They promised to start right away and complete the job in a timely manner, which did not happen. The owner, Allen noticed that I wanted attention to detail. He put in the contract that the product would not be perfect, but better than factory standards. Allen never came to oversee the work himself. Sand was left in the finish and nails were showing. The area under the cabinets were left unfinished. When I saw the poor quality of work, I started calling to see what I could do about it. They paid no attention to detail. They said they did things they didn't. They never tried to make it right. They were not licensed as it had lapsed. I ended up getting my money back (except for $800+ dollars) and found a better company to work with.

I was somewhat on the fence when I went for the quote about this much of an investment in a house that I dont expect to own that long and felt like I was pressured into the work, I only agreed because they promised to be finished in advance of the Christmas Holiday. They didn't even start the installation/refinishing until a full 2 weeks after they said they would start and then rushed the job. They did come back once and did some touchups, but it wasn';t enough. There was a lot of glue left on my countertops and lots of nicks, cuts in the woodwork. Also, several of the doors were not hung properly afterward. I do not recommend them. I was quite disappointed considering the substantial money I spent.

I have a company and one of my techs damaged the front door of one of my customer's (Mr and Mrs. Chatkin in Silver Sprint, MD) by accident around September 15, 2010. Therefore, I did a search on Better Business Bureau for companies that specialized in wood refinishing and found Montgomery Refinishing Service, Inc. The reason I chose them was because they had an A+ rating in BBB. I called them and I talked to Alan, the president of the company and explained the situation. He was very courteous and helpul. In addition to doors he also specializes in cabinet and furniture refinishing. He seemed very knowledgeable about the industry which called my attention and gave it a try to get an estimate and contract the work. He told me the finish was damaged and the whole door needed to be stripped and re-finished. The crew came to do the work and they were very professional and communicated very well along the whole process. The job literally took all day long with 2 technicians. Originally I thought the price was a little high for a door but then I found out how much work is involved in the process. The door is 100% wood with 6 panels. They stripped the whole door by hand using a chemical stripper, then they sanded the whole thing to smooth out the surface until no more finish was visible, then they apply 2 coats of stains and 2 coats of gloss finish. After the job was completed the door virtually looked like knew. My customers were thrilled and their expectation were exceeded. The door was already peeling and damaged before the accident happen. However, even though the door had damages I had to do the whole thing. At the end, the customer ended up winning with a practically new door. Bottom line is that despite the whole headaches and trouble, Montgomery Refinishing helped save the door and would have cost a lot more to replace it. I'm buying a new house and I would definately use them again to refinish my kitchen cabinets in the future. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
