Wheaton Tile Center

We had Wheaton Tile do some work for us a number of years ago, so we called them when it was time to put in a new kitchen floor. We went strictly vinyl, not tile, so it was not a real expensive job. Wheaton Tile is in the process of re-locating seems busy, plus we had some unusual requests, so the estimate took a while to get. After receiving it, we sat on it for a few months as we suddenly had other priorities. When we came back around to it, the original proposal was still good, and the price remained the same. We selected the flooring, and a crew showed up and spent the day removing the old vinyl, putting down a base, and re-flooring the kitchen. The three gentlemen who did the work seemed very skilled. Richard, a co-owner of Wheaton Tile who had written up the estimate, was back and forth all day, frequently stopping in to see how things were going. We are very satisfied with the job - fair price, good craftsman-like installation, and good and prompt attentive customer service from Richard.

Richard, the manager, was amazing to work with. He went above and beyond calling the distribution center to make sure that I would get my tile in time. He even hand delivered the tile to me to make sure I would get it in time for installation. Unbelievable customer service!

Seldom if ever have I dealt with a merchant who so completely undestood my needs, helped make appropriate choices, and was as communicative as was Richard Scherer at Wheaton Tile Center. I cannot possibly say how thankful we are to have chosen them to provide the materials we needed for our project. Their customer service is beyond exemplary. I absolutely would choose them as the provider for any similar project in the future and do so without wasting time comparison shopping. When you know who is best, why do otherwise? KLP

This man is honest and the work is superb. He declined several opportunities to make more money by "upselling" us. I would recommend him to any one at any time.

We are totally happy with the look of the new floor. The installers were very professional and laid the floor perfectly straight. Prior to that we had brought home floor samples to help make our decision. Richard was very easy to work with. Initially we were planning to get three estimates for the new floor, but we knew right away that we wanted to work with Wheaton Tile, so we stopped looking after we visited their showroom. The installers showed up on time and cleaned up very well afterward. We had a slight misunderstanding regarding the subfloor and whether there would be a metal strip placed where the steps meet the floor. But it was resolved to our satisfaction -- without a metal strip. I mention that so that other people might ask about metal strips before they make their decision. Richard and the installers went the extra mile to work with the existing subfloor. The result is simply beautiful. Richard told us exactly how to care for the floor surface to keep it looking new. We can recommend Wheaton Tile without reservation. We will be using them for the floor in another room in the next year.

It was a simple, small carpet installation job and all conversations were straight-forward. They came out and measured on a date and time exactly as I was told, no waiting. They placed the order for the carpeting that I selected, and it came in a reasonable amount of time. The installers arrived about 30 minutes early (very early on a Saturday morning) because they were trying to finish early that day due to the storm threats of Hurricane Sandy; was not a problem. They were quick, efficient and explained things to me, and cleaned up the area. No complaints at all. Looks fine. I picked a very cheap carpet -- my choice -- as it's a seldom-used porch. But that's why I rated the quality a and quot;Band quot; -- because I selected a lower quality product. [The store itself could use some updating as it was not a very welcoming place, though the salesman was perfectly nice.]

I ended up using them because they had the exact type of linoleum I was looking for. We were willing to pay the price for a great work, and consistent quality. These guys did a great job.

Sounded great and helpful on the phone. But after setting up an appointment, they didn't show up. I left a message, they never called back, and I never heard from them again.

They were wonderful. The tile looks great! Everyone I spoke with there was fantastic.

They arrived punctually at 8:30 am. They had previously warned us of noise due to pets in the house, which I found very considerate. The noise wasn't too bad as they took up old tiles and removed them to their truck. They then brought in new tile and mud/glue and put down the whole floor plus baseboards in one day. The estimate had said a day and a half but they stayed late to do it. I couldn't be happier and am going to have them do the other half very soon.

I much prefer giving a positive report, but even an "incomplete" rating would be generous here. When I went to pick up the bathroom floor tile, I was told that Wheaton Tile had reordered because some of the tiles had arrived broken. I checked several times, both in person and by phone, and was given a series of excuses, blaming whoever was responsible for delivering to Wheaton Tile. The excuses became ever more difficult to believe. Finally, without the floor tiles, the entire renovation of my bathroom would have been delayed and seriously disrupted, so I went to a tile store that evening (after Wheaton Tile had missed a promise to have the tile at 5 p.m.). I had to obtain floor tile that did not match the color of the shower stall floor tile nor the tile on the bathroom walls; this upset the entire color scheme for the room, but I had no real choice. I offered (in writing) to work out a fair payment for the shower stall tile which I had received, but Wheaton Tile was basically not communicating. When my credit card bill arrived, I told the bank not to pay the charge from Wheaton Tile, and I explained the circum-stances. After investigating, the bank agreed that my position had been correct, so the entire charge was wiped away. Despite requests, I have never gotten a credible explanation from Wheaton Tile about the problem(s) with the bathroom floor tile, and the lack of such an explanation has only added to my concerns about Wheaton Tile. I don't like to spread bad news about any supplier or contractor, but I am seriously considering contacting the Better Business Bureau about this episode.

I was unable to get an estimate from them. I called three times and emailed them as well. They said they would get back to me but never got back to me.

We bought carpeting and they put it in. They were wonderful. The selections were excellent. There was no high pressure which we get sometimes with these people. The installation was excellent. The guys, who came to do the installation, did a fabulous job. Unfortunately, I picked up a very expensive carpet. However, it is incredibly durable. I might have been able to find it cheaper somewhere but I did not look. I would use them in the future but I would try to bargain them down.

I had the same installer (Mario) for each session and he is very precise. No cutting corners, no rigging, no clocking out early, etc. It took some time, but it was done right. There were some scheduling crossed-wires, but finding three solid days when both the installer and customer are around (what with holiday weekends and such) is bound to lead to crossed wires. I'm totally pleased with the work and the experience overall.
