Description of Work: There was a leak in the ceiling from the upstairs bathroom to a powder room at my nextdoor neighbor's house which i was watching while they were away. What a mess! And I couldn't move the valve to turn the water to the house off. Not my house, not able to turn off the water, water dripping rapidly from the ceiling...this was an emergency to me. I called Stang to come see what was wrong, not expecting that -- as happens -- they would have a plumber at the house within half an hour of my call. He found the source of the problem, cut into the ceiling and replaced the piece of pipe that had sprung a pinhole leak. Quick, able to assess and do the work, polite and clean throughout. And I was billed on the standard rate, not an emergency rate. Can't say enough about this plumber. Stang is great! I would give them an A-plus if that category existed.

Description of Work: stang installed new garbage disposer for my house. usually stang charges by the half hour but this job only took 20 minutes. job should have cost me half what stang charged. i understand stang is under new ownership. too bad since i used them a lot be fore. now i need a new plumber.

Stang Plumbing charges a 1 hour minimum for every service call we are dispatched to. We advise every customer of this 1-hour minimum charge everytime they call into our office to schedule an appointment, rather this is their first time using our service or they are a regular customer. Stang Plumbing has always charged a 1-hour minimum. The first hour rate that we charge has not changed since the beginning of 2006. According to our records, for this service call on July 11, 2011, the plumber was on site for 40 minutes (from 2:05pm - 2:45pm) to replace an owner provided garbage disposal. If our scheduled service call takes less than the 1-hour minimum our technicians offer to look at other items plumbing in the residence; check for leaks on faucets, toilets, etc... occasionally the homeowner choses not to have us look at or address other issues. The company itself changed hands in the end of 2006, when Mr. Stang retired. Stang Plumbing still has the majority of the same technicians and staff that were employed at the time Mr. Stang owned the company and one of the current owners worked for the Stang's for many years. We have not made any price increases since Mr. Stang retired. The prices that are in place now, were in place when Mr. Stang himself was here. We are upfront and honest about our pricing and how the pricing works. If you would like to discuss this futher please call our office. Poorly. Total failure.
Description of Work: I'm remodeling a bathroom and needed multiple plumbing chores completed. I called Stang for an estimate and got no response / scheduled appointment for a week. called back and they scheduled a visit for estimate. Jon Herschberger visited and I explained the multiple projects I needed. He said he'd get back to me by e-mail w/ an estimate and never did. Not even a reply to say they are not interested in doing the work I need.

IN THIS CASE, WE DID ACTUALLY EXPLAIN TO THE MEMBER THAT THE WORK DISCUSSED WAS NOT SOMETHING WE COULD QUOTE BY THE JOB, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE BY OUR NORMAL HOURLY "TIME-AND-MATERIAL" CHARGES. TYPICALLY, WE CAN ONLY QUOTE JOBS IF THEY LARGE AND COMPLETE ENOUGH IN SCOPE. WHEN REQUESTED TO QUOTE NUMEROUS SMALL ITEMS, IT REQUIRES MORE TIME AND ENERGY TO FORMULATE AND BREAK DOWN ALL THE CHARGES THAN IT DOES TO ACTUALLY DO THE WORK, WHICH ADDS TO OVERHEAD AND EVERYONE ELSE'S PRICES. WE ALWAYS FEEL BADLY WHEN PEOPLE DON'T LIKE OUR ANSWERS, BUT WE CAN'T ALWAYS SAY "YES" AND STAY IN BUSINESS. WE DO HAVE PHONE RECORDS AND NOTES INDICATING THAT WE DID EXPLAIN TO THIS MEMBER THAT WE COULDN'T QUOTE THE REQUESTED WORK.
