+ 15 moreOverall, everything went extremely well. There were hiccups here and there but Karel quickly overcame the difficulties. Several times, Karel went with me to select products and transported them in his truck for me. Karel's thoroughness and good planning ceertainly paid off. Some of the projects took a little longer than he originally anticipated mostly due to unexpected surprises that could not have been known until encountered. Karel did not rush the job just to finish it. Instead, he maintained a high quality of skilled craftsmanship and care. There were summer days that he and his crew worked ten hours as well as the weekend. Karel always inspected the work as it progressed and would keep me apprised of the results. Though most of the big things have been done in the house, I will continue to employ Karel for the smaller jobs and the on-going maintenance. Most of all, I truly appreciate Karel's integrity and skills and abilities. His pricing is very fair and he is worth every penny and then some. I have trusted him for years to do the job correctly and to keep the house safe when we went away for a week while the siding was being put up. I am available to anyone who wishes to communicate with me directly regarding Straka Contacting LLC.
Description of Work: From small jobs to large ones, from emergency repairs to planned major projects, I have had Straka Contracting work on my house since 2005. With the exception of electrical and plumbing, Straka Contracting has been exclusively my contractor of choice. 1) 2005: Repaired wood deck, power washed and stained deck and fence. 2) 2006 – 2008: Removed vinyl flooring, wallpaper and original fixtures from three bathrooms. Installed new ceramic floors, thresholds, toilets, sinks with hardware, ceramic counters, plumbing connections, caulking and electrical dimmer switches. All floors were properly fitted with hand cut tile molding, grouted and sealed. After prepping painted walls, door and ceiling of one of the bathrooms (primer and two coats). (We painted the other two.) Installed new door handles and wall fixtures. 3) 2009: Removed wallpaper, vinyl flooring and carpeting from hall, laundry room and garage entrance areas. Installed ceramic floors, thresholds, all floors were properly fitted with hand cut tile molding, grouted and sealed. After prepping, painted walls, doors, trim and ceilings (primer, two coats) and alcove for washing machine and dryer and pantry. Installed shelving in pantry and garage entrance area, new hardware, catch basin for washing machine, and plumbing and venting attachments. 4) 2010: Removed cedar siding exterior (3 sides of end-of-unit town home) and all wood (soffits, molding, window frames and pillar). Increased R-rating by adding additional insulation throughout all exterior walls. Installed Hardy-plank for all three sides and replaced the exterior wood with it, caulked and sprayed stain (two coats). Rebuilt wood frame for second floor balcony. Replaced wood deck and railings with new wood and railings and Trex- like rail covering. Removed existing gutters and down spouts and replaced with new ones. Removed old chimney cap and installed a new one. 5) 2011: Removed wallpaper from kitchen and family room. After prepping, painted entire first and part of second floor hallway walls, ceilings, vaulted ceiling, closets, and stairwell and trim (primer and two coats). Removed vinyl floor in kitchen after moving appliances and installed ceramic tile, floors were properly fitted with hand cut tile molding, grouted and sealed. Replaced appliances. Removed carpeting from entire first floor. Installed wood floor with shoe molding, hardware and new door seals. Repaired damaged floor and then leveled flooring board. 6) 2012: Small jobs. Cleaning gutters. Repaired leak from skylight. Caulked existing exhaust vent pipes on roof. We encountered a leak in the roof when Hurricane Sandy hit. Karel came over during the storm, climbed into the attic and installed a catch pan to stop the water from coming into the bathroom. This item plus gutter guards are on the agenda for 2013.
