Description of Work: Had a Ariens Snotek snow blower requiring carb repair and general maintenance. Very, very happy with service performed that included carb repair, new (ethanol free gasoline, fuel stabilizer, and major lube. Great job!!

 + -1 moreI brought the leaf blower in to Clark's on Monday 11/03/15. Three telephone calls later and 6 weeks later, I got a call from the service person that the blower was diagnosed and would take about another 2 weeks to complete the repair. For an off-season repair to take 6+ weeks is absurd! I will not use this store again. Further, I will not purchase a Stihl product again. A new blower is $ !39. To repair this 2-year old unit cost $ 91.58. I assumed when purchasing the Stihl that it was the Cadillac of units. I was really wrong! Last year, I purchased a Stihl trimmer based on the same assumption. I'm just waiting for it to stop operating also . Back to Sears for future purchases!

Description of Work: I took my Toror Lawn mower pulley to ACE Hardware on Route 40, Ellicott, MD on April 28, 2014. I called ahead to make sure they could fix the pulley. The Service Tech on the phone was very polite, professional and understanding. I had to call back and ask if they had a "special" type screw for this particular mower and "John" in the Service Dept. said he could take the screws I needed from an old junk mower they had. John said "I will take care of you Bob" and he did. Great place to deal with. I have been in this store previously and received all the help I needed.

They are as close as a mom and pop operation as you can get. They are personable and the prices are competitive. I favor them over big box stores.

 + -1 moreOverall, I love it at Clark's. I recommend everyone that doesn't know what they are doing, or wants better customer service to go there. Again, I have been there on some off days. I went on a Monday morning once, and that was a bad idea, every employee was restocking shelves, so it was harder to get help. If you need help, avoid early Monday mornings, but I understand businesses need to put stuff back on their shelves, so it didn't really bother me, I am just going to try and avoid going then in the future.
Description of Work: I had a great experience today at Clark's, which made me think to write a review here and from my visit last week on their glass and screen shop area as well. I have been going to Clark's for a few months now and man, I wish I had come here sooner! I have been going to Home Depot right up the street for the longest time to buy mulch, which usually you can get for $2.99 on sale for 7 bags, which works out to be about $22. I recently found out at Clark's you can get 6 bags for about $21. I always thought that Home Depot was cheaper. Turns out Home Depot's bags are 2 sq. cubic ft. while Clark's is 3. So long story short, I actually get 18 cubic feet of mulch from Clark's for $21 dollars, while at Home Depot I pay $22 dollars for 14 cubic feet! So glad I decided to buy mulch today at Clark's instead (and some other things)! On top of all of this, the service at Clark's is soooo much better. I just get avoided by employees at Home Depot, and although sometimes I need to ask for help at Clark's, they always are more knowledgeable in comparison. I will always shop at Clark's first now. I think I do pay more on some things, but I have done a lot of comparison shopping between the two, and I just think Home Depot knows how to market better. I know I pay more on some and less on others, but I think I still break about even at Clark's when comparing the two companies. I have had experiences with some employees at Clark's that are just as bad as Home Depot's, but I have gone there enough now to know about 90% of the employees know what they are talking about and just ask to talk to someone else if you think one of the younger guys helping you doesn't seem to know what they are talking about (I did that a few weeks ago).

 + -1 moreOverall it was awesome, timely service. I read a review in a different place complaining about the cost for repairing screens and that it was a rip off. I think the service was excellent, and I can see how if a screen or window is in really bad shape it wouldn't be worth getting it repaired, and it would be less expensive buying a new one. I think that is what impressed me the most with my experience there, they didn't try to mislead me and take my money. I received an honest opinion and great help, that's hard to find sometimes these days.
Description of Work: I was pleasantly surprised when I found out Clark's can fix most screens and windows since I usually go there for regular hardware items. I really didn't want to go through a contractor or window company to get my screen fixed. It only costed $20 to have my screen redone. Nothing was wrong with it, as I am sure the price would creep up quickly. The service was great. I turned it in and actually received a call back within two hours saying it was finished. Apparently they told me the winter is the best time to have this stuff repaired because it is the slowest season, and spring is the busiest. So, if you need a window or screen to be fixed, now is a good time to do it before it gets busy. While I picked up my screen I inquired about getting glass replaced in my door. They explained that since the glass piece was so large they legally have to use tempered glass for safety reasons, which they explained in detail. The young woman helping me said right off the bat that my best option was probably to simply buy a new door from the original company my door was manufactured with because they make it directly and it is probably less expensive, but she said she would get a quote for me anyway just to see. They can't make tempered glass there, they have to order it from another manufacturer. They instantly called up the company and received a quote. The quote was high, but like I had said she warned me ahead of time that it was probably going to be the case. However, I really appreciated the service of finding out what was the best option for me. Not many companies will do that, let alone Home Depot down the road.

Description of Work: Company does not work on McCullough brand trimmers. They only work on Steel brand. I never got to use them. They quickly answered the phone with a friendly voice. I was disappointed that they only work on one brand of trimmer.

 + -1 moreThey will do small engine repair, which covers multiple categories like portable generators, lawn mowers, and snow blowers. They charge a $35 deposit to get started. For my repairs, they first tried a couple of simple fixes to get it started. This included changing the spark plug (I had the wrong size in it) and replacing the starter module. When this did not solve the problem, they rebuilt the carburetor, which ultimately got it working again. They will call and get your authorization before doing any repairs. Alternatively, you could preauthorize a certain dollar level of repair right up front, although I did not take that route (for example, letting them do anything that would cost $200 or less). The experience was very positive and they did a great job explaining the issues. Their store hours are also convenient, which was another big plus.

 + -1 moreSomeone told me that people don't do this kind of thing anymore, so I was thrilled to notice that my favorite hardware store offered screen repair. We drop a screen off and they call anywhere from a few days to a week later to say it's done. What could be simpler? My only "peeve" is that sometimes my husband forgets to specify the color so we've got a few that don't quite match, but I put them in different rooms with only a single window, so no one knows but me!
