Deck quality is outstanding. It looks like a new deck. Price was fair. I had 3 deck guys come out for quotes . Deck Armor and another contractor were both around $4K. Another quoted $11K. Went with Jim based on price and Angie's List reviews. He provided an Angie's List discount as well. The only negatives are that I had some issues on overall communication during the project. Deck Armor has a full schedule, so I had to wait over a month before work began. Also had a few issues with clean-up afterward, but Jim resolved everything.

My deck looks great! Jim gave me an estimate based on photos I sent. The project was very delayed because of the number of days of rain in May and June. My one suggestion to Jim is to keep in touch with customers with contracts to update them on where they fall in the schedule. Even a "maybe" date is reassuring when you have put down a deposit and are waiting. I still gave the company an overall A because the quality of the work is more important to me. The main work was scheduled on a Sunday, which was appreciated, to avoid more rain delays. The work was done very professionally and carefully. They examined and replaced any wood that was in bad shape. The workers had to apply the coating by hand, which took them much longer. They didn't cut corners to finish, but took time to sand any splinters between coats. They were friendly and polite and cleaned up the area. If I need this type of work done again, I would hire Deck Armor.

Jim and his crew did a fine job. They were punctual, did good work, and cleaned up when they were done. They missed a couple of things, but came back in a timely fashion to finish the work. I would definitely use their services again.

Job was to clean and remove existing stain; minor repair (nails and light sanding); refinish with semi-transparent stain, a 250+ SF deck with 13 stair steps and 2 landings. I contacted 3 providers through Angie's List and Jim was able to come out quickly to see the deck and give me an estimate. Deck Armor offers several levels of service. I selected a "middle" package, so Jim's bid was not the lowest. But I had used them on a previous job and was very pleased with the product and the experience. I liked the fact that Deck Armor includes sanding the surfaces in their preparation and I was able to specify the exact brand and color of finish...not forced to use a firms preferred brand. The actual process was painless. The only real effort on my part was to make sure I had everything off the deck before the crew arrived. Inclement weather pushed the staining process out a little farther than anticipated, but Jim kept me in the loop via email (my preferred method) at every step. I live in a townhouse, so I was concerned about protecting the adjacent property and my hot tub/patio under the deck. The crew did a great job of protecting everything...not a drop of stain out of place. The crew also left the remaining 1/2 gallon of stain for touch ups. Overall...a very positive experience. I have no problem recommending them and will definitely consider using them again in the future.

Jim was professional, fair price, insisted I take the time to try out the stain color. I picked out before doing the job to make sure. I liked it. The deck looks great. They did a good job cleaning up afterwards and finished the job promptly.

The Deck Armor guys were very responsive and professional. They came out promptly when we asked for a quote and provided a thorough discussion of our options - to replace the whole deck or to replace just the damaged boards and give us a no-maintenance paint job. The price for the second option was well within the budget that we had imagined when we thought of doing it ourselves, so we signed up. They told us they would come within 2 weeks to start the job and finish by September 10th. They started with the cleaning and carpentry and finished with the paint job and then a final touch-up. It took a little longer than the 10th, but that was due to weather, so can't be held against them. The finished deck looks great. It's been 2 months and the paint job has held up well to the weather and us moving stuff about. The new carpentry (replaced damaged boards on the floor of the deck and 2 rails) looks great. We're pleased.

We were able to negotiate price based on photos and measurements, so my first in-person meeting with Jim was when the crew came to power wash. They thoroughly cleaned the deck and railings using power wash and scrub brush. A few days later, they sanded, re-set nails, and made repairs. They masked off the house with plastic, and protected the neighboring townhouse's deck and siding as well. Last, they applied several coats of stain. Everything went as promised. The workmen were very courteous and careful of all the property. Everything was cleaned up after each visit. I'm very pleased with the quality of the work and the finished appearance. Will definitely recommend!

I am very happy with the deck refinishing job performed by Deck Armor! My deck needed some serious refinishing. The previous owners had painted the deck with cheap paint, which was peeling like crazy, and the wood was splintering and cracking - my kids were constantly getting slivers. It was clear that the deck needed to be refinished other wise the deck boards were going to totally split and rot and need a total replacement. I could tell it was going to be a major job because the first thing that needed to be done was to get rid of the paint on the deck (wrong thing to use, decks should have stain!). it is a large deck on the second floor with a long staircase - I definitely didn't have the time to do it myself so I decided to hire the job out. Jim came out to the house and took measurements, and gave me a very clear understanding of what was involved with the refinishing and what the cost would be. His cost was very competitive with the other estimates I had, so I decided to go with Deck Armor. They came out a week after that and pressure washed the deck and applied a paint stripper. It rained alot the next two weeks, so I had to wait for the next steps. When we got some good weather, Jim and Juan came out to the house and sanded the deck down to get it smooth and to get off much of the remaining paint. They did ALOT of prep work before applying an ounce of stain, which is going to make a big difference in how long the stain lasts. After laying down plastic to protect the house, they applied the stain with a spray gun, rollers and brushes (paint applied with spray gun was rolled/brushed over to make sure it got into the wood). Between coats of stain they sanded the boards to avoid buildup and to keep the surfaces free of clumps of stain. In the end they applied 5-6 coats of stain on the deck boards, and 2-3 coats on the spindles and railings. All in all, it took about 3 days and they did a great job, even though they had to work in some sweltering heat. They even added a gate with a latch for $250, to help corral my kids on the deck. Jim gave me pointers about how to care for the deck in the years to come - with touch ups and a fresh coat of stain every couple years, the deck should last a very long time. They are very professional and personable, and Jim is great about communicating about schedule/contract. Would definitely recommend this company, and would go with them again for another job.

Working with Jim from Deck Armor was a great experience. Jim was able to come the next day from the initial call to take a look at the deck. Being local to the company has it's advantages. Jim gave his honest opinion and never tried to sell a product that was not needed for the deck. He explanation on the process and the different types of products people ask for was excellent. In the end he was clear whatever we wanted to do was perfectly ok but wanted to give his honest and professional opinion. This trait is truly rare now days. The deck was in excellent condition so we decided to go with the power wash and re-staining. Jim kept a eye on the weather and called me to tell me when he was coming out. This guy is jack of all trades. The other crew were busy and because our deck was not that big he was able to power wash the deck by himself. After the power wash was completed and it started to dry up the next day, wow what a difference. Their company with many tries finally found the best solution to get the deck nice and clean. Once the deck was completely dry and the weather forecast was ideal for staining, the process began and took one day to complete. Also they did the best job to sand down the deck without damaging the wood because wood naturally starts to split on the surface. Jim came back the next day to remove all the plastic sheets they placed earlier to protect the house siding and do the necessary touch-up. Excellent work ethics and the job was done properly. Jim, the manager/estimator, did a terrific job coming up with a winning bid to get my large deck and screened porch combination in great shape, and stayed in-touch with me and with his guys to ensure the job went off well. The guys doing the work were really hard workers. They removed the old screen, power washed the mildewy stub deck and the outside of the screened porch, replaced some of the wood, installed new screening, fixed the broken doors and stained the stub deck and outiside of the screened porch. They worked late into the night of the second day to finish the job and did a fine job clreaning up after themselves. All in all, a stellar job!

Deck Armor came and provided options for us to provide the best value. Jim was friendly and answered all of my questions. Once we decided on the services he provided an additional discount to use custom stain (cherry) that he had in stock rather than having to purchase a new stain for our application. We are very happy with the color. Work was completed quickly and over the weekend. The completed the power washing and construction work on Saturday and the staining on Sunday. We had some railings that were uneven on one of the decks and he made some modification to even out the railings at no additional charge. We were using the deck again on Tuesday. Very happy with the results. The only complaint I would have is that they left some stain on the grass and on the plants surrounding the deck and didn't clean the windows that were all mucked up during power washing.

It went great. The company was very responsive, came when they said they'd come, walked us through options and did a really nice job on the fence. The price was very fair and lower than others. The finished job looks much bEnter than other staining jobs we've had done. I old definitely recommend them.

Once the weather cooperated, they came in and fixed what we had discussed and then applied the coating in my choice of color. It looks incredible.

Last year when I just bought a new house, my deck needed to be fixed. It was neglected and weather beaten, very old and rustic. It took me a while to find a company that could fix it and not charge a fortune. I have never dealt with deck repair companies before and had a lot of questions. Jim @Deck Armor was the only one who explained how the whole process works and what I should be expecting from him without promising anything he can’t do.
