Service was ok as there is now no evidence of rats or roaches but communication was difficult.
Description of Work: Company came to find the entry point for rats and remove rats. They didn't find the entry point on the first visit after extensive assessment, left a trap which caught the rat. They were to come back within two days with someone who had more expertise. The rat was caught in the trap and we removed it. When they didn't return, we called and were told that the person who was to come back was out with an injury and they didn't know when he'd return. After some protest, they called back and said he'd come the next day which he did but we never got any follow-up information, they never found the entry point and almost a month later we haven't received a bill though were reassured the original estimate would be the final. Company treated the kitchen for roaches, removing food from cupboards and leaving it on the counters, skipping one cupboard completely. We threw out food not knowing how much exposure it had to pesticides.

We called Ward on Wednesday, April 10th, as we had noticed ants the night before, crawling all over our main foyer, floor, etc. Our immediate concern was that we have a 6 week old baby in our house and need to access our main floor to get her bottles. Ward was first unresponsive to my original voicemail. After two attempts, a receptionist at Ward connected me to a scheduler who promised to call me back within 30min to schedule an appointment for the same day. Two hours passed and no phone call back. I called Ward again to get an update and after being on hold for 20min, was finally told that someone could not come out until Thursday (next day). Additionally, I confirmed with the scheduler that the Technician would come to our house, spray pesticide inside and outside of the house and will seal cracks and confirmed a price point ($145) We scheduled a time for Thursday, and the Tech came out on time as expected. He surveyed the house and told my wife that he would not be able to spray anything inside to protect our baby. That's fine and understandable. However, when asked about sealing cracks, he told my wife that it would take several hours and he couldn't spare the time to do so. False promise #1 - Committed to seal cracks and did not do so. Nor did the Tech lay any traps or explain where the ants came from, etc. False promise #2 - Committed to explaining the issue and helping prevent it After spraying throughout the outside, my wife confirmed the price with the Tech. The Tech responded by saying that the price would be $175 because he felt that they would have to come back for additional spraying, thus the cost would be higher initially. My wife asked why that would be a higher charge initially, to which the Tech responded "its really a headache charge, since its a headache for us to have to come back". This was astonishing. My wife refused to pay more than the allotted amount of $145 (finally settling on $150) and the Tech complained and took the check. False promise # 3 - Given a price by the office and then lied to about a different price for poor service and "headache" costs This is not the level of service I expected by Ward Pest, especially based upon their reviews. I will not recommend them to anyone and ask that they review their commitments and promised and quality of professionalism.
Description of Work: We requested pest control services for a swarm of ants that we saw on the main floor of our house. Ward Pest was called in to spray pest control substances inside and outside, as well as to seal any open cracks that the felt contributed to the ants entering our main floor.

I have an annual contract I purchased via Angie's List's deals a couple of years ago and then I renewed it. That was the $200 deal, but then it came up for renewal and so I am on my second year. They are very proactive in living. If am not going to be there they can schedule an additional time. I have never needed them in the house; I basically just want the prelaminar of the house taken care of, which they have done and I continue not to have any pests. So, as far as I cantell, they are successful.
Description of Work: I use American Pest for pest control and extermination.

The ants problem was successfully eliminated quickly with the ant baits the tech used at the first visit. But we are disappointed at the rest of the services. *** UPDATE: American Pest reached out to us when they saw our disappointment. At the end, I am satisfied. Please refer to the ?UPDATE? section at the end of the review for the details. First visit, the tech arrived as scheduled but he did not have the proper equipment for mice problem. Very basic stuffs like steel wool and pet-safe boxes for the mouse snap-traps and/or poison (we have cats). My husband ended up giving the tech 2 shoeboxes for him to fashion the pet-safe boxes out of them. When we called to set up the service we specifically explained we had a mice problem and that we have cats, so I could not understand why the tech showed up without the proper equipment. The tech also said that the holes on the floor board in our bedroom were not mouse holes and so he said he didn?t need to plug them, even though we told him that we often saw activities right around there. Contrary to this tech, the other tech that came at one of the later visits immediately said they were mouse holes when I pointed them out and he plugged the holes with steel wool as per our request. Also during the first visit, the tech identified a hole on the side of the house that he claimed was where the mice came in. But he wouldn?t plug it because he had to use a ladder to do that. He said that the policy is that if it is at a level that he needs to use a ladder, it is not included in the service. We ended up asking our regular handy man to do it for us. The first tech returned a few days later per my request b/c no mouse was caught, but still w/o the pet-safe boxes for the mouse snap-traps we specially reminded him at the end of the first visit. On this visit, I also pointed out that we now had strange flies and some type of crawling insects on our first floor in the dining and living rooms. The rep said either there was something dead in the walls or maybe the plants we had in the house attract flies. Either way, he didn't do anything about the situation and had no suggestion as to what we should do. It?s aggravating and perplexing that the tech said he couldn?t do anything about it. (I ended up researching the problem for several days and then purchased a fly repellent used by the pros, along with a gallon spray bottle and gloves off of the website Do My Own Pest Control.Com. I was thankfully able to get rid of the flies.) For days, we checked the snap-traps daily but no mouse were caught even though we could still hear them. I told this to the tech in a later visit but he had no suggestions. So my husband suggested to him to use ?beef jerky? as baits in the snap-traps instead of the peanut butter he had been using - he told my husband during the first visit that sometimes beef jerky works too as baits. My husband also suggested him that maybe we should use poison also. But again he didn?t have the pet-safe boxes so we couldn?t use the poison (the other tech that came at another visit later did have the boxes and he put some poison out per our request). We also suggested to him to try other devices like the sticky pads and maybe changing the locations for the snap-traps. He did all the things that we suggested but I think that he should be the one coming up with suggestions, not us, since he was the expert. We eventually managed, by ourselves, catching a few mice by trying different locations for the snap-traps, poison boxes and sticky pads and different baits. To be fair, the techs were all very polite and courteous. But overall we are disappointed and we will not use American Pet again. ***** UPDATE ***** I am very impressed with the fact that American Pest took the initiative to reach out to us after seeing our review on them. It?s rare in these days that a company this size still care about customer satisfaction ? especially after they had already got my money. This alone is a lot better than so many other companies who basically just take your money and run. At first I ignored their messages left for me b/c I just didn?t want to ?argue? but in the messages they did show that they care, so I eventually had a few emails back and forth with their Residential Operations Manager. He was sincere and fair when he tried to figure out what the problems were and offered to bring us satisfactions. At the end, I am satisfied with and accepted their remedy and offers. In light of the fact that they do show sincere care about their customers and that I get the impression that the problems we have encountered are not typical with this company, I am now willing to try them again in the future if I ever need pest control service again.

The technicians that do the actual work for this company at my home are great! On their last visit they reported the smell of gas outside my home (not part of their job requirements). I called the servicing gas company, they sent a gas tech out to check on the leak, confirmed there was in fact a gas leak and repaired the malfunction without incident within 2 hours of my report after the American Pest techs reported the gas smell to me. I called American Pest to speak the manager to praise the work of their technicians, but he/she was not available to speak with me. I was told I would be called back later that day. It's been over 2 months and no one has called (surprise). I'm disabled which the American Pest techs could clearly see and my disabiliity and safety was of obvious concern to them. (They could have performed their service and just driven off without syaing a thing.) If there were a fire or an explosion due to the leaking gas, I wouldn't have been able to make it out alive in time! No manager or the owner could spare even 5 minutes on the phone to return my call and accept praise for their techs going above and beyond what was required. Maybe that's why they can't hold on to service people. Bottom line: techs servicing my home are great! Management ? - What management ? If they were working for me I would have fired the "manager" responsible on the spot. I'm looking for a new pest service. There are many good ones in this area. Question - if a manager can't return a phone call, what else are they not doing properly or in accordance with Maryland rules, regulationbs and law? They seem to just be interested in signing up a homeowner for scheduled service and collecting a fee, and if you have a problem, you're on your own - we've got your credit card number on file! Oh, by the way, the billing department works very well. They've never missed a billing cycle yet! Obviously I would look elsewhere for service. The graders I gave them are a mix - great for service techs, not just for reporting the gas leak, but for taking the time to discuss and resolve pest issues with me. Management - unresponsive, uncaring, absent.
Description of Work: American Pest provides routine residential pest control. As indicated here they do not remove racoons, snakes, etc. They are supposed to treat termites, roaches, ants, etc.

Process went smoothly, did not take long, and was effective.
Description of Work: Rats had moved under deck to take advantage of birdseed that fell. Ward was called, did what he said he was going to do, the price seemed fair. We got what we wanted. A note to the recipient of this form: Your program that denies submittal due to incomplete entries is the reason some people don't bother -- me included. The approximate service date is totally manufactured -- I do not remember the date the work was done.

Overall, a very good experience. Staff was very professional and communicated extremely well with us. Work was completed above expectations and they even completed a courtesy re-check a few weeks later just to be sure the infestation was gone.
Description of Work: Assessed issue in home with insect contamination and helped to determine what the problem was within a few days. Gave us a checklist of what we needed to do step by step in the process of eliminating the issue. This is the first time I feel like I got my money's worth with an exterminator. We have an old row house and have had some mouse sightings, and it seems like American Pest got to the root of the problem. Past exterminators have only layed traps. This exterminator walked the perimeter and pointed out potential points of entry that we should plug. He thoroughly investigated the kitchen, found where the mouse was hiding, and gave us instructions to get rid of it. He was professional and knowledgeable. It has not been long enough to know yet if his advice worked, but I am confident.

I can't say enough good things about Mr. Ward and the service his company provides. He made dealing with (let's be honest, here) a not-so-pleasant topic very easy for me. When we discovered that the culprit was a flying squirrel, we both decided that the best approach would be to let the critter leave on its own rather than destroying it. Mr. Ward installed a one-way door at the critter entry point, so that the squirrel could leave, but not come back in. My critter problem was solved. This work all fell under the scope of the $120 winter rodent exclustion package they offered to Angie's List members. Money well spent! I think I will use them for regular critter/pest treatment.
Description of Work: I had 'critters' in the attic, and Mr. Ward discussed mitigation approaches with me.

The workers came and spent 2 days drilling holes inside and outside for the insecticide. They were polite, prompt and informative. The job appears to be well done.
Description of Work: Mr.Ward came in Spring to examine evidence of termites. He mapped the area for treatment. For family reasons we had to wait until fall to have the work done.

I bought this deal because I have had an ongoing mouse problem that spiked right around the time the offer came out. I had set traps on my own and caught several mice, but they kept coming in. The first technician came out and found 3 entry points where mice could come in. He filled those holes with steel wool or some other mesh, but he didn't have the caulk to finish the seal. After he left there was still evidence of mice, although the numbers were down. About a week later a different tech returned as part of a planned follow-up. He sealed all of the previous areas that the first tech had filled in, but he also found a hole that the first guy missed and he filled and sealed that as well. I haven't seen a trace of mice since then and I am so thrilled! What a relief!!

Identified possible entry points for mice and closed them up, provided some advice on how to prevent rodents and set a couple of traps. Good experience, and no mice this winter so far.

It actually seems that the problem was taken care of. He was actually very helpful just providing me with additional information on pest control in general and more specifically mice. They actually also came out to do a follow-up appointment as well. They were very friendly and very helpful. When I called their service, they were very helpful. I think the person that had to set it up with for my area was not available at that time but she called me back very quickly to set up my appointment. Overall, my experience with them was really great.
Description of Work: I purchased the "Big Deal" for the services of Ward Pest Control. They came out and walked around the property, evaluated it, looked for any entrances for mice. He sprayed, put down basins and traps and he actually did find a couple of locations where he thought were the entry points for mice and he sealed those as well.

Overall, I'm happy with the services and the price. Before I saw mice, and since they were here, I haven't seen any. My one complaint was that on the day they were scheduled to come I woke up early and was ready for someone to come. After an hour I called and was told that someone had already come, rang the doorbell, and left a business card and that I'd have to reschedule the appointment. This was really frustrating because IF someone did come that morning (to the right house), they didn't make much of an effort to either ring the doorbell or to call me before leaving. I was home and my parents were visiting, the dog who usually barks at the doorbell never made a sound, AND I searched the front porch and didn't find a business card anywhere, and yet they insisted that someone had been by the house that morning. I suggested that perhaps he had gone to the wrong house, but they insisted he hadn't. We re-scheduled and one of their guys came out twice and, again, I was happy with the service, but I was frustrated by that initial appointment and how it was handled. If I hadn't pre-paid for the winter deal with Angie's List, I probably would have just canceled the service.
Description of Work: I had Ward Pest Control come to look for pests -- I had seen a mouse/mice in the addition of my house and I wanted to make sure that whatever mice were around couldn't get into the house again and to locate and eliminate any nests. They ended up paying two visits and did some caulking and re-covered some screens under the addition and set traps for mice under the addition. They came back a couple weeks later and found mice in some of the traps. Since then, I haven't seen a mouse or signs of one, so I do think the problem is solved!

Extremely professional and thorough.
Description of Work: The original person sent by the company provided a rough assessment of what needed to be done and gave me a date they could return to perofrm the work. The contractor who actually perfomed the work, was extremely thorough and did a much deeper assessment of what needed to be done and he and his helper spent a considerable amount of time really working to close off all possible access points the rodents might use. I was very impressed with their professionalism, knowledge, and attention to detail. I would highly reccommend Wards Pest control to anyone.
