We had a house fire in December 2017 and unfortunately this company was recommended to us. We are still dealing with the consequences of their incomplete work. There is no accountability and their GM Brock Merwin, has proved that he does not care about their lack of customer service and irresponsibility of their project manager. I could provide a long list of the items that were incomplete or just not done. It took many emails and complaints to get anything fixed, and most of what was promised was not done. They also did not communicate anything to us unless we reached out first. They blew our project off initially. While we thought they were supposed to be working on our house, they were in fact doing NOTHING. The received no communication or witnessed no work from May-Sept 2018 because their designer quit and no one was being held accountable. Our home was supposed to be complete 10/31. They continued to drag their feet and show how irresponsible they are. They even forgot to put in hose bibs (which is mandatory to pass inspection) and somehow their inspector missed it? My husband caught it. When they went to install them they destroyed landscaping, ripped out a bush and left it in the middle of the yard. When we told them about it, they said they would remove it and never did. We had to remove it ourselves. Who does that kind of shoddy work? We had to decide to fix the remaining items they left undone because it was so labor intensive to get them to do what they were contracted to do. What an awful company. Would not recommend to anyone, especially if you are going through a trauma such as a house fire.

They were excellent. They had very responsible people and had a supervisor during every phase of the operation. They sealed the apartment and they worked diligently the whole time. At the completion of each segment, the environmentalist would find more spores so they would take down more walls. They did this until we got it all. I would highly recommend them without hesitation.
Description of Work: I had major mold damage. They came in and tore out all the walls down to the studs and did mold remediation. They also rebuilt everything.

One of the worst experiences I had with any service provider. Tony from Paul Davis not only seemed unprofessional but wont respond to phone calls/text messages. I had to contact the main office to get any response and that happened few times. I never got an estimate despite multiple follow ups. They only wanted to send the estimate to insurance and that process took over 4 weeks and later when Chad from restoration showed up we figured that the initial estimate from Tony sent to insurance was incomplete. Chad was very helpful though but he was not responsible for mold remediation. Now 6 weeks of time wasted! I end up not proceeding with Paul Davis and won’t recommend Paul Davis in germantown.

I couldn't have been happier with the results. Amber Yost evaluated the damage and worked with the insurance company to get all the needed repairs done. Amber was always available to answer questions. Once the repairs started the Foreman Keith kept me up to date with what was being done and made sure the job was done well.
Description of Work: Had a water leak in a 1-bedroom condo that cause significant damage. They completed the job in one day, which made me wary when it comes to drywall and paint. We needed the crew to come back and do a few touch ups. The paint they used was of less quality than our original paint (it doesn't clean nearly as well) but the crew was very prompt and friendly!

Excellent workmanship. Provided updates and timing all along the way. Care was taken to protect carpet and non-work areas. They worked cleanly and efficiently. The only thing that delayed the job completion was the blizzard!!
Description of Work: Rebuilt master bath and dressing area as a result of a leaky toilet. Replaced damaged floor and ceiling in room below. Took bathroom down to the studs, pulled and reset cabinets, counter and sink, replaced tile floor and shower and installed new toilet. As part of a separate job, done concurrently, they pulled down builder grade paneling and replaced it with new drywall. Provided all finishing and painting services.

It went really well. Paul Davis came in quickly and took up the flooring to get rid of all the water and keep mold from forming. We waited a few months to do the rest of the work while we were not in residence. The meetings with the sales guy, Brian, went well, as did the meetings with the supervisor, Ricardo. Ricardo sent us photos as the project progressed and he was available by phone whenever we needed to talk to him. All of their workers did an excellent job and we were very pleased with the end result. There were some areas that were not perfectly done, but we made a punch list after we got back into the apartment and everything was taken care of very quickly.
Description of Work: We had an overflow from our kitchen sink of stinky garbage and water and had to replace the entire wood floor in our condo. Because of that we also had to do painting, new floor molding, sanitizing of all the cabinets below the counter, etc. As long as we were doing all that, which was covered by insurance, we added on and paid separately for new tile for our foyer and powder room as well as new pull-out drawers in two cabinets in the kitchen.

(member name removed), We just wanted to take a minute to express how exciting it is for our team to see such a positive response from a homeowner - it really makes what we do worth it. Our goal as a restoration company is firstly to put a smile across the faces of homeowners who put their trust, confidence and home in our hands and second - to do our very best to put home and businesses back together in the most efficient way possible while portraying professionalism and quality in our work. When we log into our Angie's List account and see that all that hard work is being recognized by the very people we wake up every morning to help, it shines a new light on the reasons why we do what we do! Thanks again for reminding us why our jobs are so rewarding. We look forward to working with you in the future on perhaps a home remodel project (we wouldn't wish another flood on you!). If you ever need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are here for you - even after the project finishes! Thanks again - you have been too kind, Paul Davis Restoration

We had Paul Davis come in for an estimate to renovate our small kitchen. While there, they came up with some good ideas that we implemented that other contractors had not thought of. All their staff were friendly and efficient. We had our kitchen completed in 1 month compared to the horror stories about how long it has taken other folks. Brock was our point of contact and did an outstanding job. We had two follow up items that were addressed quickly.

We had an insurance adjustor come, and he looked at everything and nothing happened for 2 months. We kept calling them about it, and they said that there was a problem with the public adjustor, and they said they had to make sure that we were being paid the right amount. When we called our insurance broker, she said there was not 3rd party involved. They don't use a public adjustor, they just approve what is being submitted to them. The next day Paul Davis shows up and says lets get going. We had all this furniture which wasn't really touched by the back up but it was in the room for 2 months, and it smelled. They said they were going to move all the furniture out and give it an ozone treatment to deodorize it. That sounded weird so we called our broker, and she said she had never heard of any such thing, and we got a check from our insurance within a day or two to replace the furniture. We told them they could hold on to our old furniture. From the middle of October to a few weeks ago, they came in put in tiles, ripped up dry wall, and put new wallpaper. They missed a paint spot every now and then, and we called them and they came and corrected it. There was one little area where the wall paper was wet, and they kept giving us different reasons why there was a brown spot on one wall. They kept checking if it was wet, and it wasn't wet. The last time they came, they said that they have to send somebody up on the roof, and check if there was wetness there. We said that we didn't want them to go on the roof. We were sending emails back and forth to the insurance company, and the whole thing came to $7500 that we owed them after the deductible. We had paid them $5000 and the rest was to be paid after we were satisfied, but we never reached a point of satisfaction. We then called it square. We had a contractor working at our house, and he said that the stain was because somebody had painted oil paint over latex paint. They responded right away to the emergency situation, and they did the work within a few days, but then they disappeared, and they were saying it was the insurance company, and the adjustor seemed to have a very different story. He was saying he wasn't getting the papers, and they were saying they sent the papers. We called the broker, and then they came. They showed up the days they had to show up, but it took a very long time. It took 3 or 4 months for them to finish a 2 week job. The workers were fine, but it seemed like there was a project manager who didn't seem to be up on top of things. We would ask her when this would started, and she didn't really have answers for us.
Description of Work: I used Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling. We had a sewage back up in the basement and and the family room floor. My wife and I were trying to clean it up, and then I realized that we had insurance, so I called my insurance agency, and they gave us the name of Paul Davis. They are one of their two referrals. They showed up within an hour and half, and they cleaned up sewage. It took them a couple of days to do that, and then we started to talk about restoration. We needed tiles ripped up and taken out because of asbestos, and we needed new tiling in one bathroom, and new tiling in our family room, and we needed all our furniture replaced.

They were very prompt and provided thorough service. However, they seem to bill liberally under the assumption of insurance coverage. I negotiated a lower price over the phone with supervisor which was not reflected on the bill. I payed for negotiated price nonetheless, which they ended up accepting. If you do have insurance they are very good. Otherwise, pricey.

I came home one day to water streaming down into my garage from my living room, and when I went upstairs I saw a massive hole in the ceiling with water leaking through as a result of a failed fitting on one of the supply lines to an upstairs bathroom. My insurance company told me to call one of three companies including Paul Davis, and I'm glad I chose them. They came by that very same night, assessed the situation and provided large fans and dehumidifiers to start drying out the affected areas. The next day they came by again to set up a containment area, take down the damaged ceiling and insulation, and check on how things were drying out. They came by again a couple days later and checked again to see if the areas had dried out, and showed me that everything was dry. The only thing they weren't able to do was to take down some ducts that they say have wet insulation on them. They did take down as much as they could and told me what I needed to do - call an HVAC company to take down the ducts and the insulation and replace them. I was very pleased with Paul Davis - throughout the process they were very understanding and helpful. Louis, who did the work for us, was very professional and explained everything and answered any questions I had. Hopefully I won't have to use them again for the same services, but if I did, I'd call them first thing. Price is unknown because my insurance company will be dealing with them directly.

We had damage from Hurricane Sandy to a back room on our second floor. The biggest issue was working things out with the insurance company, but once that was in place, the work progressed quickly. I would not use or recommend PDR in the future. I found PDR to be untimely, and poorly managed. My impression is that PDR is a volume shop. They try to get as many contracts as the can (good plan), but they are short on the execution. The project could have been better managed. PDR uses subcontractors and that is where the excuses begin. Workers show up late and speak limited English. If I needed to communicate with the workers I have to call the project manager, who was often in meetings and by then the workers have left for the day. They gave me the option of a lock box. This was not an option ofr me. I find lock boxes work well with vacant houses or with a small work group. There were approximately 12 different guys (workers not including project managers) in and out of my home. One time I did try leaving the contractors to complete their task and go into work( my 17y/o was home). The contractor left and left the garage door open WITHOUT saying a word. I did let him know that I was leaving before I left. There were some re-work with the flooring I didn't expect perfection, but I didn't expect it to feel like a job either. Better communication would have been a major plus. When I had questions, I honestly felt like they would have responded differently if I were a man or there was a man involved. I was disappointed! Marlene FYI: I have been a homeower for almost 20 years, the last 8 years at this house. I have used contractors in the past for roofing, windows, basement finishing and other minor project throughout the house.

We have reached out to this Angie's List member and have not heard a response back. We dealt with the issues highlighted by this feedback immediately while we were working at this home. The subcontractors we use are vetted and we have a mandatory screening/background check process. In the instance of leaving a door open, that subcontractor's employee is NOT allowed on our jobs-we have a zero tolerance policy regarding leaving a property unlocked/open. Lastly, suggesting that we discriminated based on the homeowner being female borders on defamation. Over the course of 25 years in business the overwhelming majority of our customers has been women who have been treated with professionalism and care.

They are exceptionally professional in every aspect of our interaction with them, going above and beyond what one would expect to provide support. We have contact with three outstanding individuals from Paul Davis so far. Roger Davis, Charlie Speake (Senior Estimator) and Candace Winfield are exceptional individuals, consumate professionals and overall nice people. We will be in the restoration process for several months to come.
Description of Work: Provided initial response to our (wind) property damage. We will have ongoing experience with Paul Davis for the next 6 tp 12 months.

The company sent out a represenative on 10/30/2012. The gentlemen spent 10 to 15 minutes at my house. He took some measurements in the master bedroom and left. He told me that he would come back another day to go on the roof. I was informed that I did not need to be there. On 11/25/2012 I received an estimate from the company for a total price of 1,218 dollars. When I looked at the estimate I could not tell what the problem was that they were fixing. I had called because of a roof link. It was not a very big leak but I thought that I needed someone to look at it just in case. There was no major damage in the house. The estimate seemed to be somewhat off to me. I decided to not go with the company. I must say that I nevered received a call from the company to explain the work. To my suprise in May I recieved a $259.00 dollar bill in the Mail for an emergency service fee of which I was never told about. In fact, this amount is not even on the estimate that was given to me on 11/25/2012. I called the company to question them about this and was told that they charged this fee for the travel time of the driver and work performed on my roof. Brian McCloy stated that they had chaulked an area on my roof. I informed him that he should not have performed any work without consulting me. He stated that this is what roofing companies do and that if something is an emergeny then they will do it without consulting the homeowner. It appears to me that if my job was an emergency I would have receicved an estimate immediatley and not some 25 days later. So I guess I can not buy the emergency piece. I informed him that the company should have told me that they were charging a fee to come out. I also informed him that the estimate that he sent me on 11/25/2012 does not have a line item for this fee. It appears to me that once I did not utlize the company they then decided to stick me up with this fee. I find it appalling especially since they are the contractor for USSA which deals with military families and people who have served their countries. I spoke with the company to try to resolve this and did not get anywhere. In fact two days after speaking with them I got a past due notice for the 259.00 dollars. I have no problem paying the bill but right is right and I do not believe that they should have charged me $259.00 without telling me upfront that there would be a charge for coming out. If this were the case I would have shopped around for other companies. UPDATE Owner of company called and the dispute was settled. I feel much better regarding this company.
Description of Work: I called my insurance company because I had a leak in my ceiling which I believed was a result of wind damage from a storm that the DC area experienced on October of 2012. My insurance company recommended Paul Davis restoration. I was told that they were a preferred provider. Contact was made with the company and a time and date was selected. The purpose of the visit was to give a diagnosis of the problem and provide an estimate.

Response from Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling
I have called and spoken with [removed member name] to apologize for the miscommunication regarding her roof inspection. The result from the hurricane last year caused an extraordinary number of calls and we made every effort to explain to customers that we would need to charge for roof inspections. I explained this to Ms. Williamson but since we did not communicate this properly, I have cancelled the charges and closed the file. I was happy to hear from her that she does not appear to have had any more leaking. We will continue to make every effort to communicate better with our customers in the future.
