 + 1 moreVery pleased with Petro's service so far. Prices are competitive, though perhaps not the lowest you can find. Customer service has always been excellent - always get a real person on the other end of the line and they're always pleasant to deal with, professional, and most importantly - helpful. I had accidentally let my oil tank drain to empty due to a faulty gauge, on a Sunday right before a big snow storm was due. They told me they would send someone out right away with a few gallons to get me through the storm and then schedule a regular fill-up a few days later. Well, they did even better: a truck finished up its deliveries early and rerouted to fill up my tank within a few hours of calling. Shortly after, a technician arrived to restart the furnace. Best part, since I have a maintenance plan with them, there was no cost to me, except for that of refill oil itself. All dealings with Petro so far have been professional and punctual. I will absolutely be continuing to use them for service.
Description of Work: Installed a new 275 gallon oil tank for oil burner. I also use Petro for regular oil fill-ups and yearly furnace maintenance.

 + -1 moreWe have found the oil service far better than the AC business. We have used the oil service for 30 years. It is hard to schedule an appointment, one us has to take off from work, usually late, but the quality of the work has been excellent However, the AC part of the business - work has been poor and service is worse. Last summer our air conditioning broke down. Petro staff came out twice to fix it with a bill of @$600. Six weeks after the last fix - the system totally broke down. Petro subcontracted with another company to replace our entire ac system. That company was great. However, Petro would not give us a break on the price of the new system based on the previous $600 we paid 6 weeks earlier. Planning to find another company as soon as this year's contract is up It would be very helpful if, like some of our other providers, Petro could give us a call close to the appt time and let us know exactly when the service person would arrive. We cannot afford to take off time from work waiting for repairmen to show up - especially in this case when it is hours NOTE: price quoted above was a service contract. Our monthly oil bill i @$500+ based on projected costs over 10 months-& pay additional charges if the price of oil goes up over the year, very cold winter, etc
Description of Work: 1. called to find out why our hot water tank wasn't working - didn't fix it until next day. My husband spend 6 hrs away from work waiting for them - they finally came at 10:30PM but didn't ring doorbell - came back next day 2. pre-arranged AC check up for 7-9am -started calling at 8:15AM - no one answered until at 8:45 that my app't preempted by another service call & didn't know when person would come out. Had to take off from work to do this - now have another app't later this week

I called the in the morning on 3/6, and within 3 hours, a tech was at my door! He was very professional and tried to also help with other issues that were unrelated. Great service. I used to have a contract with Griffith, and that was a disaster. We are very pleased with Petro!

 + -1 moreOur salesman, David Oehlke, was very thorough in his sales presentation. He took the time to answer all of our questions and go over the price and financing options. He measured the area to make sure we were purchasing the right air conditioning equipment for our size house. The financing was very generous and we made the purchase on the spot. The installation team showed us as scheduled, right on time. There were no problems with the installation and they cleaned up all their mess. Very efficient process. We love our new air conditioning system! We have never had a problem. In fact, we have been in touch with Mr. Oehlke to give us price/information on a generator after we lost power last week.
Description of Work: Sold us and installed new Bryant air conditioning system.

Description of Work: Petro Heating AC & Home Services supplies our heating oil and we have our service contract with them for our heating system. They fill up the oil tank and they are on call if there is anything that goes wrong within our heating system.

 + -1 moreRatings are for the technicians and sales rep. Petro Corporate/Billing would get lower marks (See below). Petro and their technicians were fantastic. The estimate we received was in the middle, but seemed very reasonable. The technicians were knowledgeable and respectful of my time and property. They went above and beyond to make sure that things were done right - including providing solutions to get the oil stink (after cutting up an oil tank, yes, it reeks of oil in your house) out of the house quickly. The senior technician even replaced piping (for free) on our gas water heater that he noticed had been done badly. My one complaint is with Petro's billing department. Obviously completely separate from the order/work shop. We chose the pay in full option, which had a pay 30 days post completion of work due date. Petro corporate billing started calling our house 2 days after the work was completed, and proceeded to call daily, or it seemed like daily until they received the check. Given that we still had over 20 days to pay the invoice, I found this annoying and ridiculous, especially as they would call early and late. Also, given that we had been a Petro customer for over 6 years with an excellent payment history, there was no need to start dunning phone calls.
Description of Work: We had an old oil furnace removed and replaced with a new gas furnace. W also had an in-house, above ground oil tank (about 3/4 filled with oil ) removed. All holes in the wall and pipes associated with the new and old furnaces were either removed or replaced/repaired as appropriate.

Description of Work: Petro has been one of our heating oil providers for years. Estimate for heating oil conversion to natural gas boiler using existing radiator heat. Appointment was easy to make and promptly confirmed and kept. Mark Tieri was very knowledgeable and provided detailed estimate and brochures of the two boilers detailed. Discount applied and payment options and financing included. Decided to hire another company to install a high efficiency natural gas boiler.

Description of Work: Installed central A/C. They may have subcontracted. All was well until it leaked last year while we were away. The ceiling is still full of stains. I have worked on the floor with cleaners. They did not repair the stain. The A/C leaked due to faulty installation with a drain unit.

 + -1 morePetro was typically responsive when ask to deliver heating oil however, the furnance maintenance was another story. We were with them for approx. 4 years after they installed the furnace and for two of those years we were unable to have our furnace maintenance done because they were either unable to meet our scheduling needs or they did not arrive within the scheduled window that they had allotted. The billing aspect was another problem also. When I contacted them to discuss what I believed to be a discrepancy, they were again not very responsive. When they did respond they were very confused in their accounting and it took many attempts to clear up my issues. In the end I paid off our account and switched to Warthen Fuel.
Description of Work: Delivery of heating oil. Contracted to perform maintenance on the furnace which they installed.

 + -1 moreEvery thing went very well - note items in the above description, The job was very professionally done by a team who obviously knew what they were doing. The main plumber stayed late to insure that the job was complete and tested before he left. Reported problems were attended too promptly and fixed to my complete satisfaction. As an added note my regular plumber was called on another mater and while here inspected the whole new heating system - he said they did a fine job throughout and he only had one minor comment about an item he may have done differently.
Description of Work: Replaced the main furnace for my Two zone hot water heating system. Had estimate from Petro and my regular plumber - their estimate was lower and i decided to go with them because they were in the Oil heating business. They subcontracted to Asbestos removal company to remove cover and Asbestos from old hot water boiler. Drained water from system and removed old boiler, burner, circulating pump, zone valves etc. Replaced Boiler, Burner, circulating pump, two zone valves and two thermostats including all new plumbing required to interface with old heating system distribution pipes and radiators. Recharges system with water and bled Air from Radiators. A slight leak showed up after refilling systme with water which they fixed without redraining the whole system! The baseboard heating zone appeard to be heating slowly - a service technition responded promptly and verified all was operating properly. The slow heating was caused by the high temperature set point - which they had set below what i had set for previous system - the new high temperature set point was required by the boiler manufaturer. About a week after the installation one of the new thermostats malfunctiond - it was not the one associated with the baseboard heating zone - a service technition responded promplly and replated the thermostat with a higher quality replacement.

 + 0 moreWe have had Petro as our heating oil provider for many, many years. They promptly estimate when we need a refill and simply show up to fill our tank so we never have to worry about running out of heating oil. They offer budget billing so we pay a set amount each month and once a year we "straighten up" and either get a credit or owe a little more. Last year on the yearly inspection it was noticed our oil tank was showing signs of bulging and needed replacing. Same inspection also showed our old furnace was becoming dangerous and needed replacing. Their salesman was extremely knowledgable, measured our rooms, took note of window placement in each room and accurately recommended the model furnace necessary to heat our home. One work crew drained the old tank and installed the new tank in about 2 hours. Very good workers, very neat especially considering we have no direct entrance into our basement and the tank and equipment had to come through the kitchen and down the basement stairs. A second crew dismantled the old furnace and installed the new one. Job finished the same day. Were also very knowledgeable, neat, and worked hard. We have saved over $500 in heating oil costs with this new furnace. They also followed up when winter came to be sure everything was working properly.

 + -1 moreThey were good. We did not have any problems with them. They send out trucks so they are all around the northern Virginia/Maryland area. They were responsive. We used other company before we used Petro. We were happy with Petro. They came out and serviced our heating system. The heating system was quite dirty and they did a really good job of cleaning it. We have one year agreement with them for heating and air conditioning system maintenance and they charge $120 a year. This season they came out and cleaned and serviced it without any additional fee. They have been filling our heating oil on a routine basis. They have estimated how much we might be using and kept it as a part of our contract. They were professional, punctual and courteous.

 + -1 moreThe installers came exactly when promised and spent the day removing the old furnace and replacing it with a new oil furnace. They worked professionally and cleanly despite the obvious difficulties. They came at 8:30 am as promised, and made sure all was working securely before leaving at 6:00 pm that evening. Changing a furnace in December has its problems, but we were pleased with the way these technicians worked. We would definitely recommend them. We also use their oil delivery and we are pleased with that. (We may flinch when we see the bill this year because of the instability of oil prices!)
Description of Work: Our 31 year old oil furnace was in need of replacement. We interviewed 3 different firms to get quotes. All came and gave us their detailed quote. We were impressed with the professional response and personal concern demonstrated by the Petro Oil representative who visited us and quickly went over the pluses and minuses of different furnaces as well as how the new furnace was different and improved from the one we had. He gave us a firm quote and we signed with them.

 + -1 moreWe noticed a problem with our furnace, that it wasn't working properly. They came and told us that the furnace was working properly being from 1980. We inquired about our options being our furnace was petrol driven. It was done very quickly during the winter and I didn't even notice they were there. They did a very very good job.
Description of Work: They came when they said they would. When I had questions, they were able to answer. We'd been using them for over 20 years and never had a time they didn't respond. Employees were very discreet and respective of privacy. They cleaned up their messes and took care of what they did very well.

We have one aspect of the service that aggravates us, they send us a postcard telling us when they will be here. You do have the option of calling and changing the time, but to me that is an inconvenience. There service personnel are nice and courteous.

 + -1 moreThey say on their card that they give 24 hour emergency service, and yet when we called to ask for service when the A/C broke they said that they didn't have any service available! Apparently 24 hour emergency service doesn't mean 24 hour service to them.
