I called around to redo the work with another contractor and Richie from R Georges Paving immediately returned my call the same afternoon. (The only company that did). He came out the same evening, explained the services that he would preform and the results I could expect. The price was fair based on what I paid for in Oct and the results would be guaranteed. Very polite, showed a lot of integrity, and was highly recommended by Angie's list. (Now I know why) I signed the contract that evening. He said he would be their the next day between 10a & 11a. He showed up as promised. He came back at 4:30 that day for payment and to make sure I was pleased with the job performed. I spoke with my wife and she reported that he did everything as promised. I will definetly have Richie handle all of my driveway maintenance in the future. This was a GREAT Angie list pick.

Description of Work: Our driveway job should have been a simple job - and it turned into the worst experience we have ever had. We had 3 bids for our contractor job R George was the third. When we talked and walked through our job BEFORE contract signing we told R. George we had two priorities. First make sure that the driveway was sloped properly so that water hitting the driveway runs past the house and second lower a 'hump' near the end of the driveway that caused a number of delivery trucks to bottom out on. R. George said he understood and that these would be "no problem". We emphasized the sloping and water run off as being REALLY important to have it done correctly since our entire lot is slopped and the driveway and garage are slightly higher than the house. He did the hard sell and said he could start the job in a few days. Since is price was right around the previous bid, since he had a A on Angies List we went for it. Issues started coming up the first day Rich George finished moving dirt around to 'prep' the base for the driveway. During this process he said 'We'll mark it out and make sure you are happy'. When he marked it out I told him that I wanted the stretch that ran in front of the house to be parallel with the house (to allow a straight walk between the door of the house and the drive way). This was BEFORE any stone or asphalt was laid -at this point their was only a dirt base. R. George said don't lose sleep over it and that it would be fine. It wasn't. When I came home after the first day of paving R. George there was a foot high wall of asphalt directly across along the front of our house. Previously when you would look out of our front door the driveway was barely visible and now it stood about a foot high over our lawn AND YET it was clear that the asphalt was sloping towards the house! When this was pointed out to R. George he got livid and insisted that the slope was fine and that NO WATER would run towards the house. He continued to argue and then finally said "let's end this" and yelled at his men to turn on our water hose. He took the hose stood on the driveway to the left of our front door and the water spilled directly over the driveway and headed right toward the front of the house, he kept yelling picked up the hose walked further down the drive and dropped it again now directly in front of, again the water spilled right over the wall of asphalt and toward the house. He picked up the hose a third time again yelling that it wasn't going to run toward the house, walked further down the drive just to the right of the front door and dropped it again FINALLY at this point of the driveway the water started running away down the drive past the house. So after proving that he didn't slope the driveway correctly, I asked what fix can he offer. During this time he said I was crazy for suggesting that he remove the asphalt to slope it correctly. During this time he also threatened to call his lawyer - this wsas unreal given that we never one said we wouldn't pay. We simply asked him to deliver what he was supposed to deliver. When he finally calmed down the "fix" did he offered was to build a burm along the front of the house so the water would run -past it. We did NOT want this but felt we had NO CHOICE or would be looking at water in our basement during the next rain storm. Therefore on top of the already huge wall of asphalt he built a burm on the edge of the driveway that is closest to our house. Now our home looks terrible with this industrial looking driveway. When anyone moves to/from our house to your car you have to climb up a foot high wall of asphalt crowned with an additional 3-4 inch burm. We are now anticipating that we willl need to spend several thousands of dollars to raise our front lawn up and build steps to allow you to go from the house up the driveway. When we expressed our dissatifaction with R. George directly he filled one of our cell phone's voice message box with about half a dozen messages many blaming the issues on us, many insisting the job was "beautiful" and the later ones offering possible solutions. There are two sides to every story, but 14K later, more than a few sleepless nights, we are now trying months later to figure out how much more $$ we have to sink into a fix. Here is a visual as to what we look at when we step outside our front door - a wall of asphalt, higher now since he built the burm up even higher. Our 2 year old has to use both of his hands to climb up on the driveway when we go to the parking area and when he is going toward the house, he has to sit down in order to climb over the burm lip and asphalt wall. As for the 'hump' at the end of the driveway, it is still there and when I pointed it out to Rich George he said that I should instruct delivery trucks to drive past our house, turn around on the next street, then drive up and back into the driveway! This was unbelievable. To add insult to injury he only laid 1 coat on half of the driveway and we have this 'ripple' look when you pull in. He said 'it was going so good that he didn't want to come in with a second coat'. Other issues, a month after the driveway was poured we noticed that our cars were still leaving 'divits' from the car tire in the parking/turn around area. This is a month later. R.George was great in responding when we called and said he would fix it. His fix was to come out and partially fill in some of those divits - not all and not flush. The whole parking area is filled with humps and divits. After he worked on the tire divits, he left a message saying that the winter would help the driveway. This was a job completed in Sept and in Oct simply parking a car on it -causes a problem. We have had a number of contractors out since this job, remarks from these guys include the following: the sloping was clearly wrong if it was right, you wouldn't need a burm. It was also pointed out that, directly in front of the house, the asphalt was laid directly on the grass without a visible base. Finally, one guy pointed out several spots where there appears to be only an inch of asphalt. So we basically spent 14K for a driveway that looks terrible and will fail in several areas where the base wasn't properly prepped. 14,000.00 - we thought long and hard as to whether to write about out experience as we have had so many great contractor experiences. However we really want anyone considering this contractor to go in eyes wide open.

Description of Work: R. George put down a new asphalt driveway for us in July. We had a coupon that entitled us to have a free sealing. I called to set up an appointment and the owner was very responsive. He came personally a few days later and sprayed some sealer on the driveway. It looks good and whatever it was is repelling water.

Description of Work: Richie has done this same job before for us. We just needed the driveway asphalt sealed with an oil coating. We called on Friday and he came out on Saturday. He had to delay coming and he called to ask if that was OK. He then called again to make sure it was not raining out here. We have a very large driveway and we considered the price good. He is very efficient and very careful next to the grass and siding.

Description of Work: R Georges repaved our driveway, first removing the broken up section. They did a great job leveling and edging to existing sidewalk and garage.

Description of Work: Mr George repaved our existing single car driveway and extended it to include a parking pad. He did a great job as there is a slope on the right side where the parking pad was new, he took extra care to make it level and then added sod to the side to help the lawn grow up to the driveway instead of also adding a retaining wall. It looks beautiful and we are definitely enjoying out new driveway.

Description of Work: The contractor paved our driveway with asphalt. He removed sections that were broken up and sections at the top and around the walkway, put down an adhesive layer and then poured hot asphalt and then rolled the asphalt.

Description of Work: Mr. Georges paved about 200 feet of our driveway over a packed gravel base. He also spread sealer on the turnaround section of the driveway that had been paved several years earlier. The quality of the paving job surpassed my expectations in every way.
