American Pest

After reading the positive Angie's List comments I called to schedule appointments for my condo unit, as well as my neighbors who live above and below my unit. We each have individual 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo units in an old corner row home of NW DC. I explained to the woman answering the phone that I am looking for a service that will do all three units. Clearly, each of the units is a separate account, but we figure using the same service for all of us is the best idea, plus we give our business to one place. After leaving me on hold, presumably to talk to someone about the situation, she came back on, quoted us expensive half hour and hour prices ($75 first half hour, $150 per hour), and told me that we are a charged as commercial... and to top it all off, the advertised Angie's list coupon won't count either. I calmly tried to ask questions, to have her clarify why, if each of us were going to have to set up separate account for each of our places, and have separate consultations, then why would we be charged as a commercial place with commercial rates. Her response was "because you are a condo building." She also told me my neighbor with the dog would have to have the dog leave for a couple hours while they assess the unit and then they will spray. I asked her why it would take two hours to access a 1200 sq foot place, and she said, because of the dog. So my neighbor is looking at over $300 before they even treat the unit for the common every day creepy crawly bugs. I told her I was very disappointed in the conversation and the service she said they were willing to provide to us. What a shame.

They did a good job but they made some mistakes in the back of my property. But, they came back immediately and remedied the situation.

They are always timely and professional. We get the same technician year after year.

Called them about removing bird's nest from a vent. Setting up an appointment wasn't as flexible as expected since they had to find a date when they would be in the Germantown area, so we had to wait longer than other companies would have taken. The technician removed the nest and put wire over all the vents, checked the basement and attic for pests, set some traps in the attic just in case, and checked around back for possible entryways. He also pointed out a possible hole where a pipe went into the siding and stuffed it with wire mesh. I pointed out some burrowing below my front step. He said it was probably possums, and put some sort of scent there to repel it. Haven't noticed any further burrowing yet. Seemed pretty thorough, and price was reasonable.

Seeing the good ratings, and wanting to go with a local, family-owned business, I called on May 30 to set up an appointment for a terminate inspection, having seen a termite swarm near our home. I was told the one person who schedules termite inspections had been out and they were catching up on appointments. Someone would call me back that day or early the next. Having heard nothing the next day, I called again and was told the termite person was on the phone but that they had my number and would call me back soon. Today -- trying to be patient because of the good ratrings -- I called again and was told the termite person was on another call but if I would hold, they would be available in a couple of minutes. After 9 minutes on hold, I hung up and called Superior Pest Management where, in less than two minutes, I had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow. It seems like there has to be a better way than having only one person who can schedule inspections for what has to be a major part of their business. The people I did speak to were always courteous and seemed to want to be helpful . . . thus, a D instead of an F . . .

Terrific experience overall. I called Ward and they sent a technician out the very next day. Chris came and took a look around and assured me that I did not have any current problems with termites. He also said that there was no evidence of any rodents such as mice currently in my house, but that there could be some in the fall. Since this summer I will have major construction - my crawl space furnished basement - he said that I should wait till the foundation is dug out before I do any sort of pest treatment. He advised pre-treatment for termites and an overall spray and treatment for rodents, insects, etc. Chris was very honest and clearly knew what he was talking about. I was pleasantly surprised that he did not charge me for the initial visit. Great company...I will certainly be calling this company when construction begins...and I will recommend them to family and friends.

Some of the people were okay. The guy that came out was great but the receptionist was not so great. I would use them again. They worked more in Virginia than in DC so the days that were more convenient for me, they were in Virginia.

My wife selected American Pest as they (1) offer integrated pest management and (2) maintain contacts with bug experts in the state extensions services. Drew came to my house for a termite inspection, as some house on my street had termites and we noticed some potential termite activity. Drew seemed very knowledgeable. He determined we did not need any services at this time. He did give us an estimate in case we need services in the future. If my house needs termite prevention services in the future, I would call Drew at American Pest.

They are great to deal with and besides the monthly pest control a service, they will come out during the month if you need them. Our service technician Joe is excellent.

Great service. They come on time and no bugs in my house.

It seems like the job is not finished.

They spray for mosquitos and whatever else they need to do. They have termite traps set that they check. They are friendly. I am not crazy about the price being as high as it is. I will use them in the future, but I will get a cheaper package instead of the $500 per year package.

They're a family-owned pest control service. They're pretty responsive. I think the people have always been helpful and friendly. We did have a termite infestation. They came over and did a treatment. The termites haven't come back. They do a treatment, and they come back every year for an inspection. I have been pleased with their service. They're very friendly.

I called American Pest on Tuesday after discovering large roaches in my basement and first floor. The customer service representative was very nice and was able to book an appointment for Thursday afternoon. The two exterminators arrived within the two hour window and were very nice. They explained my treatment options and did not try to strongarm me into choosing the more expensive options. I highly recommend American Pest based on this experience.

They are a local family owned business that has been in business for years. They are extremely reasonable priced and do high quality workmanship. They can deliver emergency or scheduled repairs on time. Ask for Steve and tell him you know Walt. He will take care of you. They have done work for me commercially and at home. After a wind storm one time they were here the next morning. They have done a lot of good things for me.

.The service is exceptional. They are always on time and we never seem to have any problems with pests. They tell us everything we need to know. They really do a great job and we are very pleased with them.

I'm very happy with them. If we see little critters they come out and take care of it. We also have in-ground termite traps that they monitor. They are just very knowledgeable. The generic companies seem to be not very knowledgeable about bugs.

They called me back immediately. Their prices were good.

The service was great. They were on time and gave a small window for arrival time, eliminating the thought of me having to guess when they would arrive. They were also knowledgable in providing serveral options of treatment. I ended up going with the one year contract because of the professionalism they displayed. They also came back out in May to help with carpenter bees and did not charge an inspection fee because of my annual service contract.

I have never had any complaints with them. They have always done well for me. The annual pest control service is $350 and the termite service is $75, that's a separate contract. Actually I don't have any dislikes like I said, I haven't had any trouble. I have had a couple of cases where they have come out to get rid of ground wasps and haven't quite done the correct milling; I could have blamed the ground wasps for that rather than the pest people. They are very responsive. When I call them they are generally able to accommodate my schedule to send somebody out because I work.

Joe, the technician, was extremely thorough. I've had other pest services try to eliminate the mice and they were not able to locate key entryways. Joe spent over three hours looking for small entryways and found some surprising results. He returned the following week with the materials needed to plug up the holes and sprayed inside and out for the insects. He will be back for a follow-up visit in two weeks and at that point I will sign a yearly contract. I highly recommend this service.

They were very knowledgable and they didn't try to oversell any service. They just did what was necessary. They were prompt and were the type of people you would want to come out and do service. I also thought they were reasonably priced.

It seems like their service is good. Their people are friendly.

They do a good job. I just call them and they come out. If I have a problem with ants, they come in to treat it with chemicals to kill them off. I thought they were reasonable. I haven't had the ants come back. It takes a little while to get an appointment with them.

I was concerned that my house should've been protected while under warranty. The owner came out. He explained the different options for our home. I didn't want to use chemicals. He suggested other options for our home. I didn't want to use chemicals because we had a bad instance with our dog becoming sick. Plus, my husband likes to garden. They had some problems with their record keeping for a bit. Service-wise, they're very responsive. I plan to renew a contract with them.
