would come back. Safety must remain a top priority. There is no plant that is more important than the safety and well-being of one of our crewmen. 3. The customer contacted us the day the work was performed after our departure, October 18th, 2012, and was told Mr. Rodriguez would return his call when he got back into the office. When Mr. Rodriguez arrived in the office, he was briefed on the situation and prior to calling the customer back, called the employees who were on the job site with him that day, beginning with the technician who would have been closest in proximity to the windows. Our employee said he did in fact see the one broken window, prior to the start of the work and gave Mr. Rodriguez the location and described the way the break looked to him prior to the customer telling Mr. Rodriguez. When Mr. Rodriguez called the customer back (the evening of October 18th, 2012) and the customer described the break and the location of the one window, it matched what our employee had said, and we informed the customer of this. Mr. Rodriguez set up the date and time to visit the house and view the window, which the customer agreed to. 4. Mr. Rodriguez and I (Mrs. Borrego) arrived at the Barrow residence on time. Upon our arrival the customer told us that there was now a second broken window that he had discovered and that he did not see before he called us. All of the windows were inspected, and there were two panes of glass that exhibited a large horizontal crack with an impact point at the center of the window. Both windows were oddly identical. We asked about birds flying into the windows, and the customer said that it happens frequently in the front of the house but to his knowledge not in the rear of the house. We explained to the customer that if this had been damage from our process the windows would have been pitted at the edges, in proximity to where the work was done. He said that he was very surprised that he could not find any of that at all, no evidence of any pitting, since he had had the same service performed on a brick area of his home (with another company) and the company that did the brick work, did not use shields like we did to protect windows from damage. We always use shields to protect the windows. We found it interesting that the customer also told us that he has had problems in the past with these same windows breaking and in the same manner, and has replaced most of the panes of glass himself previously. But, the customer quickly tried to tell us this could not be the same thing. 5. We would like to note that the customer’s log home style enclosed sunroom/porch was converted from a screened in porch, and we believe there is possibly an issue with the building’s structural integrity itself, causing repeated breaking of the windows in this patterned fashion. 6. Since our employee failed to notify Mr. Rodriguez of what he saw when climbing the ladder prior to beginning the work, our company offered to replace the two panes of glass as a gesture of good faith. The customer was fine with that, and we inspected again all of the windows to make certain that no others were affected. No other windows were broken when all of the parties involved checked them. 7. The customer contacted us via email on October 29th at 2:41 pm via email, during Hurricane Sandy, to tell us that a third window was broken. We reminded him that it was not in that condition when we inspected it and came to our agreed upon arrangement, and that we have no way of knowing what might have occurred since then to break it. 8. Our office received a copy of the receipt for the two panes of glass via email on Saturday Nov. 3rd, 2012, and the check for reimbursement for the agreed upon two panes was mailed promptly on Monday Nov. 5th, 2012. 9. On November 19th, 2012, the customer indicated via email that he had found, “a forth window broken identically to the other three”. Identically? To be clear, we were last on his property to work on October 18th, and again only two windows were broken when we inspected all of the windows together during our visit to the home. 10. We have never been anything but polite and courteous to the customer. Our staff has never acted in any manner that was unprofessional or unbecoming. We have shown nothing but respect for his concerns and his property and have done our best to fairly address the issues he has raised. However, we cannot help but feel that we are being blamed for a situation that was in fact a preexisting condition of the home, one which seems to be repeating itself. 11. We invite both potential clients and current clients alike to visit our website and our video testimonials which are here: http://www.seedirtrun.com/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/521

I have been so pleased by See Dirt Run and recommend them highly. They are very knowledgeable and professional, and give information about how to care for the wood, to keep it strong and looking good as long as possible. They are timely and clean up completely afterward - the only way you know they've been there is that the wood looks beautiful. A pleasure to do business with! Please see above; I combined these two categories.
Description of Work: We have a 7-year old finnicky large deck/lattice work underneath to conceal storage, made of cedar, Trex flooring, and pine supports. This is the second time, the first time was two years ago, we contracted with See Dirt Run (SDR) to powerwash and stain the deck/lattice work, two benches, and one small bridge in our back yard. On both occasions they did an outstanding job, showing excellent understanding of how to treat a Trex deck floor and soft cedar wood. They took great pains not to get stain on our deck underdecking or the paver patios. And their clean-up left the area spotless. They are a bit pricey, but being a believer in the "you get what you pay for" mantra, I didn't mind paying their price. I will do so again gladly in two years.

It was a home based service so the calls were taken pretty late (8pm) and returned pretty promptly. Workers who came out were very polite - took 3 hours to complete work.

I sent in deposit check of 429.70 on June 13 and faxed back signed proposal sheet. We were told to expect call in early August for work to be done. In Mid-August I left two messages on their phone line asking when we could expect them. NEVER received a response. Around Labor Day weekend in early Sept. my husband left message on their phone. They returned his call the next day and said it would be maybe about a week - so this is now 4 weeks after the estimated date we were given in June when we sent in deposit. Work was completed on or around Sept. 16 - took them 3 visits to finish it. THe workers were very professional and did a good job; however, I do not think the job was worth the price of $1300, especially for only 693 square feet. When I spoke to the owner on the second day of work and voiced my issues with the company thus far (no response to messages, install more than a month late with no information in between about when install would start), the owner was rather snippy with me and stated the following: 1) They dont recall getting my messages, but then he later admitted that their office misplaced (or lost) my proposal paperwork, which probably messed their process up in terms of phone calls (??) 2) They were really busy and called to PA to do log home restoration work in July, and this put them behind schedule (would have been nice if they told us that back in early August) 3) The reason they cashed the deposit check immediately in June was because they use top-of-the-line supplies, and they have to order them up front, etc....so they need the $ to cover it. I really did not appreciate his tone, and I do not him recall being at all apologetic that we had received no return phone calls or info in August re: the status of our work schedule. Maybe he woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day, but for $1300 I really don't want the attitude, even if it is free. Lastly, I wish they had told me how much grime was going to fly all into my aluminum screened porch, and all over the siding. I was told to expect water, but wasn't told about the dirt and grime that would be left behind on the siding, and on the inside roof of the porch, which is white.
Description of Work: From the proposal document See Dirt Run provided: Power wash 693 sq ft of deck; Desk Seal with "Wood Tux" in Warm Honey Gold; replace step #5; Tighten rail system on right side of deck and install bracket by corner to tighten rails.

I (Beth Borrego) met with you directly, and told you when we met that we were booked out for several months, and that weather and other delays could push our estimated time frame back. I reiterated that more than once. It was made clear to you by both myself and our office that we work on large projects when due to their nature can have delays. It is all over our website that we work on log homes. Many wood home owners wait 6 months for our specialized high end wood care. Our repeat deck clients often book one season ahead to have us work on their property. I'm sorry, but you were told about delays, you were communicated to, and that is the truth of it.

A person gave us an estimate in March and we sent our deposit in the next day. After numerous phone calls, they finally started the work the week after Memorial Day! From that point, it took about three weeks for them to finally finish all of the work. The final product does not look very good; it doesn't look like we paid over $2500 for it. Also, the chemicals used in the pressure washing killed all of the plants/trees near the deck.
Description of Work: Pressure washed deck and screened in porch. Replaced screens. Stained and sealed deck.

THE TOTAL COST FOR THIS JOB WAS $2,185.15. WORK BEGAN ON 6/4, AND WAS COMPLETED ON 6/18, ELEVEN BUSINESS DAYS AFTER IS WAS STARTED. WE PERFORMED WORK AT THE JOB ON 6/4, 6/7 AND 6/18. ON 6/11 WE HAD A TRUCK BREAK DOWN AND GO OUT OF SERVICE, WHICH CAUSED THE DELAY. THE CUSTOMER WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS DELAY. IT WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 4 BUSINESS DAYS. A PERIOD OF TIME DOES ELAPSE BETWEEN THE TIME A DECK IS STRIPPED AND THE TIME IT IS SEALED SINCE IT IS PREFERRED THAT THE WOOD IS DRY. THIS JOB INCLUDED STRIPPING THE DECK TO REMOVE THE CURRENT FINISH, STRIPPING THE SCREENED IN PORCH, REMOVING THE OLD SCREENS AND REPLACING THEM WITH NEW ONES, EXCEPT FOR THE DOOR WHICH THE CUSTOMER DECIDED WE SHOULD NOT DO SINCE HE WANTED TO REPLACE THE DOOR. THE FASCIA BOARDS AND TRIM PIECES HAD TO BE REMOVED TO TAKE OUT THE OLD SCREENS. WE REINSTALLED THE FASCIA BOARDS AND TRIM PIECES AROUND THE PORCH AFTER RE-SCREENING. WE ALSO REPLACED A RAIL CAP ON THE DECK, AND TIGHTENED THE LOOSE RAILING. THIS DECK AND PORCH HAD BEEN SEVERELY NEGLECTED FOR MANY YEARS PRIOR TO OUR SERVICE. THIS CLIENT HAS NEVER ONCE CALLED TO EXPRESS ANY CONCERNS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE WORK PERFORMED, AND IF THEY HAD WE WOULD HAVE RETURNED TO THE JOB TO LOOK AND SEE WHAT WE COULD HAVE DONE FOR THEM.
