This was easy! We are renovation adverse, and have only come to the point of having to "do something" because the dishwasher and garbage disposal are completely broken, the stove is only half working, hinges are falling out of the cabinets, and there is a big hole in the floor where there was a fire a few years ago. The veneer of the cabinets is peeling off and the 30 year old floor looks it. They came, and they managed not to laugh at us and the condition of the kitchen. They are professional and encouraging and even seem to understand the reluctance to renovate. We haven't actually done any demolition yet, but I am almost looking forward to it because of their attitude and support.
Description of Work: I used an offer from Angie's list: for $99 I received a new design for my kitchen. Two men came to our home, interviewed us about what we wanted in a new kitchen, did thorough measuring and in a few weeks (we were in no hurry, and had told them to take their time) presented us with a new plan for our kitchen, incorporating ideas we'd never thought of. They gave us schematics, suggested finishes, and we are now in the process of deciding what to do next -- go with them, change the design a bit, or stodgily keep the current configuration but use their wonderful product suggestions. They are professional, considerate, and willing to work with the homeowner. They listen! This was a terrific deal and I highly recommend this company.

I appreciated their punctuality and professionalism. This being said, I went with another company which offered a solution for my kitchen that was more in line with my ideas. Tile Center was among 3 companies I was comparing.

After purchasing the design via Angie's List special, Anthony contacted me immediately to set up the measuring appointment. He asked if I'm interested in implementing at this time and understood when I said I don't know, I need to see the design first :) the appt is set for a future date because of schedules, but I'm sure it's going to go just fine!

I emailed them about the best time to call to discuss the work, and they responded as if I had asked for the in-home consultation instead, and asked for a time to call to set up an appointment(!). We finally arranged a time and the representative came on time and seemed very knowledgeable. He asked good questions and was very careful with his measurements and observations. Unfortunately, that was nearly a month ago, and we still have not heard back from them. I have no idea if this amount of time is usual, or when to expect the promised drawings, but we are starting to feel like the $99 was wasted. Perhaps the response was too great and they are having trouble handling all the orders? At any rate, we would appreciate at least an email or call explaining the delay. The good news is we didn't pay full price! Update: The drawings were very clear and helpful and helped us see the possibilities to improve our poorly laid-out kitchen. The designer and the showroom manager were both very apologetic about the miscommunication and the delay. We came away concerned that Tile Center is determined to "make it right" if a customer is less than satisfied.
Description of Work: I signed up for the Angie's List deal for a reduced price on a kitchen design/estimate with drawing. They sent a representative and we have not heard back from them yet. Update: A representative contacted us after we posted our negative review, and we were able to have the drawings sent to us via email.

Anthony and Vivi came to our house at scheduled time. They measured the kitchen and listened to what we like. We went to their store a few days later to see the design and plans. Vivi provided two designs, one with an island and one without. Both were pretty good. We have not started the remodeling yet because we have not decided on the cabinets we want. Once we decide on the cabinets, we my check with them again.

Remodeled our kitchenthe reasons plan
Description of Work: Remodeled out kitchen by relocating our applicance's & sink, some demolition, installing new cabinets, recessed lighting, dimmers, flooring, back splash on two sides of the kitchen. Originally, we came in for the $ 95.00 Kitchen evaluation. They were low key and not aggressive in their approach during the planning stages. They came out and did an evaluation of our kitchen visually and checked for load bearing walls, as well as, talked conceptionally, about what we wanted in our kitchen. Then we got together again in their showroom and went over several plans that they had prepared for us. We then began the process of picking out cabinets, counter tops, flooring etc. and getting prices for a kitchen renovation. Before long the dream started to become reality. I did not realize how difficult it is going from Concept to picking out the materials. They listened very well and were very helpful in assisting us with the design of our space and patient as we kept questioning our choices and modifying them and reassuring us when we feared that the combination of surfaces we selected did not work together. Besides the waiting and anticipation our experience was enjoyable and excellent. They were with us every step of the way.

The Tile Centers has done a series of work for me: Between 2009-2010, Tile Center redid the MB, guest and powder room bathrooms in my old house before I sold it and they did fantastic job on all three bathrooms. Tile Center also did my Kitchen and the work was exceptional too around the same time. When I sold my old house and moved into a new one in 2010, I called Tile Center to repair and replace the basement shower that was not properly installed. Again the work was very well done.

Excellent. The store and show room has a wide variety of products. The quality was very good. The salesman, Eddie Tirani, was very knowledgable, helpful, and listened to our needs. The after-sales and estimate went well - on time for the appointment and very professional. The installers, led by Antonio, were on time, polite, and kept things neat and clean from removal through installation. Amazing how all the work could be performed so cleanly. The tile cuts around door frames are amazing - so tight to the door frames with all their edges. The woodwork added to transition to our wooden floors is beautiful. The only minor minor problem was a little dust outside our home from tile cutting. But that was gone after the first rain. We can confidently recommend Tile Center. For a big job like this, we wanted and feel we got excellent service.

Purchased the Angies BigDeal. We were contacted promptly and they came out to assess the job and show us the tile included in the BigDeal. We decided not to use that tile, but one closer to what we had before. They were able to rework the contract so that the price for the tile we wanted was only slightly more. We also had to switch from the fitted, one-piece, shower pan to a tiled one because the space for the shower in our bathroom is slightly too small for the fitted pan. They also were able to work that into the contract so the price did not change much. The contractor doing the work was very careful doing the demolition to reduce the dust created and kept us informed all along. Also, we decided to use our own plumber to replace the shower plumbing as it was a slow leak behind the wall that had prompted the work in the first place. The Tile Center contractor was very good at coordinating schedules with our plumber so each could complete their work in a timely fashion. A year later the only issue we have with the show is that the drain needs cleaning out often, but this is more an issue with our old drain pipes further down than the area touched by Tile Center. One good thing with the new shower is that we now have the means of removing the shower grate to clean it out, which we did not have before and had to use a drain cleaner liquid often.

I bought an Angie's List $99 special from Color Tile for some design drawings for kitchen remodel. They contacted me in a timely fashion and come out in a few days. The estimator spent a couple hours with me going over my thoughts and measuring the kitchen. He sent three options within a few days and called a few days after that. I had some questions and some changes to the drawings. I did not get a call back or updated drawings. The drawings I received were basic outlines with no dimensions. The drawings provided some valuable thoughts on how to remodel my kitchen. Not sure it was worth the cost but in fairness I didn't follow up myself. I don't buy Angie list specials anymore. I probably could have gotten the same thing from bidding companies for nothing. Not saying Angie's List is a waste but I just use it as a starting point to research contractors along with BBB and other sites.

My husband and I had a bathroom remodel project and researched companies to work with on Angie's List. We decided on Tile Center based on their great rating, visited the showroom (which is an hour away from our home) a couple of times and worked with Eddie to select all our materials. After confirming the scope of the work, the design and materials with Eddie, he provided a fair estimate. We were finally ready to settle on a date and Eddie insisted that we come back to the showroom to go over the final details of the contract. My husband and I both work full time (plus some) and have a baby at home, so we kindly asked Eddie to provide the contract terms and conditions via email or fax so we could review them at a convenient time and not have to spend money on a babysitter and travel that far to go over paperwork. He seemed amenable at first, but when we did not receive anything, we called to find out why. At first, it appeared as though he was not answering our calls, but when we finally reached him, he waffled about providing the requested information and insisted that we come to the showroom to go over this. He also insisted that we sign his "invoices" (what we call a pricing proposal) to commit to the work before we went over anything else. We said we would be happy to sign these as soon as we saw all of the terms and conditions of the contract, including warranty information in a final contract agreement. After requesting this a half dozen times and not receiving it, we decided to research MHIC (Maryland Home Improvement Commission) contracts and work up the terms and conditions of a standard MHIC contract for his review and revision. (My husband and I both work professionally in contracting, so we have a little experience with contract terms and conditions.) This apparently upset Eddie because he stopped responding to our phone calls and requests for the information. When we were finally able to reach him by calling him from a different number, he said he was not avoiding us, but could not use what we sent him and agreed again to send us their terms and conditions via email. When we still did not receive anything, we tried calling him again and again. It was difficult to reach him, but when we finally did he denied avoiding us and could not explain why he hadn't sent the information yet. Again, he asked us to sign his invoices, write "5-year warranty" on the top and send it back. When we told him that we would not sign anything until we saw what needed to be in an MHIC contract and requested to speak to the owner, he reacted angrily and said that the owner was not available. When we asked several more times about how to reach the owner, he exclaimed that he was the owner and no longer wanted to do any business with us. While we cannot find any adverse information on this company, we found Eddie's behavior and responses to be unacceptable (and strange), and we are sorry that we were unable to work with this company since we spent a lot of time over several months going over the design and materials.

The Tile Center far exceeded my expectations. I have renovated a number of antique homes and have never worked with a company that was as exemplary as the Tile Center. The whole project was painless which is extraordinary. The project manager, Anthony, and his team headed by Zia led me through the process of choosing the wood flooring for the bedrooms and hallway, the tile and fixtures for the bathroom, and the under the floor electric grid to provide radiant heat. I was able to find everything I needed from their excellent in-store selections--one-stop shopping which is great for those of us who are too busy (or too lazy) to shop around. Why I am working with the Tile Center to renovate my cramped galley kitchen: * Project team is customer-focused, efficient, and extremely knowledgeable * Superb craftsmanship * Cost estimate was itemized so I knew exactly what I was paying for * Kept in close contact (called daily to tell me who was working the next day and when they were coming) * Workers were punctual, careful, tidy (cleaned up at the end of each day) and friendly * Responsive to my numerous questions and always willing to address any of my concerns * Took all my ideas into consideration and were open to my sometimes wacky ideas And most importantly, I trust the Tile Center. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Description of Work: I live in a duplex condo which is part of a house that was built in 1891. I have put off doing any renovations since I purchased it in 2005 because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and because I am a VERY picky person--a perfectionist when it comes to workmanship. I also knew from past experience that old house renovations are always migraine-producing disasters-waiting to happen. I decided to begin work on the lower level which had wall-to-wall carpeting and an out-dated full bath both of which got on my last nerve.

It was a good experience from start to finish. The design team leader was polite and pleasant to work with. We were not in a financial position to have the work done to completion so we really wanted to have a professional 'eye' help us figure out what layouts would work best in our kitchen. They did that and we were very happy with the service we received. When we are ready to go ahead with the work eventually, we will definitely look at them again for an updated estimate.
Description of Work: Purchased a kitchen layout design plan in an Angie's List deal. They came to our house to take measurements and ask some questions about our style, needs and 'wish list' items, and then had a meeting at their showroom a few weeks later where they gave us a presentation with the printed designs and an estimate for how much the work would cost with the various finishes.

I was a bit disappointed that the "floor plans" were not given, to me as it would have saved a lot of time and effort on my part. I now have to sit down and draw out the plans so that when I get bids I can compare apples to apples. The Tile Center's estimate seemed fair and after some additional questions I will consider them when quotes come in. I just have to get around to doing those pesky floor plans to get the ball rolling.
Description of Work: I purchased The Tile Center's $99 special for a discussion of kitchen remodeling ideas, preliminary plans, elevations and floor plans. After an initial consult he guys at The Tile Center came to look at the existing kitchen and to measure. They were easy to work with, and responsive to my questions and ideas. They provided me with computer generated elevations and perspective drawings but would not give me a set of floor plans.

The overall outcome of the workmanship and quality of the renovation is excellent. Each of the various workmen did an outstanding job. They were very accommodating and pleasant to have in my house. I explained that I preferred to watch them work because I learn from them and each encouraged me to do so. They indicated that is good in the event they have a question on how or where I wanted things located or fitted and that made their job easier. My only observation is that most of the time the company only sent a single workman while I felt made it more difficult for the workman (i.e. no one to hold things, get tools, etc.) which may delay completion of the work. I also felt that there could be better communication between the sales manager at the store and the on-site project manger and workers. There were times that workers arrived not knowing they would be working at my location until the night before or morning of their arrival. The only real problem encountered was in the final installation of the toilet. The first toilet, which is very heavy, was dropped and broken. Only one plumber was sent to install the toilet. I offered to assist but the box tore while we were lifting the toilet and it broke. The store indicated they had another one which when installed leaked. A third toilet was obtained but that also leaked when checked prior to being installed. A 4th toilet was ordered and installed by a plumber and an assistant without a problem or a leak. Unfortunately, this process took weeks to resolve.
Description of Work: Renovated a small bathroom/shower room and vanity area in master bedroom. Completely demo'ed room/area, moved shower wall 12 inches, removed toilet and vanity. Reframed shower wall, moved shower plumbing and drain, built new shower base and edge, installed ceramic tile on shower walls and floor of bathroom and vanity area, installed new custom built vanity, installed new shower fixture, vanity faucet and toilet. Installed new shower door. I arranged for painting of walls and a new custom made vanity mirror.

The design stage was fantastic. They use a team approach, so you get the benefit of lots of peoples' ideas, and each person on the team focuses on their area of expertise. We love the final products selected and how they blended. During the actual installation phase, Mr. Rabbani of the Tile Center oversaw the work of the subcontractors. He was totally responsive and worked hard to ensure that everything was done to our satisfaction and that the contractors kept at the job. Other than the bits and pieces one always has on major projects, work was promised in three weeks and completed in four (Frankenstorm didn't help the schedule!) which I think is quite good for this major of a project. We were extremely pleased with the work done by Counterintelligence on the counters, and all tile work for flooring and backsplash also well done. The demolition and rough rebuild team also did a good job. The only reason we can't give the effort an "A" overall is the cabinet installation team. Things would not be lined up and have to be rehung which they did, but numerous extra holes had to be punched in to complete the cabinets. The attention to cosmetics of the cabinet team was just not up to the level of the rest of the effort. We have closure, but I still feel the cabinet work was not as high quality. I would highly recommend the Tile Center for design and the prices for materials seemed competitive. In hindsight, I probably would direct hire my own contractors to perform installation, rather than depending on the "luck of the draw" with their subcontractors, but definitely would use Tile Center for design again. And, if you aren't "hands on", they are responsive and timely and a good option for handling your project.

Overall, ok. I usually wait before doing reviews to see if the work holds up. The grout is starting to crack/come out. Which is unfortunate. I'll have to re-grout soon. I wish there was a "maybe" regarding whether I'd hire a company again. I'm really a "maybe" for this one.

Although I misread the ad, the photo in the ad was misleading. There were several things not included with the package that I purchased; however, that was not clear to me upfront. Initiially, everything was ok. The salesman, Joe, arrived and explained the shower package, terminology in the ad, and the discrepancy with the photo. Since I already obligated and partly at fault, I moved forward with the project. Since I was unfamiliar the process, Joe worked with me to price the additional upgrades. My upgrades I mean the shower flooring and the shower door, which was not included. The flooring that was included with the package was a plasitic pan, which was the same thing I was taking out. Although the picture had a tile flooring, Joe explained that the photo was selected by the people at Angie's list. Later, Joe emailed me the list of upgrade with the prices. Most of the cosmetic stuff I declided, but I accepted the additional tiling around the tub and the flooring tile for the shower. I have planned to get the shower door though another contractor. Once approved, the team was schedule to arrive the following week. The team arrived on schedule every day that week and worked really hard. It was obvious my bathroom's appearance was greatly improved by the third day. Still to the point, I was satisfied with everything. The went downhill trying to get a shower door installed. By the third day, I contacted Joe to arrange for the shower door. Mostly because the Tile Center financed me up to $5000, which could be paid in 12 months without interest. Whenever, Joe was out of the office no one else was available or willing to assist me. I'd be sent to his voicemail or I would email him. When I finally talked we Joe, he arranged for the shower contractor to call/contact me. However, it did not happen. I called Joe again...still no one in the office could/would help me. I was told only Joe could take care of it. This time Joe called the contractor and facilitated the appointment at my house. The contractor arrive the following day (Saturday) and took the measurements. Several weeks later, I was still without a shower door. Joe told me to call the shower door contractor myself. When I did I was told the glass was bad, damaged, or usable; therefore, it was sent back twice. At this point, I was frustrated so I just cancelled the order and decided to try someone else. I went to Angie's list and located showedoorking. After calling them, they came of for measurements and explained it would take 2-3 weeks; however, they installed the door in less than two weeks. I don't have a problem with the product nor the workers that installed the tile. However, I do have problems with the posted ad, shower door contractor, and the customer service at the Tile Center. Customer service for me is a "deal breaker", so I will be using someone else to tile my other projects.
Description of Work: I had standard shower replaced by using ceramic tile. The old shower was removed and new ceramic tile shower was added. I also replaced the tiles around my tub on the opposite wall, so the tile would match.
