+ -1 moreI've tried many highly rated companies for carpet and specialty rug cleaning as well as upholstery cleaning. Normandy is, in my experience, the best across the board. I've used them at least 10 times. They are prompt, reasonably priced, professional and done an outstanding job in all areas. I have had them clean very expensive area rugs such as a custom-made Tibetan, and they did a wonderful job. I'd highly recommend them--I will never use anyone else. I've lived in five houses in DC over the years and were consistently an A+.
Description of Work: I have used Normandy many times over the past 10 years for carpet cleaning, cleaning of high-end rugs such as Tibetan, and for upholstery cleaning.

+ -1 moreOne of the most unprofessional companies I have dealth with. Exceedingly frustrating experience. Don't waste your time or effort and go elsewhere.
Description of Work: I called to have someone get out to the house after our basement flooded. It is a small area (approx 100 sq. ft) and I was concerned about the risk of mold forming because we have a 3 month old. I first called on a Friday and left a message. No one returned the call. I then called on a Saturday morning and spoke to Tammy. I was told that she could not schedule me for any earlier than Wednesday because they were so busy. I asked her to schedule me for Wednesday, but she claimed she could not until Monday morning, and that I would be on a wait list for an earlier appointment. I explained to Tammy that I had a flight to catch on Tuesday, but that I would be happy to move it once she confirmed the time for the appointment. She assured me a call first thing Monday morning. Monday morning rolled around, and no call, so I called again and this time Bree told me she could not give me an appointment because "they had no available equipment" and she had to find out where things were and she'd get back to me. I explained my concern about mold forming and that I had a three month old and a flight scheduled for Tuesday that I needed to move ASAP but couldn't move it until I knew when they could come out. She assured me a call back in a couple of hours and told me not to move the flight because Tuesday morning might be a possibility. A few hours later, no call back, so I called a third time. I don't recall who I spoke to, but she said she could not schedule me yet because she didn't have the authority to schedule anything without hearing from Craig, the office manager, who apparently was not in the office yet. After explainig to her the situation, she said the earliest she could schedule me for was Thursday afternoon. I've never dealt with a more unprofessional company in all of my life. Go elsewhere, there are many companies who perform these services, and they at least have the decency to schedule you for an appointment instead of making you wait on some "waiting list" before they will even schedule you. Craig the office manager doesn't call back either (at least company culture is consistent here). Don't waste your time. Also, over the phone quote seemed high for such a small space.

+ 0 moreThey also removed my old rug pads and provided new ones. They kept my carpets for almost 2 months while I was selling my home, and they stored them without a fee. Then they returned them to my new apartment without a murmur. They did a good job of cleaning them, and they look wonderful. They even trimmed the fringe that had been damaged at another time, so that it was unnoticeable. The charge for cleaning was considerably less than another company that I'd spoken with.

+ 0 moreVictor and Luis were on time. The dining room chairs did not come very clean, but I don't blame them for this as I let them go too long. They do look better than they were, and I can live with them a while longer until I reupholster them. The couch and rug look great. My only gripe is with one of the upholstered armchairs. The seat cushion is removable, and Victor and Luis rested the wet cushion on the wooden chair arms to dry. This caused water damage to the wooden arms that I did not notice until after they left. Other than this, they did a nice job cleaning up after themselves, the service was professional, and they did a lot for the price.I will use Normandy again, but will be watching a little more closely how they place things to dry.

Description of Work: They came to clean all the carpets, but the stairs and throw rugs were the only places they said needed it. There were still workmen there finishing up on drywall repairs (they were supposed to be completed) and the Normandy Carpet people didn't want to clean while they were there. They took the throw rugs to their building to clean them for me. They returned them all clean and while there cleaned the stairs. I was on a time limit so they made extra effort to complete them faster than they originally were going to. I found the very thoughtful and helpful and would use them again when the carpet needs cleaning all over.

Normandy agreed to clean the downstairs wall-to-wall (or as much of it as could be reached without swinging from the rafters to clear the obstacle course of boxes from my son's recently vacated apartment). This carpet was filthy and stained. Normandy did a great job. The very helpful receptionist at Normandy had warned me that the Orientals really needed to be brought in for thorough cleaning, but she agreed to arrange for a "light" cleaning in home. The service guys did a fabulous job--and for some pittance, I should add. Very impressive work.
Description of Work: clean filthy downstairs carpeting and clean 3 oriental area rugs.

+ -1 moreThe service call was scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at 2 PM. We spent several hours on Friday preparing the rooms for cleaning and made arrangements to stay at a hotel overnight Saturday to avoid disturbing the carpet as it dried. At about noon, the service crew left a voice mail on our answering machine (we were out of the house at the time) saying that their truck had broken down and we'd have to call to arrange another service date. At aboput 12:30 we called the phone number for the main office and spoke with a "manager on duty" (Tom) who was very sympathetic to the problem his crew had created for us and promised to try to get another crew out ASAP. Tom called back later to say that the earliest a crew could some would be Monday afternoon. We were very annoyed but decided to go ahad with our plan for a night at a hotel since it was not cancellable at that point. On Monday a crew came at the appointed time and did a very slipshod job cleaning the carpet. This crew did not move most of the furniture to clean under it, despite our calling Tom again and his speaking with the crew. He promised us a substantial discount (turned out to be 15%). After the crew left, we found that they still had not moved the furniture. We again called Tom and reported the very unsatisfactory work. Tom promised another crew would return on Tuesday and complete the work correctly. On Tuesday a new crew came and did excellent work. They moved all of the furniture and reported to us that the previous crew had not really moved the furniture but had only put it up on foam blocks. The second crew was very polite and efficient and did an excellent job. Tom was very helpful but ineffectual in geting his crew(s) to do the work we had scheduled. Only the third crew was on time and effective. If you are willing to take a 1 out of 3 chance that you'll get a good crew, then I guess you can consider this company. I would not hire them again.
