They were very nice but couldn't accommodate the dates I needed the work done.

This was our second time using S&J. They did my office back in April and I couldn't have been happier with the turn out. When I called about needing a fan installed in our upstairs bathroom and possibly remodeling the downstairs bathroom, I learned that there were some issues personally going on with the owners and that someone else that they work with was going to come out to get the scope of the project and provide a quote. This person ended up doing the job as well, and did some things really well, some really NOT well, and left others unfinished. Knowing that this isn't how S&J works, I contacted Steve and told him about the project and how I was disappointed, giving them the chance to make it right before moving on. Steve came out to check out the bathroom and was appalled at how it was left. He brought in a crew for 2 days to make it right and the bathroom is now so beautiful that I got a little teary the first time I saw it. HUGE difference, beautiful work, and definitely the standard of work that S&J is known for. The person who originally botched the job is no longer working for the company so no worries there for anyone who is looking into using them. He also was never authorized to actually take the job, from what I understand. The important part here to note is the S&J does amazing work, they are really dedicated to customer satisfaction, and they are a family run business- run by good people. I'm glad that I found them on Angie's List when I did my office build earlier this year- they will be our painters and remodelers as long as they're in business and we're in the state.

Due to a repiping of my house earlier in the year, I had approximately eight sections of drywall in need of repair throughout my house. I called S&J Painting and Remodeling of Elkridge to review the situation and provide an estimate. Jerry Dix the owner arrived and spent approximately a half hour reviewing the locations and extent of the needed work. An estimate was sent by email (my choice). The only mistake was a section of repair left off the estimate. After a couple back and forths concerning the additional section, a new estimate was delivered and they were chosen. After a day or two, I received a call from Stacey concerning the start date and length of time needed. The start date was several weeks from then; but, the person who would be performing the work was an excellent drywall person which was my main concern. The first day arrived and I received an email stating the approximate time of his arrival. Two people arrived on time and after showing the areas of work, they began and I left them alone. It took slightly less time than anticipated. The quality of the completed work was excellent, the workers were courteous and cleaned up each day. I was completely satisfied with the entire process with S&J.

Excellent service from start to finish. The quote was very competitive and the two painters that did the job were punctual, professional and finished the job to a high standard. Would definitely use S&J Painting again.

The work was fine. They were certainly prompt, courteous, and we didn't have any problems!

2 guys came for 2 1/2 days; estimate/quote was based on 3 days. They were quiet, cleaned up nicely and did a fine job. Not too much to it.

Absolutely excellent job. Took a day longer than projected, but the quality of the work was fantastic. Part of the reason for the extra day was to repair a floating crack in the foyer ceiling due to defective work by the builder. Alex and Dustin did a fantastic job and Jerry's recommendation to use matte finish was perfect. Everything turned out absolutely great.

I did not like the work they did in the amount of time that they had. He just spent just about all day on that one cabinet. I would never use them again.

I called Jerry and spoke with him about a quote to come out and give me an estimate. He came out on time and gave the estimate. I liked Jerry's personality as well as his price so I signed the contract. The crew showed up on the agreed upon date and time. Jerry's assistant Jonathan was in charge. 2 days into the project Jonathan called me and sad that they needed more cash to complete the "mud work." I asked him why since the contract called for 4 days of mud work and it was only 2 days into the project. He told me that they had actually given me 4 days of mud work and explained that a day of mud work was 1 man for 8 hours and since they had 2 men for 2 days I had actually gotten 4 days. I told him that I would talk to Jerry about it. I called Jerry and told him what happened. He told me that he understands what I'm saying and that it wouldn't be right to come back after the contract was agreed upon and he said that he would have to eat the cost that was asked for. I said good. Jonathan called me at the end of the week and said the job was complete. I went to inspect the job and found that in several areas the plaster work was not completed as agreed. I pointed these out to Jonathan and he replied that "I didn't want to spend any more money so this is it!" I looked at him and told him that I was going by what the contract said. I couldn't afford to wast any more time since I had an inspection coming up. A couple of days later I thoroughly inspected and found that a door that was supposed to be painted was not and did it myself. These are small issues but I feel that his contract needs to be specific when it talks about man hours. Explain to his potential customers what a "day" of mud work means. In my contract it specified $800-$1100 for mud work. I thought that would cover any additional monies that would be needed. I was really disappointed to find that Jerry's guys hadn't fully completed the job as Jerry and I had discussed. In any case, the job looks fairly good.

S&J sent Steve the contractor to meet with us to go over the Job scope, and he understood we need it done soon, due to it's a Rental property,

It was very good. The owner of the service called because there was a personal tragedy or crisis and he wanted to assure that the services will still be done. He was accommodating. One of the workers provided us with information regarding the spot we had on the ceiling and he actually completed the project without me having to go to the store to do something extra.

The team started strong but did routinely leave a messy job site and broke a number of flower pots. Communication with team was not always great (our contact went through 3 different phone numbers and failed to give us the new ones) but you got the sense they did care about the job. This team might be better suited for customers who have remodeling experience because we were often asked to do our own measuring, ordering and pick up of materials. Sometimes when we made a mistake and ordered the wrong items, the team failed to point it out and would do an installation that would later need to get fixed. We wish the team would have communicated better to prevent these situations. Had a few surprises about costs at the end as well due to the same problem. They did a good job for the bid and were always courteous but there were some headaches along the way.

S&J did a good job; the estimate was more than we wanted to pay for it but seems like everything is more expensive now. The estimate was also very competitive with others we received. The workers came on time and worked for 2.5 days and did a very good job. Also they paid attention to detail and were pleasant to interact with. The only one negative was that it took a while to communicate with the office, but on their website it said that they had an accident so we certainly could understand the delay. Another somewhat annoying thing is that they only accept payment by check, which seems to be a widely utilized practice, but we'd have preferred to pay with a credit card. On the whole though, I would hire them again and I am entirely satisfied with the experience.

The deal was advertised as two painters for one day for 8 hours each. All contact with the company was through email. One painter showed up on the scheduled day and said he would be there for two days--I wasn't notified of that change ahead of time. Because I wasn't working, it was inconvenient, but not a huge deal that it would be two days instead of one. But since we don't leave any contractors in the house alone, if I were working that week, it would have been a very big deal. The first day the painter left after 6 1/2 hours. The next day it snowed but he did show up and stayed for about 6 hours because he finished the things I had on my list to be painted. I will say he did a good job; the room looks great. If I were to do this again, however, I would make a longer list of things I wanted to be done and verify all information with a phone call to the company.

I purchased a Big Deal for a handyman for a day. The service provider never got back to me about scheduling or completing the service. There were some health issues in the company so it didn't seem like it was going to work out.

Angie's List big deal. I had drywall damage from a recent storm (leaky roof). They fixed the drywall and painted over it with paint that I supplied. They did a good job and were able to repair the damage.

My email after the job was finished says it all: "the guys did a fantastic job. This house was the model for the neighborhood and the painting they did, with detailed and patient preparation, was significantly better than the original paint job. I will gladly be a reference for any potential clients for you."

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was okay. It was around $500 for 2 painters for the entire day. I just felt that for 8 hours, they didn't do much. The work that they did was great but it was just a very small amount and I felt that they could have done a lot more. I think they were very slow so that's just my only gripe about the work. The 2 sections that they did was good. They did a nice job on the paint but it was just the speed.

After receiving and reviewing estimates from 6 contractors (out of the 9 or so I called or sent emails to), Jerry's bid was in the mid-range and competitive. He spelled out exactly what would be done. Communications with him and his wife were timely and professional. Jerry's company was one of the two I seriously considered. I went with the other company mostly because they could start the job within a week. It was a tough choice but my wife wanted the work done sooner than later. Based on my dealings with S&J Painting and Remodeling I will definitely consider Jerry's company for future work and I urge you to do the same. Give them a call - they are good people.

The provider was timely and professional. They completed the job sooner than anticipated. The attention to detail and clean appearance of the lines in the tile was awesome! We were very satisfied with the service we received and would definitely use them again.

I'm very happy with the results. The painters did a good job prepping the area and made sure I knew that more paint would be needed before they ran out. They were very careful about spilled paint and making sure the carpet on the stairs and in the upper hallway were covered fully. At the end, I inspected the work done and noticed one missing area which I pointed out and they quickly fixed it before they left.

Job was performed in an excellent manner.
