Mr. Wolfe is a superb craftsman. We probably could have found a less expensive place to have the desk refinished, but the quality more than makes up for the price. We would use him again, and highly recommend him to friends.
Description of Work: Needed an antique desk refinished.

The furniture refinishing was excellent. Michael came to our house, looked over the dresser and made some recommendations. The dresser had water damage which resulted in the finish flaking off, and the wood expanded and cracked. Michael was able to refinish the dresser, correct the damage, and it looks as good as new. Michael is prompt, courteous, and professional. If the need were to arise, we would definitely use wolfs antique furniture restoration again.
Description of Work: Michael refinished the top of my sons new dresser. The top of the dresser sustained a little water damage, from a leaking baby wipe warmer.

I couldn't even tell there was a crack. It's perfect. He did a great job. I would recommend him no doubt. He was great. He was punctual and was willing to work with my schedule to pick up the headboard, take it back to his workshop, bring it back when I was available and he also put the bed back together for me so I didn't have to do it. He did a great job.
Description of Work: I have a very expensive wooden bed frame. I cracked the frame while I was moving it because I moved the bed myself and I called them out. The guy came out. He took the headboard away which was cracked. He fixed it. He brought it back. I hired the company to fix a cracked headboard on a wooden bed.

The bookcase, which I got at auction, had a musty smell, and Michael refinished it. He managed to keep the antique look -- it doesn't look "refinished." A great job. The chair had a broken stretcher, and he had to fabricate a matching piece of wood with a cutout. You cannot tell which is the original stretcher and which is the replacement. Perfect. Will definitely be a repeat customer.
Description of Work: Michael refinished an antique bookcase and repaired a broken stretcher on an English Arts & Crafts chair. Both antiques of some value. He also picked them up and delivered them back.

The table base was picked up by Mr. Wolfe. He said it would take about 10 days. He delivered on time and then helped my husband attached the base to an existing table. I wanted the table base to be the same antique white as the chairs that go with the table and the match was perfect, I was very pleased with his work and would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Refinished a table base from oak to Antique white.

I had a drawer from an antique dresser that was broken, and an antique bed that I had started to refinish, but realized I wouldn't have time. Mike was very helpful and professional. He offered to pick up the items, but I was able to drop them off at the shop. He was able to finish the repair job quickly, and did the refinishing within a week. The work he did was great. I have refinished a lot of furniture, but plan on bringing anything else to him.

I got them through Angie's List but it was not a promotion. Mr. Mike Wolfe was the name of the person. I was very happy with him as he was great. A leg fell off of a large mahogany piece of furniture all of a sudden. I needed him to fix that and while he was at it he refinished everything. He made it look gorgeous. It looked very good as he did a great job. While he was here I asked him to look at another piece of antique furniture that I had which was an old desk that was for the secretary. It was stuck and we could not open it. He worked on it. He left with a metal piece that he was going to fix so that it was going to be able to open and close which was very nice. I was amazed and so, eventually I asked him to refinish another piece of furniture which would probably be very expensive. So, I cannot do it right now. I was very happy with him when I dealt with him. He was honest, straight forward and hard working. He was a nice person. I had no way of comparing his price with anything. He made an estimate and stuck to his estimate. So, it was good. The quality of his work was excellent.
Description of Work: I used the services of Wolfe's Antique Furniture Restoration & Refinishing for furniture refinishing. He brought back the things that he refinished on the 28th of December 2011.

I had a rosewood coffee table with intricate mother-of-pearl inlay that I had purchased in Thailand 25 years ago. Over time the finish had dulled, faded and worn off. In addition, there was a large stain (of unknown origin) right in the center of the top. I really thought that the piece was going to have to go in the garbage. Michael looked it over and said that he would try his best to bring the table back to "acceptable" standards. He wasn't sure if he would be able to get the black stain out, but he cited a few options that he would try in order to accomplish the objective. He took the table with him on the day he provided the estimate. I was pretty sure it wasn't fixable. I was prepared to have to have the table stained black to match the horrible stain. I didn't think he would ever be able to bring out the wood's highlights, lowlights and beautiful patina again. But he DID!! All I can say is: OMG I can not believe how fabulous the table looked when he was finished! This is a unique table - the only one like it that I have ever seen - and I am absolutely thrilled with the refinishing job that Michael Wolfe did. He was courteous, professional, punctual and fair. I would not hesitate to hire him again.
Description of Work: Michael took a badly faded, worn-out, ready for the junk pile, badly stained mother-of-pearl inlaid coffee table and restored lustre, shine, and beauty to what is now a rosewood masterpiece!

Description of Work: Mike refinished the top of an antique buffet. The top had started to sort of splinter. He came by for an estimate a week ago, we agreed on a price, he took the buffet at that time and returned it, with the top refinished in 1 WEEK!!!! He did a great job, would unequivocally recommend him

Michael was recommended to me by an antiques dealer in Fredrick Maryland to replace badly worn bottom pieces for a late 18th century armoire. I supplied some specially cut "red oak" planks purchased in Vermont. The replacement work was impeccable (and stronger than the original wood). The replacement pieces were perfectly dyed to match the armoire. He also replaced the old wooden pegs used to hold the armoire together since most of them were inevitably damaged when the piece was disassembled. He also dyed these pegs. To accommodate my work schedule, Michael delivered the items in the evening. He stayed until the armoire was perfectly reassembled and in place. In fact, he made several small necessary repairs that had not been part of the original estimate and did not charge us. My wife was so impressed with his work that we asked him to refinish a 6-foot circular table made from South African "yellow wood" that had become scratched, slightly discolored and marred. The repair of the surface scratches and marks along the base (caused by feet hitting the base) was perfect. His refinishing job was first rate and the new color matched almost perfectly the original chairs. Finally, we asked him to repair gouges in two Roche Bobois nightstands, that had been damaged during a move. Both of these repairs were perfect -- invisible to my eye. Michael is more than willing to share his expertise on proper maintenance, use or repair of antiques and furniture. He spends a good amount of time with a client to make sure you understand exactly what the repair is going to accomplish. He is also willing to schedule a delivery in the evenings or weekends to accommodate your schedule. His prices are not cheap, but given the quality of his work and the prices charged by his competitors, he is quite reasonable.
Description of Work: Replacement of bottom panels in an 18th century French Armoire; refinishing of badly marred "yellow wood" table; repair of two gouges in Roche Bobois nightstands.
