Description of Work: PROBLEM: A very loud, continual banging of house copper piping when any water source was turned on/used...especially at 'low flow' rates. SERVICE PERFORMED: Complete diagnostic of the house fresh water supply....including a test of both Pressure Relief Valve and Water Meter. The problem was confirmed to be associated with a defect in the Main Water Meter and the hard copy report provided by Jorge ( Onsite representative of Wheat and Sons) was of significant help in expediting further repairs by WSSC (Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.....Water Meter can only be serviced by WSSC). SUMMARY: From our initial phone call to request service...to our receipt of the final hard copy service report prepared and emailed.......ALL was indicative of a PROFESSIONAL Company and a well-managed business.....from all aspects. Highly recommend.

James A Wheat & Sons contacted me immediately to confirm the address of the property on which I was receiving service, as the address listed in my profile is outside of their service area. They communicated quickly and directly - no issues at all with the vendor! Also very happy with the refund process from Angie's List as there was no specific language even hinting to the fact that the company did not service my area.

Description of Work: My A/C was not working well and I was looking for a coupon. I called the company to ask if they accept it after describing the problem with my A/C. They confirmed and said I will get a service the same day I called. After I purchased the coupon I called them to schedule a service and a few minutes later I got a call from them. They said the coupon does not work when I already have a problem with my A/C, and that I needed a diagnose rather than an inspection. I scheduled a diagnose for a full price, but later cancelled it as I found a significantly cheaper offer with another company on Angie's.

Description of Work: This is an update to the previous review. I had originally given this plumber a poor review because the work was not completed properly and the company was not as responsive as I would expect. I am now raising the review to a B, because they sent someone out to correct the problems.

Description of Work: I called to schedule an appointment for a clogged kitchen drain. When asked for my address and I indicated that I lived in SE of Washington, DC, I was immediately told that the company did not service SE. I inquired why and was placed on hold.

Description of Work: This service was contracted to complete an inspection of the sewer pipes in a 1940's home for potential buyers. The cleaning was completed and filmed. However, the workers went through the toilet instead of the access pipe and charged extra. Some other charges were also added for other "sevices" to be provided if needed in the future. These were not requested. Although all extra charges were removed, the buyers felt that they were constantly being pressured to buy additional services. They would not recommend this company.

Description of Work: Contractor responded quickly to a telephone call about a clogged toilet. Showed up within a couple of hours. Snaked out the toilet and solved the problem. I was highly satisfied with the employee (Justin) and the services he provided. Price did not seem unreasonable.

Description of Work: Installed battery backup for sump pump $1200 and noticed my hot water tank was leaking...came back next day (Saturday) and installed new one ($1900). Service guy was very nice and seemed to genuinely care. I was extremely pleased with their work and responsiveness

Description of Work: Our dryer vent was full of lint and James A Wheat quickly and efficiently cleaned it out so that it now works as intended. The technician was very polite and explained what was blocking the air passage. The price was reasonable as well. I would recommend this company for this type of repair. I am considering them for any future HVAC/AC repairs that may be needed.

Description of Work: We had a "Whole House Plumbing Inspection & Water Heater Flush". The technician informed me and showed me everything that needed to be done with the cost differences. We ended up needing 2 toilets repaired in which 1 needed total replacement. While he was working on seeing about a washer leak, I was allowed to run up to Home Depot to purchase a toilet, which saved me from having to make another appointment. The technician was very clean and attentive to not letting my cats escape the room. I would recommend this company. I have also used them in the past for Chimney cleaning.

Description of Work: The plumber came in response to an Angie's List Big Deal whole house plumbing inspection. The plumber was highly professional and pointed and even corrected some minor plumbing problems during his nearly two hour inspection. He was a pleasure to deal with and took the time to teach what to look for going forward. Highly recommended.

Description of Work: I had used James Wheat and Sons for several years (since 2000) to service and repair my gas fireplace. Every year they would inspect my gas fireplace. In about 2005 they told me I needed to replace the logs. I got an estimate from them and replaced the logs at a cost of approximately $700 and they worked fine. In or about 2008, during a routine fall inspection they told me that the logs and base and whole system was dangerous and needed repair or replacement. I asked them to send me an estimate. They charged me $100 or so for a service fee but did not send me any estimate. I called multiple times and then was told that they would check the files and get back to me. Then I finally got an estimate from them several months later stating that everything had to be replaced and would cost $4,500! I did not use the fireplace that year and eventually called another company to come and inspect the fireplace. This second company said there was nothing wrong with the gas fireplace at all, did the annual inspection, and now we are using it. I was truly shocked at the behavior of James Wheat & Sons -- that they would not stand behind their own work and that they would try to rip me off in this way. Steer clear!

Description of Work: I responded to the online special which was to check various aspects of the plumbing efficiency in my older home. Specifically, I had been having some ongoing issues with my water pressure. The technician came in a timely manner, and communication with the company pertaining to scheduling was excellent. I was impressed with the politeness, professional manner, and explanations provided concerning several possible areas of concern in the future. The supply line to my toilet line was corroded from my well water and broke while the technician was checking the toilet. He replaced it with a new line at no extra cost. He identified the problem of the water pressure because the well pressure gauge and switch were not functioning properly. I was given an estimate, and an explanation of different choice options depending on whether or not I signed on for their "Eagle" agreement. At the same time he was here, I had a man here because I had some questions about my well water. The technician was equally as polite and professional with the well gentleman as he was with me. Because it is my nature to "shop' for prices, I called the well company for an estimate on the same work (to replace gauge and switch) Since it is approximately $100.00 less, and I have a positive relationship with them, I will use the well company to do my work. I would definitely use Wheat and Sons again.

Description of Work: My husband called and left a message to schedule an appointment for a repair of our gas fireplace. Someone returned his call with a voice mail suggesting he might be able to come out the same day. When my husband returned this voice mail, the individual he spoke with was very rude on the phone. First, he suggested that because we were not prior customers, he would not be able to help us. Then, he proposed dates in mid-February. When my husband mentioned the message about coming out that day, the individual responded, "that ain't gonna happen." When my husband suggested that the individual was being unpleasant and that we would take our business somewhere else, he responded "fine" and hung up the phone.
