It went fine. The HVAC tech arrived on time, reviewed the 22 year old system that had stopped working. Because it would take a week to get new equipment in, I decided to go ahead and have more coolant put into the old system, I was credited 50% of the coolant costs towards the new high efficiency system I ordered. Happily the installers showed up on time, were very polite, took away all the old materials and did a fine job installing the new system. The plumber, Shane, came as scheduled by me earlier in the week. He was on time, very polite and professional. He fixed the laundry drain, replaced the written out pieces of pipe and installed the new toilet. Everything continues to work great. I found James Wheat & Sons in a guide by Montgomery County Maryland as having good service reviews, then I double checked with Angie List and chose them. I would use them again.

Quality of service and pricing. Try to find somebody different. They were fine until they drop the unit and try to hide it.

We were impressed by their responsiveness, promptness and professionalism. The dispatcher called us first thing Monday morning to tell us their rates and add us to their schedule for the day, and we were called a couple hours later to tell us that the repair person would be at our house at 11 a.m. and he was punctual. The technician explained what he found and what he was doing each step of the job clearly and with enough detail that we trust his word and his work. We were also impressed that there was no attempt to sell us something we didn't need. We have had many years of experiences with repair services over the course of 3 HVAC systems and the cost for this repair was very very reasonable. The bottom line is that our HVAC system was operating properly within hours of our call in a week long period of hot weather.

Provider made the requested inspections and provided detailed reports. However, we got the impression the provider was trying to upsell us into replacing both units, even though they were in satisfactory condition. Curiously, they recommended we purchase a service contract even though they knew we had sold our house. It was particularly disturbing that that the inspector indicated that our furnace may have cracked heat exchangers because the flames blew upwards when the furnace started up. This would have been an expensive repair. Since we have a home warranty, and Wheat was not one of their service providers, we called in another company (assigned by the warranty company) to check this out. They found that the flames blew upwards because a screw was missing on one of the burners and replaced the screw, thus ending the upward blowing flames. The "thorough" inspection by Wheat made no mention of the missing screw, which should have been obvious. This was the result of either incompetence or a calculated decision to sell us a new furnace.

I used these plumbers a few times, but only because I ended up purchasing their protection plan. Some of the guys were professional, some less so. I believe all the plumbing work done was done correctly, but I recently found out about issues with my heat pump that I think they should have noticed during their 'annual inspection.' They were always able to come quickly when I needed service. One annoyance was that during a plumbing inspection they put dye through my toilet to check for leaks - no problem with the concept, but the blue dye splashed all over my bathroom and it took forever to scrub off. I had to repaint a section of wall where I just couldn't get it off/scrubbed so hard I removed paint. My bigger issue though was a visit when I had a days-old newborn and felt taken advantage of with the prices charged for the parts available on the truck. I had a feeling that I was overpaying, but I needed my kitchen sink to work, and didn't have the energy or time to find another plumber, schedule an appointment, and wait for another plumber to come. It's on me that I agreed to pay, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and as soon as I could get out of the service agreement I did. Lastly, there is a woman named Katie who works in their office and calls people with the protection plan to schedule their annual inspections. She couldn't possibly have worse customer service skills if she tried. I don't care if a service is already paid for, if you leave me a message alternating between whining and scolding, I'm not going to want work with you.

That one was, it was good but it turn out to cost more than I thought. Only because I wish they would disclose the additional fee that they charge upfront before actually starting any of the work because there was extra things that they bill me for but after it was done. maybe not taking as long because they seem to have taken quiet a long time to do something that I didn't think require much time as it did

Arrived, looked at the unit, and gave me a refund since it was a type they couldn't do.

It went great! The advice was clear and I felt the recommendations were needed.

The young man who came out was very helpful and very knowledgeable. I just moved here and I never had a gas fireplace so he helped me understand what to do and not to do. I was very happy with the service.

UPDATE#: The company rescheduled the service for the estimate. I am happy that the company made this right. ************************************************************************************************************************************************** I was informed by the customer representative that the estimate to place an water pan under the w/d would be performed at the same time as the fireplace service. The estimate was not performed as promised, and I was told by their service manager that they had to send a plumber back to the property for additional $35. I was later told that another plumber had to perform an estimate to place a plastic pan under a w/d unit.

Well done - excellent tune-up ($99) - also installed a new Thermopile - Angie's price $220 ,regular price would have been $440+ or so, technician said. Technician was knowledgeable and service was a much better result than previous companies' work. Well-done!

I contacted them for several price quotes on a number of different items. I received only 1 of these quotes approximately 3 weeks later - but only after I had emailed them and also placed multiple calls to find out where the proposals were. When things go this wrong, it leaves me wondering how this firm receives an A rating (which they do not deserve). Thankfully, I only wasted an hour of my time one morning. This work could have easily totaled upwards of $25,000. Their loss, not mine.

We lost heat over the holiday weekend. I called first thing Monday morning and my call was returned early Monday morning. The scheduler understood my situation however given such short notice did not think she could get someone to see us until Tuesday. However she called me back later and was able to get someone there later that day. The tech came - I was at work- my son was able to be there and quickly diagnosed the problem and got us heat again. I am completely satisfied with the work Wheat and sons did.

Services unavailable at my location despite Angie's Listing saying that they were.

The company replaced my furnace and performed duct sealing work for a total of $7554. However, as part of the work, James a Wheat were supposed to submit a rebate for the duct sealing work worth approximately $1200. However they have have not responded to any of my inquiries regarding the rebate often directing me to someone out of the office or to a person such as Michael Carey who never returns my call. I reached out to PEPCO who noted that James A Wheat did not submit a rebate for this work. This is extremely negligent and very poor customer service. In addition, during performing the work they often tried to get me to do additional work by lying about items in the code such as fire/xco2 alarms. The inspector noted that they were incorrect. I picked the contractor because they had good ratings on Angies list but discovered that the service that this company provides is not what is advertised.

got an email after purchasing before thanksgiving giving me three dates they could schedule me in early december. never heard from them. finally i called and they said they could not schedule me till January. why would they give me three dates to choose from and never follow up after i submitted them. poor responsiveness. cannot give them a favorable rating.

Estimator arrived on November 6, 2015 to evaluate 2 fireplaces for gas installations. Estimator did not seem interested in the job. Estimator told home owner that they would receive an estimate via e-mail over the November 7, 2015 weekend. Home owner has called twice requesting the estimate be send to them. As of today, no estimate has been received. I would not recommend this service provider.

The technician, Jon Serino, and his assistant arrived just outside the expected window, but were good at communicating their whereabouts and providing ETA's. The technician identified that the wall switch, which was no longer functioning, was faulty and in need of an upgrade. He patiently walked me through how to manually light the pilot light and offered various upgraded services, including special glass cleaning, a remote switch, a rebuild (previous configuration, with just logs and no embers meant that gas was not burning optimally), and a service contract. I opted for the rebuild and the service contract since the latter provided a discount on the former and also includes the glass cleaning and another free routine maintenance check. While trying to upgrade the wall switch, the technician dropped the wires in the wall. He was forced to fish them out through the fireplace, apologized profusely, and gave me the option of opening up the wall for rewiring or installing a remote for the same price as a new wall switch. I chose the remote. Service was professional and efficient, and results were satisfactory.

The technician was very professional yet friendly..very informative re my fireplace & some of its peculiarities..also politely informing me of his companies offerings that I might be interested in.

Well done and helpful The only glitch was that the office did not call us the day before, as they had advised, regarding timing of the visit.
