The owner and his son came out on a Saturday, and I'm very satisfied. They took the time to explain everything they were doing and give me advice on how to proceed. They suggested I see how well the A/C held the freon after cleaning the outside unit and changing the filter before I spend money on a full leak inspection, which I appreciated. They seemed very honest, eager to help, and their pricing was fair. They also accepted the Angie's List coupon for $25 off. I will use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: My A/C (heat pump) stopped blowing cool air. They inspected the outside unit (checked pressure, temperature, etc.) and cleaned it. They also inspected the furnace/blower in the basement and discovered freezing that was occurring. They refilled missing freon and cleaned the system. Because it was a Saturday, they said it they'd have to come back to do a full inspection to identify any leaks in the system that might be causing the freezing.

During a recent severe heat wave, our air conditioner stopped working. I contacted No-Frost and, even though we were new customers and they had a backlog of requests, they were able to send someone to our house the same day. The technician was thorough and knowledgeable and fixed the problem quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I lost A/C upstairs in the bed-room area a day before I called them. I checked my out-door unit and found that the fan wasn't functioning but the unit itself hummed so it was working. I knew that the problem was the fan. Since they are a local company (same town), I called this company at around 9:45 AM this morning and left a message with their operator. A gentleman by the name of John called me back within a half hour and told me what their service call price would be and that a technician was out and I would be right after. The tech called me around Noon telling me he would be here in a half hour. He arrived around 1 PM and left around 1:30 PM. The job was diagnosed quickly because I kind of already knew that the problem may lie in the capacitor or worst case a fan motor, based on my knowledge of these things. Once he opened the housing, it was obvious that the capacitor was busted. So went out to his truck and 5 mins later we had the new capacitor in and the fan was blowing again... As a general rule he checked the refrigerant levels and it checked out okay. The bill was a little high in my personal opinion but he got the job done quickly and efficiently. I used the coupon of 25 bucks and ended up paying a little over $200.00 All in all very happy with the company. I will definitely use them again if I had a problem...

The AC handler is only 5 years old and it was tilted because the support box gave away a little .so the system was leaking water. they came out and the service man was pretty curt and insulted the guy who put the unit in . He tried to talk me into a new one for 5 k . He said a repair would probably be 2K . he said he would have the office call. they didn't call for a week ..so i called ..they said they were sorry and would call the next day . They didn't call .I called 3 days later ..and the owner and his wife both said i should get a new system and they really didn't want to do a repair. He said said he would think about it and call me the next day . He never called ..A week later we called JEm AC and they fixed it all for 1300. No frost was unprofessional and rude. We obviously wouldn't recommend them to anyone .

My technician called from customer's house about all the things that were wrong with the unit that someone else installed. My technician told me that person that installed this system was a HVAC teacher at a local college. There were so many things wrong and I did call the customer back a week later and told him I didn't want to get involved with this system. The only way I would get involved with this job was to replace the system. Note: the customer gave my technician a $10.00 tip.

Our air conditioning went out in the middle of a summer heatwave. When we arrived home from work, the thermostat said it was 83 degrees in the house, but the blower was running. I called No Frost the next morning around 8:30am and spoke with the very personable Eileen. She asked a few questions about the type of system I had and was patient when I couldn't give her specifics. She told me the service call price ($95), the fee for additional time/labor, and that any parts would be extra. When I agreed, she said that someone would be by that same afternoon and she would call when they were on the way. I sat under the ceiling fan and waited. Eileen called back a little more than an hour later and said Clint was on his way within 30 minutes! As it was still hotter inside my house than it was outside, I was thrilled that someone would be coming so quickly. Clint showed up less than 30 minutes later. He cleaned the air filter (did you know you don't have to buy new ones? Just clean your existing one monthly with 409 and water!) and checked the system. He walked around outside and determined that the capacitor (the thing that starts the air compressor) was blown. He replaced it and the house immediately started getting cooler. He also tested the freon. Clint was gone in less than 30 minutes. I was able to use the coupon here for $25 off without problem. I have nothing to compare the prices to, but the service was fast, professional, friendly and effective. I found No Frost through a neighbor who also had a positive experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the company.

I contacted several major places in the area. No Frost came up with the best offer based on criteria I had set. They were able to start within a week of the request for a full HVAC system. They even tarped my basements carpet that I didnt care about. They were all very professional in completing the job. The final layout and system was terrific; they had to move the water heater to make space and took in my needs for future changes into consideration. Overall Great company and group of people to deal with.

Called them Thursday morning because our Heat Pump (AC) was not cooling. Asked for same day and they said, although they were fully booked they would try and could call me if something came available. Gave them my wife's cell. Came home and the job was done - AC works great. Very friendly, very professional and very responsive. Prices explained up front. Technician worked diligently, did a good job and explained everything clearly. My wife felt very comfortable with him in our home. I noticed that a previous member rated them F because they would not install an air exchanger in his attic on a hot day. I'm a general contractor. I wouldn't do that either. No employer with an ounce of humanity would. On a 98 degree day, it's over 130 degrees in an attic. You can barely breath. Just because someone is in the heating and cooling business doesn't mean they have superhuman powers for overcoming temperature extremes. I'm just saying ...

Here was the situation: It was 9:15 PM. I had family visiting for Memorial Day. It feels hot inside. A quick look at the thermostat confirmed my fear - the A/C has gone out. I look outside, and the fan wasn't spinning on the condenser unit. No Frost had just come to my house a few weeks ago to fix the same issue. I decided to try their same repair from before (replacing the fuses). I run to Lowe's - getting there only minutes before they close - and bought a new fuse. I popped in the new fuses - still no dice. Begrudgingly, I resolved to wait through the night and give No Frost a call again in the morning. I called at 7:00AM - must have been the first caller. Someone answered and took down my info, and then said they would be back with me right away. I got a return call five minutes later, and the receptionist knew me by name and remembered my problem from before. I explained that I had replaced the fuse again myself, but it's still not working. She was very nice and offered to work me into their incredibly busy last-day-before-Memorial Day schedule. I was impressed that they were able to work me in before the holiday - I was expecting to have a hot and muggy Memorial Day. The technician arrived mid-afternoon, and diagnosed the problem quickly (blown capacitor in the unit). Was quick, professional, and lived up to the expectations I had from my previous No Frost experience. Within a few minutes, wonderful cold air was coming into the house and cooling off myself and a grateful family. The day was saved! I had to work during the day. My mother-in-law was at home visiting, so she handled letting the technician in to do his work. He did a great job explaining the issue to her and offered to let us send in a check since I wasn't home. Best of all, they waived the service charge since they had just been out to the house before and didn't catch any issue then. A great job from a small company that continues to impress.

I called No-Frost to get an estimate on having a new heating and cooling system installed. When they found out the unit was in the attic they said it was too hot to go into the attic and would not come to the house at all for a quote. If temperature extremes are an issue then perhaps No Frost is in the wrong business.

At the time this customer called we were two weeks behind in our installations and the temperatures were in the 90's. I wanted to be honest with her so she wouldn't have to wait for the quote or installation. As a rule during extreme heat waves, we do not install attic systems for the safety of our employees. Therefore, we are available to service our existing customers and give priority service to the elderly and customers with medical needs.

John came to my house and was pleasant and on time. He listened to what I was looking for and what the issues are with my current system. He generated a quote on the spot. I chose not to hire "No frost" because they did not do a Manual J. A manual J is recommended by the Air Conditioner Contractors of America Association and all major brands (Trane, Carrier, Lennox) to assure that the proper sized unit is installed. I did ask John to do one but he said "it takes a long time." A manual J requires that the contractor measure the entire house, doors, windows, insulation, etc to determine how much cooling power a house needs. According to all the major manufacturers I called, they all said do not hire a company unless they do a Manual J. Some states actually require it. John is a nice guy, and "No frost" seems like a good company, and I'm sure they do good work, but I just couldn't hire them until I was sure they were choosing the proper sized unit. It's important to have exactly the right size unit. Too big=increased likelihood of mold growth in home due to short cycling of unit, which increases humidity and mold. Too small unit=works to hard and unable to cool house effectively. see this link regarding Manual J's from the Air Conditioning Contractors of America: https://www.acca.org/consumer/faqs-from-homeowners

It was a really good experience. Prompt, professional, and well-executed. My only complaint was that it was a bit expensive - but then again, this sort of thing always is. Gladly, they went right after the problem and didn't waste my time trying to recommend additional maintainence contracts, etc. I'd gladly pay a bit more for professional service like I received from No-Frost. I'm happy to see companies who are a little bit more expensive, but make their money on actual services performed - not the upsell. Overall, I highly recommend this company. You get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Called No-Frost because our A/C stopped working. The receptionist was great and very friendly, and booked me an appointment quickly. She offered to call 30 minutes before the crew was on their way, which made it (relatively) painless to leave work and make it home to meet the crew. (No waiting through a four-hour window!) They promptly diagnosed and repaired the problem. The crew was very nice and professional, introduced themselves upon arrival, and explained what they were doing.

They have excellent ratings on Angie's List website. We don't have a maintenance contract with them. We pay per visit. They inspect everything for us and they provide us with new filters and we have specialized filters. We have HEPA filters. We also have a whole home humidifier that has a water panel that goes inside of that. They check the whole system when they are here. They provide superior service whether it is routine maintenance or whether it is a service call when the A/C or the heater is not working. They are a family owned business. When I call and say who I am, they know exactly what furnace and A/C I have which is impressive. We did not install the system. It was installed with the previous owner. They know our address and they know our name. They are just really a great company. I would highly recommend them. They are really superior.

The technician fixed the broken wire and called the office, and they decided to cover it under their 2 year installation warranty even though it was an old wire from the original home construction. I was very thankful and impressed. I have been impressed time and time again with No Frost, as have my neighbors to whom I've recommended their services. Class A+ business - one of the best I've ever encountered in any type of service.
Description of Work: No Frost installed our Trane A/C-Heat Pump about a year and a half ago, and they responded to my service call immediately. Our heat pump wasn't keeping up with the recent cold spell. They were able to come same day if I had been available, but because I wasn't, they scheduled me for early the next morning. The technician was very competent and was able to quickly diagnose a broken wire in the wall behind the computer thermostat that powers the supplemental heat.

In the past we have been a big fan of No-Frost A/C & Heating. We chose them to replace a 4-ton heat pump for $7800 in 2008. They provided the most competitive cost and did an excellent job with the installation. In 2009 we had them service our gas heater and check the new 4-ton heat pump. Service was performed on the gas heater. We probably spent in the neighborhood of $300 for that service call. This year we decided we did not want to replace the smaller heat pump damaged by snow and ice since it seemed to be working well. The No-Frost technician said the contactor should be replaced so we found a contactor through an internet parts provider and my husband installed the parts (he is an electrical engineer and can handle these tasks competently some of the time). Everything seemed to work well with the exception that the fan on the exterior unit ran continuously. Oops - our DIY effort didn't succeed. Ready to concede my husband wasn't an HVAC expert, we called No-Frost to return to fix our DIY no-fix. No emergency - everything is working - but we really don't want to waste the energy it took to continuously run a fan. I received a call from No-frost a couple of weeks later while I was out of town and couldn't take the service call. They said they would re-schedule for later. This would have been sometime in June. The fan ran all summer while the heat pump was air-conditioning. We manually turned off the fan and the heat pump when the weather cooled off in the fall. When we needed the heat pump to warm the rooms visitors would use over the Thanksgiving holiday, I once more called No-Frost in early November to return to fix the continuously running fan. They said they would come the following week. Again no-show. Finally I called Environmental Systems Associates on November 29. They arrived on November 30, discovered my husband had installed the contactor backwards, charged us $160 for their time, and we are happy campers. We are really feeling that No-Frost was unhappy that we didn't have them replace the heat pump, or resented our trying to fix it ourselves. Since we will probably have to replace the heat pump sometime in the future, and we have been pretty good customers in the past, we would have thought that No-Frost would have treated us with a little more consideration.
Description of Work: Inspected a heat pump that was not cooling. Heat pump had been damaged by ice during the winter storms. Serviceman left pump in operating condition and provided estimate to repair (approximately $300) or replace ($5000)
