Description of Work: Renovated 2 bathrooms in coop apartment then total renovation of kitchen in beach house then renovation of guest bath in beach house.
Remodel bathroom and kitchen in sequence. Bathroom project: Pros: Quality of work was excellent handled by Antonio and his crew. Project was finished with a few days delays (2.5 weeks instead of 2 weeks). Cons: Francisco, the lead person handling initial customer contact was very responsive and friendly before contract signing, but after contract signing he was a different person. He has limited interest in serving customers well. As part of service he indicated he would accompany to purchase materials to be used in project. However he has no patience. In one case he stopped taking my calls and asked me to ?call his assistant to set-up an appointment? to speak to him on phone. He expects a customer to pick out everything with 1 -2 visits. Beyond that it is waste of time for him (as he needs to focus on getting new business from other customers) and he kept claiming that he is not making any money (despite charging me $12,000 just for labor which increased subsequently- read below). He had promised a timeline, then informed me that his cousin walked away so he would have less crew available (in the end this was not a big issue since they finished with just 2-3 days delay). Be very careful in what is actually written in contract. He had conveyed to me that the commission of 10-15% they charge on materials purchased is by splitting the 30% discount HBR has from suppliers between customer and HBR. However, even in cases where HBR did not have any discounts from suppliers on items on sale, HBR still tried to charge me the commission (in such case I could have purchased the items without HBR). In course of this project I was present almost daily to monitor work. Kitchen project: Francisco tried to rush me into selecting a kitchen that I was not satisfied with (again he is not interested in taking time to serve customers well but instead you feel pressured to move quickly so he can go take care of other business). I took my time to select a kitchen I liked. Project was delivered behind schedule (6-7 weeks instead of 3 weeks). The timeline Francisco indicated was not realistic in contrast to what Antonio (his brother) indicated after they started. Unfortunately I was not present personally present to monitor progress for this project so I have impression they slacked by working on other projects. I had concerns about some items Francisco promised they do without charging extra (for example installing lighting under kitchen cabinets, or replacing light fixtures) but which Antonio charged me for because he said it was not specified in the contract. I ended up paying a couple thousand dollars more than the original contract. On kitchen cabinets measurement side, it turns out Francisco overlooked three important items: (1) an island wall had to be demolished unexpectedly and rebuilt since cabinet was oversized, (2) a drawer was hitting oven door, so required some adjustment to gas pipe of oven to make more space in back for oven, (3) dimension of countertop turns out to partly cover a drawer when opened- after countertop was installed, it was too late to make any adjustments. A good/experienced kitchen designer would likely have anticipated and avoided some of these items before work starts. The project was delivered partly unfinished with various punch list items that showed sloppy finishing work that was sub-standard compared to the bathroom project. After a complete walk-through/inspection, Antonio took care of all punch list items well, so final product was excellent. During the kitchen project, I never received any more contact from Francisco and to this date (1-21-2015) he never bothered to contact me to check if I was satisfied or to thank me for my business. I ended up spending about $45,000 or more on labor plus materials for both bathroom and kitchen projects. Yet I have yet to receive from HBR a complete statement showing all charges and payments with receipts (for materials they purchased using my credit card) so that I can check all items and also for tax records. They sent receipts for payments I made in bits and pieces so it is hard to reconcile everything. They had also indicated they provide refunds for returned unused materials (of which there were some) but this was not done yet. Conclusion: I may use HBR again for quality of workmanship. However, one must be very careful about what is promised (make sure it is all clearly documented in contract to avoid any misunderstandings), ensure they will be monitored daily or every other day (despite that one of Francisco?s ?selling point? was that they take care of everything for customers even when they are overseas- which was not consistent with my experience), check carefully promised completion timeline (by double checking it with Antonio who does the actual labor with his crew). Francisco would do well to be more patient and available to serve customers until project is completed in same way he does before a contract is signed. By contrast, Antonio and his crew were very pleasant, patient, responsive, listened well, and were generally willing to take care of small details here and there.
Description of Work: Remodel bathroom and kitchen.
After reading the glowing reviews on Angie's list and meeting with Francisco I had very high hopes for this company. There were too many ups and downs in our remodel to even go into all of them, but I will do my best to highlight the most important. I don't know if they were just going through a rough patch during our renovation, but the prior reviews did not at all reflect our experience. Lets start with the positives. Pros: 1. The final product of our bathroom is beautiful 2. The subcontractors who did the tile work and drywall/painting were excellent. I LOVE our tile work. 3. When mistakes were made they seemed to genuinely be sorry and tried to make things right 4. They were neat and conscientious about cleaning up Cons: 1. Project cost twice as much as original estimate--we were expecting to spend around 12k for this and ended up costing 24k (probably more because I stopped counting small charges from home depot on my card after a certain point). There were some changes to the plan along the way which we agreed to and some unexpected things that came up--that happens. Just way more than we were expecting to spend. 2. Project took 4 months to be completed. We were quoted 2-3 weeks. This was for various reasons--some of which were out of their control (vendor issues--but vendors they recommended) and some were within their control (i.e. ordering the wrong thing, installing things wrong, not realizing the wrong thing had been ordered even though it was sitting there for weeks). Even at the end when there was just a few things to be done, it kept getting put off. It felt like the remodel that would not end. 3. Lack of design ahead of time. There was no clear design ahead of time which led to scrambling on the back end. For example, we ordered toilet topper and then they tell me at the end that the wall cannot support one and acted like I should have known this. There was no place for towel racks. We eventually found work arounds for these issues, but a design would have been hugely helpful. I should have known better, but I thought that Francisco was the designer and would have planned for this. I take 50% responsibility for this one. 4. Things done wrong, sometimes more than once. I'll just give the most egregious example here. OK, so the first time they installed our shower door it was not correct and the pieces came unglued within days. I notified them of this--they were planning to come fix it, but not urgently bc they were busy. Fast forward several days--the glass shower door falls off the track while I'm in the shower and shatters in a million pieces resulting in some minor cuts on my legs and feet. To their credit, they cleaned up the glass that morning and were extremely apologetic. I forgave them because they so quickly tried to make it right. Then several weeks later once the new door comes, they install it wrong--again! I can tell this just by looking at it. I call Francisco and he explained that the person who installed it had never done it before--WHAT???!! This was a shower door that THEY recommended and it had already broken once and they send someone who has never done it to install it? This is inexcusable to me. So came a third time and installed it right. I personally would not use them again, only because the thought of going through all that again gives me palpitations. But the final product was good, so I would not say that no one should use them. Again, I got the impression that it was a busy and tumultuous time for their business so this may not be typical. I would recommend getting a clear design ahead of time, be flexible on time and money (which probably is true for any job like this) and double check things yourself.

This is my first experience with a full fledged remodeling job and working with a contractor. This company follows through on their appointments and provide very frank and expert opinions about the job requirements. From 1st phone call to job completion, the time was around 12 weeks. Once we were committed to the job, I felt like I was their only customer. There were 3 points of contacts that would take my calls and find a solution to my concerns or questions. The design process was simple and the designer would guide to better decisions than you thought possible. The network of suppliers that the company had were good, easy to work with and had a variety of quality choices. The work was methodical, expeditious and quality. They made it look so easy to do, but I know it's hard work. I would recommend this company to all my friends here in the DC area.

We contracted with Home Breakthrough to remodel two outdated bathrooms after interviewing several companies we found on Angie's List. We found Francisco, Project Manager, and Anya, the book-keeper/accountant to be very detail-oriented and thorough in their approach to the original contract. As often happens, there were several change orders necessary as the project progressed, and the number of problems that needed to be corrected increased. Throughout the process, we were kept informed, were able to make decisions based upon improved information, and love the final outcome - 2 beautiful new bathrooms. The workmanship was first-class, the crews did their best to protect our home and clean-up on daily basis. Everyone was very hard working and accommodating. Also got a few extra handyman tasks added that had been on our to-do-list for a long time. Would use this company again and recommend them to friends!

Contractor came to the house to discuss demo and renovation of two bathrooms. Contract was well written and clearly spelled out what was included and what was not included. Their price seemed low initially. But the proposal excluded more items which when added back into the contract increased the overall price above some of the others. For example, the original contract did not include new subfloor, pot lights, shower niche, installation of heated floor and installation of heated towel warmer ... all things I mentioned that I needed in the new bath. When I added these costs in to compare with other proposals their cost was higher. In the end I went with a contractor recommended by the designer. If I was doing this again I'd clearly spell out to each contract exactly what I want and ask all to bid on a common set of parameters.

Their work was professional and quite beautiful. They have good taste. All the men who worked for them were pleasant. One even raked the leaves from my drain. They finished the job in time for me to move before my husband left the hospital. They offer to help whenever there's a minor problem. I recommend them to my friends and am totally pleased with their services.
Description of Work: They remodeled my bathrooms and kitchen. My husband had had an accident and couldn't navigate our two story house. So I bought a one story for him to move into when he completed his four month hospitalization. Home Breakthrough sat down with me and helped me make plans which saved me money and time and problems I hadn't forseen. They then made a bath and a half into a beautiful walk-in shower. Then they moved a wall to increase the size of my kitchen and they created a beautiful kitchen with new cabinets and a beautiful tile floor and granite counters.

Home Breakthrough LLC deserves its A+ rating. They remodeled two bathrooms for me and did a terrific job. The staff was very professional and responsive. They arrived on time, worked hard all day and cleaned up before they left. A supervisor was in and out often, checking on the progress of the project. Francisco, the project manager, was very helpful with the design aspects of each bathroom and in the decision making regarding the pricing and quality of the items purchased for each bathroom. They also shared with me a part of the discounts they received as contractors on each item purchased for the baths. The completed baths are beautiful. To complete the project Home Breakthrough had my house thoroughly cleaned.

The team that did the remodeling (headed by Antonio, Ceasar, and Roberto) worked very hard to finish within a short period of time (8 weeks). They worked overtime in order to finish. The team was very professional, easy to work with, and they did an excellent job. The finished bathrooms are beautiful. When we had a minor issue a couple months after completion of the project, Antonio came out the day we called in order to fix the problem. Anya, the office manager, was very responsive. She worked to get us parts online that were less expensive than we had found in the store. Our only suggestion for improvement is that the designer should slow down a bit and take time to write notes. This was not a major issue, however, there were a few times that things did not get ordered, although it didn't affect the timelines. Overall we were very happy and recommend them highly.

We just had our basement finished by Home Breakthrough. The did an awesome job and were great to work with! They really cared about pleasing us and did whatever they could to make us happy. As often happens in basement remodeling, some of our plans had to be changed due to the position of existing duct work or other inconvenient structural features. The Home Breakthrough team did whatever they could to find the best work around to solve these problems. As a result the finished product came out better than I ever thought it could. In short, I would absolutely work with them again. In a few years when we have our bathrooms redone, I will be giving them a call.

From the very beginning we liked Francisco. One thing we looked for was someone who was able to understand the look we wanted and had specific steps that outlined the process and timeline of construction. We also looked for someone who was able to draw the concept on a computer program rather than hand drawing a sketch on paper. Francisco is a knowledgeable, people-person and has great taste. We felt like we could trust him to make all of our ideas a reality and after about four months our home is amazing! We began with weekly Tuesday night meetings just to make sure everything was moving in the right direction. Between picking out kitchen cabinets to choosing bathroom toilets, Francisco listened, went to a few tile stores with us and provided great expertise because we had no idea ALL the decisions that we had to make. Kim and the crew (who we trusted to work in our home every weekday while we were at work) were on point. They moved our extremely heavy furniture, knocked down walls with absolutely no mess by the time we arrived home from work, and worked to accommodate our every need especially when we had a change of mind about a few things after it was installed. They were extremely neat and sometimes stayed late until we arrived home to give us updates on the renovation. We've added additional toe-kick lights under the kitchen cabinets and about 12 recessed lights which all had to be LED. We were so indecisive so many times and Kim was extremely patient with us. The price was just right and it was a true pleasure working with very experienced people. We lived at home through the construction so we were able to see the process. We are very, very happy!

All fixtures stayed in the same places, but where replaced by new ones. The workman did an excellent job of demolishing the old plaster walls and pulling up the old tile/cement floor. The problems we encountered were related to timeliness -- it took two months to complete a job they originally estimated would take 3-4 weeks-- and working with the owner. He failed to keep accurate track of materials he purchased via credit card. He promised to fix a radiator that stopped functioning during his work on the system, but never could get it working.

They did an excellent job on my house. They were professional. This was my first remodeling project and I couldn't picked a better company. I had three companies to choose from and they were the most responsive, professional and knowledgeable company. Before demolition, we sat down and devised a CAD drawing of what the future of my house would look like. Francisco and Antonio were very helpful and patience with me in terms of picking the correct items for my home. Lastly, I was having some financial problems and this company was patience enough to allow me to extend my payments until I was able to pay them. I will call them again in the future. I HIGHLY recommend them.

I must express my frustration, since I was not able to climb into the attic at the time to check to see if the vent was installed properly for the upstairs bathroom. It was not, and didn't even go through the roof. We now have to get it fixed. I would be cautious about using this company, as the vent is a critical part of the plumbing process for renovations. I surely don't want mold in my house. While I was out for an operation and recovery, the bathroom upstairs was changed from a bathtub to a shower. The tiles came from Home Depot and were nice. They fit the décor in the bathroom. The basement tiles came from the Tile Center, in Rockville, MD. Other products came from Ferguson and from Reico and Home Depot, and from a granite store. 1. The process for designing the new bathroom in the basement was greatly helped by the 3-D software program that the company uses. It did not take much effort for me to see what I wanted displayed on the computer. This was a big selling point to selecting the company. 2. The work was well done. Frederico was very proactive about helping to pick out tiles and the other fixtures for the bathrooms. Even with an impending hospitalization and a little fall in one of the stores on my part, the process worked well. 3. The company purchased a lot of additional supplies that were not necessary and had to be returned to the respective stores. The return process was at their convenience, not my financial convenience. Getting the items returned was painful as I had to ask several times to have it returned. 4. The bathroom renovation, the installation of a new bathroom and modifying the laundry room ended up being a lot more expensive than I thought it would be at the beginning. It also took longer than I thought as well. 5. In the upstairs bathroom, the bathtub was removed and a shower put in. The toilet had to be removed to put in the shower doors. The toilet was put back in such a way that I could not remove the trashcan that I put there before the toilet was removed. I ended up having a handyman replace the toilet and the trashcan can be moved in and out with ease at this time. I don't think that the person who reinstalled the toilet gave much thought to long term practicality or concern on the part of homeowners. I asked that Home Breakthrough finish the upstairs bathroom, so I could get the wood floors refinished. They did accommodate us, as at that point, I was recovering from the surgery and could follow up on the projects. I am generally happy with the end products. I just wish that there were a better mechanism for controlling supply costs and receiving the receipts for the supplies. As an afterthought, I should have asked for jets in the bathroom, and one suggestion that the contractor had after the fact was a heated floor. It would have been nice if this were mentioned in advance. Too late now.
Description of Work: Home Breakthrough replaced a bathtub with a shower in one bathroom and created a new bathroom in the basement. They also finished off a portion of the laundry room. It took about 7 weeks.
I cannot express enough what an amazing job Home Breakthrough did. From start to finish, HB was exactly what we needed. Their business manner was informative and professional. They had a solid understanding of what we needed and wanted, and every step of the way was able to either let us know the best way to do it or to let us know that it wasn't advisable. (For example, we had thought we wanted a sliding door for the tub/shower, until they pointed out the lack of space between the sink area and the shower faucets, which wouldn't allow us to reach in easily to start the water with a sliding door.) Their estimate on labor and materials was fair and came in about 20% less than the first estimate we received, and included work that the first contractor said they were unable to do (replacing the window sill in the shower). I thought the options for materials (either a flat fee or an itemized customer-approved method) were fair and helpful. We were on a tight schedule when the work could be done, and HB worked very hard to work within the timeframe, all the while keeping our expectations in check and being realistic and up-front about how quickly everything could be done. Even when there was a slight delay when some of the materials came in late, they sent someone out the Saturday at the end of the project to make sure it was done by the following Monday. The consultation visits to the tile store and the bathroom fixture store cost 10% of the materials purchased, and they were well worth it. They brought a wealth of knowledge to the work, from both a practical and design point of view, and the dialogue allowed us to have complete control over the decisions made while in return receiving invaluable advice and suggestions. The contractor discounts more than offset the 10% fee if we had gone out and purchased everything ourselves. The work itself was done thoroughly and professionally. They were flexible to work with us by installing the one fixture we got on our own (a sink and vanity from IKEA), and even swapped out the inferior IKEA-grade piping with far better drainage and pipes. When the medicine cabinet we had bought separately (also from IKEA) ended up not being able to be anchored well enough, they helped us choose a medicine cabinet that met our exact needs and looks a lot better than the first one we had picked out. The new bathroom looks amazing and is, frankly, the nicest room in the entire house. They handled all disposal of the demo materials and left the rest of the house clean. All the fixtures and plumbing work wonderfully. The ventilation system makes a huge difference in how much moisture can be expelled during showers/baths, so much so that the mirror doesn't even fog up most of the time. The real proof in the pudding came when we paid our first water bill following the work. The utility statement compared the current period's water usage with the same period in the prior year. It had dropped from 15,000 gallons to 9,000 gallons, far enough that we are now billed at a lower per gallon rate. Their labor warranty is very generous and gave us great peace of mind. About a month after the project, we noticed two hairline fractures in two of the tiles, along where the structural support beams are behind the walls. We notified HB about the issue, and they were able to come out within the week to look at it. The cause turned out to be the foundation of the house, where the size of the cross beams under the flooring are not up to the grade expected for a house of this size. This was consistent with another contractor's observation from before when we needed some work done in the crawlspace under the house. HB proposed swapping out the current floor supports with the appropriate size boards, after which time they could replace the cracked tiles free of charge. We still plan to take them up on this once we get the timing nailed down. I have already started recommending Home Breakthrough to neighbors, and would gladly recommend them to anyone. And in a couple of years when we are ready to remodel our kitchen, we will absolutely be giving them a call.
Description of Work: We have a very small bathroom that was in need of updating and remodel. We suspected there was leaking in the pipes underneath the floor, there was significant moisture retention in the under-sink cabinet and tiling due to the lack of ventilation, the faucets leaked perpetually, and the electric outlets were located in inconvenient locations. Home Breakthrough ("HB") did a full assessment of what would be required to perform a complete demo of our bathroom all the way down to the floor joists and into the walls. Finding no water damage (thankfully), they: - went with us to the tile store and a bathroom fixture store to help us pick out materials - redid the flooring and walls - replaced the old galvanized plumbing with copper piping - rationalized and updated the electrical outlets - installed a ventilation fan and exhaust pipe out to the roof - installed all new bathroom fixtures (tub, toilet, sink & vanity, medicine cabinet, wall cabinet) - laid new tiling on the floor and in the shower/tub (floor to ceiling) - replaced all the woodwork trim - even replaced the old moisture-ridden window frame and sill with more durable waterproof materials (which another contractor had said they couldn't do).

The contractor completed the job within the time limit set, readjusting for additional work we requested. The work done by the contractor was of excellent quality using the same workers for the entire 9 week job. The workers not only appeared to enjoy the work they were doing, but also enjoyed working together-they individually are very talented & detail-oriented. We were always comfortable with their presence, feeling free to leave the house for a couple of days at a time with no concerns. It was also evident that the company owner and project manager were also comfortable with their workers. We were always briefed on the day's and week's work plans (electric will be off for 2 hrs.--water will be off for a day, etc.) which allowed us to maintain a fairly "normal" life during this huge remodel. The contractor worked closely with us describing different options available for each room's remodel as well as replacement of cabinets, appliances and fixtures. All resulted in top line appliances/fixtures as well as the work itself. This goes for the "areas you can't see" as well. The subsurface floor replacement was done with extra support features. The replaced, and additional, electric, water and sanitary lines were also discussed, planned out with us and replaced with quality material in a professional manner. "Extras" requested by us -- i.e. insulation, TV cable relocation, etc., were done at no extra charge. The final painting, trim, tile work etc., is of the highest quality. The installation of a sliding door in a previous window area is perfect. Likewise the removal and sealing of the former door in the kitchen to the outside back of the house was done very nicely and with closely matching brick. This was done to expand the kitchen area. We have shown it to visitors who could not detect a difference. We must add that any time our team had to access the basement for work, they had to deal with an area overly "full of stuff" but never complained. Instead we were merely informed of what they needed to access and that they would be moving "stuff" to get the job done. The contractor (he and his work and office team) were available at pretty much any time we called. If not, they got back to us promptly. One of their key players in this team is Ms. Anya at the central office who coordinated any requests & was responsible for all ordering, account documentation & billing on a timely basis & in a professional manner. The phone was always answered at Home Breakthrough when we called. Issues (which were really only small ones) were acted upon immediately. The daily schedule of the team was always known and they arrived promptly, stopping on the way only to purchase necessary supplies for the day's work. They worked Mon-Sat. Likewise the project designer paid timely visits to the site as milestones were reached, and key areas of the remodel were ready to be worked on. Confirmation of the work to be done, as well as the appliances/fixtures to be installed, was professional and timely. We cannot say enough about this great company and their workers.
Description of Work: The contractor/crew did a major renovation (and total gut) of our kitchen, dining area and bath (circa 1956). Also installed was an on-demand water heater, gas lines for this and a new gas stove in the kitchen (replacing our former electric units). New electrical wiring & plumbing were installed. Sub floors in bath, kitchen and dining area were replaced. A basement utility/laundry room was walled in with recessed water lines, washer drain & dryer vent. All 1956 plumbing & connections were replaced.

Although the overall quality of the work done by the actual workers- the woodwork (I had bead board installed), tilework, floors, painting, etc was wonderful - working with Francisco was a complete nightmare. He kept claiming to be a designer, but he did not help me design one single thing, except for advising on the hand-held shower components. He never once looked at my idea book, and barely had the patience to listen to me describe what I wanted. The "shopping trips" with Francisco were time consuming and virtually useless as he contributed no design/decorating ideas. I finally gave up and hired a true decorator/designer who within two meetings had all the pieces pulled together for me. During the remodel, the water pipe to the toilet broke during removal/replacement, which I discovered at 8 pm. that night when my living room ceiling partially collapsed and the drywall on the two walls beneath was seriously damaged. I called Francisco in near panic, and the workers did turn around and come back within an hour. They stopped the leak for the night and later did a permanent repair. However, Francisco refused to take any responsibility for this, saying I had "old pipes". I told him he was the professional and should know how to look for and deal with "old pipes". By this time, the job was almost finished and I just wanted them gone, so I stopped arguing about it. Francisco tried to charge me $175 per hour for repair of the broken pipe, saying that was the standard rate for a plumber (um, no it's not). He also wanted to charge me $1800 to repair the ceiling and drywall in the living room! I found another contractor who did a beautiful job for about a quarter of that. The workers left my house filthy dirty, did not provide the promised cleaning crew, and dripped white paint all over my brick patio and furniture, which they later power washed away, leaving blast marks. I don't know what to say about my experience, given that so many other people seemed to find this company just wonderful. The result is beautiful, but the process was awful and this wasn't exactly bargain prices. Maybe my little townhouse wasn't considered important enough to warrant professional treatment by the boss.

Having not been long since a major kitchen renovation that went well over budget and lasted much longer than anticipated, I approached the renovation of my bathroom with hesitation. I received estimates from many companies but went with Home Breakthrough for many reasons. During our first meeting with Francisco and Anya, they proved to be very knowledgeable - especially about what problems I may expect with a renovation in an old building. Their estimate was very detailed and covered all bases. When it came to shopping for materials, I was not left on my own. They came with us on a Saturday to help pick out a beautiful tile pattern and fixtures - keeping me well within my budget. Work started promptly, and when some problems regarding my plumbing did arise they were right on it - adding only a minimum amount of time to the total. In fact, I am so glad to have taken their advice as I just recently found out that the building (I'm in a condo) must undergo a major plumbing overhaul in the common areas. The fact that they replaced all of mine is going to save me a ton of headaches in the future. The workmanship was excellent and I could not be happier with the results. I am so glad that I went with Home Breakthrough, especially since the estimate I received from a "refit" company that would have only covered my old tile and tub was actually for about the same price I paid for a totally new bathroom and plumbing. I recommend them without reservation.
Description of Work: Completely gutted and renovated bathroom, including new plumbing. Helped to pick out tile and fixtures, offering great suggestions to keep within budget.

I'm writing this review on behalf of my mother who had her bathroom renovated this past month by Home Breakthrough LLC (HBLLC). It took 2 weeks for the project to complete, just as the contractor had estimated. My mother worked with Francisco who arrived promptly to the initial consultation meeting; assisted her in selecting all of her material; and was her main point of contact while the work was being done. She was extremely impressed with his professionalism, thoroughness, and his ability to listen and implement her vision of what she wanted done in terms of the renovation. The contractors that performed the labor were all courteous and worked diligently each day they were there. We had no major hiccups during the project which definitely helped to make the renovation go smoothly. The finished product came out great and my mother and I were both really happy with the quality of work that HBLLC provided. I would definitely hire them again for future projects, and I would recommend them for anybody else in the DC/MD area looking to renovate their bathroom (or kitchen).

First, they were 15 minutes late after calling and asking me to move the appointment back by 30 minutes. Then they provided me with little more than scare tactics about my kitchen and the house. They took no measurements, provided no estimate, gave no ideas on how to modernize or remodel the kitchen and seemed genuinely irritated to be there. Then they left after 20 minutes and I haven't heard from them since. Whoever does their emailing is very nice though. And responsive.
Description of Work: Allegedly was to provide a kitchen remodel estimate.

Home Breakthrough recently renovated a small upstairs bathroom in our home, which was built in the late '60s. Given the fact that we were dealing with such a small bathroom, we explored many different options to try and get the most out of our small space. Francisco was great from the start of the project to the completion of the job. He was very helpful in discussing and exploring different options to meet our families needs and was upfront about the cost and potential additional costs that could be incurred as the project progressed He also did a very good job communicating with us throughout the project as we encountered quite a few work order changes during the job, which we expected given the age of our home (pipe replacement, electrical rewiring, etc.). Kim and his partner, who did all of the work, were fantastic -- always on time, very polite and respectful (we have many small children in our home) and VERY ORGANIZED AND NEAT. We are extremely happy with our new bathroom and hope to have Home Breakthrough back next year to renovate our kitchen!
I meant to write a review soon after the service was completed last year. However, I decided to wait until we know for sure their work quality was proven to be as it had been promised. So, almost one year after the completion of the renovations, I would like to share with others who may be thinking of hire them as a contractor what a great work they performed. First of all, they (both Francisco and Antonio-brothers) were very professional as well as thoughtful. From the planning stage to the execution stage, they were very patient and flexible according to our needs. Secondly, their price was very competitive. We had two other proposals. Theirs was not the most inexpensive, since the other bid included some items such as the tiles, tubs, shower heads, faucets, lighting fixture, and many more. However, I liked the fact that other items can be selected later by ourselves in a way we like with Francisco's help. They will tell you how we can save money keeping the similar standard. Their billing system is very transparent and efficient. Lastly but not the least, their attitude toward the job was very sincere. It made us think that they were trustworthy. Indeed, all the workers worked so hard and brought an excellent result. Unlike other contractors, they give you five year warranty. So far, we have no problem in the area they worked on. We still have our master bedroom and a guest room to be renovated. I will definitely have them back to complete the entire house renovation.
Description of Work: We first worked with them for the renovation of the master bathroom and a guest bathroom. Since their work was excellent, we decided to work with them for the entire kitchen renovation. Then, it expanded to the entire first floor renovation including the powder room and hardwood flooring. They did all the electrical work as well. The only thing we did not ask them to do was painting the cathedral ceiling (we hired a painting company for this job). They installed the new cabinet, dishwasher, refrigerator, and etc.

From the initial quote and consultation through completion of our shower remodel, we couldn't have been more pleased. Where other contractors were vague, overpriced, or tried to talk us into things we didn't want or need, Francisco was specific, listened to what we wanted, and came up with a very fair quote. He provided receipts for all his purchases, and when I shopped for tile without him, he directed me to the best salespeople at the tile store and had me use his account for the discount. There was NO guesswork... everything was honest and direct. Anya, who did all the scheduling, ordering and billing was responsive and so pleasant to work with. Jorge did the work daily with one helper. They kept the rest of our house clean and did a beautiful job. They showed up when they said they would with the exception of a couple of days. On those days, I received a call in the morning letting me know we needed to reschedule. After the job was done, a cleaning crew came to the house to dust and vacuum the affected rooms. I would also like to say that Francisco did a great job guiding us creatively. Although we didn't shop with him, he suggested certain tile layouts and sizes we wouldn't have considered. We took his advice and it's beautiful! We absolutely love our new shower and are looking forward to hiring Home Breakthrough down the road for larger projects.
Description of Work: Demo of old shower in master bath. Construction of completely new shower in existing space. Tile work, new shower floor, plumbing, etc. Fixed ceiling below in dining room where water from old shower had leaked through.
