No commentary, just including actual text of email exchange: We believe it is extremely important for a customer to be comfortable with and confident in the service they are being provided with. Perhaps it would be best for you if you did refund your coupon purchase with Angie's List and find a provider that has the policies, procedures, and rates you are looking for. Please Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions. We are happy to answer them for you. ****I'm very perplexed at this approach to moving. I've hired movers many, many times over the years, and I have never been told they will only move items that were on the estimate. Nor have I ever heard that if I said stop, we've used up enough hours, that they would insist on continuing to move everything on the estimate. And yes fuel/mileage were in the fine print, but I assumed they would be the kind of reasonable charges one expects when one rents a moving truck. Perhaps I should refund the Angie's List purchase and use a more traditional service.*** Unfortunately, I can not schedule your service at only 4 hours as it is standard policy not to schedule partial services. This can often cause alot of confusion during a service. You can send us an adjusted item list, indicating only the items you would want us to move for you and we will be happy to provide you with an updated time and cost estimate. Please note that the team will be contracted to move only the items on the item list you provide. I apologize if you feel our fuel and mileage fees are excessive, they are standard charges for all services, and are outlined in the fine print of the coupon purchased from Angie's List. Please contact me in order to either provide an updated item list for your service, or to confirm that you accept the original estimate and secure your service date. Also, just a quick reminder, we do only charge for the time that is used and not the time that is estimated. ***Thanks, then I think I'll stick with the Thursday! I went online and filled out the estimate. However, I would like 4 hours of work and no more. If they can't get every box in 4 hours, I'll deal with that myself. The mileage/fuel are excessive for a seven mile move. Thanks!***Service: T4 (4 member move team)Rate: $135.00/hr Minimum service: 4 hrsMileage Fee: $65.00 ($65.00 for up to 25 miles, $0.79 per mile over 25)Fuel Surcharge: $31.60Estimated time: 6 hrs to 6.5 hrsEstimated cost: $906.60 to $974.10* This estimate is based strictly on the item list provided on your estimate information form. Any additional items or hindrance will cause an increase in service time which will increase the final cost. *Estimated costs do not reflect the use of any coupons or discounts. **Please note: Any services scheduled on Sundays will increase the hourly rate for the service by $10.00/hr. Any services scheduled on a holidays will increase the hourly rate for the service by $15.00/hr. Standard service policy All of our services include free furniture padding. All furniture is covered in standard quilted furniture padding, extra protection is available for purchase, such as; plastic shrink wrap, boxes, bubble wrap, seat and mattress covers. All items that we disassemble will be reassemble by your service team. We do not take responsibility for any item disassembled, reassembled, moved, or packed by the customer. Your estimate was based on the following factors: 1.) The size and amount of items indicated on your estimate information form. 2.) The stairs at both of your residences. Larger items can sometimes be difficult to maneuver up or down stairways slowing the team a bit. 3.) The travel time and distance between your two residences. Please note that a loaded box truck moves slower than a car. 4.) The hil at your move out residence. Carrying items up a steep incline will slow the team a bit. The more smaller items such as toys and boxes to be carried up the hill there are to be hand carried up the hill the more time it takes. 5.) The disassembling and reassembling of the 3 beds. On average it takes 10 to 15 minutes to disassemble 1 pop n pull bed , and 15 to 20 minutes if tools are required. Bunk beds can take a bit more time as they tend to be more complex. Remember, we only bill for time used not the time estimated. We do have a few tips that may help you to save on time: if you are making a trip to your new residence take a couple of small boxes or items along with you, disassemble the beds, and place all boxes and other small items to be moved by the movers on the main level, or by the door or closest room to the door. These items will be moved first and this prevents having to search the house to make sure we have them all before loading furniture. We have had customers in the past who have saved up to 2 hours of time by using these time saving tips! The date you requested Thursday, April 25, 2013 is currently open. Once you receive your estimate you must contact us by phone or email to confirm that you accept the estimate and confirm the date you are requesting. Thank you for considering our bid, we hope to be able to serve you.*** Your service can be scheduled for any day of the week that works for you. We do have rate increases for Sunday services ($10.00/hour) and for services scheduled on federal holidays ($15.00/hour). These rate increases would not be covered by the coupon. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions, I am happy to answer them for you. ***Hi quick question...I have a vague memory that the move needs to be done on a weekday for this coupon, not a weekend, is that correct?*** Thank you for your interest in Motivational Movers, LLC! I am happy to help you towards getting your moving services scheduled. At this time, we do have availability for the date you are requesting Thursday, April 25, 2013, however, we do require that all of our customers complete our online estimate information form and receive a time and cost estimate for their moving services before we can confirm a service date. I do see that you have purchased our Angie's List Big Deal, $270 for 4 movers and a truck for 4 hours. This coupon is a discount off of the first 4 hours of your moving service and can be applied as a payment towards your bill once your services have been booked. It does not guarantee that your service is completed in the 4 hours covered by the coupon, and the coupon does not cover the Mileage fee and Fuel Surcharge that would be applied to your service. We believe an informed customer is a satisfied customer and nothing is more satisfying than having a complete understanding of your purchase. Please ask as many questions as you can think of. We are happy to answer them!!
Description of Work: Attempted to use an Angie's List Big Deal, $270 for 4 movers and a truck for 4 hours. They came back with a quote for well over $900 and the coupon would be treated as a discount from this. This was much higher than other companies were quoting, largely due to nearly $100 in mileage/fuel surcharges for a 12 mile move. Also, their policy is to move exactly what you put in the estimate form, regardless of whether you end up with more items or whether you have opted to leave some behind due to time being used up. I only wanted the 4 hours of work from the Big Deal, which I'm certain would be sufficient anyway. I felt the hidden fees and odd policies were such that I should just go with the kind of moving companies I'm used to dealing with and not be fooled by the Big Deal marketing.

I was told that no one has ever filled up a truck of this size with things from a 1 bedroom (800 sq ft.) apartment. I had four guys moving now stop for 8 yours and they guys were great. They really went the extra mile to make sure that I was pleased. They attempted to take a door off in order to get a desk that I had into a bedroom that I was going to use as an office. Unfortunately this did not work, but they tried. I was very pleased and if I ever need these guys again I will not hesitate to reach out.

Motivational Movers gave me a good estimate. They called a day before to confirm, they showed on-time and at the right location, that was good. They are hard-working and did everything perfectly. The job was difficult, I moved into an old-fashioned apartment that's up three flights of stairs. The bill was certainly fair, we didn't go over the bill, in fact, it was $75 under what the total estimate had been. And I was pleased that they had these five movers that do everything and I think it was in five hours. They did everything perfectly, I gave each of them a $20 tip, because they did a hard job and they did not stop. They kept moving, moving and moving the whole time. Motivational Movers was everything one could have expected and more and they were real nice too.

Two of the three regular crew were stellar. Nice, conscientious and hard-working. I think they had a new person who wasn't trained yet so he wasn't proactive and had to be told what to do all the time. They were very careful in my new house and were a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: This was a great deal. It did not cover extra for Sunday service of course, but truly was 3 men and a truck for 4 hours for $230 which was half price. The overall service was estimated to take longer than four hours but I moved a lot of fragile items and boxes the day before, so the work was completed in about 4 hours.

I purchased a coupon on Angie's List for Motivational Movers to provide the services of 5 movers and a truck for 4 hours. I knew that the move would require @ 8 hours to complete but the coupon saved me $165 overall. On the day of the move, the crew showed up earlier than expected (a good thing) and in addition to the 5 movers there was a supervisor and a supervisor in training. We ended up with a crew of 7 for the price of 5. The team worked lightening fast, filling the 24' truck in @ 2 hours. They then drove the truck to our new residence, unloaded everything into the garage and split the team in two, one group stayed at the new residence to place everything that had just been unloaded and the other group went back to collect the rest from the old house. The entire job took a full 8 hours. The crew was very carefull with our stuff and worked VERY hard. They never used a hand truck or a cart - everything (including our massive china cabinet) was carried by hand. They disassembled all of the beds and large furniture pieces and put them all back together before leaving. There was no damage worth noting.

The move went well and they did so an a small time contraint that I had. They arrived timely and followed me to the other location. They moved the couch from my friends house and treated her home with care. They moved the couch into my basement which was very difficult but they completed the task without any damage to my door way or walls. The place the furniture in place until I was satisfied and with care.

Motivational Movers were the best moving company I've ever used. My contract specified 4 movers and a truck so I was pleasantly surprised to find 5 movers - one of whom was the supervisor. They phoned when they said they would and showed up exactly on time. They were very careful with all of my parent's goods on both ends. They also were more than willing to adjust the locations where the furniture was placed - even after several moves. My parents moved into a retirement home where movers must be very careful to keep everything out of the hallways. I mentioned it to them and they already knew this. Because of this excellent move, I've already given their information to several friends.
Description of Work: My parents were moving from one apartment to another and we needed to find a mover we could trust. Motivational Movers advertised a discounted move on Angie's List so we decided to use them.

They were great and very responsive. Nice crew! The only issue is there was a bad scratch in the floor discovered after they left, from the bedframes. There was also 2 scratches on our dining room table that I pointed out to them before they left. The supervisor was terrific but needed to direct some of the team to be more careful. They came on time and worked diligently to finish the work. They worked hard and were good guys.

TERRIBLE, COULD NOT BE WORSE!
Description of Work: HAVING THEM MOVE FOR ME HAS TO BE ONE OF THE WORSE EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE. DURING THE MOVE THEY SCUFFED MY WALLS AND DAMAGED SOME FURNITURE BUT I WOULD HAVE LET THAT SLIDE HAD I NOT LOOKED FOR MY GIRL FRIENDS $8500 ENGAGEMENT RING AND REALIZE IT WAS STOLEN FROM MY FILE CABINET. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT NO ONE USE THEM BECAUSE CLEARLY THEY DO NOT HAVE PROPER BACKGROUND CHECKS AND THEY ALLOW THIEVES TO WORK FOR THEM. I REALIZED MY RING WAS GONE AT 2 AM THIS MORNING SO I HAVE YET TO CONTACT THE COMPANY SO IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THEY HANDLE THIS. IF YOUR CURIOUS YES THEY DID HAVE AN OPERATIONS MANAGER BUT HE SPENT MUCH OF THE TIME IN THE TRUCK OR OUT OF SIGHT ALLOWING THE OTHER MOVER FREE RAIN AND ACCESS TO MY BELONGINGS. YOU WANT TO THINK THAT WHEN YOU HIRE MOVERS THEY WILL BE PROFESSIONAL AND THEY WILL BE THE LAST TO STEAL FROM A CUSTOMER BECAUSE THEIR BUSINESS IS BASED ON TRUST. I HAVE NO TRUST IN THIS COMPANY.

The four movers showed up on time. Three were simply movers (muscle) with what seemed like little experience, but all were friendly. There was one foreman who obviously knew how to move furniture. Unfortunately, the foreman was not always right with the other three and while moving a large refrigerator, the foreman was outside the house (either on the phone or eating) and not watching. The other movers then scraped the fridge on the corner of another table and damaged the stainless steel doors. This is irreparable. When I called the company to inquire, I got laughed at and was told that all four of the workmen claimed my husband was helping to carry the refrigerator. This was a lie. Why would I hire a company to move us, if we were going to help carry things? I was told that it was the word of the company's workers against us. I was not offered any solution to this problem except to say that the company would do nothing. Now I am stuck with a brand new $2000+ refrigerator with a crease and a dent down the front. I am very disappointed with the way that the company handled this situation and the way I was treated and the lies that were told. Don't trust this company. If you choose to gamble with them, be sure to have more witnesses to the entire move than they have workmen.
Description of Work: Four workmen were hired to move large furniture and appliances from one home to another, less than 1/4 mile apart. They were hired simply for the very large heavy items like appliances, dressers and antiques.

Response from Motivational Movers
Summary On January 23, 2013 team 3 consisting of a T3 service and a supervisor arrived at the service location, met with the customer, completed their initial walk through, and went over the contract and rates with the customer. As the service team started to prepare the furniture for the relocation, the customer left the scene leaving her spouse with the movers. Her spouse then took it upon himself to orchestrate and supervise the entire moving process from the start. That evening the customer called the office and issued a complaint for a damaged refrigerator. At which time the investigation process was started, which would consist of interviewing all parties involved, through either phone, written statement, or person to person meetings, which ever means was most expedited. During this process the following facts were used in the determination of this case. Customer claims that the move team carried the refrigerator through a garage door into the home. The team indicated that it was the spouses idea to use this door, which the team advised the spouse that due to a counter built on a wall on one side of the door and a shelf built on a wall on the opposite site of the door that it was not a good idea to use that doorway because of the risk of damage. The spouse insisted. The team indicates that the spouse took the top end of the refrigerator and asked a team member to assist him by taking the bottom end. After several attempts to fit it through the narrow opening that with the table top attached to the wall rubbing against the refrigerator door, damage had been caused. The team indicated that with all members of the team present the refrigerator was put into place and the spouse rubbed his hand over the dent and said, “Damn! I really dinged this. Don’t worry about it.” (Service start time: 10:00am – Service end time: 3:15pm) While interviewing the customer and her spouse we received the following statements. Customer (called at 5:45pm): Her spouse had just noticed and pointed out that there was damage to the door of the refrigerator. She was very satisfied with the service and the move until her spouse pointed out the damage. Spouse: “The supervisor was not there, he was off doing something else. The refrigerator was the 1 thing I didn’t bother helping with.” Investigator: The crew states they were all present when you made the statement, “Damn! I really dinged this Don’t worry about it.” Spouse: “I don’t remember saying that, but if I did I would definitely have meant only until after everything else was finished, we still had a lot of work to do. The damage to the door looked much worse once they were gone and the lights were shining on it.” Customer: “Either way, I expect your company to replace or repair my refrigerator.” Investigator: “Ma’am we do not accept any responsibility for items that are moved by the customer, nor would our insurance company approve any claim that the customer participated in or caused.” Customer: “My husband couldn’t have helped move anything because he recently injured his back. Why would we hire movers if my husband and I could do it ourselves? It was the 2 big guys (Supervisor and laborer).” Investigator: “Then you witnessed the damage occurring to the refrigerator?” Customer: “No, no one was there aside from my husband and the crew. He told me it was the two big guys.” Investigator: “We will review the information from all sides and get back to you with a decision.” Customer (called back): Said, “My mother was there and witnessed the entire thing.” Investigator (posed question to team): Team indicates that the refrigerator was the last piece moved into the house, the job ended directly after and no one was there besides the team and the customers spouse. (Teams statements match spouse as to who was present.) Conclusion Although the customers claim that the husband could not assist due to a current injury, the spouse admits he did assist, claiming the one damaged item was the only item he did not assist with. With the entire team reporting that the spouse acknowledged the damage to the door at which time he made the statement, “Damn! I really dinged this. Don’t worry about it.”, the customer claims he did not notice until later in the evening. With the spouse admitting no one was present but him and the team the customer claims that her mother was there to witness. The spouse claims the supervisor (one of the only 2 large team members) was not present to witness the damage, the customer claims that the spouse indicated that the supervisor and the other large team member moved the item through the doorway. It appears that the spouse is attempting to cover up his liability and place the responsibility on the team. Determination The statements listed are in chronological order in which they were made by the parties that made them. Based on our company policy listed below: (This policy is attached to all estimates and confirmation statements) “All of our services include free furniture padding. All furniture is covered in standard quilted furniture padding extra protection is available for purchase, such as; plastic shrink wrap, boxes, bubble wrap, seat and mattress covers. All items that we disassemble will be reassemble by your service team. We do not take responsibility for any item disassembled, reassembled, moved, or packed by the customers.” Based on the inconsistencies and contradictions in the spouses statements and the customer filing the complaint who was not a witness of, this claim has been denied.

Polite and hardworking but inexperienced, resulting in several scratches that had to be repaired.
Description of Work: A friend and neighbor is downsizing and moving out of state; she gave us her dining room furniture and most of her living room furniture. She lives on the same street. We had to have a good deal of our furniture moved to the garage or other rooms, some of our friend's furniture moved into her garage, and her other furniture moved to our house. The team was on time, polite and sociable, and very helpful, suggesting that we get our neighbor's furniture first so that she would not have to wait around for our part of the move. Very thoughtful! The company provided three movers and a supervisor. Apparently, all were somewhat new to their jobs. They didn't really seem to know how to move furniture around doorways, and did not always seem to be aware of the potential for damage to fine finishes, such as placing tall-backed chairs upside down in pairs, exposing the upper back to scratches. They also managed to scratch the bottom of the hutch in three places when they dragged the upper portion into place. I think they tried hard to do a good job, but lacked the training to insure a damage-free move.

On January 31st we received an Angie's List Big Deal offer from Motivational Movers of $230 for 3 movers and a truck for 4 hours. The offer strongly recommended to call Motivational Movers directly to ensure that they could accomodate the date requested prior to purchasing the offer. I called Motivational Movers several times but each time I got voice mail. On the fourth attempt I left a message asking for them to call me back and that I wanted to take advantage of tthe Big Deal offer. This was approximately 4:30 on the 31st and the offer expired 23:59 on the same day. I did not receive a call back and so I called again on February 1st and after a couple of attempts I was able to get through to speak to someone. We discussed the move and the date of February 15th, they were fully booked for that date but could do the 13th but the best date with availability as the 14th. I agreed to the 14th and, as directed, submitted the move details via the website. Here is the response that we received on Saturday 2nd February. Thank you for your interest in Motivational Movers, LLC. We did receive your online estimate information form, however because there was no indication of the amount of flights of stairs at the move in residence, we are unable to complete your estimate. I do apologize for the delay in returning your phone call as you had mentioned on your form. We are an extremely busy company and we return phone calls in the order they were received. At this time, the dates you requested on your estimate information form February 13 or 14, 2013 are completely booked up and we are now booking in to mid to late March 2013. If you would still like us to provide you with a time and cost estimate please provide us with correct information regarding the amount of flight of stairs at your move in residence and we will email you your estimate within 24 to 48 hours. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I am happy to answer them for you. I did provide all of my contact details, a quick phone call would have resolved the issue with the flights of stairs(3). I may have misconstued this whole thing but it seems that the Angie's List Big Deal promotion has been rescinded as the only offer here is to provide a time and materials estimate for a date 30+ days beyond when we need the service. Neither of which will work for us. Motivational Movers have excellent ratings on Angie's list and I am sure provide a great service, however in this instance it hasn't worked out for us and we need to now go elsewhere to get the move done.

This was during the summer when there was a power outage. The power to our elevator gave out and we were basically screwed. However they still accomodated us and took care of us on their next available moving date at no extra cost. The move went smooth and it only took 1 trip from Arlington, VA to Lorton,VA. I highly recommend them!

The guys arrived relatively on time; in fact we were hoping they'd come a little later than they did but they arrived pretty close to the start time. There was one "Supervisor" guy and two younger guys. Overall, they did a good job. My only worry from the start was that they would purposely go slow in order to drag out the time and get us to pay more. In general, they did not do this, however, I definitely had to be aggressive about making sure they stayed on task and were moving as quickly as I could politely get them to do. Not a huge sense of urgency, and when the supervisor first came into the apartment and saw how far it was to the elevator, he immediately started saying how it was going to be tight to fit into the four hours. So, we agreed to all do our best and then assess when we started to get in the "danger zone" of going over. I did not want to pay too much more over what the coupon was. So, everything was going fairly well while my husband and I were finishing up some of the small stuff in the apartment. We had already moved a lot of the small stuff ourselves and really just needed help with the furniture and the boxes. Then I noticed the supervisor was not coming back and forth to the apartment anymore, only the two younger guys. AND they were not using the dollys/hand trucks, etc. the most effective way so I had to go and get the grocery cart from the dumpster area to speed things up! The two younger guys told me that the supervisor was watching/organizing the truck. Well, since I was 6 months pregnant, it seemed watching the truck was something I could easily do, especially since I could do little else to help with the move. So, I went to the truck and offered to watch the stuff so he could move with the other guys (seems logical right?). Anyway, he reluctantly agreed but I'm not sure he really contributed much back at the apartment, etc. Towards the end, they had gotten almost everything out, and the supervisor warned me of the time (and I was watching the clock too) and so we agreed that we were satisfied with what they had moved so far and we should get going to the new house. Once they arrived there, they quickly moved everything inside (again the supervisor stayed in the truck and "supervised"/moved things from the back of the truck to the front). This was slightly annoying but the job got done in almost 4 hours (I think we went over by an hour) and nothing was broken or damaged (at least not severely or really worth noting). So, yes, I would use this company again for a small move, and I think my expectation of how it was going to go was pretty much right on. My advice for those using the service - expect to go over the time slightly, but be up front with the "supervisor" about what you want to accomplish in that time, and then stick to it. We're all trying to save money in this economy so hopefully there is some understanding and patience with this. Good job overall.
Description of Work: We got the coupon for 3 guys, a truck, and 4 hours of moving for $230 - with the expectation that if we went over the time, we would pay an hourly rate (plus the add'l charge of mileage and gas, etc.) but we weren't going far (from Alexandria to Falls Church, VA). Our move out of a 727 sq foot, 1 BR 1 BA condo, was expected to take about 4 hours in my opinion (although the estimate was for more like 5 hours).

Everything was very professional. The phone call I made was refreshing, as I spoke to someone who had energy and politeness, and was able to get me a direct quote. That quote led me to go ahead and request a date, and they gave me several to choose from, which was very nice. Everything was easy to do, and there weren't any hidden costs. The 2 men and Supervisor arrived promptly and immediately began working, keeping well within the 3 hour minimum, and also had positive attitudes, with the ability to laugh and make jokes - even under the strain of some of the heavy furniture! I would definitely use them again, and plan on letting my friends know of their service. EXCELLENT!
Description of Work: I needed assistance downsizing a storage unit from a 10x30 to a 10x15, within the same facility.
