Certified arrived on time and got right to work. The electrician remembered me from some previous work that we had them do. He had the drier outlet (apparently our outlet was original, circa 1957) removed and upgraded in short order and even offered to install my new drier. All Sear's had to do when they came was haul away the old one, so I had my drier operational several days before I expected it. We'll happily hire them again in the future.
Description of Work: Certified upgraded an old and out of code outlet for my electric clothes drier in my basement.

I have an old house and am worried about the state of the wiring (whether it's a fire hazard), so I thought this "whole house inspection" would be just the thing. I guess I should have checked what was involved before paying for this "Big Deal," When the Tech arrived I was disappointed to learn that it was in fact just a "10 point safety check" and two of the "points" where to check the functioning of smoke detectors and appliances, which I could and do take care of myself. Others were things like checking polarity of outlets, seeing whether I had the right kind of outlets in kitchen and bathroom, checking state of the main panel, etc. They weren't going to take anything apart or look at anything inside the walls. When I expressed my disappointment the Tech agreed to detach a few outlets on each floor of the house to spot-check the condition of the wiring. He did this without charging extra and was very courteous and professional and made a few sensible recommendations (upgrade main panel and install surge protection, put GFI protection in kitchen, replace old outlets and switches, etc.), so I've given an A rating to the company even though I was disappointed in the "Big Deal" itself. Even with the extra work he was in my house (two stories, 4 bedrooms, semi-finished basement) for less than an hour. He told me the wiring he saw is in good condition, which is comforting, but he didn't look at very much of it so I think I'll still have to have someone come in for a more thorough job. Maybe I just had unrealistic expectations of what you would get for the usual (non-deal) price of $175.
Description of Work: This was a Big Deal for a "whole house electrical inspection" but turned out to be more of a limited check of a few items.

Certified electric knew right away that the job would look ugly if he installed the lighting to avoid the plenum. I was surprised by the honesty and refusal to do a job that would be an eye sore. He then installed 3 reccedded lights on the higher part of the ceiling and it looks wonderful. He then installed a box in the middle of the other cieling and it again looks great. I would definitely use and refer certified for any future jobs!
Description of Work: Originaly planned to have 10-12 reccessed lighting fixtures installed in a finished basement. I own a older townhome with two seperate ceiling hieghts and a irregular internal HVAC plenum between joists.

Very well. The electrician, Forrest, arrived on time (we were the first call of the day) and was helpful, professional and thorough - despite the fact that much the work was done in our very (very!) cold garage! He made some suggestions and gave us some very good information during the inspection, so I really felt it was worth it. When it came time to pay the bill, I was a bit confused on the hourly rate as they apparently charge some travel time, which was not relayed to me by the person who scheduled my appointment. In the end, Forrest was kind enough to take off 1/2 hour, which was appreciated.
Description of Work: I took advantage of the Angie's List Deal for a full house electrical inspection for $89 and also had them add/move some light switches/recepticals and run the wiring for three recessed lights that we had already installed ourselves.

In setting up the appointment CET's rep was flexible and quick, arranging an appointment within a few days of my call. The service technician phoned about 20 minutes before arrival to let us know he was coming; very punctual. On arrival he set right to work, checking our electrical panel and testing every socket and switch in the house as well as ground fault interrupters. He was very thorough, including all outdoor electrical outlets and smoke detectors. He marked any place he found a problem and on conclusion of his inspection (about 45 minutes to 1 hour) gave an oral report on findings. In this case he found three plugs that were not grounded; and found three other locations that were not on GFI circuits - but should be. Along the way he also pointed out that certain fixtures in the house were potential fire hazards; recommended replacing smoke alarms which, though functioning, were 14 years old. I also asked about installation of a whole house surge protector and he knowledgeably answered my questions about that, and left an information flyer on it. Note on pricing: I purchased this as an Angie's List "special deal" so the regular price of this service is quite a bit higher (don;'t recall how much more). We we very pleased overall with this service (and hadn't expected to find problems) - we have contracted with CET to have those problems fixed and will report separately on that visit.

The electrician was at my home for at most 20 minutes and only looked at my electrical panel in the basement and two outlets in the kitchen and didn't bother looking at the rest of the house. This was a waste of time, as I had to miss work to be home for this. Although the provider was friendly, I would not do this again--it was a waste of time and money.

I signed up for an Angie's List special to have a surge protector installed for the house. I called Certified Electrical Technologies and got an answering service. They told me a rep would call me back. The next day, Gary left a message on my answering machine (love phone tag). I called back and spoke with Steve and explained the Angie's List special. He took down the reference number off my certificate and asked me to take some pictures of my fuse box and note the make of the box and e-mail them to him. He gave me a time frame of either 8 -12 or 12 -4 for service on any upcoming day. I made the appointment for a week in advance. A few days later in the mail I received a card with the appointment information and number to call if there were any changes. On the day of the appointment, the tech, Rob, called around 8:10 AM to inform me he was 15-20 minutes away. He showed up when expected and promptly went to work. He had a surge protector specifically designed for the make of fuse box I had and was pleasant and professional. He answered all my questions and was finished by 9:00 AM.

The entire experience was excellent, and I highly recommend using CET. I will definitely use CET next time I need an electrician. My biggest projects was installing the 8 recessed lights in our living room. The work performed was excellent and much attention was paid to detail. The electrician was very helpul, considerate, and thorough. The final product looks wonderful. The other projects were a "breeze" to fix for the electrician even though wiring had to be entirely replaced for the outside recessed light.
Description of Work: We did several projects: 1) installed recessed lighting (8 lights) in living room; 2) replaced broken outdoor recessed light; 3) replaced broken dimmer in dining room; and 4) replaced broken ceiling fan cord in offce.

I had Veteran's Day off from work and asked if they could perform the work that day. They said they could come out that day, and the electrician Tim was right on time. He did the work, answered my questions, and was very polite. He gave me a comment card to send back about the work performed, and Lisa from the company sent an e-mail a week later inquiring about the services. They were just amazing, and I would absolutely hire them again.
Description of Work: I wanted to buy the Angie's List Big Deal offer for a whole house surge protector for $175. I knew I didn't have the two required open spaces in my electrical box so I contacted the owner, Gary, and asked if the work could still be performed on my electrical system. He said yes, and it would be an additional $75 to have two breakers switched out for double breakers. I very happily purchased the Big Deal.

From the initial call through a folllow-up call I was impressed with the polite and engaging personality of three different employees. Gary made the appointment, guaranteed a time slot and a 20 minute call-ahead. Allen delivered the service, calling ahead as promised and was efficient in providing the service yet took the time for a pleasant chat. The follow-up call was a complete surprise and I was really impressed that a contractor would go to such lengths to ensure customer satisfaction - I'm simply not accustomed to that! The services provided were of really good quality and the price was more than fair, as part of an Angie's List Big Deal. CET definitely has my future business.

After trying to fix a problem myself and being unable to we decided to give CET a call. I called them yesterday morning, told the receptionist what was wrong. She said that someone would be giving me a call back shortly to ask me some questions. Steve called back a little while later and I explained the issue we were having. He said he would check the schedule and call me back. When he called back he said that Alan (who we had before) was available the next day (Vetrans Day) in the morning 8-12 window. Alan gave me a call this morning and said he was about 20 mins away about 9:00AM. He was spot on with his estimate and was in the house working 20 mins later. He had the problem fixed within a half hour and entertained some general questions I had about future projects and electrical components in general. I've already called and scheduled our next bigger project for next week. Definitely use CET, they know what they are doing, are professional, timely, and the value you get for the work they do can't be beat.
Description of Work: We were experiencing an issue with our 5 month old dishwasher. We noticed that there was water in the bottom of the appliance and that it didn't seem to have any power. After exhausting my limited knowledge of electrical components, I decided to call CET who we had used before. Alan came out today got right down to business and was able to troubleshoot and fix our problem with no additional supplies needed. The dishwasher was up and running in under the first hour. After he had finished he offered me advice on some other projects we were interested in completing.

The appointment scheduling was prompt, polite and smooth. The electrician, Rob, called 20 minutes before arriving and arrived on time. He got to work immediately, worked fast and accurately from one task to the next, and completed all items in two hours. He quickly noticed that a third ceiling fan had a wiring problem rather than a mechanical one - he adjusted the wiring and it works fine. I now have a spare - a good thing. The cost estimate provided over the phone, was actually higher than the amount charged. I called back and scheduled another appointment to supply and wire four smoke detectors and change out a chandelier. THANKS, CET!

I use a home warranty so only had to pay the copay. I had a switch that continually shorted out and the warranty company kept sending the same people out from a different company. Finally, after refusing to use the same company they sent me a representative from Certified Electrical Technologies. He was able to fix the issue, which was more than just a switch replacement, and explain why a switch replacement would not work. I also had him look at all the other work that was done by the other incompetent company and fixed the rest of their work as well, even though it was not part of the initial service requested.

We were very pleased with both visits. On the most recent visit, we had a problem with the circuit breaker flipping causing the kitchen lights and appliances to go off. Our home warranty company sent a different electrician out, and he couldn't figure out what was causing the problem. Certified Electrical came out, determined that the problem was with the outside light fixture and replaced it. Certified Electrical was very honest and straightforward, and when the technician called to schedule the appointment, he was very honest and described what was covered and not covered by our warranty. Because we suspected it might be due to the outdoor light, he suggested we purchase a light fixture from Home Depot in advance to save money. It was the outdoor light, which he replaced quickly. We haven't had a problem since. We were very pleased with the quick response to our request for help and the honesty. We will definitely use Certified Electrical in the future for our electrical needs.

Gary's company did a "heavy up" on my electrical panel at my 56 year of 1100 sq ft home. He gave me alternatives to work within my budget and electrical usage. He explained (and handled) the appointment process with PG county and Pecpo for inspection and final hook up of a new electric meter. The entire experience was professional throughout and everyone is quite personable, to boot. I have tried every possible combination of appliance use imaginable and everything has found a new electrical youthfulness! Things I thought were dying have found new life. I am quite satisfied with the work and will use them again if the need arises.
Description of Work: After being diagnosed by Pepco with a "neutral" problem at my electrical panel I contacted Certified from Angie's List. All of my motor drive appliances were beginning to act like they were giving out and not having enough "juice". After speaking to 2 other contractors I chose Gary's company at Certified to do the work. His low key and informative style over the heavy handed high pressure of one and the balking over questions of licensure of another sealed the deal for me.
