I called about a week prior to setting an appointment and at the time, I spoke to their pleasant call taker. I asked to be the first or last appointment of the day. She explained that it would be the first appointment of the day between 9AM and 10AM. On the day of the appointment, I waited and eventually called the business around 10:30AM and they said the technician was on the way back to the shop and I would be the third customer after that. By 12:30PM, they had still not shown up, so I called to cancel the appointment since I had another appointment.
Description of Work: They were hired to do a yearly heat pump check up.

He came out few days after I purchased the "Big Deal" and the service turned out good. The guy that came out was very good, personable and he solved the problem very quickly. I did pay him extra for extra service that he provided.

Called at 8:30 AM on a Friday because the gas valves on my furnace were not opening. A technician was at my house an hour later, and he diagnosed and resolved the problem in about 30 minutes. Total cost was only $39 with Angie's List coupon. I have used Blue Dot in the past and will continue to use them in the future.

They stated the system was not wired properly. I still had problems and I consulted another company who fixed the problem. So I will not use Blue Dot again. They also tried to sell me a service contract.

I called BLUE DOT for an understanding of which of the visable coupons I should purchase for the AC problem (not blowing out air) I was having. It was suggested that I purchase the $50 coupon for $100 worth of repairs but had to purchase the couopon before shceduling. I purchased the coupon, called back to schedule, but was then told by a second lady that there was a $82 diagnostic fee. This was not on the coupon,nor was it mentioned on the original conversation. I was then advised of another coupon on AL that I SHOULD have purchased and that was a $39 coupon (not visable on first screen) for diagnostics. There was a vast miscommunication, and in addtion, all fees outside the $50 need to be spelled out. There was no "fine print" showing the disgnostic fee. I rated this a D as opposed to an F because I did not actually get service from them.

My A/C unit didn't respond to my thermostat so only the furnace fan was doing its work. After two hours of probing around with a multimeter, I discovered one of the 24V wires outside lost voltage when it was connected to another wire going through a BGE box. Long story short, with my limited knowledge, I had no choice but to call up an HVAC company to look into the matter. With lots of positive reviews and AL's coupon for Blue Dot, I decided to give the company a try. The technician named John arrived was polite, professional, respectful, and more importantly patient enough to answer all the technical questions I had for him. After some diagnostic, John initially claimed the lost voltage was due to a wire disconnected somewhere between the furnace and outside. Since I only had 30 mins for diagnostic, so to save him time (and myself some money), I had to convince him that another wire that was connected to that 24V wire was shorting it. To be fair, the reason I knew better was because I spent over two hours of measuring around inside and out before calling for help. After we narrowed down the problem, John concluded that I had a shorted contactor that needed to be replaced. He took the time to explain the advantages of a SureSwitch contactor over a conventional one and I was convinced to go for the more expensive option. The price was not cheap but overall I was very happy with the service and John's professionalism.

Tech was a nice fellow, very polite and interested in helping us by giving suggestions about possible, low-cost solutions for our crappy A/C system. For us, when the A/C compressor unit outside would come on, our circuit breaker kept turing off. I should mention that my husband and I hate our house and it has been a bit of a money pit; our whole system (ducting, central unit, compressor, design, equipment, EVERYTHING) is old and in really bad shape, the home's previous owner did a poor "diy" job on the HVAC and even used scrap ducting (which would be fine except that there are huge holes in it cover with duct tape). I'm amazed it made it this long, so with that being said we just wanted to know what the problem is and how much it'd cost to fix before we went for the quick, cheap ($500 hahaha) route of turning the central system off and getting a window unit in the event that the fix would be cheaper than the window unit......... My husband bought the coupon from A.L. on a Saturday and an answering service picked up when we called. They advised us they'd probably be able to make it on Monday (Great for us!). They were able to come on Monday, but we didn't get a call in the morning to schedule, the driver called when 30 minutes away but it was no biggie. Tech was friendly and over all helpful but MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT is that we still don't know exactly what the problem is. The diagnosis was that the compressor unit outside was shot and that since our system is so jacked up anyway it didn't make any sense to replace just that component as it'd wind-up being cheaper for the compressor unit overall with the installation of the rest of a new system. We got what we wanted. The service was nice and had a quick turn around and good deal. We went into this knowing that likely we were just paying for knowledge to guide our decisions which we got. Needless to say, until I get a new job we will be using some window units!
Description of Work: We got a $39 diagnostic service call deal here on Angie's List. The tech came and looked at the A/C system to give us a general idea of why the air was tripping in the circuit.

****I WOULDN'T USE ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!!!*****Blue Dot is amazong! From my initial use of their online chat sevice with Marion to the installation team of Larry S. and Kevin G. Blue Dot had both a extreemly knowledgeable technician, Tyrone, and Comfort consultant, Phil W., come out to look at my old A/C unit. I had the technician scheduled to come by between 0900 and 1200. He was at my house at 0845!! The comfort consultant was scheduled to be at my house at 1000, which he was! Both completed their jobs without trying to sell me anything. Instead they gave me all the facts and let me make my decision! the Installation team wan't any different! I was given a window of time of when they would be at my home, between 0800-0930. They were at my house at 0825! They got to work imeadately. Again, both Larry and Kevin, were very knowledgeable and answered all my questions They were both extreeml friendly, and were very careful to keep my house clean while they worked. I couldn't talk more highly about Blue Dot and the service they provide!

We used a groupon to have our heat pump cleaned and inspected. Everything went well. The worker, James, wore booties while inside and took the time to show me the various components and their current state. Not all providers do this, but I find it helpful in case I ever need to do some emergency troubleshooting. I'd hire them back, but I'm not a big fan of their method of scheduling. They can arrive any time after 9 30 in the morning and will call you 30 minutes in advance. So they basically want you to sit around and wait for them to contact you, which is great for them but sucks for you. I'd much more prefer the 1 or 2 hour window, even if they deviate from it.

The first problem was with punctuality. I had scheduled a "first call" at 8:30 AM as that best fit with my busy schedule. I received an automated reminder call the night before, then at 7:55 AM that morning, a confirmation call from an actual person. I advised I was there and expecting them. They advised the technician would arrive within 30-45 minutes. At 9AM I received an automated call that said the technician was scheduled for 8AM the following day. At that point I called and they said they have been having problems with their automated system. When checking on the status of the technician, they said they had been unable to confirm I was there, so the technician moved on to another call. Being really annoyed at that point I asked to speak to a manager. The manager was unavailable, but they would email her and they also let me leave her a voicemail. The manager called me back in about 30 minutes, apologized and said she would get a technician here ASAP and he would arrive between 10-11. Well, he finally arrive a little after noon. The next issue is the cost of the repairs they recommended. Keep in mind this inspection visit is under a maintenance contract that I already pay $466/year for. He recommended the replacement of the compressor startup capacitor because it was reading 0 volts and the only reason the system ran was because another booster capacitor had also been installed. I was charged $267 for a new capacitor and installation. He also recommended replacement of the contactor because it was pitted This would be another $372. I declined. Now that I have had a little time to do some research, I find that the Lennox factory part for the capacitor can be purchased on the Internet for about $30. Add about another $10 for shipping. The install time is about 5 minutes if you are taking your time - just one screw and two plug on wires. I purchased the contactor on the Internet for $30.04 with shipping. Could have gotten it for at least $5 less, but I elected for a Google 5-star rating. I expect to be able to replace this in about 15 minutes or so. Just need to keep track of about a dozen wires. The technician really had poor professionalism skills - at one point he made some lame excuse to my wife after she said something to him about running through the garden while looking for the heat pump outside. He also asked me if I minded if he used a tree in the woods out back to relieve himself. I told him he could come inside. This is not the first bad experience I had with this company. Last year, they told me I needed a new control board and fan motor when one of the systems failed. That repair would be $676 and they had to order parts. While waiting for parts, I went and swapped the control board and fan motor between the two identical units and the functioning unit still worked, so obviously that was not the problem. I spoke to the service manager and they sent one of their best technicians our. He diagnosed a bad reversing valve. Since this involves evacuating all the Freon out of the system, unsoldering the valve and soldering in he new one then filling the system with new Freon, this was beyond my abilities, so I had them do the work. This would have been a $1,477 repair, but due to all their screw-ups, they only charged me $922. In previous years they have come for annual maintenance on working systems, only to have us call them back the next day because one of the systems stopped working. I don't know the details of these because I was at work and my wife handled these. Bottom line is that I would not recommend Blue Dot to anyone. When my current contract expires, I will be looking for a new maintenance company; however, it kind of concerns me that the have so many "A" ratings on Angie's list.
Description of Work: This was the summer inspection for the annual maintenance contract on two Lennox heat pumps. As part of the inspection the technician advised the compressor start capacitor and the contactor needed to be replaced on one of the heat pumps.

My wife and I got 6 quotes to replace the 1970's furnace in our new home. Blue Dot was the last company we called. The gentlemen who came to give us the quote was friendly and professional, and was one of the few who arrived on time. Main problem was that their price was higher than several of the other quotes that we received, so we decided to go with a different company. I would still consider them for a future project.

They are really good. They've been out in June. Their charges depend on what you're having done and if you have a maintenance agreement with them that could vary. I think it's pretty comfortable with what everybody else in the area is doing, that's the best I can tell you. I don't think they're super high or super low. I think they're probably way in there with ballpark of what other companies are charging. What they've priced off to us has been always I think very fair.
Description of Work: The Blue Dot Maintenance provided me an estimate on a new heating system, and they also did a maintenance check on my existing air conditioning system.

Blue Dot Services of Maryland are a full service H & A/C company. They show up and do what they are supposed to do. They did maintenance on the central Air Conditioner and on the furnace to keep it running. It is their summer maintenance plan. You sign up for yearly maintenance and you get one visit in the summer and one during the winter which keeps it safe. The first thing I like about them is that they will work with you as far as setting up the appointment. They'll take any cellphones or anything else you have. They day that they happened to do it, I happened to have an appointment in the morning and had to come back to do the service. So they worked with me that the repairman would get here after I showed up. They called me on my home phone and my cellphone to work the schedule out so when he got here, I would be here to open the door for him. Then when they came in they were very courteous. You ask him a question and they guy onsite will explain anything you need to know. Then you can stay with him or just let him do his thing on his own, and they get you up and running and cooling. They go around inside and outside the home. They check all the pipes to be sure they haven't frozen. They check for carbon monoxide and all that wonderful stuff. They do what they say they are going to do. Before I had them install the new system I had been using them for 5 or 10 years to maintain my old system. They kept telling me to start putting money away to upgrade the system and, true enough, it eventually went out to lunch and they put the new system in. I would give them an overall A+ if you would let me! For the price, they are maybe a few dollars higher but having experience with these guys and knowing how they work I would rather just stay with them. They have never had to come back between visits: they change all the filters out, they keep you up on any latest innovations as far as filters. The time before last they put in a UV filter for me that was supposed to help with controlling some other thing that gets in to the system. They are very knowledgeable.

Overall, I was the victim of a tactic widely used by some companies, and I almost fell for it. If the technician's "ultrasound" could not find a leak, he should have kept troubleshooting to get to the bottom of the problem.
Description of Work: Unfortunately, I can only give this company a failing grade since the repairman diagnosed my problem as a leaking coil and quoted approx. $2000 to replace it and recommended replacing the furnace and outside unit (compressor/condenser) also (company came next day for estimate of $5300 for SEER 13 system). The failing grade is because my coil was not leaking and, in the end, I paid about $110 for a service call, a few ounces of freon and a new contactor on the outside unit. This company's repairman diagnosed the leak using a 'sniffer' and then an "ultrasound." The sniffer indicated a leak was present, but the ultrasound wasn't as conclusive (the technician concluded there was a leak based on the sniffer only). A reputable master HVAC mechanic checked thoroughly for a leak with an "ultrasound" and found no leak. My system is up and running normally.

Decided not to proceed with the recommendation as it appeared that they were only interested in selling an expensive system which may not be necessary to start with.
Description of Work: Summer maintenance of the HVAC was performed. While the technician was courteous and seemed competent, he strongly suggested that I spoke with their sales people about 'options' regarding our system as he detected that the A/C might be leaking small amount of refrigerant. Met with the sales person and was basically told that the 'options' were how much we wanted to spend on a new system. Asked for a written estimate which appeared high.
