The person I spoke w/was professional and courteous. I was offered the annual plan, but didn't feel pressured to take it. They set up an appointment, came and handled the problem. For that price, they come back again w/in one month. It was very professional and efficient. If I have rodent/pest problems again, I will use this company.
Description of Work: We had mice in the attic and running between the walls of our home. (yuck!) The technician came and spoke w/my husband, sealed any access holes the mice may have been using and set traps.

The technician was late and did not call, so I contacted the company. They located him stuck on the Beltway and he arrived about 40 minutes late. Other than that, no problems. He did a thorough job inspecting the property and supplied a professional report.

Seth was on-time and extremely professional. He did an inspection and answered all my questions about vermin, and how to keep my home pest free. Unable to see the larvae, I showed him a photo of the larvae, he determined that the pest was Indian mealmoth which had finds its home in cereal and other grains. This was valuable information as we were able to locate the source and throw it away. Thankfully, there is no dead rat! If I have any other issues with pests, I absolutely would not hesitate to call American Pest.
Description of Work: Saw maggot looking larvae on my drywall and called American Pest. They thought that since I live in a highly urban area, a rat may have crawled into the pipes, died and was decomposing. They sent out an inspector a few days later

I did what they recommended and the moths were gone in a few days. Even though they didn't perform an on-site service, they shared their expertise and saved me a few bucks. I will *definitely* use them and refer others to them if needed in the future.
Description of Work: I called American Pest regarding pantry/flour moths in my kitchen cabinets. The salesperson was very friendly and suggested that I should save some money and try to find the source of the infestation. They told me to throw out items such as pasta, flour (of course), rice, anything sticky, and anything that looked like it had been infested. They also told me to wipe off the tops and bottoms of all of the canned goods and wipe down the cabinets. They said if that didn't work, they would be glad to come to the house to take care of it.

I recently purchased a new home and discovered the existence of camel crickets in the finished basement. I also identified an area outside the home, near a basement window- well where camel crickets were nesting. I chose Ward Pest Control based on recommendations from other Angie's List customers. My call to the company was handled very well and an appointment was made for a couple days later. The technician arrived exactly at the scheduled time. He wanted to see the basement, looked around for places to spray, wanted to see the crickets outside, etc. There was a 4 foot high crawl space in the unfinished utility room with crickets but because of the limited standing space, the technician was unable to use his spray because the poison was actually in a huge tank he carried on his back. He then told me that he would spray the outside house foundation and also apply pellets in the landscaping to kill the crickets and if that didn't work he would come back and spray inside the home for no extra cost as a part of the 60 day warranty. Well, the outside crickets nesting near the window-well died within 4 days. Unfortunately, the inside crickets were still present. I called another pest control company, explained the issue with the crawl space and asked if they had products packaged in such a way that they could effectively treat this area and not have to spray the actual finished and carpeted basement. I was told yes so I hired that company. In summary, I would recommend Ward Pest Control because their procedure certainly killed the camel crickets in the places that were treated. The reason I gave a B grade is that the technician's arsenal of products prevented him from accessing areas of my home where camel crickets were nesting and I needed to call another firm to finish the job.

Very Good. Had sort of a challenge to get an update of an old estimate before work was done. Last minute cancellation of first appointment. Also, attempted lasted minute cancellation on second appointment, but arranged for another person to come out. He updated the old plan and cost, and was very thorough in reviewing costs and work process. Work was done as scheduled by very courteous workers and at 1/3 the cost of my former pest control firm.

Terrible. I was not satisfied with the service at all and would not recommend this company as the service and customer service is very poor.
Description of Work: They were supposed to conduct an inspection of my home and a full extermination. The tech did not inspect the home as they only thing he did was spray for bugs. A few weeks later I found a mouse in my home after I made it clear to the company rep that I wanted the house inspected and treated for all pests and bugs. Additionally, when I asked for a follow up visist no one returned my phone call or got back to me.

Response from American Pest
On first reading of this report, I wondered if this could POSSIBLY be our company? According to our records, the member called with a complaint of ants; the tech went to the job ready to treat for ants. Our company protocol is to have the tech ask the customer at first meeting if they are having a problem with anything (other than the complaint that initiated the call). The member was not, although she did have him treat for spiders as well as the ants. Granted, our office may not have noted the member's request to conduct an inspection and to do a full extermination, but the member had the opportunity to do so while the tech was there; she did not. Incoming calls are noted in message books and all calls are returned the same day. Again, however, the office may have erred in not taking the message the first time, but a second call from an unhappy customer would certainly have been given the attention of the office manager. As a small business owner we make every effort to satisfy every customer. It was very distressing to see this review and not to have had the member call personally to discuss the issue and be given an opportunity to make things right. We are reasonable people and a reasonable company. All of our work carries a 2-month warranty. At this writing, the member is still within that warranty period, and we would be pleased to provide a follow-up if requested. To correct, for the record, a couple of discrepancies in the member's report: The service was performed on July 8, not July 12. The cost was $195.00, reduced to $180.00 with Angie's Discount, not $125.00. Donna

We are in the process of selling our home and the inspector said that we had wood bees. The man from Ward came out a little later than agreed on, but worked quickly and explained everything as he went along. He also commented that it is very unusual for the bees to "attack" during the summer - that spring is the time when they are usually active. He gave us a two month guarantee to cover us in case the bees weren't completely eradicated, and also did a brief scan for termites (which thankfully were not in evidence).

We have had them for about ten years. I didn't understand the contract well enough, because we ended up replacing framework inside and outside. My husband thought that the contract would pay for replacement work, which isn't the case. They treat, but they don't pay for anything. They have been very responsive.

I contacted this company because it was the best rated for pest services on Angie's List. I also reviewed the contents of their web site before I called attempting to schedule a termite inspection to support the sale of my home. Well, forget that because while they don't advertise it, they do no do such inspections. I was extremely disappointed that they won't do what scores of other companies will do without hesitation. So if you're looking to get a termite inspection for your property, save your time and look for someone else on the list.

Response from American Pest
Thank you for your feedback. It sounds as though there has been some miscommunication regarding the services that we offer at American Pest. While we do offer termite inspections, the type of inspection that is often required for the sale or purchase of a home is called a WDI Inspection (Wood Destroying Insect) inspection. That type of inspection differs from a typical termite inspection in that it requires a special document in the state of Maryland. It is American Pest's preference to not perform WDI inspections on homes where we have no service history in the event that, without recurring termite monitoring, a home can be inaccurately assessed during a single WDI inspection. While WDI inspections may be performed by other companies, American Pest does not affiliate itself with any said company nor provide such services to realtors.

I thought that Josh (one of the company principals) was very professionable and personable. He and his company were very upfront and flexible in working with us using no-kill mouse traps. He explained that they weren't as effective as the kill type traps, but was willing to try them out and offered a handful of free monthly site visits (as part of the up-front contract) to check and refresh traps. We had limited success with the traps (as Innovative predicted). The company came out a few times to move, refresh and reset traps in the winter. Once spring hit, our mice issues seemed to diminish naturally. The only problem we had was that we got an unexpected bill for the last service call. It wasn't clear how many visits our up-front payment included, and we weren't told (BEFORE) the last visit that we'd come to the end of the included services and that we'd now have to begin payment. The charge was for a completely reasonable amount, and we would have been happy to pay the bill, but I just didn't like the surprise charge. I called the company to explain this and ask for a credit on the final visit. They didn't say yes or no, but said that someone would get back to me. I never got that return phone call, and that has upsides and downsides. The upside is that maybe they've granted my request to credit me for the unexpected charge. The downside is that I didn't get clarity on that final charge, and I'm still wondering if they'll call me to ask for payment.

The representative who did the inspection was meticulous, honest, and knew more about bugs than anyone I've ever met. He gave our house a thorough check, inside and out, and recommended services that would meet our needs and work for our narrow 120 year old rowhouse. The tech who came to do the installation was also terrific, a great problem solver, and did his work very efficiently.
Description of Work: First visit, representative came out to inspect the premises and discuss what services we need. We chose a contract that has a tech come to the house six times a year to check on all services. A few days later, tech installed termite monitors, ant control, and rodent trap, and sprayed below decking for mosquitoes.

Two men from Ward Pest Control came to my house - Chris and Ernie. Termite prevention service requires drilling holes near the foundation of your house. At one point, the drill got stuck pretty badly on the front stoop, just inches away from the front door. Ernie worked hard to get it out, but what I didn't appreciate was Chris's handling of the situation. While the three of us were contemplating the "stuck" drill, I had asked "Why are there so many holes?" I saw and heard Chris quickly and quietly say to Ernie "Don't answer that." I couldn't believe it. When the drilling proceeded to the backyard, Chris came to me after already having drilled holes in the stone scape (I had the backyard beautifully stonescaped in 2007) and asked if I wanted the holes to be drilled in between the stone slates or right into the stones themselves as the holes ideally needed to be 12 inches apart. I told him I preferred the holes be drilled between the stone slates as drilling right into the stone might (although it's extremely rare) fracture the stone. He responded by saying "Great, that's what I thought you'd want, so that's what we're doing." I didn't like how Chris just assumed something and then asked me after-the-fact. Between the two men, Ernie was the hard and honest worker. Chris is why I gave the company a "C" in professionalism.

I appreciate the ability to have the exterminator come at a time that helps me work around my work schedule. I know what it expect regarding preparation and ventilation of the house following his work.
Description of Work: Due to an extensive flood in the basement, my kitchen became infested with roaches. The exterminator wsa clear about how I needed to remove everything from the kitchen and surrounding area before his arrival. After researching a few different pest control companies, I decided to go with American Pest Management because of the reviews they received, the Angie's List coupon they offered, and the fact that they offer a Triannual Service - the other companies didn't. We don't have any kind of infestation at our house, just the occasional spider/centipede due to the hot summer. Still, the spray that we normally use from the hardware store didn't seem to be working, and I found it cumbersome to manage. I spoke to Ben and he was super nice and walked me through the options along with the prices. I don't know if it's the same guy, but someone else named Ben came out to do the initial treatment on the day of our appointment. He came on time, was friendly, and professional. He treated the utility room and garage and the exterior of our home. He said that spraying around the footers of our deck should be sufficient and that treating our second floor deck was not necessary. He did offer to additional interior spot treatments if I wanted, but since we don't have a major bug problem, he later recommended waiting to see if what he did worked first. If we see any other bugs in the future before our next scheduled appt. in 4 months, we can always call them back to spot treat. Even though their pesticide is deemed "safe" for humans, I agreed with the approach. We signed up for the Triannual Package, so our next appt. will be in 4 months and the cost of that service will be $139. After doing some cost comparison, this company was a few dollars more (even figuring in the coupon) over the year; however, I like the fact that they don't over-treat (the other company did, I felt). So far, I'm happy with the way things are going. I'm hoping not to see any bugs any time soon...

I am very pleased with the end result of the inspection and close-out. Both the owner, Mr. Ward, and the technician, Joe, came out on separate occasions for the initial inspection. I understand that Mr. Ward goes out for all termite contracts. They both took their time with both the inspection and explaining the different alternatives. We are on well water and our well is located in relative close proximity to our home, I was concerned about putting a chemical barrier around our home because of the well. While the pine stakes around our home are not a failproof monitoring system, coupled with the quarterly checks and yearly inspection I think they provide a good compromise to protect our home against termites. We also contracted with Ward to do a close-out of our home and provide pest control.as we have had the occasional mouse in the house. The technician, Jo, did a very thorough job of inspecting our crawlspace and garage. He came out to do the close-out and did a thorough job closing up all openings. The pest control will be limited to the outside of the house with service carried out quarterly, but with the option of treatment as needed both inside and outside of the house. We will be renting our home and I feel that our home will be well taken care of. It seems that the company currently has a shortage of staff in the office, so some communication takes a little longer, but it is worth waiting the extra time to contract with this company.
Description of Work: Ward pest control did a termite inspection of our home as well as an inspection for other pests. We have have chosen a non-chemical barrier for termite protection which consists of stakes placed at intervals outside the periphery of our home that will be monitored quarterly. The house will also receive a yearly inspection. We also requested a general pest inspection and close-out of openings around our home where pests might enter.

We saw a mouse in the house (twice in two days) and hit the panic button as we have two kids under 2. I called American Pest the morning of July 9 and they were able to send Don, our technician, to the house before COB. DON WAS FANTASTIC. Truly my hero. Thorough, sympathetic to my panic, patient and informative in response to my many questions, very polite and considerate and responsive to all of my concerns re kid-safe interventions. He asked detailed questions and listened closely to my responses re where and when we had seen mouse activity (largely in the kitchen) and within moments found their likely point of entry behind the stove. He thoroughly cleaned the area, stuffed the hole with steel wool and then went over any cracks/holes with a sealing foam. He inspected our cabinets, etc. in the kitchen for wherever the mice may have been and cleaned any areas where he found droppings. He examined nearby rooms for additional points of entry and sealed cracks that could be potential entry points for mice. While he thought that the sealing up of entry points would likely take care of our problem, he suggested two other methods for taking care of any mice that may still be in the house: bait, which, responsive to my concerns about kids, he demonstrated for me how it would work (bait goes into a locked box accessible only by a key that he has and a tiny opening for mice. Mice eat the bait and retreat to their nest to die); and glue pads, both of which he would place out of sight and reach of the kids. I decided against the bait, but he placed the glue pads as a way to catch any remaining mice and help confirm that our problem was taken care of. Bottom line: LOVED Don, and as far as I can tell our mouse problem is no more. Ok, so that's on the (VERY) positive side. I gave them a B for price because as others have noted, billing is a bit confusing, and when I called to schedule service I felt like I was being pushed toward signing up for their preferred care service, which involves ongoing, bi-monthly services for a fee. Here's the story: I called American Pest and after some initial gathering of summary info I was referred to Brian for more detailed info gathering. Brian talked to me at length about their preferred care, ongoing service, despite several attempts on my end to steer the conversation toward my current issue. I finally said to Brian that while I was interested in and appreciative of the info on the long-term service, i wasn't going to sign up for anything ongoing until I had opportunity to evaluate their service so could we please focus on my current issue: getting rid of the mouse in my house today. Ultimately, I feel like I didn't get the information I needed on the cost of the service I got--that is, there may be cheaper, one-time service charges for the work I got done, but I neglected to ask about them and they were not offered to me. Instead I got the "preferred Care Initial Service" for $225. I'm going to call and follow up on billing, so if there is an update I will post it here. Finally, on punctuality--recognizing that mine was a last-minute, same-day scheduling of service, for which I was very grateful, the initial scheduling window was 2-4 pm. At 3:45, with no one having arrived, I called for an update and was told 5pm. Don did indeed arrive at 4:40. I suggest to American Pest that they do as many other service providers are now doing--schedule a window, but also call when the technician is on the way or with any updates on scheduling. It makes all the difference to a mom of two--it means that instead of keeping my kids trapped in the house during the duration of my window, I can take them around the corner to the park and be back in time when i get the call re the technician's arrival. Overall, a great experience and I am so thankful that my mouse problem is (hopefully!) cleared up.
Description of Work: Identification of mouse activity; examination, identification, and mitigation of points of entry; clean up of mouse droppings, etc.; placing of environmentally and kid-safe traps to catch any mice that may still be in the house and confirm that all points of entry have been addressed.

We were having a problem with ants, stink bugs, and other insects. Upon calling several pest contractors, we found American Pest the most helpful with providing information. Though their first visit was slightly more expensive than others, a coupon from Angie's list helped bring the price more in line. We were able to make a next-day appointment with them. They showed up on time, did everything they said they would, and because we agreed to continuing service on a one-year contract, got even more, including a rodent trap in the garden outside our kitchen and other bait traps for insects around the exterior of the house. We have not had any ants or any other insect problems since the first treatment and are very happy with the service so far.

They were satisfactory. I liked their services very much, they seemed very knowledgeable, and came when they said they would. They had also left a report.
Description of Work: I had noticed a form of termites coming out of the back patio, so they put in about 12-13 treated pieces of wood around the house. At first they came out once a month to check the wood, later on they would come every 3 months and than 6 months.
