+ -1 moreThey did not have quite all they needed but made a note to do it the next month [what they did was the first service so if it is spread out over two it is not really a deficiency on their part]. We were very impressed with the two men who came -- they knew their bugs and seemed to love what they do nevertheless. They could answer all of my questions and even had images on their cell phones to show me what different bugs looked like etc. They were very prompt and the young man who made the estimate was there early! The other workers were on time. I'm very glad we hired them. They gave me the confidence that we will never have any bug problems and that they could handle the worst possible ones.
Description of Work: They provided initial treatments for various bugs in and outside of house and in garden shed, and also did treatments for termites.

+ -1 moreThe work has turned out mediocre. I had signed up for termite monitoring and I was home when the gentleman came over to give me a pest control treatment. I had also signed for other pest control. When he was finished and I asked how the termite monitoring turned out, he hadn’t checked it because he didn’t know it was supposed to. There obviously had been some sort of miscommunication with him and the company.

+ -1 moreWe have a contract with them. It is about $600 a year. All the applications are external so they manage it before the pests can even get in the house. The same person comes each month so there is some consistency. They are very polite and they thoroughly what they are doing and why.

+ -1 moreIt went great. I spoke to the company in the morning and they said someone would stop by in the afternoon to check it out and call me once they had inspected the nest. When I arrived home Ricardo was actually on my porch checking out the hornets. In this case, it was a decorative bird house made out of a gourd that they had moved into. He told me they were European hornets (who knew?). With a flashlight he showed me the honeycomb they were building and gave me a little hornet education. He said they could get rid of them one of two ways, either by spraying (quicker) or by applying powder around the nest opening (would take a few days). I picked spraying. He donned his suit, sent me inside and said I should use the back door until morning. The whole process took about 30 minutes. I saw a little activity around the gourd that evening but by morning they were gone. He said if the hornets return, just to call them and they will return and spray again. I have since taken the gourd down and placed it on the porch floor. I have found a couple of dead hornets near the opening but that's it. I am very pleased with their response and their team. In fact, the other company I left a message for never did return my call (but that's another report). I will call Ward's the next time I have any unwanted invaders in or around my home.
Description of Work: I had called a couple of pest control companies regarding dozens of large hornets that had moved into a decorative bird house hanging on my porch 10 feet from my front door. They evicted them.

+ -1 moreAt this point my only issue would be if I waited for American Pest to respond would it have been covered by my contract in which case I would have saved $270.
Description of Work: Called about cicada killer wasps which I mistakenly called bees because we have them swarming.I have a contract with American Pest for the year. I was referred to Bee Be Gone as it was explained that it would take some time for them to respond. I called Bee Be Gone and they responded that day and we set an appointment. The gentleman in charge, David, was very friendly and helpful in explaining the reason for the infestation and the problem. He sprayed into the mounds created by the females, and told me that the surface treatment would disappear if it rained, which it did, but that his tool goes deep into the ground and will kill the females laying eggs. I believe that last year the eggs were laid and that's why we have so many now around our patio and in the front yard by our driveway. David told me they don't sting humans but they do fly about you and are large in size. Since the number had not reduced much I called David back and asked if he could treat again. He did for an additional $95 but he told me that he will come out every 10 days to re-apply as this will continue until August. I am hopeful that his treatment will help our situation. Right now we are not spending time on the patio but we do go to our cars and I work in the garden in front so that's where I'm most concerned that they disappear. I will follow up with comments in the coming days as to the effectiveness of the treatments. It does seem like an expensive procedure but if it works it will be worth it.

The owner of the company, Mr. Ward is extremely qualified and he is highly educated in his field about pests, rodents and chemicals. He was very well informed. He killed the termites and did a good job. I would definitely recommend him.

Description of Work: Ward Pest Control did a termite control process for us. They use some type of chemical that is very affective but not very toxic. They bore holes around the parameter of the house and put the chemical in.

+ -1 moreThe setup, visit, and service went very well. The gentleman was very professional and I'm already set up for my next appointment. However I just received an invoice today from American Pest, in the amount of $66.34. I called them to tell them that they made a mistake, and the woman on the other end of the line really couldn't care less from the way she sounded. She looked it up and said, and ONLY said, "You can throw that away." I didn't know what that meant. So I said "You do know I'm not sending anything." She agreed. I said "You won't be sending any more of these things, will you?" She said "No." Pause. Pause. Pause. I was waiting for an apology, I guess, and she was waiting for me to thank her. Needless to say, there was not thank you from me, no apology from her, and I'm now left wondering if this is what American Pest does: taking in the coupons, then casting a net of invoices to see who bites. I'm not normally this cynical, but her complete lack of regard and her implied ennui at the situation were not encouraging. So they get an overall B, and Professionalism gets an F, due to the invoice I shouldn't have received (but would have let go had I been treated with the respect that I treated her) compounded by the unprofessional woman with whom I spoke. Not impressed.
Description of Work: I purchased the $199 Tri-Annual pest control service through Angie's list. Good price, and I've had some issues with ants lately. I'm already set up for the next appointment.

He asked what we had already tried and after discussion of the habitat of the bees, said that what I had been doing should work. He said to save myself about $200 and gave at home remedies for the bees. He also said that if it continued to be a problem they would come out and treat. All in all it was nice to get advice on what to do about those bees!

+ -1 moreWard Pest Control called me after seeing my posting on Angie's List where I posted "Can't really rate their service because they never showed for the scheduled appointment." We had used this company since 2002 for our rental property with no problems. It had been a few years since we called them. We renovated our rental property and decided to call them again. This is when they did not show for the appointment. They called and apologized and said an ex-employee had difficulty handling the scheduling. I've changed my rating and will probably call them again in the future. Unfortunately, after they did not show for the appointment, we used another pest control company to service our house.

+ -1 moreI called Ward about a "garden roach" situation in my condo. I mean those HUGE ones that come in from outside, not kitchen roaches. My particular building was having a large problem outside the front door with them. One the phone I was asked to explain the issue, then when we went to schedule the appointment they transferred me. The woman picking up the transfer then asked me to repeat my entire diatribe about my problem. That annoyed me, why do I have to repeat my entire story just to get scheduled, why wasn't the "scheduler" briefed? When the tech showed up, I again had to describe the problem -- he had no notes from the long story I told on the phone. When I did repeat the issue, all he wanted to do was spray the baseboards. Um, no...I want the source of them identified and dealt with and then the way they are getting into the house plugged up forever. The tech gave me a quote of $200 -or something to spray the baseboards but was not willing or able to handle my actual request. I sent him on his way and called another service.

+ 0 moreI worked with Josh Cramer. It is a family owned company and his father owns it. They were helpful and looked all around. It was an ongoing problem that I had tried to solve myself. A friend recommended them. He thought there might be something from a larger animal so they sent a large animal specialist and didn't charge any extra. It wasn't that but they wanted to make sure that everything was okay.
Description of Work: I used Innovative Pest Management because I was having a problem with mice. They came the following year and patched up an area around my dishwasher which could have been helping them come inside my house. They also looked in my attic.

+ -1 moreThey have always been courteous and professional. The technician seems to be very well-trained and knows a lot about ants. It is easy to reach the main number and they can tell me approximate what time American Pest technician will be coming out. They let me know in advance of the monthly service by e-mail and a phone call. And, best of all, I do not see many ants at the moment. A few months ago, I found some in my basement, and they came out within a few days. No ants since then.
Description of Work: I had a major ant problem last summer. They did an initial evaluation and showed me a number of places outside of my house that the ants were getting in. They sprayed outside--unable to spray inside as I have pets. They left a few black boxes filled with pesticide for the inside and put pesticide in the cracks in the wall. They looked inside and outside the house for termites and other insects as well. I signed a contract and now they come out monthly. I do not know the cost, but it was within the range of others. I found them by using Angie's List. When I see ants again, American Pest will come out within a few days and spray in the areas that the ants were getting in--which is covered in the contract. They also re-fill the black boxes which I leave in the kitchen. From time to time, they spray under plant containers on the deck as ants are found swarming there.

They check the inside of the house and the foundation of the house outside. Once I had a problem and called them and got the answers to my questions right away. I would use them in the future.

+ -1 moreI've used Ward's several times. Their technicians are very knowledgeable about pests and control options. There is NO overselling of services or treatments. They take time with the customer, answering questions or concerns about the chemicals they use. They make suggestions based on if you have pets or small children, etc. Their treatments are guaranteed for two months, but I've never had to call them back. I like how they are a local independent company and I felt that their fees were reasonable - especially for the good service! The office staff is also helpful when scheduling appts.
Description of Work: I've used Ward's several times. This time, I called them about ants swarming around the foundation of my house. Some of them were getting into a bedroom. He used a small amount of gel at the windows where they were entering the house and a spray around the base of the house. In the past, I've had them out for wasps, bees, and possible squirrel holes.

+ -1 moreThey are excellent and reasonable. They charge extra for things like wasps and carpenter bees, but they are reasonable and customer oriented. We’ve had them for about 20 years and they are so knowledgeable about everything from opossums to carpenter ants. You can call them on the phone and they’ll be able to give you the answer. We have recommended them to others and they are also satisfied.
Description of Work: Ward Pest Control does our pest control and baits for rats. One time they removed a hornet’s nest the size of a basketball.

Description of Work: The the technician, Joe, was on time and on his game. He already had a strategy in mind, of course in threw a monkey wrench in it but he quickly recovered and started outside. He then quickly returned and my parrot and I retreated to the basement while did the kitchen area. Really really painless. I swear I never saw one more ant after Joe left. It was amazing. Yes. I will definitely keep using this company.

They did come later than they were supposed to and had to move the time up and that it sometimes hard for us because both of us work down town, so we did not like that. The guy was really nice, but it is hard to tell what the affect is.

+ -1 moreWard Pest Control's process of completing reports has delayed us for over a week in being able to submit our mortgage to underwriting. Our original appointment was set for Monday May 23. Unfortunately, the technician that came to the house was unable to crawl into the crawlspace beneath the house, and had to send another technician out to complete the work. We do not know how many days that took, but it was sometime before Friday the 27th. In between, we called several times to find out the status of the report, and how long it would take for us to receive it. We would often be told that the person on the phone would find out and call us back - she never did, and we would have to call back for an update. On Tuesday the 31st we called and were told that the report was completed, and would be faxed to us (after another round of I-don't-know-let-me-call-you-back that was never returned). The report was not faxed before the end of the day as promised, but after business hours and after my husband had left work for the day, where the fax machine was, delaying us from applying for the mortgage for yet another day.
Description of Work: We contacted Ward Pest Control to have a termite inspection done to complete a Wood Destroying Insects (WDI) report we need to have to submit a loan for a mortgage to our bank.
