Description of Work: -I own the Gold Service plan contract ($319.95) -Did the annual tune-up on oil furnace. Tech was on time and professional. They always do a good job and are prompt to come out to fix things (leaking oil filters, etc.). Answered all my questions honestly and professionally. -It is unfortunate the gold service contract price went up this year, not much, but still went up. They are currently offering a $25 discount ($15 discount compared to what I paid), but only to NEW people that sign-up....

Description of Work: In mid May 2012 the air conditioning for our home quit working. We have a home warranty and the home warranty company assigned Griffith Energy Services to address this problem. The first tech showed up and told me he couldn't do any work that day because the entire system was frozen all the way out to the pipes running to the outside unit beside our house. He showed me the thick ice on the pipes. I had to shut the ac off until the ice melted and this tech returned the next day. He spent a few hours trying to diagnose the problem and then called another tech from Griffith to come to our house to "validate" his findings. Between these two techs they said we needed a new compressor. The home warranty company approved this purchase--which runs about $1000--and we had to wait a few weeks for a compressor to be ordered and come in. Then a different tech showed up and installed the compressor which took about 4 hours. The ac seemed to be working and cooling the house for about 2 weeks and then we noticed the house was hot again and the ac wasn't working. I went out to the outside pipes and there once again was thick ice on the pipes! A new compressor had not fixed the problem. Once again, Griffith Energy sent out a different tech and this tech told us we needed an expansion valve (about $400). The home warranty company approved this valve purchase. Once again, we had to wait another few weeks for the part to be ordered. We are now in early July with no ac and getting very frustrated. A different tech came out and replaced the expansion valve on July 11 which also took him about 4 hours. He left and the ac unit never cooled at all. The temp in the house was 83 degrees at that time and with the ac running for the next 24 hours the house temp had only dropped to 78 degrees. I went outside and looked at the pipes and there was the solid ice on the pipes! Now we have the home warranty company out $1400--thank goodness it wasn't me--we have no ac in the house for almost 8 weeks at the height of summer and the problem is still not fixed with multiple techs from this company. Finally, the problem was solved when the home warranty company assigned a different company to look at the problem with "fresh eyes." This guy showed up and it took him about an hour--then he started laughing--because he told us the problem was that the fan on the ac unit was rotating in the wrong direction! He switched the direction of the fan and voila! the ac is fine! I didn't mention that this fan was replaced by a different company in March 2012 and wasn't installed properly which cause this entire mess. Unfortunately, none of the techs sent out by Griffith Energy recognized the problem.
