Motivational Movers

This is not the first time I've used them. I had them move me from my house (September 15, 2012) and put everything into storage for me. Once I'd decided on a new home, they moved me from the storage unit to my new place (October 28, 2012). Loved working with them. Extremely professional, curtious, friendly, hard working group of guys and their accounts/office manager, Amanda, is incredible and effecient. I was so impressed with them the first time, that I used them again a few weeks later for my final move. I would HIGHLY recommend them.

They were excellent. I was impressed with the way they packed the truck; they were very effecient and nothing got damaged. What really impressed me was they gave me quote of what it would cost and they actually came in a lot lower than what they quoted. They were outstanding.

They were awesome. They did a fantastic job. They called me before and after the move to make sure everything was ok. I had just gotten my walls painted and my wooden floors refinished and there were no marks after the movers completed the job, a true sign of professional. They also alerted me that I was double charged. They went above and beyond. I would highly recommend them and would use them again.

I was a little disappointed with this in the end. I decided to use this company because Angies' Big Deal was offering 4 hours of moving and 4 people for $270. This seemed like a great deal and seeing as the distance between my old house and my new house was less than a mile; a 5 minute drive, I figured we could probably get the move done in 4 hours, 2 hours each end for loading and unloading. When I asked for a quote I found that in addition to the headline cost, there was a "mileage surcharge" which was $65 for up to 25 miles between houses, with additional miles at $0.79 p/m. Since the distance was less than a mile I thought this was unreasonable, but they were unwilling to negotiate it citing it as a "standard charge". Additionally there was a further fuel surcharge of $0.79 p/m, adding another $36 for their travelling to and from their depot in MD, a mere 25 miles away. If there must be surcharges then given that the fuel surcharge is applied "per mile" I don't see why the mileage surcharge cannot be applied that way also. Clearly a $65 charge for travelling half a mile up the road is excessive. Finally, they estimated my move based on the list I gave them at 7 to 7.5 hours, at a total cost of $1,100 before voucher discount, so after the discount around $830 in total. In the end they were too booked up to be able to carry out my move at the time I needed - my close date was Nov 15 and so I had requested Nov 16 for the move but no free slots were available. They told me they had Nov 14 so I tried to change my close date to Nov 12, and when I had confirmation 2 days later they were booked up on Nov 14 too and scheduling into Dec. All in all I was a little disillusioned by what I thought was going to be a great deal, but really didn't turn out to be as good as deal as I expected. It felt a little bait and switch with the surcharges and what I felt seemed a longer than needed amount of time. I think the Big Deal should spell out in greater detail when there are other charges no included in the deal price that are unavoidable.

Movers arrived on time at MD location and had truck loaded in under two hours. I moved from 3 bedroom apartment and went into a three level townhouse in VA. Miles were already calculated when I initially purchased package. I purchased a 5 man team and everything went smoothly. No items were broken and the crew worked very fast. They even offered to grab little things that I didn't have packed up in boxes which I thought was very nice. Crew was very experieneced and had everything ready to go before I knew it. Once we got to destination in VA everything was unloaded quickly and they had all items in all the rooms where we wanted. Will be using them again!

The person setting up the appointment was very responsive. We reserved the earliest date they had available but when someone canceled, they called to let us know that appointment was available. The crew was a little take getting there because of an issue with the truck but they did call to let us know they were running late. When they got to the house, they got right to business coordinating the order to load things in and got it done. We had a lot of awkward, very heave furniture to move and they were able to do it in very nearly the 4 hours that's I'd purchased with the Angie's List deal. It ran maybe half an hour longer which was reasonable. They provided a list of different types of furniture (mattresses, coaches, dressers, etc) and we were asked to fill out the number of each type of item we were moving They use this list to provide you with a quote. Don't worry, you are only charged for the time you actually use and not was the quote says. It's just there to give you an idea of how long they anticipate the move will take. The guys worked hard the whole time and I would definitely hire then again for a future move or recommend them to a friend.

I had the Angie's List special, $499 for 4 men and a truck for 4 hours. The process of scheduling the date was very easy and Amanda was very responsive whenever I had a question. They were late on the day of the move, but I was informed by phone prior to the agreed time that they were caught in traffic and would not arrive on time. The office kept updating me and in the end they were maybe 40 min late, not a big deal. It was a crew of 4 and they worked well together, but I thought that they were not very efficient. They loaded small things first and then when the big things had to be loaded there was no space, so they had to remove some things, which caused about an hour delay. They also kept taking things I had already said were not supposed to be taken - but I would tell one of the men and the others would then see it and take it. I had to go to the truck a couple times to retrieve things that I had clearly said were supposed to stay. At one point, they even took my own purse, which was sitting on the floor next to the kitchen. A small bookcase was damaged and they took it to be fixed and sent it back about 10 days later. There was more damage that was done that I didn't notice on the day, but nothing major. Scratches mainly. My bed was also not well reassembled and it made a lot of noise until we fixed it ourselves. it was also a very hot day and they were sweating profusely. One of the guys kept running his hand on the white walls, which drove me crazy. The furniture was also stained with sweat, but again, it was a very hot day. In the end, I think you get what you pay for. I had had a different company before that I was really happy about, but they were asking more than twice the price. So in the end, it was ok and a good value for the money. Oh, and I referred the company to a friend and got 5% back, so that was a nice touch.

AWFUL! I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start with them being 2 hours late. The move was scheduled with the crew to arrive between 9-10. One of the guys showed up on time, he seemed pleasant and said he was going to get a drink at CVS while he waited for the rest. I got a call to say there was an issue with the truck and they would be on their way as soon as they could get a new one. Not a huge deal, however, I was concerned because we had reserved the loading dock in our new building only until 2, when another tenant had reserved it. Finally around 11:45, the guys showed up. By this time I was ready to get going, so I started taking boxes to the truck MYSELF. There was one older guy who was in charge and he was busy in the apartment planning what was going to be moved out first and taking some kind of half-assed inventory. When I got to the truck with my boxes, there were 3 guys sitting in the truck. I asked them what they were doing and they said they didn't know how to get into my building because it had so many key card security gates. They said they were waiting...for what, I'm not sure, but if I hadn't come down, I'm not sure how long it would have been. What bothered me was their total LACK of MOTIVATION to get into the building. I put some trash cans in front of the gates and voila, access to the building! The move seemed to be going fine, except for some complaining that our hallway was so long. I will tell you, when I moved into that building, I had two 50 something, scrawny guys that were amazing! This move had twice the guys that were twice the size. About 2.5 hours went by and there was one arm chair and one mirror left, so I told them I was leaving and would see them at the new place. Not even exaggerating, they arrived an hour later and it was a 2 mile trip. I called their office manager, who was stand-offish and always seemed to have an excuse for them, and told me they were having trouble because there was an apartment party on my floor and it was tying up the elevator. They only had to come back down one more time. Maybe I should have grabbed that too on my way out and taken it for them? She also said they were securing everything in the back. Does that take an hour?? What I didn't tell Amanada, the office manager, was that when I left, I went to my neighbors to return their vacuum and ended up staying for about a half hour, when I drove by the guys, they were sitting in the truck! By this point when I was at my condo just standing around, waiting, I got angry! They finally arrived and while bringing the first piece of furniture in, one of the guys banged it into our newly painted walls, a paint job that cost $2,200 the day before. There were no marks left, but really made me cringe. My dining room table was finally coming down the hall without a pad to protect it (there was one on it when it was in the truck and any professional mover would have left it on). The guys also left the legs on the table and tried about half a dozen times to get it in the door before getting their tools to take the legs off. When the table finally made its way in, I noticed some bad scratches and pointed it out to them. They could not have cared less and told their manager that it was smudges when I called her to complain. I have since noticed similar scratches on my dresser as well. Their manager told me to send in pictures. Why? I have no idea because they didn't ever bring it up when they called to let us know our picture was ready to be delivered after having the glass replaced (yes, another ooops by the crew). Speaking of the crew, they just seemed like they couldn't wait until it was over. Not that anyone enjoys moving, but they seemed just miserable. One thing I can say is that the manager started the timer about an hour after the guys actually arrived to make up for them being so late, however, there is no reason why this move should have taken so long with 4 guys and an 800 sq. ft. apartment. It was over 6 hours total all said an done, they did not pack boxes or anything like that, just pure moving. They did also take the broken picture to the framer and pay for it, but that is the bare minimum. All day I had been wishing I had my two movers from Paxton that moved me here back in February, they were great! I wouldn't recommend Motivational Movers to anyone...well, unless you want a moving company that doesn't give a rat's a** about your stuff or being efficient. I also feel that the coupon "deal" is not worth it because they just dawdle around and end up making you pay extra anyways. They charged me an additional $93 after all of this. I paid it because I never wanted to have to deal with any of them again!

It went great! Awesome experience, great crew, professional, timely, focused on the task while still being friendly, and very careful with all items. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

The move went very well. No problems at all from beginning to end, loading to unloading.

They arrived late, but were professional and did a good job. There was one minor snag where they accidentally pulled up a baseboard on the move, but it was a quick fix. The gentlemen doing the move were pleasant, and the company was very responsive. I would use them again.

They did a great job! They were very respectful and sincere. Above all, they were friendly and cheerful which made the move so much easier. We'd recommend them without any hesitation! Keep up the good work!

I took the offer of 5 people for 4 hours for about $550 or so. I had a packed two bedroom apartment that I was moving to a 4 bedroom house. I had moved most of the small things myself but still had a bunch left. These guys arrived on time and worked like you cannot believe. There was no loitering or drawing things out to try and get more fees. They hustled and were extremely respectful of me, my family and our things. It was a great experience. I gave them a small bonus and pizza and as much caprisun as they could handle.

movers waited with me for "closing" to finish. Closing fell thru that day and movers ended up moving to a storage unit. no arguments or complaining.

We had never hired movers before, and we went with Motivational Movers based on their positive ratings and the coupons they were offering on AL. A crew of two supervisors and four movers showed up promptly at about 9 AM and finished about 2 PM. They were friendly and polite and we were very satisfied with the work. We had a big heavy sofabed that we wanted to put downstairs, but it wouldn't fit around the banister of the staircase; we said that we could keep the sofa on the main level, but they volunteered to unscrew the banister (and screw it back in afterward), which we appreciated. The money we paid was definitely worth it to not have to move everything ourselves. We would have no problem hiring Motivational Movers again for our next move.

Great, friendly, professional service!

The guys were half hour late because of traffic, but once they arrived, they started right away. There were 4 guys and they worked really well together. They were all very friendly and nice. I felt so sorry for them having to carry all my furniture and boxes three flights of stairs at my new place, but again, they worked so well together. They were like a tag team:-). All my stuff arrived and nothing was broken. Also, Amanda was very friendly and helpful, answering all my questions and I had a LOT of questions! I would recommend Motivational Movers and would use them again, though I hope I don't ever have to:-). I hate moving!

Went very well. Just make sure you have enough work to keep them busy--they are very fast, and very areful.

Overall they are a great moving company to work with!! They were accurate with their estimate and did not try to nickel and dime me with extra's and add-ons. I am recommending the company for use by a friend for their upcoming move.

The movers were great! First of all, the day was one of the first of a week-long record-breaking heat wave. We hired five guys for four hours. They estimated the move to take 6-7 hours, but in the end it took 5 hours. In 103 degree weather, I thought that was pretty good! The men worked hard and they worked as fast as could be expected in the heat. We purchased the coupon for 5 movers for 4 hours for $530 and were charged the regular $150 rate for the extra hour. In the end, with the coupon, extra hour and tip we ended up spending less than $800 for the move. The movers were friendly and did a good job. I would definitely recommend them.

I paid deposit for amount off moving from agnies list for moving a van full of new furniture and breakable pictures and packed boxes from metro Dc area to Delaware beach house. They came to my house in advance to give me an estimate based on driving miles, time and amount of stuff ( weight). the estimate was about 600 total. However, the acutal charge came in $100 under the estimate-- they were fast ( arrived before me!) and unloaded quickly and did not break a thing. I loved Malhiki and his co worker. they were personable, considerate, patient with my anxiety, affable and hard workers. Malhiki told me his mother named the business because he is so motivated. I RECOMMEND THEM HIGHLY AND WOULD USE AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT. The only downside was they arrived about an hour late due to traffic --but it WAs Memorial day weekend!

We moved from a 3-bedroom town home to a single family home. It was a local move. The motivational movers crew was simply outstanding throughout the moving process. They arrived at the given time. Without wasting even a single minute, they got to work. They were extremely careful while moving the furniture and other items. This was the smoothest move we have had so far. We have already recommended them to our friends who were looking for a reliable moving company. They definitely do deserve the service award even this year!

Motivational Movers could have been a little bit better. I would have liked if they were more careful. Such as, tracking inside my home and caution with the walls. The quality was good. The price was good. I would use them again in the future.

I would give them an A+ if I could. I have moved 10 times during the past 20 years and have used mostly full service companies. Motivational Movers was hands down the best moving company I have ever had. Every aspect of interaction with them was completely professional and they handled all issues that came up perfectly. Let's start with the front office/dispatch. Amanda is a pleasure to work with. She was extremely helpful in scheduling the move, helping with the estimation, and then rescheduling the move for us on very short notice when our house closing slipped by a few days. All communications by phone or email were courteous and prompt. When the "Race for the Cure" caused the moving truck to be 10 minutes late, dispatch called us (we didn't have to call them) to let us know the problem and the new arrival time. The moving crew was also extremely competent, hard working, and professional. We had grossly underestimated the number of boxes that needed carrying from the 3rd floor walk up - no problem. We had forgotten about the storage area in the building - no problem. The four man crew worked wasted no time. They moved over 100 boxes and enough furniture to overfill a 2BR/2Ba condo (a 3rd floor walk-up) across town in around 6 hours. And despite working with 3 flights of tight stairs and narrow hallways, they caused no damage to the condo, the condo building, our new house, any of the furniture, or any of the items being moved. I wouldn't consider using another company in DC.

When I contacted the company to get clarification on how their coupon special would work, I found the owner very professional and friendly. He explained in detail and answered all questions I had. While he was professional, the team he arrived with left a lot to be desired. They arrived 2 hours later than scheduled. Traffic in the DC area and associated suburbs in the mornings is notoriously bad and since I had a change of plans regarding where the furniture was going to be moved to, I used that time to go book & pay for my storage unit. When they finally arrived, the owner looked over the job and barked out some instructions to his team. He went downstairs and sat in his vehicle. I had booked a 4 person team since we were coming out of a third floor unit in a building with no elevators. They started off well but once the owner left the location, the work slowed to a snail's pace. One guy stayed in the unit bringing items to the front door. Another took those down and I'm not sure what the other two were doing, I assume loading onto the truck. It just seemed that it would be more efficient if more than one person was moving items out of the condo simultaneously as they had been doing when the owner was around. At some point the owner showed back up, came upstairs and started talking down to me as though I was stupid, telling me that the time I had paid for was quickly going and the unit was not empty yet, as though this was somehow my fault. We were busy packing up my kitchen but what we were packing up had no impact on how slow the move was going. It wasn't because my kitchen was not fully packed up, and I pointed that out to him. There were so many other items already boxed up and ready to go as well as furniture that his movers had not yet touched because while he was gone or out of their sight, the work had grounded almost to a halt. Anyway, they finally finished loading the truck and followed us over to the storage unit less than 2 miles away. I was so confident this part of the move would go faster. WRONG. The movers took forever to unload and at some points, one of the youngmen (don't remember his name I do remember he wore locs) was nodding off as he stood holding a piece of furniture while two others were navigating placement of something else in the storage unit and the fourth was on the truck waiting to hand something else off to one of them. Eventually, they finished and the owner came to my car to tell me they had gone over the time I paid for and asked for additional payment. I was so annoyed! How did he feel comfortable charging me more because his guys were working so slow? Rather than argue, I paid what he asked for and decided not to tip or rebook them for moving again.
