Moyers Lawn Service & Landscaping

It went very well. They arrived on-time. The 3-man crew was very accomodating, doing as I asked. They worked steadily, especially the crew-leader, who worked very hard and very quickly himself while also supervising the 2 other men. They worked the full amount of time. The yard looked much, much better when they were done. I feel I got a good deal.

It went horribly! They showed up before they were supposed to (before me) and just started cutting shrubs, arbors, and whatever they thought needed cut. They absolutely ruined my yard. We had been growing this arbor for five years. What I was looking for was just a general clean-up -- not this type of work. They tried to make it right by coming back out, but again, they ruined my yard. If you hire this company, ENSURE you are home when they initially come out. I just can't decide if I'd use them again.

They really only did one side of it and during the process they accidentally cut a cable leading to my home as well. Since the main job I asked them to do was not done right, I had to call them back out. They came back out that day, but charged me for the extra time. I had to get Verizon out in to re-dig and replace the wire they cut. The work did end up getting done, it just took more time and effort on my part than expected.

Excellent service; I will definitely use them in the future and would recommend them to neighbors!

It was a constant battle over the cost. Almost always underestimated. I was always surprised by the total cost. Work was just OK, but management could use a good customer service class.

Moyer's weed whacked the 'edging' instead of actually cutting and defining an edge, pulled out weeds AND plants, and put down a light ' dusting' of mulch. To their credit, they did correct the problem of removing existing plants by putting in new ones. Overall we felt they were priced too high for the services we received..

They did a good job of building our lawn in the past, but we have moved and cannot use them anymore.

I have a yard that needs some special attention due to the topography which causes some drainage issues. I hired Moyers even though they were much more expensive than the previous company I had used because they marketed themselves as a local family run business. I thought if the company was run by local owners, then I could easily communicate my needs to them. That was the case initially when I explained all my issues and got the quote. I was assured that they could handle mowing my lawn with a small mower which wouldn't leave ruts in the yard and that they wouldn't mow when the yard was saturated. It turned out that they had difficulty implementing their promise not to mow when wet and not to use a big mower that would leave ruts. One time they even came to mow while it was raining. The third time that major ruts had been left throughout my yard I asked to speak to an owner. Not only did an owner never contact me, no one did. It wasn't until I refused any future mowings until someone spoke to me, that I got a response. Then I was ultimately put in touch with someone who was clearly not family or local - someone whose accent I count not understand very well with a DC number. I was offered a reseed in the middle of the summer to correct the problem. I didn't want that and would have been happy with some kind of discount on reseeding in the fall, but I was assured that I wouldn't have to water. Then when they came to reseed I was given a written sheet of instructions of the necessary watering schedule. I could go on about how this situation deteriorated, but the crux of the issue is don't get fooled into thinking that this is a friendly, neighborhood, family run company as their branding suggests. It has obviously grown too much to operate like that now. When I wanted to pay them to correct my drainage issue, I was told that they were too busy to come out and discuss this project with me. On the plus side I will say their office is fantastic. I could always talk to someone in the office during business hours - its just that they had no power to make anything happen beyond the mowing schedule. They always called the day before every mow. They were very reliable. They mowed more often in the spring and less often in the summer which I really liked. If you have no special needs and are willing to pay the price they might be the company for you.

They were on time, there were three people working very hard to try an get as much done in the time alotted in the big deal I purchased. The value was very good. They were very curteous. The guys cleaned up very well after all the work was done! They even left the place looking better than it did when they came! They were careful to ask what was the most and least important based on my top priorities list I made and they followed my list in order that I wanted it to be done! They did a very good job.

They worked hard and quick and were able to get 95% of our weeds out, they took out a small treee, trimmed our bushes, took out a raised bed and moved the dirt around to grade and fill in holes. They also defined our planting areas in the front of our house and graded the dirt. It was a lot of work in the short time they were there and we were impressed with the results.

very punctual, did a very good job. job wasn't able to be done in the amount of time but hoping we can work something out that won't cost me an arm and a leg to remove the remaining stumps. one worker offered an idea of how to deal with that and so I'm waiting to hear back from the company if that can work.

I really appreciated how both the intake coordinator on the phone, and the crew who arrived to work on my yard, could identify plants vs. weeds. This has been a problem with other companies we've hired in the past (not found through Angie's List). The crew arrived earlier than I expected, as I'd been told by the coordinator that I was the second residence of the day, rather than the first. No worries, I was happy to show them what I needed and have the work done earlier in the day. Our yard is quite overgrown with weeds, so I had purchased this deal and a second one for weeding for the purposes of getting some of the hardest work done before starting an annual company with whichever company I liked best. When I showed the crew the grass-like weeds that had grown in-between our new air conditioner and heating units, I asked them to be sure to please not use any electric weeding tools there, for fear of damaging the units. They quickly replied that they only hand-weed, so not to worry. This was in stark contrast to the other company whose Angie's List deal I purchased -- practically all they did was weed with electric tools, and didn't want to do the more difficult weeding by hand. The sections that they weeded look much better than before they came, and I would have confidence using this company and crew again. Well worth the cost of the deal. Too bad I couldn't buy more than one!

Even though, as other reviewers have stated, Moyers is on the pricey side, I have always had a good experience with them (see my other review). Well, not this time. My yard was overgrown when we moved in, and despite considerable work on my part, I was losing ground. I could not get rid of the honeysuckle, or the Russian thistles, or the pokeweed. So, I called Moyers. Marco came out to give an estimate. We walked through every square foot of the yard, while I told him what needed to be done. He gave me an estimate ranging from $4,050 to $4850, plus dump fees and seeding. He told me he liked to estimate high to take into account unforeseen circumstances. He said the job would take two days. They started work on 6-29-2014. It turned out that the length of time the job would take was grossly underestimated. On June 2nd, (the 3rd day they had to come back), the job was still not completed, and there was no communication from Moyers about the status, or whether they were even coming back. I called Moyers several times to ask what was going on, (the first thing that irritated me), and Marco came out, again. He stated it would take another half day to finish, but that it was important that the job be done right. He made no mention of extra money, so I assumed he was standing by his original estimate. He also stated (unlike the first time he came out), that he was afraid to estimate too high, because then he wouldn't get jobs. I was a little disturbed by this, and the thought crossed my mind that he had low-balled the original estimate; but, since he said nothing about additional money, I assumed he was standing by his original estimate. The final work was done on June 9th. I received a call from Moyers stated the total would be $4850 for the three days (through June 2nd), plus an additional $1200 for the half-day on June 9th, for a total of $6,050. When I objected to this, Marco came on the line, and immediately took off $600, saying the total would now be $5,450. I was not happy at all, and asked him several times if that would be the final total. He indicated that it was. A few days later we got a bill for $ 5918.00! (1.) I expect professionals to give me an accurate estimate; not low ball the estimate and then jack-up the price after I am committed, citing "unforeseen circumstances" when they had done a thorough inspection of the proposed job. (2.) If there are truly unforeseen problems, contractors I have used have always let me know at that time what the situation was, and that there would be extra money involved, plus how much it would be. This way I would have the chance to either approve the extra work, or not. This was not the case here. I am livid, particularly since I trusted this company. They have lost a customer. I have never run into this issue, before. We finally decided to pay $4850, the original high estimate; plus $368 total dump fee; plus $100 for seeding. I am not sure what will happen after this.

Jose and another gentleman (I apologize I've forgotten his name) performed an excellent job on my two-section townhouse yard: 2 men two hours = 4 man hours for $199. Better results than expected results. I will certainly call upon Moyers Lawnscaping again for service. I applaud Moyers for fitting me into their schedule on my timeframe--I only purchased their deal last week and the work is completed! The equipment used was state-of-the-art. Their communication and superb, Jesse Moyer was extremely professional, as were the crew who arrived to perform the work. I highly recommend Moyers.

They come out biweekly.I have been using them for years. It is a small family owned company and I think their price is competitive, I haven't check the price for a long time. Good quality and they are very responsive.

Our front and back yard seemed to be untouched by the previous owners of the house. As I am not a huge fan of bugs, bushes and unnecessary landscape, I want several things done. To give the gist, it want several plants/trees to be uprooted, the ground be re-tilled with new soil and then mulch placed on top. In addition, I wanted the regular lawn maintenance for weeds and cleaning up around the yard. I spoke with someone yesterday who schedule for a time slot for this morning for 7-10am. The person said that they would be there close to 7am...that didn't happen. I called around 9:45 to find out if someone is planning to come still; she put me on hold and found out the approximate time of arrival. It was just inconvenient as I had another appointment scheduled after and they coincided. However, Marco was the gentleman that came out. I showed him around and the different areas that I showed he helped explain the types of plants I had and also answered any questions I had. He was very courteous and apologized for the late arrival. But he was pleasant so I didn't really mind after he arrived. When I had to go back to the other person, he continued to look around and take notes. He was there for almost 45 minutes I believe and left me with a quote on paper with all the notes he took.. We have not gone through with the services yet.

I highly recommend them. They are very dependable, not the most inexpensive service out there. For me, it is worth it for the service that I get from them. And all the people that come here to the house are professional and very nice. And when I am here by myself, I do not feel worried at all. They are great.

The last treatment they gave the lawn destroyed about 65-70% of our lawn. We had requested "spot" treatment of some crabgrass plus a section of the backyard that was infested with Bermuda grass. We knew that small section in the backyard was going to be killed off but we were not expecting our entire backyard to be decimated. Not only the backyard but close to half the front yard was destroyed. We had used Moyers for the past several years and they did an OK job. Nothing great but OK. We thought we could trust them to know what they were doing when we asked them for the spot treatment From the conversation with the technician, we understood there would be some brown spots here and there where the crabgrass was growing and the section where the Bermuda grass section would be destroyed. We have contacted the owner on several occasions to see how the situation could be rectified and never received even an acknowledgment from the owner that there is even a problem. We sent pictures and called a couple of times. In addition, we have written two letters over a period of two months with no written response. He did have the technician who treated the lawn call but the owner himself has done nothing to address the issue. To my knowledge, he hasn't even come out to see the extent of the damage to the lawn. The technician did offer to come out and do core aeration and re-seed the yard but he was still going to charge $100.00. By that time, we were fed up dealing with a company that obviously cared very little about its clients and have since moved onto another company knowing we would not receive any redress for the damage to our lawn. We had several other companies come out and look at the lawn and tell us how it could be repaired. Needless to say, they were shocked to see what Moyers had done to the lawn. Each company said the only way that much damage could have been done to the lawn is if the technician simply used RoundUp on not only the Bermuda grass but the other weeds as well. Meanwhile we've had to spend a lot of money using another lawn company to salvage what is left of our lawn. What that means is that we had to tear up and sod the entire backyard and a good portion of the front. If anyone wants to see the pictures of the damage to our lawn, we will gladly provide them. In summation, even though we had used Moyers in the past, there is no way that we could recommend them. The worst part is that they didn't care at all about the damage they had caused and took no action to address the situation. No apology, no effort to even address the situation.

I had Moyers tear out an extremely nasty, overgrown, hedge, i.e., over 10 feet high, falling over, and full of thorns and vines. This hedge was about 30' long, and we had tried to do it ourselves, but couldn't accomplish it due to the roots being so entangled with each other and the vines. They sent a crew of 4? guys who worked all day with picks and shovels to get it out. They missed a couple of places and Moyers promptly sent out someone to dig those out. Will use again.

They did great work, but there was a slight miscommunication in terms of pricing. Specifically, they tried to charge me for a service that they forgot to itemize on the original estimate. They did agree to remove the charge, however, when I brought this to their attention.

All weeds are now elimated from lawn and flower beds. Flowers all bloomimg. Returned about later to re-weed re-mulch. Five hours 6 man crew additional cost - cleanup each quarter. Lawn will need re-seeding in areas which were covered in weeds - probably in Fall. Fall fertilizing and weed control. Leaves needed to be raked - maple trees. Peonies and hydrnias to be trimed and cut back and annuals to be cleared. Extra cost. Lawn and landscaping should be in good shape by second year. Cost will be cutting and maintaining flower beds. Not asexpensive as first year.

I had wanted two estimates, but was in a time crunch because I was going to be unavailable during the days starting the following week. So I wanted to get the job done sooner than later. Moyer made it a point to make an time to come out, however I completely forgot to respond to let them when I found someone who could do it sooner. They were completely professional. With a newborn, I was absent minded about double booking and I apologize for the inconvenience. I will keep them in mind for future jobs and reference them to friends.

Unfortunately, for them I select another landscaping company

I have young kids and a dog with toys all over the back yard. The servicemen at Moyers take the time to move any toys or balls, instead of running them over, which has happened in the past with other providers. The equipment is in good working condition and my backyard looks like a baseball field with consistent cutting patterns. They are a little more expensive than some other providers out there, but you get quality service and professional results. Well worth it in my opinion, especially come August when it's 95 degrees, I really love Moyers then!
