 + -1 morePoor quality installation. Fireside did not brace the mantel from the underside, causing the mantel to shift, sink, and has caused major cracks around the perimeter of the mantel. Fireside didn't offer any resolution or help in correcting the problem, only that I should "move." I'm now suck with a lop-sided mantel. I will have to spend good money after bad to correct. I will not hire again. Hire at your own risk.

 + 1 moreThese guys just left here after fixing a minor issue that went wrong with the equipment installed in the chimney work they did for us in September. Both these experiences were great. No hassle, no attitude, and they came quickly with no charge for the repair. They have been amazing to work with, unfailingly honest, showed up on time, finished when they said they would, and were incredibly nice guys to have in our home while the work was being done to boot. Their price was fully 1/3 the price quoted to us by our original contractor and I think we got better quality than we would have had we gone with the original contractor quote. Highly recommend.

 + -1 moreThey were really helpful, gave us some good things to think about and told us to let them know when we were ready to proceed with the free in-home consultation. When we were ready, Tom (the owner) came out to our house and spent a good bit of time talking through what we wanted and what they offered, and we actually ended up deciding on a wood stove which cost less than the insert we originally thought we wanted. We appreciated that he wasn't trying to sell us the most expensive thing, but what he felt would be the best option for us. On the scheduled day of install (last week) it was brutally cold and windy. The installation team showed up cheerfully and performed the install (including getting up on the roof in the bitter wind) with great care even though it was SO COLD outside. I appreciated how precise they were in the installation, making sure they put the stove exactly where we wanted it, and even got out a tape measure to be sure it was perfectly centered in the old fireplace opening. They gave us some tips on building the best fires, and stayed until we got the first fire going to make sure we didn't have any questions. I was very impressed with the whole process and highly recommend them!

 + -1 moreMet with the owner at our home, discussed the project as well as some ideas for other stone work, he said he would give us a quote and even gave us a timeframe for starting and completing the sidewalk prior to Thanksgiving. Never got the quote or any response despite following up with them multiple times to ask for a response. Would not recommend this vendor - they wasted our time and it is now too late for us to get the work done by another company this fall as we wanted to do.
Description of Work: Contacted Fireside on the recommendation of a neighbor to get a quote for replacing our concrete sidewalk with stone.

Unfortunately, it turned out that would not be able to install a fireplace for us due to permitting regulations in our county. Nevertheless they were extremely helpful and still took the time to explain to us the different options of types of fireplaces available to us and the plusses and minuses of each. The information we received was much more complete than we had received at another business the previous week. If you live in Howard County, I would strongly recommend you consider them.

 + 0 moreTom came out and conducted a free estimate and gave us advice on the best model for our needs. We wanted a fireplace in a room with no existing fireplace or gas line. The installers were friendly, efficient and attentive to the details of cleaning up and explaining the features of the fireplace and mantle. We never got a competing estimate, so we're unsure how his prices measured up, dollar for dollar, to the competition. However, we got a ballpark quote from Ace Hardware in Ellicott City of $8-10K (including propane installation of about $800) so we believe Tom's price was fair. One of the things that drew us to his company was that they would handle the mantle installation as well. After calling a couple other fireplace retailers and installers that didn't do mantles, we were happy to learn that his installers could take care of both. His showroom was convenient to visit and we would certainly recommend his company to anyone interested in fireplace installation!

Description of Work: Cleaned fireplace, added ember material reset fan speed and flame height, cleaned area around fireplace, explained the fireplace controls and advised that ignition was without a pilot light - but with an igniter.

 + -1 moreWe selected the mantle from their website - they ordered it and finished it off for installation. Communication was a bit of an issue with our order getting lost but they ended up getting it sorted out. I would recommend just staying on top of them so things don't get 'lost'

 + 2 moreWe called the company and they said they would send the owner out to give us a quote. He was a bit late to the appointment, but explained another job ran long and we understood, not a big deal. We showed him the area in the yard where we wanted to build the patio and fire pit, and spoke a little about what we were looking for. He seemed in a rush to leave, took a quick look around and spoke briefly about materials he could use for the patio and then said he would email us a quote. We did not receive a quote until 2-3 weeks later, which was for as he explained the "lower end" materials and a slightly smaller version of what we had wanted. We decided not to move forward based on the high cost for something that was not what we wanted, and felt we didn't get great service from the limited interaction we had with the company. We are a young couple in a smaller home so this may have been a "throw away" quote thinking we couldn't afford or weren't serious about the project. We ended up building the project ourselves with materials purchased from the Stone Store.

The workers did a great job installing the unit and were very considerate by making sure my furniture and floors were covered up and protected while they worked. The owner (Tom) and his employees Tisha and Tracy are very good at what they do and are extremely knowledgable and responsive. I had been wanting to replace my fireplace for over two years. I had four companies come out and give me estimates. Fireside came in with the second cheapest bid. That is the only reason I gave them a "B" for pricing, however was very clear out of the four companies that fireside was the company to go with. They came across as the most knowledgable and honest. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants the job done right at a fair price.
Description of Work: Firestone pulled out my old pre-fabricated fireplace and replaced it with a new northstar heat & glo unit. They re-insulated my chase and replaced my entire flue. They also replaced the outside flashing.

We had originally contracted with a large landscape design company to build a patio with a custom fire pit. The contracted company was unable to complete the task. We called in Fireside (wish we would have used them for the whole project) and now have a gorgeous fire pit. From the start, Tom was courteous and professional. Our first sign that something was different from other contractors, was that he actually came and made a form mold of the pit to have the insert fabricated exactly to size. The insert arrived and was installed the same week. We cannot convey how superior the service that Fireside has provided us. Please do not hesitate to use this business. We give them our highest recommendation!

 + -1 moreI stated the out come of the purchase above. Fireside's actions display a complete lack of professionalism. They want the large sums of cash for the purchase but they and quot;do not serviceand quot; (their quote) their products. The problem is that no one else services their products either. My advice is to go with a company that will be there for the long haul. You can't even leave a message at Fireside...the recording will now allow it. Buyer beware...I am considering small claims court to recoup my $6,000 Fireside can come and get the stove...it is of no value if it will not distribute heat.
Description of Work: This is a buyer beware situation. Fireside is very nice when you are interested in purchasing, after that they have no interest in speaking to you. A little over a year ago we purchased a Jotul wood insert for our home. Fireside installed the insert and that went fine however, as I stated a little over a year later our stove stopped working (the blower stopped). We discovered through a phone call to Fireside that they do not service their own products. We now have an insert that doesn't work with no one to complete the repairs. This is a BIG problem because there is no one that services these stoves. I called the manufacturer in Maine and they told me to contact my dealer. Now, when I call Fireside during business hours there is a recording that simply states that you cannot leave a message. It took an act of God to get a hold of the manufacturer because when you go on their website they do not have a phone number listed and the phone number was initially not easy to find. You would think that there would be a contact number on the Jotul website...right? My advice to y'all is to go with a company that will stand by their products no matter what...Had I been told initially that they would not service my stove I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THIS STOVE FROM THEM. By my standards this was not an inexpensive purchase $6,000+ Shouldn't I have been specifically informed during the purchase that Fireside would not service the stove? My advice to any one considering a purchase of this type is to go with someone who will stand by their product.

 + -1 moreWe really liked the guy Tom, he pretty much did almost all the work himself, and he is also the one who runs the store that we went to; he is a very hard worker. They seemed professional, and were very good about cleaning up after themselves. Most importantly, we were having numerous things done at the same time and they did what they said they would do and did it on time. When one of the pieces was chipped, they came back and replaced it with no questions asked. They were more expensive but all the work and everything else was great.
Description of Work: We used Fireside Stone & Patio to do our fireplace. The person that we dealt with was Tom. We had the family room re-done and so they took out the old fireplace and put in a gas one.

 + -1 moreWe've had a standard wood-burning fireplace in the family room that made the room unbearable. Having a fire in it didn't warm the place up; when no fire was burning (or even using a duraflame log), there was a constant draft. Steve came, made estimate for a gas-burning insert. Quite pleasant and professsional. On day of install, a problem. Size of unit? This was over a year ago... I can't remember, but we almost came to a point of and quot;do not proceedand quot;. The guys kept their heads and worked it out. Were even great with my dogs. Things happen with projects. You learn more of the calibre of an organization when they rise to these circumstances. Room is so comfortable! My son used to prefer the basement (and Vornado heat) for his games. Now he's up here all the time.. Not a regret. Would do it, using them again in a heartbeat.

 + -1 moreWork was of good quality, but what was initially described to me by the owner as a one-day job took nearly a week to complete, with less than an hour of work actually performed on the scheduled day. As I said, the work was of good quality, and cleanup was professional, so I rate them good, but the delay of the project without warning or cause was unprofessional and keeps them from earning a higher score.
Description of Work: Removal and disposal of old zero-clearance wood fireplace and chimney. Installation of new fireplace & chimney of similar design. Job did not include reframing around fireplace or any surround, mantel or hearth work.

 + 0 moreAfter getting several quotes, my husband and I chose to work with Fireside to purchase a wood burning insert for our existing fireplace, and to completely reconfigure our fireplace layout. We are very pleased with our experience. We originally contacted Fireside via e-mail and received a response within 24 hours. We were able to promptly set-up a time for Tom (owner) to come to our home and give us a quote. While the quote from Fireside was not the lowest that we received, our gut instinct was to choose them anyway. The day before construction was set to beigin we received a friendly confirmation call to let us know when the crew would be arriving. they arrived on time, rearranged the necessary furniture, covered everything over with plastic, and constantly had a vacuum going to suck up most of the dust from the demolition process. After the old fireplace was demolished, the mason got to work laying the new firebrick, hearth, and surround. Demolition and construction of the new fireplace took 2 days, start to finish, and the crew was great throughout. After 48 hours to allow the new masonry work to dry a bit, the crew returned to install our chimney liner and insert. They were done in 3 hours. Very efficient. We love our new fireplace and are looking forward to many toasty warm fires this winter. We'd definitely recommend Fireside.
