First State Garage Door

I called First State Garage Door after a company I'd given business to prior seemed 'too busy'. {They tried to put me off 4 days despite that my garage door would not open with my vehicle stuck inside (!) They finally agreed to come out some time in the evening but would not give a time}. I decided to check Angi's List and found this company! Gavin from First State Garage Door was so knowledgeable he was able to diagnose my issue over the phone before even coming out!! He gave me a price, informed me of the warranty and gave me a SAME DAY 2 hour window! He and his associate called half way through that window to inform me they might need a little more time which was fine. They got there very soon after the original time window. They were pleasant, polite, efficient, thorough and fixed my door in approximately 30 minutes! I will definitely call them again for any garage or garage door opener issues and would never again consider calling anyone else!! Very Impressive! :)

Frank at First State Garage Door replaced my old Craftsman 1/2 garage door opener. I contacted him on Angie's List. Frank got back to within a short time. I told him that I needed to replace my opener as the motherboard was most likely bad. He asked me a few questions and informed me of the brand he uses and the warrenty he provides as well. I agreed to price and time and a few days later Frank arrived to replace opener. Frank was on time, knowledgeable and he installed opener without any issues. Price was also good as well. And I got a nice upgrade to a Chamberlain 3/4 HP. I would definitely use company again for any garage door needs.

Owner said he did not do the very specific work I needed, but went out of his way to find a business that did. He spent a fair amount of time on the phone with me, and even followed up. I'm sure I will use this business in the future.

Excellent, prompt service. Tasks included adding reinforcing strips to the garage doors, cleaning and greasing the pulleys as appropriate, and straightening and re-seating one of two garage doors that had jammed and popped some seams. Frank advised me when he came out to inspect the doors and give a quote that everything he would do was well within my evident level of handiness, and even tried talking me out of paying him to do the job. But with little kids complicating my "spare" time I hired him anyway. He came out the following day with the needed tools and supplies and finished all the work quickly and efficiently. Now I have another problem with that same old door, unrelated to the work he did 2 years ago, and will be giving him a call shortly! Highly recommended.

Quick response, easy scheduling, and efficient repair service. Simple enough work this time around that I could have done myself, time and small children permitting. But it was handled with a level of professionalism such that I will not hesitate to call First State Garage Door for future garage door needs.

We had service done by a larger company (national) in 2015 and they were good, but very expensive. I read the reviews of this smaller company on Angie's List and decided to give them a try. They were excellent! Phil came out to provide service and he took a look at the door and basically said, "I think you need some WD40". He tried it and it worked like a charm. He then educated both my husband and me on the type of system we had and how to adequately provide maintenance so that we did not run into this or other problems in the future. That alone was worth the $50 for him to come out. We would ABSOLUTELY use them in the future. They didn't try to get us to purchase items and didn't overcharge us at all. He was fair, knowledgeable, professional and just a good service provider. If you want quality service at a fair price, these are your folks to go to!

First State Garage Door is great! A cable slipped off of a pulley as my garage door was opening. I was able to get it back in place, but I noticed it was extremely frayed and would likely soon break. I search Angie's List and found First State. (I had used one of the national service providers in the past to change a spring, never again! The other company overcharged me and tried to tell me that their spring was better quality than the ones found at Sears. Complete BS!!) Well, at any rate, I left a message at First State, and Phil got back to me within a couple hours. We scheduled an appointment for him to stop by the next morning at 8am. Phil showed up on time, and had both cables replaced in about 15 minutes. He also lubricated the rollers on the door for me, and told me the 27 year old motor still looked like it was in good shape. If you want good and honest service on your garage door, at a reasonable price, c ll First State Garage Door. I highly recommend these guys. (Also, stay away from the national chains!)

The garage door would no longer open and close and after doing a bit a research, my husband and I decided it wasn't something we wouldn't be able to fix ourselves. I found First State Garage Door on Angie's List and liked that it was a smaller company with only a few employees. I feel like you always get more personal service and First State absolutely delivered! I called on a Monday and left a message about the problem and Phil got back to me about an hour later. We scheduled an appointment for the next day. Around 5pm on Monday, Phil gave me a call and said I was on his way home and would I like for him to stop in to take a quick look. I said that was fine and he came over and looked at the problem. Phil said that most of the time this was an issue with a bad motor. My problem turned out to be a temperamental motor that was acting up due to old age. After he fixed our problem, I asked if he thought I should get a new motor. Most people would immediately say yes to get more income, but Phil said he would use it until it no longer worked. On top of that, when we asked what we owed him, he said NO CHARGE! He said it was an easy problem for him to fix, it was his business, and that he loves what he does. Phil absolutely went above and beyond for us and will forever have our business and we would highly recommend him to anyone we know.

We contacted First State Garage after learning the company that had installed our automatic garage doors 3 years ago went out of business. I called and left a message with First State, and received a callback within 15 minutes. Phil (the technician) was extremely pleasant and was at my house within 20 minutes (NO service charge). One of our garage doors had a roller that kept popping out, knocking our garage door off track. The other garage door wouldn't close without us having the override it by holding down the button until the door had completely closed. Phil fixed the first garage door, and examined the second, diagnosing it with a down sensor. Because the previous company had fished the wire behind the dry wall, Phil did not know where the break was so we had to get new sensors. He installed them quickly and ran the wires discreetly. Phil also greased the rollers and hinges of each garage door so they now open and close much more quietly (greatly appreciated since our young sons' bedrooms are above the garage). Phil proactively notified me of a 15% off coupon, to top off the great service. I thoroughly researched and called 4 companies before choosing First State Garage, and I am so glad I went with them. I filed their card for future use, and I highly recommend them.

Frank Kifer was extremely helpful. He gave me the info I needed to get started. After I did the legwork, Frank picked up the panel for me at Home Depot, brought it to my house and replaced the old with the new. He is as professional as they come. Every thing went well and I would recommend First State to anyone. It was a pleasure to have someone do a job and do it correctly.

Went extremely well. Contacted First State Garage Door on Mon 7/27 Service Person (was it Greg?) contacted me within hours and scheduled to come by the next day to quote. I was considering replacing the door with an insulated one, but he advised me that the existing door was in good shape ( I had insulated it myself). So he advised me to keep the existing door. Greg scheduled to come by the next day. He arrived exactly on time, took a few hours, reinforced existing door, and installed garage door opener. Excellent, professional, timely service. Couldn't ask for better service. A+

I had a builder quality garage door (Wayne Dalton) since 2002 which had a proprietary lift system that went bad around 2008 or 2009. First State did the initial work to replace the Wayne Dalton lift system with the industry standard torsion spring system, plus replaced the rollers, aligned the door, etc. We had some additional maintenance work done on the door during August 2013. Overall, just superior work and great local guys who take their reputation very seriously. The torsion spring broke on Saturday morning (4/11/15) and I immediately called First State and left a v-mail message. They called back exactly as their v-mail message indicated and they were at the house by 10a on Monday morning. Throughout all of our experiences with First State, they were always extremely punctual. I had the receipt from the original work that was done which was quite a bit outside of the documented warranty, therefore I fully expected to pay the repair costs for the broken spring. First State inspected the broken spring and remembered doing the original work and stood firmly behind their craftsmanship, parts, and their reputation. While the parts were years out of warranty, First State replaced the spring for no charge!! Top notch punctuality, craftsmanship, and professionalism. Very highly recommend this company.

Responded promptly to e-mail request to schedule appointment. Arrived earlier than scheduled appointment time. Promptly performed all work necessary. Completed job timely. Provided explanation of all work completed. Provided instruction and demonstrated proper maintenance for garage, how and when to adjust my door opener and how to replace my bottom garage door gasket. Prompt, courteous, clean appearance, knowledgeable and fairly priced ,which are all reasons why I highly recommend this vendor and will use them for my garage door service in the future.

First State (FS) replaced my broken garage door torsion spring. They came within 4 hours of asking for their services and replace the spring in ~1 hour. Old spring was not color coded so they conducted calculations to size the new springs. It works great now. They were very professional and knowlegeable. Repair cost was on par with the market price or may be slightly on high side.

Very quick and straightforward. Pricing was as promised. New system works very well. Work was clean and efficient. I was very pleased that the work was completed on time, on budget, and to my satisfaction. Very hassle-free!
