S&J Painting: Buyer beware! Our job consisted of: 1) Shoddy workmanship, 2) Unfinished portions of the signed contract, 3) Attempt to get more money after the job, which was never agreed to. Nightmare city!!!!

I love that all the holes in my walls and ceiling are now gone because we had our house repiped. Although we did not start on the scheduled day and the job was started on the following day, the communication was excellent. Everything was done professionally and I am very happy with the work. I have hired S&J to do another job for me.

Good. The bathroom is beautiful. They are easy to work with. Had a problem with the bathroom floor after they finished. They fixed it, but it took months for them to come out to do the repair.

They totally gutted both bathrooms and put all new bathrooms in. They put in new counter tops,ceramic tile among other things. They did a great job and I would definitely use them again. I would highly recommend them.

Victor was very responsive to the list of tasks that I had prepared. He completed all the tasks very quickly and with good quality work.

WOW! I loved the work they did. They were punctual and professional. As the project continued and and issues came up, they handled it beautifully. i have already scheduled this company to complete a second remodel of a bathroom in my home!

Very well. Tenants moved a bunch of stuff in early (was supposed to be only a little), but S & J managed to work around the mess.

I contacted this company because it was so highly rated by Angie's list. He told me originally that he had to charge for a whole day, even though I was only looking to have the drywall repaired and painted. This was because he was "pulling his worker off of another job". I then decided to also get the kitchen painted if time permitted. I sent him pictures of the jobs, and he seemed concerned about it being finished in a day, since we were covering a dark orange with a light color. He said that the second day would be cheaper since the worker was only painting, and that I would only be charged for a half day if that is all it took. But the whole first day had to be charged at a higher rate, since a part of the time, the worker was repairing drywall. I told the worker to do the drywall repair and painting first, and then finish the highest parts of the other room to be painted first, because I had a different painter who could finish up the low parts if it took more than a day. The worker did excellent work. He finished both jobs in less then 4 hours!!! Since I had been led to believe that it would take longer than a day, I thought that the price would be reduced. I called Jerry, and he didn't see it that way at all. I would have added extra jobs that I wanted done to use up the day, if I had known that there was a possibility that he would finish early. I didn't argue long, since I had just been stung in the same way by Advantage Electric. Jerry called back and said to reduce the price from $500 to $450, and that I didn't have to pay for the material (I had already bought the paint and provided the drywall). I wrote the check for $450, and bitterly decided that for the next contractor, I would have a list of jobs for them to do, to finish out the day. But cost per hour had doubled, and I was not happy. I also wondered if I had been taken advantage of, because I was a woman, and unfamiliar with hiring contractors (hence, relying on Angie's List). Also, after the paint dried, in some places, the orange wasn't totally covered, and will need a touch up. So make a long list of jobs, if you want your money's worth from them.

Everything went as planned. I want the new owner of my place to have a worry free move in and painting was important.

Great job....excellent crew...Elias and his partner were excellent. Would rehire and will refer to family and friends.

It went well. The contractor was able to fix all the areas I needed much quicker than I expected and the quality of the work was great. I'm happy to have used S&J and will be calling them back for additional work.

Did an outstanding job. Very easy to deal with, and were able to work us in earlier when they had a cancellation. Very professional workers that we felt safe to have them in the house. Will plan to have them again to do more at a later date.

Crew were careful, cheerful, and responsive.

It went pretty good. I would have liked a bit more fixing of the walls, although after removing the wallpaper my walls were not in good shape. The painter did the best he could have done.

Dustin was great. He listened to my needs, had great ideas to accomplish my goals, was very competent and quick. It was comfortable to have him in my home.

This was the most unfit group of painters I have ever employed. They painted over rotted wood and the man that came back to do the repairs was inept in professionalism. It was an awful experience! Never will I recommend this company to anyone.

Jerry came out and provided us with a free estimate. Jerry explained because I lived in a 3 story townhouse, the work would require a 2 man team for safety reasons. I totally respected that decision and I was okay with it. After the free estimate, we began corresponding with Stacey via email. She was very responsive and answered my questions. We set up a day to have the work performed. The work was to include some wood/carpentry repair as well as painting of all exterior and trim. Jerry's crew did an outstanding job. You would never have known there was ever any rotting wood. I really felt like they paid attention to detail. I would definitely use them again!

I am extremely pleased with our bathroom remodeling project. I had received multiple estimates and S & J were the only company that were able to provide quality work at a very reasonable price. I commend Jerry on his estimate/scope of the work needed and Elias (who performed the work) for his skilled technique and suggestions for maximizing function and aesthetics. I bought my own materials for the bathroom (tile, vanity, faucets, etc.) and in this way I was able to choose high end products for the best price; I paid S & J for the labor. Jerry recommended an interior designer who gave me guidance on the bathroom design at a very reasonable cost. I have already contacted them to perform another job, and will continue to use them for home projects in the future! Overall, we saved about $10,000 compared to other estimates, but it does entail that the homeowner be very involved in choosing/purchasing their own materials. I enjoyed picking out my own materials for the bathroom, but it can be time-consuming. For myself, it was all worth it!

Excellent! it turned out great! The handyman was professional and a hard worker. He did an excellent job. He was always mindful of my house at all times and took great care not to get the dust through out my house. He cleaned up afterwards and left no debris. Would definitely hire again.

overall went well - two painters worked from 8am - 4pm for four and half days. they were friendly and talented. showed up on time every day, explained their game plan for the day and were easy to work with. they did a pretty good job of cleaning up after themselves each day, though I did have to clean a little (specks) bit of paint off the floors each day, no big deal.

The workmanship was fabulous! All of the trim and borders were meticulously done. The reason we rated professionalism lower was that the colors for the downstairs/hallways and the three bedrooms were switched. Luckily we like both colors; the manager offered to repaint, which didn't work for us, so he instead discounted the job by $500.

The house sold within a week. They made some really good recommendations about the paint and it worked out really well. I've had some communications with the buyers and they really love the quality of the paint job.

When I verbally described the work to S & J Painting & Remodeling (S & J), the owner indicated the project would require more than one day--perhaps two. S & J stated I would be eligible for the 5% discount for first time customers. I signed the contract and the painter arrived around 0830 hrs. on 7/27/2017. All furniture in the bedroom, hallway and closets had been removed except for a floor lamp and a waste basket in the bedroom. Around 1100 hours, the painter indicated he needed to go to Home Depot for a short period. I objected and told him I expected him to have all materials he needed at the beginning of the project. Furthermore, I explained, the longer he took to complete the project, the longer my time would be tied up at home and the less money I would earn away from home. He disagreed because the contact pricing was based on "days". I re-iterated the time he spent not working extends the time of the job. For example, a 1 or 2-day project could turn into 3 or 4 days. Nonetheless, the painter returned to the project and did not stop until around Noon for a 30-minute lunch. While the painter was at lunch, the owner called to attest to the honesty of the painter. I reiterated, “TIME IS MONEY.” After lunch, the painter worked until approximately 1600 hours. On 7/28, the painter started working at approximately 0755 hours, took a 45-minute lunch break, and completed the job around 1500 hours. I paid S & J for 2 days of work. The contact indicated a “day” is 8 hours, but the actual time worked was less than 13 hours. I negotiated to remove the $25 "sundry" charge from my invoice because I had already applied Spackle to the small nail holes in the walls and no “sundry” items were provided by S & J. Finally, S & J promised to send a check for the 5% discount. I have no problems with the quality of the work, but I wish I had included the exact hours of work each day (e. g. 8AM -4:30 PM including 30 lunch break from Noon to 12:30 PM) into the contract. I reserve the right to revise this review if the discount check is not received.

Guys were polite, prompt and courteous. Work was done quickly and efficiently and cleanup was performed after each visit. Can't recommend enough.
