It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine. The guy was very knowledgeable and showed me his product. I was just curious to hear what he would have to say. I was satisfied with what he had to say but I’m not gonna purchase it right now anyway. I was kind of a new product to me, I have to research it. But everything went well. He’s a nice and professional guy. I would study other options before I would make a decision. It’s not something I would have to have done at all but it’s something I might want to. I waited a while before I scheduled the appointment.
Description of Work: Basement Systems USA came out and inspected the foundation on the outside of the house. I have a crawl space underneath and he had a really heavy plastic that they would put down over the dirt floor and on the concrete walls and seal that up.

Provider arrived promptly for the appointment. He was courteous and professional. He recommended a system of drainage for the basement and reinforcement for the block basement walls. I also interviewed several other providers and chose not to have this one do the work. His estimate was among the highest and his technical solution seemed risky.
Description of Work: Evaluated basement conditions.

Provider sent out a salesman to assess the situation and make a recommendation. I own a turn of the century brownstone and basement had a number of age related issues. The salesman appeared to be knowledgeable. He inspected the area that was leaking, made a recommendation and answered my questions. After I signed the contract and scheduled the work I received a pre-installation letter from the provider explaining their requirements for the installation of the sump pump. Among the requirements was the need for an electrical outlet in the area where the pump was to be installed. The salesman did not mention this requirement when he inspected the area where the work was to be done. When I called the provider to complain about this I was told that salesman made a mistake. I had to re-schedule the work so that I could hire an electrician to install an outlet. On the date that the work was to be done the crew showed up on time and started work right away. Three hours into the work the newly installed outlet stopped working during the use of a jackhammer. An alternater and temporary source of electricity had to be found. I was then asked where on the exterior of the house the drain for the flow of water was to be installed. I told the crew that the salesman said it would be connected to an existing drain pipe and asked if they had received this information from the salesman. I was told that the crew had no communications with the salesman. For me, this was the last straw. I would not recommend using this company.
Description of Work: Provider assessed situation with leaking in basement and recommended a solution that involved installation of a sump pump. I accepted the recommendation, signed a contract for the work to be done and gave the provider an advance.

Response from Basement Systems USA
We have tried several times to contact [member name removed] to try and resolve this matter. Unfortunately he has not responded. His claim that we did not communicate the need for an electrical outlet is inaccurate. If he had glanced at his contract he would have noticed that the installation of an electrical outlet is not on the list of things purchased from us. He also apparently did not take the time to read the clearly written statement that mentions the fact that we are no licensed electricians and do not install electrical outlets. I would think a customer has to take some responsibility for not reading a simple and specific written contract. In addition to this contract we also sent a friendly reminder 2 weeks prior to installation that we do not install outlets. The customer was not satisfied with this and had every opportunity to cancel this project but choose not to. I believe that our company did a thorough job of communicating all details to the customer. As far as the popping of the breakers during installation the problem was immediately resolved and was found to be due to old and low amp breakers. Our foreman also informed us that he did in fact know where the discharge line was to be installed but was simply confirming with the customer. [member name removed] chose to view this as incompetence. In my view I feel this customer is being quite hard on us. The project was completed to perfection and was paid upon completion. We are still hoping that [member name removed] will contact us in rearguards to this matter. We are always willing to go the extra mile to satisfy all of our customers. I bought a big deal for basement waterproofing. Our basement is pretty dry, but we have one location that leaks down the side wall. There was no obvious reason for the leak, so I bought the deal so that someone could come and diagnose the problem, which he did. He was punctual and knowledgeable, and he did what I wanted him to do, which was to diagnose the cause of the leak. While he was at our house, he also double-checked for other problems etc as part of his service. We were satisfied with the service provided.
Description of Work: Checked our basement for water issues and damage.

A technician came to my home on time and completed a thorough inspection. He gave m a quote for the repairs that was approximately $7000,00. I was given two quotes for two different options. I decided not to move forward with this company because I had similar work done on half of my basement by another company that was under warranty. I did not want to void out my warranty with the other company nor did I have the money to redo the entire basement so that the work by Basement Systems USA would be fully warranted. Overall, the quote was fine and the professionalism was great. I just had to many other factors going on to move forward with this company beyond the Inspection that I purchased through the Big Deal.

The man came out and he spent about 20-25 minutes. He looked around and I told him about the problems. I asked if he could write me up a report and he said yes. I just wanted it because if I just put the house up for sale or something like that. He said that he would send me an email and I never got anything. When I bought the big deal, they called me right away. The person whom I spoke didn't come to my house, but I didn't care. The person who came out was knowledgeable and easy to deal with, but I never got a report. They called right away and came out when they said they would be here. They didn't give me a report. The price was fine for what they did. The guy came out and I showed him what I was concerned about. He said there were no issues, so I guess it was worth something.

I purchased a big deal from them and their services turned out well. We have to use a dehumidifier in December continuously as we have humidity problem. We asked them if we could do something so that we do not have to use the dehumidifier and he said no you cannot do anything because the humidity is there and you have to use the dehumidifier. He suggested buying a big dehumidifier that they sell for $1800, but we thought we should not buy it as our current dehumidifier is working fine. Even though he suggested using a big dehumidifier, he did not convince us well as why we have more humidity in the basement. He came at the right time.
Description of Work: Basement Systems USA, Inc. just inspected and gave us some suggestions on our dehumidifier.

Horrible experience. This was my husband and I's first major home remodeling project and unfortunately we experienced all the things you come to hate about contractors - a great salesman and set up in the beginning. They gave us a wonderful presentation that centered around high quality products and customer service. Then once money the was paid things started going down hill. First they started a week later than my scheduled start date which I booked (with a down payment) 4 months in advance. Once the team began working my complaints centered around 2 big areas: 1) Poor Workmanship - with a basement project everyday you get to see the progress and what was and wasn't done well. Consistently I would come home to find walls that were not being cut straight and as result are not flush, sections of the frames that looked bent or not straight, chips in the doors that can't be repaired. Anything we mentioned to them they would attempt to fix (by covering it up) but I don't think it should be your job to have to spend so much time inspecting and making sure they were doing quality work. In their company brochure they have a quote that states, ? Doing a thing right so you don?t have to do it over, will consume less resources and cost less than doing it twice or more.? They don't live into this. 2) Declining Customer Service - as I said in the beginning they put on their best behavior but that went down week after week. In the beginning we would get calls at the end of each day on what was accomplished and what was planned for the next day, that stopped after awhile. They started taking less care of our home, including leaving cigarette buds in the backyard. Slow progression of the project. I know its a known fact that project will always be longer than what a contractor tells you. What I didn't like here though was how each week the time they spent in working each day kept decreasing. If they stayed committed to putting in a full day work each day the project would have not extended 2 weeks past the originial timeline. What I can say positive about the company is that the product they use, these Everlast Walls, does seem like a high quality product. It looks nice, seems to provide good insulation and to date we have not had any water issues. A quality product that is not backed with quality customer service is not worth the money to me though - especially $50,000. To show you how the poor customer service extends even after your project is complete. They finished our basement in May and I had a issue with a light dimmer installed since then. My husband and I have been calling them for 3 months now trying to get someone to come out and fix it, We've left messages and can not even get a call back. Again they are not living into what their website says - we take pride in the company?s good reputation and a personal interest in the satisfaction of our customers. Don't use them.

I have a row house in Baltimore City with what can only be described as a "less than a crawlspace" crawlspace. I wanted the inspection to see if they could put down a vapor barrier, but as the space was so tiny (not even room for someone to get into it) that it would be impossible. He gave me some good advice about how to DIY and how to keep the area dry and mold free.

The person who responded and showed up was very courteous and professional. He walked me through how there was nothing we needed to be concerned about with regard to the foundation cracks that we have and suggested some ways to make them more visually appealing. I was pleased that there was no attempt to sell me anything related to the cracks and that the inspector made an honest assessment of how nothing needed to be done. The inspector also provided me with an estimate for sealing our crawlspace with a product called "clean space". I didn't request this product and it was a bit of a sales pitch - including a canned video demonstrating the product. However, the estimate was reasonable if it was something I was interested in doing, and I would definitely call this company if we ever decided that we needed the crawl space encapsulated (to reduce mold, moisture and make it a clean storage space). The inspector also encouraged us to purchase a dehumidifier to help address some of the humidity issues in our basement / crawlspace. We did that and it has made a marked improvement in the comfort of our (finished) basement and attached storage area. Overall I was very happy with the service, just wish the inspector had dialed down the sales pitch a little for the crawl space encapsulation system. But I understand that these discounted inspections (I purchased the inspection as a "big deal" on angie's list) are a way to get in the door and provide an opportunity to introduce potential customers to their range of products.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. The fellow that came was apparently well-versed with what he was telling. I was a little skeptical, it was much of a deal though. He didn't show up when he was supposed to and I didn't know that heft a message on my work phone. This was a Saturday when he came so I didn't get the message. He was 30 minutes late. I tried to call the number that I had with the company and when you call that number, the first thing they say is free inspection. So I'm wondering how much of a deal was this really if they offer free inspections. I think the guy has a good product and he is well-versed in what to do on a basement or a crawl space. It seems like a company that cares about good customer service. He apologized and said that he didn't have a phone number for me at home. So what we asked him to do is get a phone number where someone could be reached at the time of appointment. But everyone I talked to was polite, pleasant and I think I'm a little skeptical now. He was nice enough. The company seems solid, they've been in business for a while. I don't know if I would take advantage of what they offer or not although it seems like it might be of benefit to me. He was professional but because I had a full day of stuff scheduled and he showed up half an hour late, he threw me off all day. So he had to cut short his presentation and there may have been some information that he didn't share with me. I did ask what's the difference between what he's doing for me today and the free inspection that they offer on their company greeting and he kinda blew it off, he didn't really give me an explanation. So that's what makes me think that if I had called them out of the blue, I would have gotten the same thing for nothing. I got a call the same day after I made the purchase so in that regard, they were very responsive. But when I was trying to find out on Saturday why he wasn't there when he was supposed to be, there was nobody to answer the phone and I mentioned it to him and he said that there was only 3 people in the office. The fact that you can't get a hold of anybody when you have an appointment was a little disconcerting but that happens. When he got there, he answered all the questions I had and kept saying, "If you have anymore questions, e-mail me, call me," so in that regard he was open in talking to me again. He had the equipment he needed. He told me the things he thought I should know about.
Description of Work: The advertisement on Angie's List said it was an inspection with a written report and the guy from Basement Systems USA did the inspection. The only paper that I got from him were 2 pieces of paper he printed from his computer were the 2 different prices on what options I chose. There was no report unless he considers that a report.

They did alright. Fixing the cracks went well, even thought I had to go down and clean up some of the residue after they finished. The downspout works better than it did, but water still gathers at it's base - though not as bad as it did before.

They were very good. They've been putting them on for years and they're very professional and they did a great job. I was very happy with them. They cleaned up after themselves. It took them 2 days to do the job. The person who came to evaluate the situation was very knowledgeable and was just a real nice guy. He wasn't really pushy. Miguel, who was the foreman, just explained everything that they were gonna do. He followed through with everything. It was a big job and they took care of it. It was just great.

Basement Inspection: Gary arrived exactly on time. He is wonderful individual. I didn't feel any pressure with what was described to me for my basement. We discussed all of my option. I was happy with my decision during and after I signed the proper papers. My install was scheduled that very day and in less than 2 weeks I have a new basement. Installation of the Sump Pump: My sump pump was installed without too much interruption to my family life. My basement looks amazing. The waterproofing material and chair rail looks great. It hadn't rained much since the installation, but I am confident that there will be no more problems in my basement with leaking.

What they did was quite good and we were very happy with them. They have their own equipments and different things that they use like sump pumps and that sort of things. They did a very good job. They had an engineer that came to give us a quote and so forth and he was very professional. They drained the water into a system like a sump pump. They put in two big metal bars and did other things and it is a whole system to make sure to keep the humidity below the house low. Ever since they have done that it has been good. We were having a problem with humidity getting up into the house. They come once a year and do service to check the humidifiers and things. It was a really good big process. The man was very professional. The price was good. The quality has been very good it has been keeping the humidity down and now it is 37 percent when it was running 60 percent or 55 percent. The engineer they sent out initially was good and he knew the water problem. The workers were Hispanic and didn’t speak English but worked very hard down there.
Description of Work: I used Basement Systems USA as we have a car place here and it is damp in Delaware because the water flow is very high. We had problems in the false basement and they did the whole drainage system all around and had to drill the concrete all around the interior which is three and half feet high and it is a very hard job.
