Exin Solutions, Inc. is locally owned and operated construction business, helping home owners find cost-effective solutions to improve and maintain the exteriors and interiors of their homes.
We have been in the home improvement industry for the past twenty five years working with home owners to satisfy their design and contracting needs.
Worst home improvement project we've experienced. After 3+ months of work, averaging less than 2 days per week of actual work throughout, our 150 sq ft kitchen is nowhere near done. Permits never pulled! Fingers crossed I guess...? Crews routinely trashed the place. Electrical work makes no sense to my EE husband. (Be warned, the electrician is Exin's brother.) Last check was cut with many promises made, a week went by with only 1 day of work -- a sloppy paint job (windows painted shut! paint and scratches on brand new unused fixtures! paint on uninvolved hardwood floors!) Our new appliances are 6 weeks old and still not hooked up. Our sink stunk so much (who was dumping organic matter in the sink?!) that my husband finally had to hook-up the disposal himself. Our basement is locked shut because they broke the key off in the lock, and didn't bother telling us. We finally noticed most work was increasingly being scheduled for evenings and weekends, which meant not only was our kitchen unavailable, we were inconvenienced during off hours. After another week of complaints, no response other another promise of weekend work, AND NO ACTUAL WORK, we had to say don't come back until you speak to us about all these problems. No reply. Unfortunately, our suggestion of legal action has also resulted in no response. We weren't AL members when we hired him, our bad! Now we see he has such terrible reviews. And oh, by the way, for what it's worth his dog, who accompanies him to the worksite, is not house-broken...

Description of Work: Gave deposit for 2 bathroom remodels. |Tile person did such a bad job and he was negligent in dealing with problem that I fired him and had someone else do the job. He agreed on a pitiful $5000 refund and paid me $1000 and no word from him. Stay clear of Exin and Helping hands.
Description of Work: My kitchen remodel was a dreadful experience. I am thankful I was able to find a contractor who was able to correct the problems. The cost of these corrections, taking the kitchen apart and rebuilding it, amounted to more than $13,000. The major problems are listed below. | In spite of the requirement in the contract to "obtain all county permits", no permits were pulled for either electric or plumbing work done. Mr Johnson insists that no permits were needed, but when I asked county inspectors to look at the work, I was given citations on both. The main electric panel box was in the kitchen which is no longer allowed by county code. There should be 3' of clearance around the panel box for working space, but cabinets and countertop obstructed this. New copper wire was connected to existing aluminum wiring in the house with the incorrect wire nuts. County requires two separate circuits above the counter to avoid overload. There was only one. Code requires that all outlets in the kitchen above the counter to be GFI protected. Some were not. The disposal should have its own circuit, but the cabinet lights were on the same circuit. The lights were wired with what appeared to be speaker wire. It was draped through the interior of the cabinets. The new oven had the incorrect size circuit breaker. In order to make the necessary corrections to meet county code, the cabinets had to be removed and the wallboard taken down. |The plumbing problems included reversing the hot and cold faucets in the sink and hooking up the dishwasher so that if the sink were ever stopped up, the water would drain into the dishwasher. Single stop-double supply valves used on hot and cold under the sink. |I complained that the cabinets were crooked. It was found that the new bulkhead was not level. I complained that the cabinets were too high, 20.5 inches above the counter rather than the standard 18. Since the bulkhead had to be replaced, the cabinets were lowered to the appropriate height. One cabinet had to be replaced to accommodate the lowered bulkhead over the refrigerator. One cabinet had been measured wrong so it was jammed so tightly against the freezer that the freezer could not be leveled. It was replaced. The space for the base cabinets was measured incorrectly. A portion of the wall was cut out to accommodate the dishwasher. A piece of wood was nailed up to cover the area where the wallboard had been removed. There was no way to correct this without removing one wall of base cabinets and putting the granite countertop at risk. The new contractor did the best he could to improve the appearance. The new oven was installed without attaching it to the cabinets. The convection fan made dreadful noises until the new contractor made the attachment. We found the cover for the base of the oven on the floor in the garage. |The new floor buckled badly. The new contractor took up the entire floor and re-laid it. |The job was started in August of 2013. The last week in November was the last time I saw Mr Johnson. Each e-mail I sent was answered that he was waiting for parts. On January 6, he offered to come to install the parts. I refused because there were so many problems other than the missing parts. Three contractors were unwilling to fix my kitchen because there were so many problems. One suggested that I trash the whole thing and start over. Fortunately, I found one who offered some creative solutions and did a great job of saving my kitchen. Unless more problems pop up, my kitchen is complete, a year after the start of the project. |

We had 2 AC's installed by them, a 3 ton and 2 ton AC. After more than 1 year, it was finally determined that their company had installed not only the wrong size AC's (too small for our house), but also, had SWITCHED the 2 AC's. All along, the new AC's they had installed just did not do a sufficient job. On a warm day when outside temps were >85 deg, the AC's never cooled our home below 81 deg, no matter how long we had it on. This company recommended installing new vents, new returns, etc. Finally, after almost 1 year of trying different things, I eventually learned that I should have a load calculation done, which is, based on the size on our home, number of windows, direction of sun, etc, what size AC's would be able to cool our home. I hired a different company to do this. After their report, they determined that we actually needed a 4 ton and 3 ton AC! Not only that, they determined that the AC's that had been installed, had been installed on the WRONG sides of the house: the 3 ton AC (larger AC) was installed on the side of the house that needed the 2 ton, while the 2 ton AC (smaller AC) had been installed on the side that needed the 3 ton. After explaining this report to this company, they came, and switched only the condensers, the outside units. But they did not switch the inside parts- the air handlers, mainly because that was a major job and expensive to do. But I reasoned to the owner- it was you guys who first installed the AC's on the wrong sides. You guys should do the right thing and switch the air handlers too- and give us what we paid for, properly installed 3 ton and 2 ton AC's. But after requesting this, he came back to me and said he would not be willing to switch the air handlers (mainly because it would cost his company a lot), and told me, good luck. He is just an incredible human being. Simply irresponsible and totally unethical. The owner gives a convoluted reason for what happened. Bottom line is, I have 2 wrong size AC's, hooked up to the wrong air handlers, and they refuse to do anything. They feel like it is no longer their responsibility! I have never dealt with people like them. Stay away from this company. They do not keep their word and are very difficult to contact. You will be frustrated beyond reason. Go elsewhere. There are plenty of other decent companies.
Description of Work: In addition to other services, this company installed two new high velocity AC's- condensers and Space-pak air handlers.

Exin is great! Mike and Steve are both very professional and also helped us figure out some of the things we wanted done, we were particularly impressed with the custom shelves in the basement, laundry room and garage. They did many little jobs while the painting and other large jobs were being done. The painting was excellent as was the custom shelf work and repairs. The cost of the additional job of fixing and staining the deck was less than other options since we had them do several jobs at the same time. We were able to have them haul out lots of junk and some large items for disposal or donation to charity. They were willing to do little jobs as well as big and we were able to get lots of things accomplished around the house. They also worked with another company - Friends and Family Flooring - to get our upstairs re-carpeted and install hardwood floors in three rooms on the main floor. Working with Exin solutions on our house was like working with friends! Would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Interior painting of entire house, installed shelves in laundry room, garage and basement. Installed window treatments. Fixed, stained, waterproofed deck. Hauled junk and numerous other small jobs, including fixing a cracked window.

- Vendor recommended that a Solar & Palau TD-150 dual vent in-line/remote fan be installed in my attic to remove steam from my two bathrooms. - Vendor installed a Fantech remote/in-line fan without advising me of the change in product. Vendor would not respond to requests for details on the Fantech model installed. Vendor would not provide warranty on Fantech fan. Issues with Fan: - The sound output in my bathrooms is very loud (though the fan motor in the attic is nearly silent). My foremost request was for a near-silent end result which the vendor acknowledged and promised. - A signficant amount of condensation drips out of the intake grill in the main bathroom when the shower is in use.- The draw from the intake grill in the master bathroom (furthest from the fan motor) is insufficient. The bathroom fills up with steam even when the fan is on. - The fan's ductwork was not fully insultated. - Dampers were not installed - when the fan in one bathroom is turned on, it runs (loudly) in the other bathroom. - The fan was not vented to the outdoors per the contract, but, rather, directly into the attic.- Unused wires were left lying about and not put into a J-Box; J-Boxes were not secured to joist.- Vendor ignored my request for information on electrical permit/inspection. Issues with Paint:- No efforts were made to contain dust when the bathrooms were prepped for painting (vendor did clean up upon request).- Vendor painted the wrong color in the wrong bathroom.- Vendor repainted, but 2nd paint job failed to cover the wrong paint color in various spots and began to bubble, crack, & peel within 24 hours. - Vendor got paint on door and wall tiles. - Vendor did not paint underneath light fixtures. - New light fixture was not installed level. - Vendor removed dimmer switch from main bathroom and did not replace with dimmer. Other switch plate in master bathroom was not installed flush to wall. Other Issues:- Vendor replaced blinds in both bathrooms, but did not cut blinds to a standard length. They go half-way down to the floor. - Vendor cut thresh holds for gaps in flooring, but thresh holds did not match existing flooring and were not sized appropriately to fit the gaps (even if they were to be re-cut) Attempts to Resolve:- Met with vendor on April 11th to discuss issues; requested to be released from contract and have deposit refunded (offered to return fan & parts). When vendor would not agree to this, I entertained allowing him to take corrective action - but, when he was unable to specifically tell me what corrective actions he would take and continued to ignore my specific questions about the model, warranty, etc., I was unwilling to agree to allow him to undertake corrective action. - I terminated contract on April 28th (the project was supposed to be completed by March 11th) and requested a refund of my $900 deposit. (Project total was to be $2,700) - I received no response from vendor. - Presently, I'm seeking assessments and estimates for corrective action from new vendors. Three vendors have independently assessed/identified/confirmed these issues. I also forwarded pictures of the installation to Fantech and received from them their suggestion for corrective action.
Description of Work: - Installation of system to exhaust steam from two bathrooms. - Repainting of two bathrooms.

Professional and responsive in their presentation, responding to followup questions, and setting up the contract. The price was in the same range as other companies offered. The bulk of the work was performed in two days, so that the house was not left exposed. Remaining trim work and cleanup was more sporadic, they needed to be nudged a couple of times, but responded immediately. Quality of the work seems very good. I would give them an A, but they would not honor the Angie's List coupon. Our contact said he was unaware of it; I had to show him the web page. The lack of a coherent policy here is a minus.

We were going to buy a house and were concerned about the house and the structural problems about it. Two of the owners of the company came over to figure out how much it was going to cost of the repairs. There were illegal thing done to the house. We did not buy the house. We really liked them. They were straight forward and very professional. Our home inspector was awful and that is why we used them. We liked them quit a bit.

The estimate was the lowest bid and the work was done on time and professionally, Mr Johnson followed up to ensure anything out of place was taken care of and recently (3 years later) we had a strong storm blow water under the roof overhang and he came out to inspect the job and ensure that it was not his work causing a problem.

With two days his crew had completed everything as scheduled and on time. In addition, he routed our problematic downspouts at least thirty feet away from the house (buried them). To finalize the effort, Steve came out and made sure all the old cracks in the driveway were sealed with sealant. He did not ask for any down payment or any payment until the job was complete.
Description of Work: I had large empty space beneath my back exterior basement stairs, front porch, and driveway -- probably a result of settling but mostly because the house builders failed to tamp or fill in when they should have. At various times the space under the stairs and porch were being used as nests for rabbits and other animals. The driveway was a concern because of the potential for cracking and collapsing. I asked Steve (owner of Exin Solutions) to examine and solve the problem. He assessed the job and determined that we also needed to improve the grade away from the house to avoid moisture collecting close to the basement. Overall, the workmanship is good - the business practices of the owner leave a lot to be desired. He's sneaky and under-handed. Because this job was such a big one - it took months to complete. Things were always good, until we reached the near-end. When he had collected just about all the money, before all the work was completed (I know, our dumbness!) he began ignoring calls and e-mails. After we fired him (before the completion of ALL the work) he acknowledged he owed us a credit amount and has not returned the money due us. He still ignores calls and e-mails. We have reported this company to the BBB of Maryland and the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. We have also begun legal action, to obtain the money due us.
Description of Work: This was contracted to install new siding, shutter, doors, etc. Masonary/brick the front entryway stairs, install retaining walls, install hot tub, remodel the master bathroom and several small interior jobs.
