The services that were contracted and paid for in full were never performed. Jeffrey West stole the $500 that he charged me for the replacement of the Plantation Shutter. DO NOT USE THIS VENDOR UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF!!!!

On March 22, 2011 we contracted with Jeffrey West of Jeffrey West Designs to produce and install custom draperies and blinds for three windows in our home. As of July 22, 2011 we have not received any curtains or blinds nor have we received a refund of our $1253.00 deposit. Jeffrey West has repeatedly lied to us; nothing he has told us has been true. He is evasive, avoids written record by refusing to use email - even though he carried a blackberry (disconnected around 6/24), makes every excuse in the book and usually contradicts himself on the same call. About halfway through this ordeal we started following up every phone conversation with an email restating the conversation. We wanted a written record of what we were being told. This bothered him to no end. Every call (when we could reach him) he would emphatically state that he doesn’t use email; we said that’s fine, we use email and we’re using it to track our conversations. If you have a problem with anything we’ve stated, respond to the email. We recently ran a Dunn and Brad Street (DNB) credit report on Jeffrey West Designs and all indicators (late payment, beyond 120 days late, risk of business experiencing a significant event) are all at an indicator of “5”, the highest DNB risk category. This shows that this business is failing and by itself is a good reason not to do business with Mr. West. It was a big mistake on our part not to run a DNB prior to doing business with him. A DNB credit report is only $60 and a full report is only $150. A full report usually won’t show much for a small business like JWD, but regardless use DNB if you’re spending thousands on a contractor. Its’ money well spent. We have filed a civil lawsuit in Frederick MD to recoup our deposit along with interest and court cost. We have also filed a criminal complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC) against Jeffery West. We’ll update this post at a later date with details about the criminal complaint. The investigation is ongoing and we don’t want expose the direction of the criminal investigation.
