Alan Pooner is by far one the best home improvement contractors I have ever encountered, and I'm in real estate and have worked with a lot of vendors. He is laid back, honest, prompt and his after-sale customer service is so great that I worry he isn't making enough money. 3 years after install of our door he returned to weld a plate along the side of the door to cover a 1 inch gap between the door and the fence which WE moved AFTER the original install - totally not his responsibility, yet he tweaked it for us at no charge. He has also made adjustments for free over the years to ensure proper function after we've closed the door on trashcans etc. Such a nice, honest team - can't recommend these guys more highly.

Great! The team happened to be down the block from me installing a new door for one of my neighbors, and when they heard my garage door squeaking they came over to make sure it was still well aligned (it was) and then greased it free of charge! I'll definitely call them for any future issues, but I don't anticipate having many since they take such good care of their equipment and clients.

The main number for N. Pooner & Sons goes to an answering service, so they weren't able to answer my questions (price and availability for a service check) immediately, but the main reason I'm writing a review is to encourage people to have a little patience. When Alan Pooner called me back later that afternoon (after I had already scheduled someone else to come the next day), he provided excellent and clear advice on how to check the electrical connection on the sensor myself, and even how to fix the squeaking, to spare me the cost of a service check unless it was really necessary. As you might have guessed, his advice was perfect! I fixed the sensor myself and am going out to buy some grease to tackle the squeaking asap. Alan definitely earned my trust on this one and I will call N Pooner & Sons before anyone else moving forward. Also, it's worth noting that the steel roll-up doors you see behind almost all DC townhouse these days are commercial models, not residential, so most companies I called (before hearing back from Alan) did not have a qualified technician they were willing to send for service, even in many cases where they specifically advertised that they performed both residential and commercial work. Turns out this is somewhat of a specialty, and they charge accordingly (almost twice what the service fee is for residential models) so I am especially appreciative of Alan's help and expertise.

Mr. Pooner's company came out gave us an estimate and promised installation within 10 weeks from receipt of signed contract and deposit. Mr. Pooner obtained all the necessary licenses and began work promptly. His company's workmanship is excellent. The garage door is mounted on steel posts, not wood so it is made to last. Also after it was installed, Mr. Pooner followed up to make sure the door and automatic opener were working smoothly. He is concerned that his product works as promised. We are very pleased with our remote controlled free standing roll up garage door. We are sure that it has increased the value of our property and it looks very nice and is very functional.
