Tech informed 2 days before all the material that I would need to buy to replace the power outlets. On the day of job, he changed 7 power lets and 1 GFS outlet in restroom in whole unit within 2 hrs of licensed time. Did service on gfs switch in kitchen and overall it went good. Answered a followup call and Tech made sure that there are no issues with the work done.

I bought the 'Big Deal' for 2 hours of electrician service. The technician came and rewired the bathroom exhaust fan to add a second wall switch so we can turn on the fan and light independently. This took about an hour, so I had another hour left. There was some debate as to whether I would get one service item versus the full 2 hours. He agreed that I was due 2 hours of his time, so he reconnected power to my utility shed. All work was done in a professional manner. The 'deal' was for labor - I had to pay for 'parts & materials', which was fine.

I bought their Big Deal coupon. They were okay; I do not think I was clear on the exact time that they were going to be here and it seemed like they were a little bit late. They were talking and looked into it and finally gave me a good time that they would come back. Once they were here, as long as I asked the questions, they would answer; but they were not forthcoming and seemed a little abrupt. I was not as pleased with them.

The work itself was terrific and very cost effective and the service guy was wonderful. Scheduling was a problem because the day of the week did not correspond with the date--we went by Thursday and arranged our work schedules accordingly whereas the device was scheduled by the date. When we called to complain, the owner yelled at us. Eventually the clerical error was acknowledged as being their responsibility and a fee adjustment request was honored. Many positives about the service but the owner's demeanor could have been a bit more professional.

Thank you for taking time to post your review and we apologize again for the misunderstanding about scheduling an appointment for a day that does not exist (Thursday 4/26/13). For the record, the client thought we were coming on Friday 4/26, and we had it on our calendar for Thursday 4/25. We were able to accomodate the change from Thursday to Friday when the error was discovered. Both our email and postcard to the subscriber had the wrong date, but unfortunately no one recognized the error. We accepted full responsibility and made sure that everything else was perfect.

First, I'd most likely use CET again. The reason provided an online request is due to their website and A.L. reviews. The company seems large enough and website professional. The reason I went with them over a very highly regarded local provider was because they charge by hourly rate and if I used flat rate fee provider for all the other items I want done in the house it would be cost prohibitive. My online request was clear and thorough: Vent fan first that might be complicated by a split circuit, and potential for a lot more future work. I assumed incorrectly he'd have the time to do a thorough assessment of the home's electrical system. Of the three factors, I was willing to be flexible on time but need competitive price and high quality because I knew the job would require some assessing to do it right. The job was scheduled about 10 days out and I used one of the web site's coupons. The technician was only told the job entailed vent hood hook up and nothing more so it took him a little longer than he anticipated. What made the job a little more complex than most is that the splice was on a split circuit and we/he had to choose which of the of the three circuits would be best to use. I knew the vent fan hook up could have effects for long-term kitchen upgrades and wanted to avoid cascading problems for future upgrades. It's a 1978 Quincy built home in Columbia and electrical code at that time was relatively weak and so I worried the job would become complex quickly. Because of my concerns, the technician explained to me while at the electrical panel what is entailed: To evaluate putting more items or load on a circuit one has to measure the Amperage draw and know exactly all the items on the circuit. I'm pretty certain he didn't do this and I'm assuming he used some rule of thumb to decide which of the three circuits to install the vent fan. This vent fan doesn't draw a lot of Amps but it is in addition to what's already there so I assumed some type of assessment would need to be done. In the end the technician avoided the 20A split circuit connected to outlets above the counter in favor of circuit with lights (15A). By wiring it this way, he avoided any future problem with it affecting the counter outlets which I'd like to have upgraded to GFCI but with the constraint that a fridge is on that circuit too. I'm clearly not an expert on electrical codes. However, I didn't get the sense the technician was an expert on codes either especially relative to future GFCI upgrades planned. So, that will have to wait until the next time. But, I am confident the work he did do was safe and up to code.
Description of Work: Assessed wiring and created a connection for a stove vent hood. As anticipated, a light switch and outlet (receptacle) had to be moved along with new wiring connecting to a down-stream receptacle. Two junction boxes with covers provided. They were up front they do NOT install the hood, only the electrical which was fine with me.

This was an AL Big Deal that specified that we do not repair drywall damage that is necessary with this type of installation. Additionally, we discussed this issue when scheduling the project so there was no misunderstanding. We feel that it is unfair to give a poor review after agreeing to the specific issue that you are criticizing.

CET sent Alan, a very competent and personsable elctrician to fix the problem. It was obvious that he was very experienced when he quickly identified and repaired the problem. He was willing to take the time to explain to me in some detail exactly what had gone wrong.I would definitely use CTI again, but would ask specifically for Alan. My only problem with CTI was that I had to wait several days to get them to send someone.

I would highly recommend Certified Electrical Technologies. Their electricial arrived promptly and completed all of the work efficiently and under estimate. We requested to have one lighting fixture replaced, one new one installed, one light kit from one ceiling fax exchanged for another and to have the electrical connection to the water heater checked. The electrician was polite and knowledgable and completed all of the requested tasks an hour earlier than expected. He explained all of the work he completed to me and patiently answered all of my questions. They originally estimated $400 for the cost of all these tasks however the eventual cost was $295.

This was the third time that Certified came to help with our electrical needs since we moved into our new condo in December 2012. The firm is very professional and does an excellent job. This time, the technician quickly connected previously wired sconces and installed an overhead light fixture in the bedroom. We also discussed installing spot lights in the living room and, after reviewing many possibilities, decided not to do so. I appreciated his advice not to spend the money on having Certified do a difficult and costly job.

The lights and fan were not working in my guest bathroom. There was another recepticle in the same bathroom that was working correctly. After several hours of personal troubleshooting, I determined that it was most likely an open circuit somewhere in the run between the last connection and to the box that housed the two switches for the lights and fan. So I called Certified Electrical Technologies and scheduled a service call for a week later. Dave was on time and very professional. He wore shoe covers as soon as he stepped into the house. He spent the 1st hour troubleshooting the dead connection. He checked all the outlets and switches on the same floor as the guest bathroom. He also checked all the GFI outlets. After an hour, and he couldn't find the issue, he suggested that he wasn't going to be able to troubleshoot any further without cutting open the drywall. The first cut was in the guest bathroom itself to see where the wires came from. The cut confirmed that the wires were coming from downstairs. It looked like the wires might have connections to a small laundry room downstairs or to a small fire detector. Dave then made another cut in the drywall in the laundry room but there were no wires in that cut. He then thought that the wires should be exposed in the next set of studs, so made a cut there, but still no wires. He then went back upstairs and drilled from the original drywall cut in the guest bathroom down into the ceiling of the floor below. This showed that the wires most likely never entered the laundry room but instead bypassed it to wherever it went. His solution was to connect power from the lightbulb in the laundry room to the switches in the guest bathroom. The solution required another cut in the drywall, this time to the ceiling of the laundry room. The drywall cutting and solution took another hour, so the whole visit was a little over 2 hours. I gave the overall experience a B, because I feel that he probably could have fixed the problem with just two cuts to the drywall, instead of the 4 cuts that he made. Maybe this is obvious in hindsight, I'm not sure, but my opinion and feeling is that the job was a B because of the 2 additional cuts. When Dave was done, he vacuumed all the drywall dust and drilled all the drywall cutouts to a piece of wood behind the drywall. All I have to do is patch and paint. I would use CET again, but just be careful when the job requires opening up drywall.

No time was wasted from arrival to departure. I had Michael & Son come to the home to do some work at the end of last year, and they itemized everything and was pretty on the high end of pricing. I guess they need to pay for all of that TV advertising. Completely satisfied with the work I had done for the price.
Description of Work: The main purpose of my call was to replace a broken dimmer switch in my kitchen and also troubleshoot what I thought was a broken circuitbreaker switch in my circuitbreaker box. They attempted to resolve the GFI problem guiding me as I looked at the circuitbreaker panel. I wasn't expecting this, as it seemed too proactive, but glad they did. A technician came out to the house the next day 3/26, and replaced the dimmer switch quickly. They also demonstrated the proper resetting of the circuitbreaker (GFI). I failed to switch the breaker all of the way to the left when I was initially on the phone. Although a bit embarrassed, the resolution of that item was very quick. We also checked all of the GFI outlets inside and outside my home to ensure my satisfaction. I believe the minimal charge for the call was $135 for 1 hr (note: charges were not per item fixed). Since I had 30 minutes left on my hour of service, the technician installed an outside light fixture I had sitting for 5 months when I had my house's siding replaced. I plan to use this service again when I have a couple of things that need attention, however I might not be eager to spend $135 for a simple job, unless of course it's a hazard. Keep up the good work and service.

Thank you for the great review. Our service coordinators will spend as much time as necessary to try to resolve minor repairs over the phone. We do not want to charge a client for something they can easily do themselves. When it is necessary to schedule a service visit we will send a highly-experieinced tech to solve the problem. We keep the first hour of service less expensive than many other firms so small repairs do not seem overly expensive.

It went well for what apparently the "inspection" was to entail. This superficial level of examination was not what I expected. I had called the company prior to the appointment and asked several questions about the depth of evaluation of the overall operation of the electrical service in my house, but apparently when I asked if it would be "inspected" I perhaps should have asked if it would be "evaluated or tested" since inspection meant visual only. I know better for next time.
Description of Work: While the technician was very pleasant, on time and courteous, I had a different depth of inspection in mind from the one the technician stated he was sent to perform. He checked all visible outlets visually... There was no attempt to visually inspect outlets behind furniture, nor was their any actual testing of the outlets that were easily visible. There were a few recommendations made concerning the lack of GFI plugs in the bathrooms, and the need for the ceiling fan to be on a separate circuit (that would have to be added since there isn't one available.)

Thank you for the feedback, but your description of what took place is not accurate. We test every accessible outlet in the home (with a tester) to ensure that it is wired properly. It is true that we will not move or disassamble heavy furniture (beds, armoires, etc.) to get to inaccessible outlets. We also test and tighten every connection in the electrical service panel to ensure that each connection is tight. Other parts of the inspection are visual like confirming if GFCI outlets and Smoke Detectors are present in the correct locations. Most people find our 10 Point Safety Check very helpful since it provides them with a better understanding of their electrical system and identifies any potential safety issues. They also find it is an excellent value at only $89.
