All contractors should take note from him and the service. Estimate time the standard 12-3, he called ten minutes prior to ensure that I was home, and again, performed to the contract.

 + -1 moreForest seems to be very skilled as well as up to date on technologies such as LEDs. Forest did most of the work and had some aesthetic recommendations (light placements) based on lots of experience that REALLY make the place look great! Due to time constraints on my part, Rob finished the installation. These guys are very knowledgeable and professional! Both of them were especially communicative in wanting to know my preferences, and thats probably what made this work out so well. I am a very happy customer, would use Certified again, and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: I had EVERYTHING replaced in my new property. About 15 recessed lights installed, some pendants and a chandelier. All outlets and plugs were modernized. Pricing was very reasonable, considering I had special requests and materials that I wanted. They put in 5 LED lights that I am VERY happy with (I supplied these my self, but would go with their recommendations for similar product if I had to do it again). It was my choice for the new technology and now I have 5 semi-permanent recessed lights that run on 12 watts each, on an electronic dimmer, that should last 30 hears. Very green. I had some other unusual issues like very crowded space in the ceiling and double layers of drywall. They negotiated these very well. Everything is well spaced and symetrical, and installation was flawless.

 + -1 moreThe service technician Glenn Bablicki arrived on time, quickly diagnosed the problem and quickly replaced the faulty plug. In the process he pointed out where the installer had erred and connected the wall plug with an alternate connection which should avoid repeating the problem in the future. Upon arrival Glenn donned booties which was much appreciated. The charge for the repairs took into account the Angie's List discount which was applied without request on my part.
Description of Work: I had an intermittent short in a wall plug in my den. Because the plug was in the same circuit as two others, they were shorting-out also.

 + -1 moreCertified Electrical Technologies provided prompt, friendly, professional service. They are excellent diagnosticians and they work neatly and quickly. I appreciate their personal service and their commitment to customer satisfaction.
Description of Work: We called Certified Electrical Technologies because smoke came out of one dimmer switch when it was turned on, and then the fixtures it controlled went out. At the same time, the fixtures controlled by another dimmer switch started to flicker. Gary was able to schedule a service call within two days, and the electrician arrived promptly and diagnosed the problem. Because the specific dimmer switches used in our home are unusual (and unfortunately "high end"), they were not among the equipment carried in his truck. Therefore the electrician had to leave to pick new ones up. He returned quickly and replaced the dimmers. The fixtures are working properly now. The following week I was concerned that we were experiencing a power shortage. Gary came to my home that very day to test the voltage.

 + -1 moreI emailed the company for an estimate, and Gary was very helpful in trying to help me figure out the problem on my own, via email. However, when it was decided that someone would have to come out to my house and look at the unit, Gary lost touch with me. This was over a holiday weekend, so that may have been part of the problem. I finally called Gary, and he was able to send out a tech the next day. The tech (Alan) called and told me when he was going to arrive, but he was about a half-hour late (due to traffic and heavy rain). I was concerned about that because I had an appointment later in the morning, but Alan was able to take care of the problem in about a half-hour. I was also concerned because I had not gotten an estimate on the cost of the work (that was my error) but it turns out it cost much less than I had anticipated.
Description of Work: A wired-in carbon monoxide detector was malfunctioning. The Tech removed the unit and installed a cover (since a different system was being used for carbon monoxide detection).

The company failed to follow up to contact me about my needs. I contacted this company because of the rating given by other customers.

It took a little longer than expected due to the configuration of the fan but it was handled very well. The electrician wanted to make sure there was no problem in the wiring before completing the job. I would definitely use them again.

 + -1 moreTechnician arrived within 10 minutes of schedule. He called 30 minutes earlier to confirm. Discussed what needed to be done. Had to investigate the best alternative to running the new AC circuit from the upstairs kitchen to the basement breaker panel box. He installed the circuit and 2nd outlet (+ cable) in the kitchen using my existing spare circuit breaker. He mounted two other spare breakers I had on hand to have as spares. In the installation of the new outlets, he noticed that my attic fan was seized (which I knew about, but hadn't planned to fix until summer). He told me he had a unit in the truck and could install it while on site. I had him do it. All in all, I got what I paid for. I've used these folks twice and will use them again.
Description of Work: Had a separate AC circuit run for my refridgerator to complete my kitchen renovation. Had a second AC outlet and cable tv outlet installed to mount a TV in the kitchen. Installed attic fan.

Description of Work: My above-the-stove microwave was plugged into an extension-cord type receptacle which was not working. The electrician replaced that with a box receptacle and re-terminated the connection. He also found which circuit the microwave was on since it was not labeled in the electrical panel.

 + 0 moreI called for service to fix plugs and install lighting. Person on phone warned me lighting would be easy and plugs might prove difficult, given that we have an older house. Gave me estimate for both. As predicted lights were easy(although one part of lighting install could not be performed)and plugs proved too difficult. The tech was friendly and profession, and knowledgeable, but he did not have a ton of experience with the type of old house we have. He stopped well short of the expense of the estimate, and he did not even charge me for a part that he had to provide that I had thought I had. Overall excellent experience.

 + -1 moreCompany was very responsive by e-mail setting up an appointment to review the work needed and give an estimate. Technician was prompt and answered all my questions. The work involved going up to the roof and creating an opening into the attic space, installing the cable and threading it down through a wall to an outlet in the bedroom that had formerly held an antenna wire. Service was planned for 8-10 am period, and I received a call at 8 am that technician was tied up in traffic, and exactly when he would arrive. He arrived at that time and proceeded to complete the work as planned. He left extensions available for future cable lines to be placed in other bedrooms.
Description of Work: installed cable to a bedroom TV on the second floor without dragging cable across walls and floor. (I wanted it installed in the attic space, with no unsightly cables showing, and the cable company said they don't do that work anymore, and to call an electrician.)

Description of Work: We had several contractors place bids on an electrical job we are doing. Gary was prompt in getting the bid in, but I didn't have a good feeling about him as I discovered he put up magnets for his company on our fridge and electrical box when I wasn't looking during the walk through. I found that to be very rude. Then we asked for an updated estimate, which he got to us, but in the interim there was confusion over whether we were going to use them or not. I explained that we were not yet ready to use him and he cleared it up, which was appreciated. However, when I sent him an email to say, "Thank you for your time. We have decided to go with another contractor who was able to start today." his response was: "Had you and your husband been capable of making a timely decision, we could have started today as well". I was really offended and found him to be incredibly rude. Everyone else I took a bid from was really pleasant. I then re-read some Angie's list response he posted to someone else's comment, and that seemed snarky, too! Not the contractor for us!

He then spent quite a bit of time inspecting the wiring inside and outside my house, not quitting until he found a solution. Throughout, he was professional and highly knowledgeable. In addition, the charge was extremely reasonable for the work performed. I would recommend Certified Electrical in general and Forest in particular to anyone needing electrical work.
Description of Work: I had been having trouble with the wiring in my home. Several banks of outlets were consistently flickering on and off. Forest, the electrician from Certified Electrical, was able to find and resolve the problem.

It would be nice for this information to be reflected in the Angie's List review on them. The company they referred me to for permitted electrical work in DC did not seem terribly customer friendly, which is why I gave Certified the "C" rating (the referral company does not "schedule" estimates, the contact person at the referral company said he did not know the DC area very well, the referral company only works in DC until 2PM, etc).
