Basement Innovations Waterproofing

We had found that a previous contractor who finished our basement did not satisfy the "waterproofing" portion of his contract. Water had clearly been coming in through the walls for quite some time. We had three contractors bid for the job. The guy at Basement Technologies gave us the hard sell and insisted on being the last to see the job, which I thought was odd, but agreed to. The first two contractors bid approximately $5-6K for the job, which blew our mind. Two walls were to be waterproofed, along with a floor drainage system. Totaling 18 feet. BT bid $2900 for the job and actually seemed the least sales-y, so they got the job. (One guy from another company actually said to me, "Hey, its only money, right?" And then laughed.) Their earliest availability was in five days, which was fine. Three guys came and did the job and were done in five hours, which was fantastic. They were courteous and professional. They promised that I would never need to contact them again, which I love.

Jay was the second company I had to come out and look at some water leaking in my basement. It is saturated the carpet so I first called my plumber who could not find a plumbing leak. Next I called a competitor to come out and check the foundation. This company tried to sell me a complete indoor drainage system at the tune of over $10k. Jay first drilled a hole in the floor and found that the dirt under the floor was dry and that the foundation was not the issue. After I authorized him to make bigger holes in the wall, we found that the shower was leaking in an unusual spot. Jay didn't charge me anything for the service call. He was outstanding and I would recommend Basement Technologies to everyone.

It turned out great, they came out and gave me a quote and I was thinking about using them to do the basement and then I got delayed with this furnace replacement and air conditioner replacement thing, again, you know, I picked them because they were so highly rated, prompt service, the quote is good for a year so if I can afford to do that within the next year, I might hire them back to do the work on that. I just got the quote from them and haven't been able to act on that. It was just an estimate at this point.

After researching multiple companies on Angieslist we selected three for quotes. I will not review the other two companies because they did not provide us services. I will say that one company representative provided us with a sales pitch reminiscent of someone trying to sell insurance. He wanted to sell me products that were extraneous and made his quote $1000 above the other two plus he was over an hour late. After receiving all three proposals we went with Basement Technologies because of the Angieslist deal they had going on in addition to all the positive reviews. Jay from Basement Technologies showed up on time and provided us with a no nonsense proposal of work. He showed us photos from previous job sites and provided options for completing the job efficiently while maintaining the integrity of the finished basement. He answered all of our questions and ameliorated a number of concerns regarding future drainage issues. He was even able to schedule the work within our time frame. This was important because my wife was pregnant, it was during the holidays, and I needed time to refinish the basement once the job was complete. Jay's crew arrived promptly at 0830 and began work immediately. Chris was the foreman of a three person crew. By the time I greeted him and made coffee his crew was nearly done with demolition. Since this was a finished basement they took care to cut the drywall at exactly four feet from the floor in order for me to install new 4'x8' sheets without making extraneous cuts or buying excess materials, in turn saving me money. The basement Technology crew moved efficiently and worked together to get the job done. The only minor issue I had was that I had to ask them to cover my furniture and seal the vents which they did not do before starting work. Again this was a minor issue because as soon as I mentioned it they took care of it quickly. While completing the job Chris asked me where I wanted the drain off from the sub-pump to be sent. After discussing with him possible solutions we went with one that was cosmetically better for me, but more costly for him. Without hesitation he accepted this solution which required drilling through my exterior wall and a retaining wall to properly disguise the new drainage system. He was able to drill a hole into the retaining that looked uniform with the ones already there. Did I mention he did not charge me extra for this added work? Jay stopped by midday to check on the progress. He assured me the work would get completed in a day and left without issue. Basement Technologies provided a service that went above and beyond the quote they provided. They took the time to explain the process and worked with me to find a better solution. At the end of the day they provided me with a dry basement that I was able to refinish with minimal supplies, time and effort. Since there installation we have had a very wet winter and I have had a dry basement. The musty smell is gone and we are extremely happy with there work. I would highly recommend Basement Technologies for any future basement water issues.

Jay recommended some homeowner fixes before investing in more expensive solutions. He asked us to keep him posted and to call back with any results, and provided a firm estimate if our solutions did not work.

Jay came out, took measurements, explained the process very thoroughly using images of previous jobs. Having never had this done before I found it helpful in understanding the full scope. I liked his candidness and patience with my questions. On the day of the install, his brother Chris brought his team of seven with him. Basement Technologies was done in a day. They were polite, professional, left the whole place neat and removed all unwanted debris. I hopefully will not need them again and would recommend them to a friend.

They did a good job and I would recommend them to anyone. They were efficient and completed the work in a clean and timely fashion. We have not had any problems since.

They were prompt, and finished a little ahead of schedule. They didn't reassemble the storage shelves, but they had said they might not be able to do that. The real test of how good they are will come when another hurricane comes through. If the basement stays dry I'll be happy. If not, I'll call them back.

It went well. I was contacted immediately and after inspection of the water damage I was told that the company could not perform the work. The company was very up front with what could be done and that they did not perform that type of work. They informed me that they would provide any information on their findings to any other company I contact.

Basement Technologies was recommended to me by a neighbor who had experienced severe water problems in the lower level of his town home which Basement Technologies helped to resolve. I have had water coming into my lower level from an undetermined source for the past year. I contacted Basement Technologies and arranged for a mutual time to meet. After seeing the wet spot in the one corner, the technician, Jay, requested permission to cut a small hole in the wall in the vicinity of the wetness. He not only used a flash light to look in side the wall, but also felt around with his hands. He eventually cut a larger section from the wall after determining the level from which the wetness was originating. It turned out to be an unsealed hole from which an underground telephone wire came into wall from the lower level foundation. Because it was raining the day of the appointment, we were able to see the water coming in from that unsealed hole. Jay advised me as to what needed to be done - a simple repair job. Until I can get someone in to patch the hole, Jay performed a small service to help direct the water to my sump pump drain He did not charge me for his time in locating this problem or for his recommendations. Though it did not take very long - about 15 minutes - Jay was very methodical and careful in his work. I was impressed and would highly recommend Basement Technologies to others.

We experienced standing water in our basement and in searching for the source, found that a corner with a french drain was showing flaking paint on the concrete blocks and undrained water. We called Basement Technologies based on the reviews on Angie's List. Before the representative arrived, we discovered that one of our sump pumps was intermittently shorting out. Once that was replaced the standing water on the basement floor and in the french drain were resolved but we continued to worry about the damp wall above the french drain and the flaking paint. Basement Technologies sent a very professional representative to our home to review our concerns. He confirmed that the french drain was working properly and that the standing water was definitely due to the malfunctioning sump pump. He also provided some recommendations for do-it-yourself updates to the corner area! I was so impressed with the suggestions as I was expecting an estimate for foundation and waterproofing work for $3000 to $5000! I would recommend the professionals at Basement Technologies for anyone that has waterproofing or other Basement concerns in their home. They are a refreshingly honest organization that has customer service and their customers' best interest as their primary business principle! I will definitely use this company in the future if we ever experience issues with our basement in the future!

These guys are fantastic. We had water coming into our basement through a well window. I called Basement Technologies and spoke at length with Jay on the phone about the problem. He explained what he thought the cause of the problem was, but said that to be sure he would want to do a cost-free inspection at our house. He came over, confirmed the source of the problem, and proposed different solutions. He candidly said that although his company could install a drainage system in our home, that a simpler and less expensive solution would be simply to fabricate a cover for the well, which a handyman could do. I was impressed by his honesty -- he could easily have tried to push us to buy the drainage system, instead -- and his knowledge of waterproofing issues. And then, when I had some follow up questions about the fabricated piece, he gladly answered them, even though of course we would be hiring a handyman to do it. In short, I was extremely pleased with Basement Technologies (and Jay in particular), and if we end up needing the drainage system, I will happily have BT install it.

Basement Technologies was always on time and completed the job in one long day, when other companies said it would take multiple days and cost significantly more. The consultation wasn't pressured which I appreciated and they sent someone who actually knew what he was talking about from work experience, not a salesman. We used a Big Deal in which we got 25% off the total price and the work performed is warrantied for the life of the structure. The sump pump has a limited manufacturers warranty though since Basement Technologies didn't build that themselves obviously and can't guarantee that. The day of the work, the crew showed up right on time and got started. They took care of moving things out of the way down in the basement and covering them with plastic so they wouldn't get dust all over them. The drainage pipes along each basement wall was drilled up through the concrete and removed along with the sump pump and old inefficient drain outside the basement door. They then laid new drainage pipes and installed a new sump pump and drain. All the old pipes, pump, drain and debris was removed and disposed of by the crew. They even offered and moved a shed that was up against my house which we had been meaning to move to the back of the yard. Overall it was a great experience and the basement looks wonderful. It has been about 6 months now and even with many great rainfalls there has been no flooding.

Project lead Chris explained everything and the team was respectful and courteous in our home. Worked carefully in finished basement to minimize impact to dry wall saving us cost of dry wall work. Re-installed ELFA bookshelves at our request. Did not use subs picked up on way to job as some companies do. Great job all around.

Our basement is poured concrete, typical of construction of newer homes (ours was built in 1999). A crack running from floor to ceiling in one corner of the basement developed sometime shortly after construction. At that time a common fix done apparently by the builder was to inject in an epoxy sealer into the crack. This was done before we purchased the house in 2002, and was covered by insulation (so we did not even know of the repair). About five years ago we began to get water into the basement from the crack, since the epoxy was no longer sealing it effectively. Over time it continued to get worse. We had Jay from Basement Technologies come out and inspect the problem. He ran water from the outside of the house and verified the location of the leak/crack. His recommendation was to open up a area of the basement floor in the corner next to the leak and establish a drain for future water coming in. The work was done promptly and we've since had a significant rain. The fix worked as expected and we no longer have any water in that area. Jay advised against the epoxy crack filler for just the reason we experienced. It is not permanent and eventually fails.

This was good experience. Each of the guys that made it out or did the estimating were top notch. I was impressed with their attention to detail and their honest approach to the whole job. I got a great deal using an Angie's list coupon too. I am very thankful for their hard work. Of special note was their willingness to go above and beyond what was originally thought to be needed. The estimate included work on a six foot section of the flooring. When the day of the work came, the installers determined that eight feet were needed. Instead of raising the price, they simply added the extra two feet after discussing it with their managers. This was a huge plus in my book. They stuck with their promised price and delivered on a quality job. I don't like terrible weather too much, but I am looking forward to a nice dry home thanks to their hard work!

Crew arrived on time and got to work immediately. Crew members were professional and shared information as they worked - a thorough explanation of their design and installation. Crew took time to cover large areas with plastic to minimize dust, and clean-up afterward was very good. I recommend Basement Technologies highly and without reservation.
