I called Stowe Contracting and spoke to owner Eugene Sibley on a Friday afternoon to get an estimate on fixing the tub faucet which had come lose from the wall. WE made an appointment for him to give us an estimate the following Monday. He came over took one look at the problem and to our great relief, told us he could fix it in about 15 minutes. He was back the next morning, and true to his word, had it fixed in no time, We were so impressed with him and the quality of his work that we asked him to give us an estimate on installing a small kitchenette/bar in the basement. Once again he responded immediately, and within 24 hours he presented us with a rough draft within our budget, and pictures of other kitchens he had worked on. When we are ready we will be giving Eugene a call to install the kitchenette/bar. I would highly recommend Stowe Contracting. Eugene was prompt ( he was actually early), courteous, and gave us options to work with.
Description of Work: The faucet in our tub had come loose. The pipes leading to the tub had never been anchored properly. Eventually the caulking that was holding it in place gave way We thought it was going to be a very expensive fix involving removal of the surrounding tiles. Eugene presented us with a different solution to the problem and was able to fix it without having to remove one tile.

I had worked with Eugene in the recent past on a leaking tub drain and had a positive experience. He took his time solving my problem and in the end, found that the solution was a small, minor fix rather than the big, expensive one. I respect that. After SO MANY horrible experiences with dishonest, unresponsive, overpriced and lazy guys, it's nice to find a nice guy. So when I needed someone to install the new foyer light and light cover for my coop buiding, I called Eugene and he was right there. He worked quickly, did a great job and cleaned up after. As far as I'm concerned, Eugene is my new go-to guy.

After receiving equipment and installation bids that failed to meet my requirements and resolve my water problems, I bought my own equipment. I prepped a chemical injector, iron filter, and water softener and Eugene connected them all for me. He was one of the only contractors willing to work with a do-it-yourselfer. Eugene was well-prepared, having worked with me ahead of time to make sure all the details were covered. He arrived early and finished efficiently and cleanly. I have two bathroom remodels coming up and he is the first I will consider to do the work.
Description of Work: Eugene worked with me to install new water conditioning equipment for my well system The price listed includes $100 in parts.

Gene was part of the work crew who remodeled our basement about a year and a half ago. I remembered how much he enjoyed working with tile, so when my husband and I decided to replace our kitchen floor, which contained many cracked ceramic tiles, I decided to call him and see if he was interested in the job. He was able to fit our small project into his larger schedule. The job grew to include adding a backspash in our bathroom (using extra tile from the original job), replacing the lights in our kitchen (from small, hot, hard-to-change spotlights to larger but cooler bulbs),. and the accompanying touch-ups: painting the kitchen wall in places, repainting/replacing floor molding, repaining the ceiling, leveling the store, and, unexpectedly, replacing faulting connectors in the dishwasher. The project wenth smoothly and when the unexpected arose, he called me to let me know what was happening. Overall, everything went smoothly, and the kitchen looks great.
Description of Work: The primary job was to replace our ceramic kitchen floor. Secondary projects included installing a ceramic backsplash in our bathroom, replacing kitchen lights, touching up kitchen paint, and general finish work.

My recent kitchen remodeling experience with Transformative Innovations was truly amazing. Mr. Sibley and his team of craftsmen and remodeling experts first guide you step by step through selection of materials: cabinets, floor tile, wall tile, countertops, lighting and paint. I was even presented with computer generated drawings showing what my kitchen would look like when the effort was complete. After the materials have been selected and procured, Mr. Sibley and his craftsmen go to work. They took my 27 year old mundane worn out kitchen and turned it into a masterpiece. During the remodel effort, Mr. Sibley was always ready with a smile and was quick to address any concern without complaint. I never heard things like, "you're wrong", or "I'm not going to do that", or "that's not in the contract". Mr. Sibley was concerned about getting it right. Further, work was done on time and as agreed. Mr. Sibley may or may not provide you with the lowest bid, but you have to decide if you want excellent work done by a friendly, responsive and on time team of experts or the low bid. It's up to you!
Description of Work: Kitchen remodeling including cabinets, floor, walls, and countertops. Service was performed over a three week period and was completed as agreed on 10 November 2011.

Eugene Sibley and his assistant (I'm forgetitng his name), arrived early, worked quickly, and explained everything to me as they worked. I thought the project might be a bit tricky because the new water line needed to come from inside our basement wall, out of the house and under the front porch, with the spigot attached to the face of the porch. They were able to install the spigot in a few hours, and he overestimated the cost for parts, which made my total price lower than expected. Mr. Sibley also cleaned up well after themselves. Overall, the installation was pain free, and easy to understand for a new homeowner. I will definitely use Transformative Innovations again in the future.

We accepted Gene's bid to do major renovations to two full bathrooms in our 1917 home. Due to our home's age, Gene conducted an initial site assessment to gather additional information based on what we requested. While I was able to layout and design each bathroom prior to contacting Gene, I still asked several questions and sought his consultation in certain areas, which helped us a great deal. Completely gutting and rebuilding any bathroom presents several challenges, let alone two that are 94 years old (e.g. concrete floors, ceilings and walls that are not level, dealing with plaster, removal of lead pipes, etc.), but Gene and his crew handled the job with skill, and he helped us figure out ways to keep costs down. On occasions where there was a particular challenge, Gene contacted me to troubleshoot potential solutions. We were very specific with what we wanted, and what impressed us was that Gene took the time to make sure everything was just right, and he was flexible with any desired changes. After each work day Gene made sure that the workspace and the surrounding areas of our home were completely clean and free of any debris. Due to a number of factors our projects took a bit longer to complete than originally estimated, but Gene got everything installed and set up with few problems, and immediately addressed any concerns. We've dealt with a number of contractors - some good, many not so good - and our overall experience with Gene has been among the best that we've ever had. It goes without saying that we are planning to contact Gene for our future renovation projects.
Description of Work: Remodeled two full bathrooms, including demolition, installation of fittings and fixtures, reconfiguration of plumbing, flooring (including radiant heating), drywall, carpentry, pocket door installation, electrical, painting and tile work.
We called Gene for his services to renovate a half bathroom into a full bathroom on the first floor for my ederly grandmother who is unable to go upstairs. He had a big job ahead of him. He had to relocate plumbing for the toilet and vanity to allowed space for a large shower, which involved busting up the concrete floor and reframing of the entire bathroom. This seemed like a huge endeavor that he did with skill and ease. He made sure that the space was roomy enough to accomodate a walker. He put in handicapped grab bars in all the proper places for her to manage in the bathroom by herself. He installed a pocket door to help utilize all of the space in the bathroom. He also put in a new vent fan, which was another challenge, because the bathroom is located in the center of the home. He had to run duct work to allow for the fan to be vented outside. Gene kept the house so clean for the entire project, which we really appreciated. He even vaccumed the entire living room and stairs! He came up with some great suggestions on placement of the grab bars and a properly sized toilet for my grandmother who is under 5 feet tall. He also, suggested an extension bar for the shower head because my grandmother cannot lift her arms overhead. These were great suggestions that we would never have thought of. He was wonderful with my grandmother and listened to her requests with sensitivity. We will definitely use him again for future renovations.
Description of Work: Renovated a half bathroom into a full spacious full bathroom to accomodate an elderly woman who uses a walker.

Very good. We are very happy with our new bathroom. The project was estimated at two weeks. From start to finish it took two weeks, and the cost was exactly what the contract said for labor, plus materials. (I have only included labor costs in the cost quote). Gene was very responsive right from the start, and came to our house at our convenience to give us an estimate. Our timeline got pushed back a bit because of our schedule, and then a little more because of delays on another of Gene's jobs, but once things started they moved quickly without a hitch. One thing we loved about Gene was how clean he kept things. Every day things were tidied up, and we had no dust or mess in the house, or even in the workspace. This was great for us becase we are expecting our first baby in a month, so we didn't want construction dust everywhere. Gene was also helpful with some suggestions for the bathroom, such as putting in a little shelf/hutch within the shower with accent tile behind it, which was a nice extra touch, and useful. Overall the work is very good, and the bathroom is now infinitely better than it used to be. We are very happy with our new bathroom, and we feel that the price was appropriate and definitely worth it. I'm not sure how to upload pictures to angieslist, but you can check sweetpeadc on blogspot for a post on our new bathroom, with pictures.
Description of Work: Gene remodeled our main upstairs bathroom. He stripped the walls down to the studs and installed new drywall, new tile in the shower and throughout the whole bathroom, leveled the floor, installed new tile on the floor, new shower fixtures, toilet, vanity and and vanity plumbing. We also had very bad drainage in the old bathroom, and Gene replaced the waste and overflow in the bathtub, and some other plumbing below and around the bathtub. He restored a skylight that had been closed off, and painted the bathroom. He also removed an old built-in humidifier from our attic.

Overall, we were very pleased. Gene did all of the work in an efficient manner and brought in experts as needed. For instance, he brought in an electrician to handle one part of the project and he also had a co-worker to help handle the complicated tiling. Gene is very laid back and friendly. He comes up with good solutions if problems arise and deals with problems properly. For instance, the shower valve we bought was incorrect. Gene handled getting a replacement valve and then following up with Kohler to get it installed properly. Gene also works long hours to get the job done quickly. He came early morning and worked until the evening as needed. At the end of each day he either called us (if he left before I got home) or talked to use when we got home to explain what he did that day and what the next steps were. We also note that Gene was VERY clean. He made no mess and cleaned up everything at the end of each day. The whole process was very painless and we plan to use Gene for our next bathroom.
Description of Work: We have a house built in 1932. Our guest bathroom was in its original condition, with old tile, fixtures, an old toilet and radiators. We reached out to a friend to help us pick new decor and we reached out to Gene to do the actual work. Gene gutted the existing bathroom to the studs. This included removing all of the walls to the studs, removing the existing tile floor, removing the radiator and other fixtures and removing the toilet. We left the 1930's tub in place since it was in good condition. Gene handled the disposal of all construction materials. Gene then rebuilt our bathroom. He installed insulation, since our 1930s house had none. He repairs the floors which were decaying. He installed an electric heated floor so we would have no more cold feet. He also installed lighting fixtures, a new toilet and sink, brand new shower fixtures, an electric heater/exhaust vent and the various bathroom items such as a towel rack. The installation was very complicated. We chose very thick Italian slate for our floor and Gene did a masterful job installing it. We also chose small 1" marble for the walls of our entire bathroom. This required Gene to match the marble and grout hundreds of small spaces. Gene did an exceptional job installing the walls and slate floors. Comparing it to some recent tile work at a friend’s house, and also comparing it to tile work done by another "tile expert" in our house previously, Gene's work was far superior. The grouting, alignment and spacing was perfect throughout. Gene also did the plumbing and electrical work. This included installed a hand shower, a shower head, a new shower temperature regulator. He also replaced piping as needed for the toilet and sink. Gene also installed the heated floor, an exhaust vent and a number of new lights. Gene is also very good at coming up with solutions. Our floor was decomposing, which we were unaware of when Gene started. Gene handled the issue well and replaced much of the floor to make it like new. Our bathroom also had an odd lip near the wall of the tub. Gene custom built a marble ledge for us to store shampoo. It looked beautiful. Overall, Gene did top quality work and we would highly recommend him.

This job went perfectly and I was so glad I hired him. Eugene is hardworking, careful, honest and a skilled craftsman. He has a great attitude and is straightforward in dealing with customers. I have employed all sorts of craftsman for over 30 years and I believe he is among the best. And he cleans ups after he works at your house, which is so rare this days. He is good at what he does as well as with people, dogs and kids. I never worry about leaving him alone when he is working in the house because he is exceedingly honest.
Description of Work: Eugene did a super job of laying tile in my hallway and walk-in closet in a condo I rent. The joints between the tile are perfect as well as the cuts for the corners and door areas. The grouting between the tiles was even and clean. Eugene is compulsive about cleaning up after each work session. My place was cleaner after he left than before he came. At the same time, he installed a new tile floor in a small bathroom. He laid the tiles on the diagonal, which made the room look larger. He also installed a new pedestal sink and toilet after he tiled the floor. They worked perfectly the first time. He has completed other small jobs for me such as installing lighting and shelving. I never worry about the outcome when Eugene works on it.

The work was of high quality and good design, and Gene spent a lot of time finding just the right countertop granite (looking at different supplies and bringing me samples), coordinating the look of the slate tile, accented by porcelain tile, that I chose for the shower and bath area, and helping me order the right plumbing fixtures. He has a good eye for color and design (a weakness for me), and I went with several of his ideas. When we found we had slate tile left over, Gene offered to redo the floor in my second bath at a very reasonable price for labor. He also located a granite remnant and installed that for the countertop in the second bath, along with a new sink, so that I ended up with a new-looking second bath for a nominal amount. He fixed problems that I brought to his attention, returned calls in a timely manner, and cleaned up each day.
Description of Work: Gene Sibley, owner of T.I., was the lead remodeler on my bathroom renovation in spring 2011. My master bath was almost completely redone -- new tile on floor and shower stall, as well as around bathtub, new countertops, double vanity, sinks, light and plumbing fixtures, and painting. I kept my toilet and bathtub, which was my preference. Gene removed and reinstalled these items as needed.
