Hardy Slate Roofing Co

My wife and I contacted Hardy Slate Roofing and spoke immediately with the owner Glenn. We advised that our slate roof was in disrepair and he was out within the next few days and agreed that our best and most reasonable option was to install a new slate roof; it would have been too costly to switch out several slate instead of just taking care of the entire roof at once. The job was finished within 7 days; and we are so happy with the job! We have used Hardy Slate Roofing Services before and will continue to do so!!

I contacted Hardy Slate and spoke directly with the owner Glenn Hardy. I explained what needed to be done; Mr. Hardy came out the next day and completed a free inspection. He advised exactly what I needed; and provided a very reasonable quote/price. They were at my house the very next day and the work was completed in the time stated. Everything turned out beautifully! I would recommend Hardy Slate Roofing Service to ANYONE that needs roofing work completed.

Unprofessional. Not responsive. Does not follow through. I would AVOID.

Very poor quality work. The original work was on October 2008. Had them back for warranty work a few times because roof still leaked. Work was never done correctly and still have problems to this day due to their poor workmanship. Copper flashing was poorly hand bent on areas that are visible. They did not use a bending brake. Flashing around chimney is still not right and look horrible. Still leaks into attic. They tried to say it was the chimney mortar which I found out was not true. This area did not leak until they redid the flashing. Slate tiles they replaced around valley were not nailed in place. They used roof cement/glue and they are falling out now. After having other companies inspect my roof, each one said Hardy (I did not mention their name) did poor work. Now I have to have it redone where a proper repair would have lasted decades.

I called them in the morning they came out that evening. Walked him around the house & took him into the attic too. He remembered the place from 5 years ago (Oct 2009) dealing with the previous owner who had 18 slate tiles replaced for me before I closed on the house. ($800.00) Came back the next day & had the job done before I could make it home to thank them. Main concern for them when they called to tell me they were coming early was completing the work before it poured rain again that evening. Didn't even bother me about the check, I had to call them back to say I was mailing it in. Swell guys. Very professional. Were concerned about the broken tiles on the neighbor's side of the duplex. Will be using them again.

Very trustworthy guys who do a good job. Sometimes takes more than one call to get them out.

It went well in terms of determining the cause, providing an estimate that we considered reasonable, and completing the work the same day.

I had one company come and give an estimate that I thought was high. I called Hardy and they came out and gave me an estimate that I thought was more than fair and was going to do more work then the previous company. I went with Hardy and he did a great job. My daughter and neighbor have also used him and is pleased as well. Now I have have a new roofer.

On time. Worked very hard and long hours. Cared about doing excellent job. All were very polite, forth-coming and nice and respectful. Explained all that was installed in work. Complete clean up. Also, gave us colored photos of work in progress.

They were immediately responsive, gave a quote, which we accepted. They stayed focused on the work with a minimal use of our time. They came back the next day to do the repair and they were efficient, non-intrusive, and clean. They never suggested replacing more than we needed. I was very pleased from beginning to end.

I could tell right off the bat from having other people come to look at the roof that this company was extremely knowledgeable about slate roofs -- that is what I needed, not just a roofer. I felt their price was extremely fair since I had one company come out to tell me I needed an entire new roof which would have cost me $30,000. I did not need a new roof, only the repair. They went above and beyond our contract by helping head off another potential problem they found while working on the roof. It is a local business and I will use them again in the future. The owner was down to earth and talked to me as a person; not over my head. He also was very patient and the workmen were prompt on the job.

The gentleman who took my call said he had an estimator in the area that day and would stop by my house and leave an estimate in the mailbox. It took one week for the estimator to come by my house. The estimate appeared reasonable; however, I haven't been able to get anyone from this company to return my calls to discuss the estimate and schedule the repairs. Review that this company has too many customers to be responsive was "spot on"!

I called Mr. Hardy for an estimate on my roof after I found two joists in my attic wet after the first heavy rain of the season. After examining the slate, chimney (entry point), and original timber joists he determined the leak had been an on going problem for 20-30 years and never properly repaired. The original home owners had caulked and tarred around the chimney and slate to try and patch the leak (BIG NO NO). Since the chimney was a major infiltration point the mortar needed to be ground out and repointed with some new bricks. This repair combined with the slate replacement, new copper flashing, new sheathing and sistered joists costed $4100. I was actually expecting more for such a repair. Mr. Hardy could tell this was my first house and recommended I get as many quotes as possible before I decided on a slate roofer. I received a quote from several other companies including some of the better known slate roofing companies and all the quotes were nearly double or more than Mr. Hardy's. They all wanted to perform the same thing. The work took a little bit longer because it seemed to rain every single day for a couple weeks. The end result is great! My chimney actually looks like a chimney and not a giant red nugget of rock sitting on my house and the best part my attic is dry. I highly recommend Hardy Slate Co.. I plan on using them for my yearly maintenance. Plus it always feels great supporting the smaller family run company. :)

I'm very happy with the company. It's a small, family-run operation. They are very responsive, and the work is done promptly. What I also like about Hardy is that they don't try to scare you and convince you that you needs tons of work done. To the contrary, they told me the roof is old (85 years or so), but will continue to last for the foreseeable future if I keep up with basic maintenance. Like all slate roofers, their work is expensive. But I've found Hardy's prices to be very reasonable for the work they do. I definitely recommend them for slate roof work.

There was a leak on the chimney wall (wall of room) it was a slight leak or seepage. I had the slates replaced on a regular basis for many years and the chimney exterior wall sealed with Thompsons water seal. As with a lot of leaks, most companys did not know how to correct the problem. Justin Hardy came up with a solution on first sight that had not been suggesed previously. His opinion that the caulk that sealed the flashing to the chimney had lost its efficacy made sense to me. He replaced the flashing and ground out some mortar where the flashing was to adher and inserted the flashing into the mortor between the brick and mortored over the flashing. The past several weeks indicate the problem is solved.

On time and got the work done quickly. They took pictures of the roof for me so I could be more familiar with the condition of the roof. Very helpful crew. I would definitely recommend them.

They came out removed old roof and replace the Slate roof and sealed up in the dips of the roof around the peaks. This company I will use again, they came out did the work and was very fast and clean when they worked.

We knew we had roof problems, and suspected we had gutter/fascia problems as well (the clue was the huge quantities of water cascading into our bedroom). We decided to start by fixing the roof. Mr. Hardy was our third estimate. His quote for a 10-yr rubber roof was close to others' quotes for a 3-yr asphalt roof ($1900). His team showed up when they said they would for estimates and work, completed the work as agreed, and were responsive when we called to say that our water problem still wasn't solved. Mr. Hardy came out again, examined the crumbling brick and rotted fascia, and gave me an estimate for fixing it (another $1900). I don't think they usually do that brickwork, but I was very glad that they offered. We were going to be out of town, but they offered to complete the work while we were away. Sure enough, we returned from vacation to a house that magically did not leak. Yippee! Mr. Hardy and his team (sons?) were professional, friendly, and solved our problem.

The work was done on time, as scheduled (interrupted only by a few inches of snow) and at the estimated cost. Mr Hardy and his crew were neat and clean throughout. I would recommend them to anyone.
