John Day Roofing and Waterproofing

. Last year on a Sunday we had noticed missing shingles. With an approaching storm we reached out to several roof repair companies. John and his son came out the same day and we had about 30 shingles replaced. Was advised in a year they will do a free roof inspection to ensure everything was good. Fast forward a year and they didnt show up, we had a a small leak on the corner of our roof. I reached out and spoke with john. We scheduled a time and day On the day Davis roofing shows up, says they work with John. Looks at my issue, takes pictures and shows me some flashing that has peeled off. Suggests we seal the valley and fix the flashing, that will be 1K. Im like not a chance and he days how about 800. I tell him look. Im sure you do fine work, but I worked with John, I dont know you or researched you. I found John Day via home advisor. I ask about my roof inspection and he didnt know anything about that and was not inclined to do it. He left his card and left. Why not just replace the flashing which I think is the issue? Because the job is too small is prolly the answer so lets add sealing and slap a 1k price on it then drop it to 800. Do these people just pull a number out of thin air? Plus its not even the company I did business with! I've tried to reach John with several voice mails and on the last one the machine was full. They seems so nice. So caring. Talked about great customer service, but here we are. Im just very disappointed and as usual its hard to find decent work that you can stand behind. Ill be leaving the same review on home advisor. Requested they patch roof. First appointment they did not show up. Then they tried to patch the roof a couple times, but this failed. They use sales tactics and dont follow through with what is promised.

John Sr. and his son should be ashamed of themselves. They came to my home in the late summer of 2018 to give me an estimate on repairing my roof. When they arrived they used high pressure sales techniques on me, a young female first time home owner. They told me they had another job which had been cancelled and all the supplies in the truck to do the job I needed. They told me if I paid them to do it that day it would be $1000 cheaper than if I wanted to get other quotes or think about it. Senior boasted about how great of a roofer he was saying he was only doing the job because he knew he could do it right and it wasn't worth a bad review to him to do it otherwise. I finally agreed and paid them over $3000 to repair a small subroof above a kitchen extension. After a couple of hours they finished and left. The check was cashed the next day. Three weeks later, the roof leaked and this time it was worse than before. The water damage inside was more than twice what it had been before I had the roof repaired. I contacted them right away but they didn't come for another 2 weeks, allowing more rain to cause more damage to the home. I also had to contact them repeatedly to get them to commit to a day to come back. Finally, they did come and repaired the roof. Then, 10 months later (so this past July 2019) the roof leaked again, in the exact same place. Again I contacted them as it was guaranteed for 5 years. Again I had to call and text multiple times, and got many excuses for multiple cancellations, but after 9 days, they sent someone to fix the roof. The repairman told me he was not confident that the repair would last and when I checked the roof, the original blister/hole was still there, he had not fixed it! So of course, the roof leaked again. Two weeks later and many calls and texts later, they came out again to fix the roof. This time John Jr came instead of sending someone. Unfortunately, whatever he did to the roof did not fix it as it leaked again about 2 months later. I contacted them right away, but it's now been two weeks and no one has come to the home. They have scheduled times to come and just not showed up. They do not call or email me back. And I have not been able to get in touch with them for a week now. This has been their behavior all along, not answering, not returning calls, not showing up, and making excuses and canceling. I am tired of trying to track them down, tired of paying for repairs to the inside of my home just to have more damage happen each time the roof leaks again. This company is unprofessional, unreliable, and incapable of providing quality repairs. I will be filing complaints with the BBB, city and possibly pursuing a court claim with them as I paid a lot of money and the roof is worse now than before they "fixed" it.

It wne well. Mr Day inspected the entire roof and took pictures. He showed me all the before pictures and explained exactly what he was able to do. He was able to do the required worked immediately and took after pictures. He stated the work should give the roof about another eight years of life. Payment was made through PayPal, a secure payment process so that there were no records of the credit card info floating around.

It did not go well at all and contractor is refusing to refund me my money for payment of service not performed. I have filled complaints with the Consumer Protection Agency in Montgomery County and with the BBB. My next step is to proceed to civil court.

great until they got paid. Now, the roof is still leaking and they have not come out to check/repair it

I just had service with him about 4 weeks ago. As a family business I expected better. They talk a very good game and that's it. As a Realtor, I am always looking for new companies I can potentially use and refer to my clients so I gave them a try. I called and they were very responsive in the beginning to get my money. I paid his company $2950 Cash to repair my roof. I never got the pictures they claim they would send me, that was the first thing. They gave me a receipt that stated thy would come back out within a year to repair any leaks that may happen. Within two weeks I got another leak in my roof in the same spot that should have been repaired. I called several times and no answer. I had to call from a different phone in order for them to answer. They stated they would come that Thursday and never came or called back. I called again and set it up for yesterday and again they never called or came. I called them 3 times yesterday and left a message and no return call. They do not stick by their work and I have another leak within weeks of the repair. DO NOT USE THEM. After they get your money the will not call you back or come back if you have issues. Poor professionalism and poor business. I would never use them again or refer them to anyone. Buyers BEWARE!!!!! I thought Angies list would get me reputable people and it has got me a crooks like the others.

Not good. To make a long story short, Mr. Day missed the first two appointments and the third appointment, I wasn't present. I never received a contract, a receipt, or photos of before and after. He said the roof is in good shape but I needed a part of the roof in the back to be replaced, a pipe boot, and other things. In addition, he said he could all the things and seal the roof with a sealant for $1650. The work was supposed to be done and I paid the $1650 plus the $59 down payment to reserve the package. NOW MY ROOF WAS LEAKING LAST NIGHT IN THE SAME AREA WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED. I feel like I've been ripped off!

Don't do it. The worst contractor experience I have had in 30 some years . The the father and son team--along with children showed up. There is still a leak in the same places that were supposed to be repaired. In addition, they damaged the ceiling drywall--one of the workers stepped on and cracked the ceiling drywall. The "Father" of the father son team denied that they caused the crack. I requested they look in the attic below the roof to see where the water had been coming from the reply was "I don't have to." While there is work is supposedly has a warranty, I would rather pay someone else than have them here again.

I called John Day after another company failed to show up. John Sr. quickly assessed the immediate problem and took pictures to show me where I had other concerns; raised shingles, nail pops, cracked seals, rusting around my chimney etc., which would result in additional leaks if not repaired. He reassured me that I did not need a new roof and that some maintenance is all I needed to extend the life of my roof for several years. The fact he didn't try to sell me a roof was refreshing. A lot of the company's I called wanted to send out a salesman, and I just wanted help with my leak. John Sr. and John Jr. completed the maintenance/repairs promptly and could not have been more pleasant or professional.

John Day and his son inspected my roof and thoroughly explained to and showed me the necessary work needed to stop a persistent leak. John also took photos and outlined the problem areas of my roof and what it would take to repair it. He was very personable, super fair and completed my roof repair the very next day after his inspection. I've already recommended John's service to a neighbor and I extremely satisfied with not only the work he completed but for the way he treated me as a client. John is top notch in the roofing business and a class act!

Another roofer told us we had to replace the entire front roof for $2000, and that our gutter was installed improperly and would need to be re-installed for $800. John quickly saw what was causing the roof leak and did the repair work straightaway. He examined the gutter and reassured me it was just blocked, and cleaned it out for no additional charge. He and his son were a pleasure to work with, they treat you like family and care more about giving a good service than about making a quick buck. We will definitely use them again and couldn't recommend them more highly.

Very sincere, professional, knowledgeable and responsive. He even came back and checked the roof again. He then provided pictures of all work.

John was extremely responsive and professional. He offered two options and gave his recommendation on which option would be best. He kept me informed of the progress of the job and reviewed it with me once it completed.

Both repairs went really well. He was great about explaining to me exactly what was happening and how he planned to fix it. Very professional, respectful, and easy to talk to. He was on time, very clean, and didn't try to up charge me. He is very trustworthy and price was less than a lot of other roofers who had suggested different fixes. Once John explained to me what the issues were, it was clear that the other roofers were going about it in a wrong and much more expensive way. I will use John as my go to roofer from now on. I highly recommend him.

It went really well. John came by, went up on the roof and let me know the overall condition, what repairs were needed, how he planned to address current leaks. Everything he said made sense, and he gave me tips on future care. He was able to get a crew by same day and all work was completed. Very clean work, professional, overall great experience.

Great service, friendly and professional. Took pictures of the issues to show me what needed to be done - also took after pictures so I could see all services were performed. Mr. Day is a lovely person, I am happy to recommend him to my friends and family that need his services! I'm glad I found him!

John and his team were nothing short of outstanding! Absolutely wonderful guys who did an incredible job and gave us the fairest price out of any other roofer we could find! If you need roof work done look no further!

We could not be more pleased with the service provided. They came highly recommended and I can fully endorse that, and then add some more praise. The inspection was prompt, and they team showed me pictures of the trouble spots, and provided explanations. They also gave some additional advice on maintenance. I was planning comparing several additional quotes, but these folks clearly know their trade and were very reasonably priced. They replaced multiple missing or damaged slates, caulked all vents and flashing where needed, and painted that black to match the slates. They also painted valleys black, and checked gutter nails and pushed part back in place where gutter was sagging & caulked corner, at no additional charge. They made my day!

John was very nice and give me a great job. He was clean and fast I will call him again for the other bedrooms

Good workmanship. I thought the labor costs to be rather high, but this was an emergency. I have used this provider for several years with few complaints.

John had repaired my roof a year ago. During recent wind storms some tiles were blown off the roof. He came out promptly and repaired the missing tiles and did not charge even though his base is more than 50 miles away. Very nice and honest people to do business with.
