Before you have any basement waterproofing done, make sure Jay from Basement Technologies comes and checks out your situation! My basement had a small amount of water. I set up three estimates, all with companies highly rated on angieslist. The first company came and, after inspecting inside and outside the house, said the solution was to install an interior perimeter drain, new sump pump and pit, and more. The price range was $9-12K. The inspector showed me a PowerPoint slideshow, including scary pictures ("I'm not trying to scare you, but...") explaining why I needed his solution. My second estimate was from Basement Technologies. Jay came and quickly figured out that the problem was a plumbing one, not a waterproofing one--the main shut-off valve to the house was leaking! The first company didn't notice that, nor did they even check that possibility. Had I gone with their "solution," I would have been out thousands of dollars and still had water in my basement. I have learned that some companies send out salesmen, rather than expert technical people. (From now on, a PowerPoint slide show is going to be a red flag for me!) Jay was an expert (said he'd been doing actual waterproofing of basements since the age of 15) and didn't waste my time with a sales pitch. I have also learned that you still need to keep your eyes open, even with a company getting all A's on angieslist. I'm sure the first company is reputable, professional and would have done a good job of installing the drain. It just wouldn't have been necessary! Next time I hire anyone to work on my home, I am going to ask about the background of the person coming to do the estimate. Have they worked in the field? For how long, etc. One slightly negative thing about Basement Technologies: the first fellow I spoke with on the phone when I set up the appointment for an estimate turned me off a bit because he already seemed a bit pushy. Don't let that stop you! Jay was not at all pushy, just very informative, honest and extremely helpful. If I ever have any more water in my basement, I will call Jay.

We thank you for the good review. We are sorry that you believe we did not offer options for your problem. Our company is in the business of offering solutions that come with a lifetime warranty. We would not recommend another option that may not work. After looking at and diagnosing your problem. This repair was the only repair our company would have offered . Since the repair was completed back in July we have had a significant amount of rainfall. We have not received any phone calls from this or any other crack repairs that we have performed. We maintain our high level of success in repairing problems the right way the first time. Thank you again for the review.

I have to admit, I was a skeptic, but Jay convinced me that his way was the right way. Jay came by, not once, but twice, to try to figure out where water was very intermittently entering our basement. After spending at least an hour at our house, and twenty minutes waiting for the results of running a hose near the suspected access point, Jay was able to show me exactly where the problem was in real time. He also took the time to explain to me, at no charge, how to remedy the problem myself (with the help of a handyman), writing down the exact products to use and responding. to follow up questions I had by e-mail. We all know how rare this type of dedication and professionalism is. I wouldn't hesitate to use Jay and Basement Technologies in the future, and wholeheartedly recommend them.

Thank you for the great review. Yes this was a tricky one. Sometimes without being able to move the carpet or cut the drywall it is hard to diagnose. Lucky for us you had the access panel for the water line. After everyone else diagnosed this problem as being a leaky water line coming through the foundation. We actually found out the problem was simply a landscaping issue. Sometimes when a house has a brick facing. Customers decide to take the landscaping up a little to high. When the landscaping is higher than the area where the wood framing meets the top of the concrete foundation. Water will work its way through the mortar joints and travel along the top of the wall . Then when it shows up on the floor it gives the impression that the water must be coming up from the floor. This is why when we come out to look at a foundation we want to properly diagnose what is going on . This way we do not just sell you based on a theory of what may be happening. Thank you again for the great review. Hopefully the landscapers took care of things for you

I am re-reviewing Basement Technologies as I want to share my experience with this amazing company. After Jay's initial visit and installation of my new sump pump which he did free of charge, I still had water leaking from the front of the house. He returned immediately and did a hose test pouring water down the front of my house. He found a leak and where water had been pooling from the outside of the foundation along a sewage pipe that was never sealed properly. He sealed it up temporarily and we scheduled a crew to come out and repair. He also tested my french drain to insure it was working properly and that I did not need to repair that as every other company that investigated said I needed new ones dug. He also suggested getting a new drain by my basement door, as I had water leak in through the door because the drain did not work fast enough. He scheduled his crew to come on July 4th!!! They were in at 8 and left by Noon, repairing the Front and back leaks. We recently had a large rainfall of about 4 inches in as little as an hour. The back drain worked perfectly, but I still had water coming in from the front of the house. I emailed Jay and he set an appointment immediately. It was coming from another crack slightly to the side of the initial repair. They 2 man crew came this morning a repaired that crack. They did not charge me for that repair. How is this possible. I sure hope we have finally licked my basement woes. If you a reading this, look no further for a more honest and forthright company you will never find in the Waterproofing business. Thanks Jay and team.

Thank you for the great review. In the summer months sometimes people will start to see mold with no signs of water intrusion. If you have a humid basement with no air ducts or AC unit in the basement. Ten the basement has no way of recycling that humid air. This then starts to sit on the drywall and form mold. You want to always have a dehumidifier in the basement for those summer months. If there is no conditioned air in the basement then you want to look into getting a supply line and return or a air conditioner. Thanks again .

We contact Basement Technologies through Angies List and scheduled an appraisal of our water infiltration problem in the basement. Jay came on schedule, but per his request several days after we had spoken with and received assessments from a half-dozen other companies. The other "salemen" were true to form, immediatley disregarding our own perspective on what caused the infrequent flooding, telling us that there was no simple solution that they could recommend and would only undertake the repair per their diagnosis of the problem. They claimed we needed to dig up the basement, install one or more additional sump pumps and dig new trenches to them, all at a cost around $10,000. A Servicemaster employee (whose comapny did not do any of this type of work and so had no vested interest in his comments, other than candor) was skeptical of what we were being "sold." Jay then arrived, took one look at the area of infiltration and immeditely diagnosed it as an easy repair costing about $300 and that was all that was necessary, saying that the present sump pump and channels appeared to be doing their job well and all that was causing this was a window well that needed to be extened further into the ground and caulked. He recommended that we merely hire a handyman to do it for Basement Technolgies only did larger repairs. His advice was free, his recommendation spot on with our own logical assessment, and he totally unbiased and not driven to just create more and expensive business for his company. Simply put, he was honest to a fault and totally credible with all the experience he brought to his opinion. I would totally put my faith in Jay and the company to honestly diagnose and recommend only that which was needed to fix a problem, as opposed to most all of the others who seemed destine to scare us into expensive, but unnecessary, contract work for them. (Prologue: One additional large basement waterproofing contractor came in after and started the same flim flam. I let him go on and then challenged every recommendation, pointing out what Jay had said should work. He eventually admitted that, "upon further reflection," Jay was most likely correct.)

Thank you for the great review. This one is funny. We run into this almost every day. The traditional salesmen who is sent out by his company to just sell sell sell. But where is the actual foundation experts. The guys who truly want to find the problem. I love my job and everyday I wake up I'm looking for that new challenge. The foundation that tries to stump my expertise. When someone comes to your house to sell you a waterproofing system. You want that someone to be able to find out what is causing the problem . Not someone who is there to sell you the same thing he sold the last three guys. Finding the problem and giving solutions to that problem is what I do. If that solution is a DIY solution then great I just saved someone thousands of dollars. I like to make my living the honest way . Thanks again

I purchased an Angie's Big Deal for this service and it went pretty good. The were quick and took an aggressive approach so they were done in one day. In the beginning they had estimated that it would take two days. Their pricing was fair. I had one minor issue with them. It turns out they were supposed to pull the permits for this work, but they didn't.

10 out of 10 in my book. Jay, as a professional, is unbeatable. I would hire him any day. I had several other contractors come to my house to give me an estimate of what's going on in my basement. "You need a French Drain-$3750", or "We have to remove the drywall and excavate all the tile." Jay actually looked at the problem. He then spent about 20 minutes instructiong me how to fix the problem myself. He made no money himself; he did this just because he is an honest professional. He could have easily told me I needed to install this and fix that, but he didn't and you don't find that with many business people today.

I could have spent (wasted) over $20,000 if I'd listened to the advice of all the other companies that have come to assess why I had signs of moisture at the bottom of baseboards in my finished basement. Other suggested, without even looking behind much drywall, that we replace the sump pump and add a second pump, relay the drainage system under the basement floor, dig out the exterior foundation, expand the dainage system in the yard, etc. None of this made sense so I continued investigating myself, pulling off more drywall to see if I could find a leak. Jay looked at the entire basement, examined the area where I'd removed drywall, examined other spots on the baseboards I pointed out, checked out the sump pump and the yard, and said we had a humidity problem, not a water problem. He suggested a number of DIY fixes, which will cost a few hundred bucks if I do them all. We are waiting thru the rest of the rainy season to make sure nothing leaks and then will do as Jay suggested (Dry Lock paint, new dehumidifier) before replacing drywall and baseboards. Calling Basement Technologies saved me from making costly and unnecessary repairs for a minor problem. Thank you Jay!

This company was a pleasure to work with. Of all the companies we interviewed for the work Jay and his crew were the only ones who figured out what the problem was and why water was coming into our basement. When they initially started the work they encountered some unknown issues with the foundation of our home. No way they would have known during the estimating process unless they completely ripped apart our basement wall and drywall. They immediately came to me with solutions and worked with me on the price to re-assess the work, have it verified by a structural engineer, and scheduled a time to come back to complete the job since it ended up being more than anyone thought it would be. I have to say that if we used another company they probably would have tried to take advantage of me but Basement Technologies did not. They are a solid company and their crew that did the work were hard working and very pleasant. The end product is very well done and my basement is in better shape than its probably every been in. I have no doubt that we won't have a water issue in the house again. And it we do I know they will stand behind their work, which is a nice reassurance. Jay and his crew are highly recommended.

WORTH YOUR TIME TO READ AND MORE IMPORTANTLY CAN SAVE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! Basement Technologies was the 4th waterproofing company to come out to the property. What made Jay different from the rest was (1) He wanted to find the problem, (2) He found the problem, (3) He came prepared to work using modern technology tools as opposed to the other 3 companies that came with a laptop presentation and sales pitch. All 3 waterproofing companies that came with the exception of Basement Technologies, wanted to tear up my newly installed bathroom floor, add a second sump pump even when they were not certain where the water penetration was coming from. Highest quote was in excess of $13,000. With Jay he started by looking at the outside grading of the property. Then he came inside to do an interior inspection and stated he needs to know what is going on behind one of the foundation walls. I agreed to allow him to cut some drywall holes so he could place a camera scope to actually visualize the problem. He suggested to run a garden hose outside the house to see if water was entering from a suspicious area he was viewing. Immediately he found the leak that was a hole in the foundation wall and it was very high up and water was running down the foundation wall to the inside. At this point he felt it was something I could fix on my own. He told me the supplies I needed to purchase, (Home Depot total cost $60.00) and gave instructions on how to repair the foundation. Jay had spent more than 2 hours diagnosing the problem and when I offered to pay him for his time and expertise, he refused. Does it get any more honest than that, rare thing these days but it is still out there. Do your homework or benefit from my experience and call Jay at Basement Technologies.

Initial request was for the crew to waterproof an existing, exterior, below-grade penetration of the foundation wall where pipes for a ground source heat pump were previously installed. Some interior leaking had been occurring at this location in heavy rain storms. After review the crew recommended that a sump pump be installed in the basement at the outside wall where there had been leaking. We agreed with the recommendation and the work was done. Since then leakage in the basement has almost disappeared. Small amounts of water can still come through the at the pipe penetrations during very heavy rains but is captured at the wall by the sump pump system.

Jay arrived on time to assess the water issues in our basement. He was super knowledgeable and professional and walked us through all of the steps involved. He even whipped out his iPad to show us a video! Due to the downgrade on the outside of our house, we're in need of the full solution - a french drain around the perimeter of the basement along with a sump pump. This solution was right on target with what other contractors had recommended, even though we were hoping Jay would come up with some miraculous easy fix and prove them all wrong! As far as the cost goes, it seemed honest and fair, although we haven't had the opportunity to price out these services with other companies. We decided to hold off on waterproofing until next year, but we will definitely reach back out to Jay when the time comes. He has all of our info on file and agreed to honor the estimate, as well as the Angie's List deal, which was awesome! We would definitely recommend Basement Technologies to anyone dealing with a dark and damp basement.

Basement Technologies is an excellent company to deal with. The salesperson, Jay Bengston, gave a detailed description of the work required, the history of the company, and explained that there will be a lifetime warranty after the work is performed. I was not required to put a deposit down prior to the work performed which impressed me as well. Payment was after the job was complete and I was satisfied. The crew arrived on time, immediately began work. They worked extremely well as a team, very efficiently not missing anything. Very professional job. All of the guys were all very friendly, polite, and respectful. I could not be happier with the results.

They confirmed the appointment the night before and arrived a little early. They called to ask if it was OK to come early. Professional approach to listening to the problem and examining the areas in question. Also checked the sump pump pit to ensure that it was deep enough and working. After reviewing everything and listening that my problem was limited to leaking during heavy downpours, they recommended that I install window well covers as a first step. This might solve the problem and not require extensive and expensive work. I was pleased that there was no hard pressure sales and am impressed that they offered a simple solution that cost them nothing. Very pleased with my interaction with them and would call again if using the window well covers does not resolve the problem.

Thank you for the great review. I hope everything is getting back in order in the basement. It was a little tough working around that furnace but everything should work just fine. I still can not believe the other company who waterproofed the rear of the house did not even worry about draining the water to a sump pump. You can not just put drain pipes under the floor and not give them a place to collect the water. Then discharge it. You are in good hands now that things are completed properly. We thank you for choosing us to complete this project

Jay gave me the estimate on Saturday and his team came on Tuesday to do the repair. I'm not exactly sure of the terminology to explain what they did but they opened the floor below the crack, filled it with gravel for drainage, re-cemented it, sealed the crack and replaced a section of wood. In addition to re-taping the insulation at the site of the repair, they also re-taped the insulation in 3 other areas of the basement (from previous estimates) that left the insulation covering split open and the insulation exposed and unsightly. The complete job was done quickly and efficiently. It has been a month since the work was completed and although there have been several hard rains during that time period, the basement has remained dry. Needless to say, we are very pleased with the work and would definitely recommend Basement Technologies.
Description of Work: During hard rains there was a small leak in the basement for almost 2 years. It was around the sump pump and I was able to place a bent baking tin under the insulation at the leak to divert the water into the sump pump. I feared the cost of repairs but finally bit the bulltet and called Basement Technologies after reading reviews on Angie's List. Jay Bengtson came out to assess the problem and found a crack in the foundation. He asked if we had other estimates and I told him I wasn't interested in other estimates (I've had estimates in the past). He explained why they like to be the last estimate but gave me the estimate I requested along with a transferable, lifetime warranty on the work.

main job would not take his team of 4 as long as they anticipated, and they were willing to do that section at no extra cost. So, a 4 foot section of the water trek system was installed, and tied into the main room, through an opening in the concrete divider wall. -- They arrived right on schedule, 7:00 am in the morning, and completed the job to my satisfaction, exceeding the terms of the contract. The estimator, Chris' older brother, Jay, had already given me the Angies List Deal of 20% off. I couldn't be happier. -- If persons reading this are looking for some do's and don'ts, I recommend that you choose companies with the high ratings that companies like Basement Technologies have. Also, in between signing the contract and the day of installation, move items away from the walls, or out of the room. My two sons and I worked several days, removed old (as in more than 50 years) lumber shelving, and carried storage containers into the other room. Our neighbor even came over to help out. It turned out to be a good way to sort clutter from items, such as tools, that we need.. We then hauled much of that to the county land fill. This made the job much easier for the workers, and resulted, I believe, in our getting the additional segment of the water trek system in our second basement room. -- This job went smoothly,, and everything was cleaned up, and completed in 4 hours.
Description of Work: Basement Technologies installed a water trek system along 3 walls of the main basement room (where utilities;furnace;gas water heater, electric panel are located). They also installed a vinyl wall plate along the wall above the water trek system ( french drain), drilled holes in all cores of the block wall and installed a 1/2 hp sump pump. In addition, where several years of flooding had damaged parts of the concrete floor, they cleaned the areas and patched them with concrete so they are tile ready, and attached the basement dehumidifier to the sump pump pit. I had an additional bid of $1,500 if they had to return to install a connection to the system from an adjoining basement room, which, unlike the main room, only gets a small bit of water during extremely heavy rains. The team leader, Chris, unexpectedly offered to do the four foot section of that room, where water comes in, under those heavy rain conditions. He said that the

I had water leaking in from the front of my basement for a couple of years. I was never able to find the cause of the leak. I had several companies come out and try and find the problem but no one ever really looked, they simply glanced around and handed me and estimate to jack hammer around the perimeter of my basement to the tune of $11,000.00. I finally got very frustrated after the last round of storms and called Basement Technologies who set me up with an appointment right away with their technician, Jay. I cannot tell you what a difference Basement Tech made. They actually looked around the entire house to inspect for cracks.(Jay could not find any). Jay cut away some drywall in my finished basement and put a camera scope into the wall. He found damp insulation on the floor but not on the walls. He then looked into the sump pump and pointed out that the water level was higher than it should be and perhaps we should change out the pump before pulling the trigger on installing a new drainage system. I happened to have a brand new pump sitting right there that was a top of the line pump. I informed Jay the only reason it was not installed it that the instruction read a little too complicated for me. He installed the pump in about 5 minutes and the water level immediately went down. Now it is a wait and see, if this will do the job but at least he took action and then sent me a quote should further work be needed and it was extremely reasonable and only would require jack hammering a portion of the basement. He was honest, forthright and generous as he did not charge me for installing the sump pump. If water returns, I have him on speed dial. This company rocks!

Thank you for the great review. Way to often we run into this . Companies like to send out a salesmen to sell you basement waterproofing work. But they do not want to get there hands dirty doing the leg work and actually diagnosing the problem. Inspecting the foundation, finding the leak source. This happens because they do not have the training or experience to find these problems. They merely have the ability to talk the talk and get signatures. When you call someone out to your house are you calling to have a salesmen sell you something or are you calling to have an expert find the problem and develop a solution to fix that problem. I have over 20 years of experience and have waterproofed over 8000 homes with my own hands. Some of my customers refer to me as the Sherlock Holmes of water. I look for the clues and seek out there point of entry. We built this company on honesty and will remain that way always. You will see this in most of the reviews you will read on here. Again I thank you for your great review. Jay

His team showed up early, and finished quickly (one hour--a small leak, as I said). They opened the floor below the crack, "sealed" it with vinyl wall flashing over wall from top to bottom, filled the hole with gravel, and poured concrete over hole. This was just done today, so I can't speak to the long term viability. However, they did give a transferable lifetime warrenty. My only wish after is that we covered the stuff I had stored near there. A very thin layer of dust coats the boxes etc. Again, not a big deal and very local to the immediate room he was doing work in.
Description of Work: I've had an ongoing leak, small, in my basement unfinished laundry room due to a horizontal crack due to the original builder not setting the concrete properly. Not a big problem, but landscaping, gutter cleaning etc couldn't prevent water seeping given the strong rains we've had lately. Jay asked for pictures and came out to the house to diagnose the problem. His solution was far more economical than other quotes by contractors I won't name, but also had A grades by Angie's List! He suggested drilling below the floor to allow the water to run off in the drainage system below the house, then cover it with wall flashing. He was so certain this would work that he offered a lifetime warrenty, transferable to future owners!
