Called 5 times for emergency service for strong oil odor in my parents home. Took over 6 hours to respond to potentially dangerous leak in home. Asked servie provider to call me when they arrived at my parents home to discuss with me, they never did. I left my cell and home number and was assured by the dispatcher they would contact me as well as the service provider.....they never did. Service provider eventually came and indicated there was an oil leak in the system....never contacted me and left my senior citizen parent there at home with the potenitially hazardous condition without making me aware of it. My sibling had to go and get my parent so they would not spend the night at home avoiding asphyxiation.

Communication of overdue notice to shutdown after reaching a pre-set amount was never communicated! Our heating oil ran out on 3/10/2018 (outside temp 20degC). Called the service to make a delivery. First told that the account was frozen. hence no fill up was done. I had paid with a credit card (10 minutes prior to calling) and could email the verification. Was told to fill the gas tank or wait till next business day. Other issues: The technicians that do come to do the work are excellent, but the company does cancel an appointment without warning; makes it incumbent on you to call back to set another appointment. No initiative is taken but charges yearly service contract fees promptly. The service call reps and the account handlers offer no actual help but repeat policies.

They deliver oil whenever I need oil, I also have service contract, they came out twice a year, to service the oil furnaces. They also come out to service the heat pumps, one in the fall and one in the spring, I have no idea what days that occurs.

I still get oil and everything from Griffith. They still do the maintenance stuff. My A/C is part of my furnace and they still maintain all that for me. I call them and tell them I have got a problem and they are right here. As far as their people, I mean they have impeccable service. I have never had a problem with them. I can call them right now and I would have oil before 6 o-clock. I mean, they would send a truck right over here.

After waiting a week or two for an answer and attempting to escalate the issue, got a call back from someone who checked with management and was told that they would charge me $2200 to replace the unit and then later credit "whatever" they got back from Carrier (really?) Said the total cost to me after credit should be about $1500. Fed up, I called an A rated authorized dealer who came out and looked at the system, they picked up the coil from Carrier under the warranty and installed it within a week for under $550. I guess no big deal if you know what you're doing. They also identified why the emergency heat was coming on and took care of that (not refrigerant). This company used to be fine to deal with and I had blindly stayed with them for over 20 years, but I now have a new provider who appears to be a lot more capable for a lot less money.
Description of Work: Air Conditioner wasn't working. They diagnosed a leak in the heat pump they installed 6 years ago and added refrigerant. Found "minuscule leak in evap coil". Since this cost over $800 ($409 labor), I then wanted to know how much it would cost to replace the coil under the warranty to fix the problem. I knew labor wasn't included and wanted to know the cost. As a separate issue a couple weeks later the emergency heat was coming on when it was warm out, when they finally got back to me I brought this up they said it probably had lost the coolant again.

Every aspect of working with Griffith went smoothly. They have provided my heating oil service for 5 years now with no issues whatsoever, so they were one of three companies I got quotes from when my A/C went out. I decided to go with a hybrid heat pump system that would use heating oil as emergency heat, and Griffith offered a good estimate (at least $3K lower than my highest estimate for a very high quality Trane system). Griffith also offers several flexible financing options. The installers were prompt and knowledgable, everything went smoothly, they were finished when they said they would be, there were no surprises, and they left everything clean. Best yet, my electrical bill has been lower all summer!

The first time they came and gave me a discounted cleaning and inspection which was fine but did not even look or treat the oil tank. within days of the inspection and cleaning the furnace started shaking and making loud noises until it finally just died one cold morning. I called Griffith Energy and they sent a tech out who fixed the problem (loose wires) caused by the first tech.and he said no charge and even left me an invoice showing I owed zero $. However, within a couple weeks I received a bill for $100. I called the office and spoke to a nice lady who said I was correct that I didn't owe them anything and would be taken care of. it wasn't. Month after month I would get a bill and each time I would call and each time they said they would take care of it. I finally just started ignoring the bills, so they added late fees and then a threat to report me to the credit agency. I called again, this time threanting all kinds of unholy terror to rain down on them if they didn't get this fixed. I guess that worked becuase I finally stopped receiving bills from them but who knows for sure? This fall I called them to get a price on the per/gallon of oil and two different people could not answer my question until they looked up my account. W**? After some insistence from me they finally put me in touch with Mike Murphy who quoted me .20 cents/gallon higher than the last company quoted me so I guess I see why they are so secretive. Good bye Griffith Energy.

We paid a flat fee for that month. We were very unhappy with them. We just had a couple of gallons of oil left in the tank, and it took them 4 days to deliver more oil. We were supposed to be on automatic delivery, we didn't have to call them. They eventually came and filled the oil after we had called several times. We had run out of oil another time. I would tell them to do a better job at monitoring for their automatic customers.

We have been without heat or hot water for days, yet we are a long-time contract customer with Griffith Energy. They "FORGOT" to provide us heating fuel for our home for over a month. They originally sent a truck on or about FEB 24 to provide the heating fuel, but could not access the house because of the snow. THEY NEVER RESCHEDULED A FUEL DELIVERY (which is their job!), yet the snow melted within 2 days of their first delivery attempt. They never explained the lack of delivery or reached out to us to make things right. Only when we called them every hour on the hour today to get someone to deliver heating fuel to our home was any action taken. At this writing, fuel was just delivered, but we STILL have no heat or hot water because a technician has yet to arrive to get the systems restarted--and it is late in the day. Griffith Energy is disorganized, non-communicative with their customers (and with each other), unreliable, and does not appear to care about even their contract customers who are supposed to receive preferred service. If this is "preferred service," why bother?!?!
Description of Work: We are a long-time Virginia contract customer with Griffith Energy, yet they FORGOT (!) to provide us heating fuel for our home for well over a month. They were too disorganized to get this faithful customer the service needed, leaving us with no heat or hot water for days.

We have had a heat pump contract for over 20 years for our home, and when we owned them, for our stores. Most of the experience over that time was positive when they were Chesapeake Heating and Cooling, but once Griffith took over, the service has not been so good. A couple of years ago, the tech came over to do our annual inspection shorted something out and we were without heal for several days while they waited for the parts to repair it. Last Tuesday a tech came to our house to do our winter check up under our maintenance contract. He said everything was fine, but we noticed the outside heat pump unit was not working. We called Friday Morning and they said someone would be out that day to fix it. When no one showed up by 5:00 we called again and the emergency operator answered and said she would have the duty technician call. He called about 2 hours later and said he was really busy but would try to get there by 10:00 PM. If not, he would be there early the next morning. No one had shown up by 12:00 Saturday. A customer service rep called shortly after noon and asked if anyone had come. We answered no and she said someone would be right. No-one showed up. No one showed up again on Sunday. On Monday Morning I went to their office and they had lots of excuses, but the bottom line is that I had payed them over $8,000.00 over the last 20 some years and all they have had to do was come out and inspect the system. Now that i had a problem, they effectively ignored me. Beware! Particularly if there is a technician called "Big Ed" or "Eddie" involved. Every time he has been involved, we have had problems.

We were so impressed by the professionals Griffith sent to our ancient row house, we bought a platinum service plan right away. The tradesmen they send really know and understand boilers, and they were happy to explain the workings of our heating system. They are punctual, polite, and a pleasure to deal with.

Griffith energy claimed they provided my landlord (a women in her 80's with a demented husband) with a 160 gallons of oil. Then, a day or two after oil use (in early fall), they told me--the tenant--that the tank was empty and billed me over a $900 dollars to fill the whole tank. They said the meter was broken--but they never charged or indicated they repaired it. Despite my calling them dozens of times and explaining how their employee scammed me, they have just kept billing me (after and quot;adjustingand quot; the bill a few hundred dollars and then began the process of sending me to collections. I finally spoke with a Jerry Wagonner who was extremely condescending and offensive. I've not written any review in over 10 years but this situation is ridiculous and people should know that something rotten is going on with their company.

During coldest days of winter, Griffith offered fastest delivery at best price in local market. Mike from the office was friendly and informative and the service backed him up. we also had a service technician come provide a tune up. He was prompt and worked efficiently. We have since 100% of business to Griffith.
Description of Work: Provided tune up and also help deliver oil faster and at a lower price than competition during coldest days of winter. Office staff was courteous and professional and service backed up their word.

Jeanie (Genie?) who we worked with on the phone the past two days was superb. She set it all up quickly and got us a good rate. She even dropped my first time fill rate to $3.399/gal as part of a military discount. Thanks! B/c our tank is outside, we didn't even realize Griffith came buy and dropped off another 210+ gallons of fuel. We'll definitely be sticking with Griffith for oil heat.
Description of Work: We just moved into a new rental and are using oil heat for the first time. We didn't think it would run that quickly, but our 275 gallon take which we received about 5/8 full was empty in a bout a month. I researched pricing and the lowest I could find was $3.87 for 150+ gallons from Alliance. I called Griffith next and they offered me a price of $3.449/gal for first fill and $3.549/gal for the next year, fixed. They came out and dropped off 10 gallons yesterday to make sure we didn't go without heat overnight and filled up our tank today.

I requested an oil delivery for two tanks on Wednesday December 11th. They said they would be there Thursday or Friday. On Friday morning I called the and asked when the delivery would be coming. she said she didn't know what time but t would be that day. I asked her to call me when he was there because my office is three doors down and I cannot see if the driver was there. she said she would let him know. at 4:00pm on Friday I called again and spoke with a different woman who said the driver was there and left because nobody was there. I explained to her that I requested a phone call. she said there were no notes of that in her system. she told me the driver could come back on Saturday morning. they NEVER called or showed up. I attempted to call them, the answering service paged the person on-call who also NEVER called me! TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!

Inquired about getting the oil tank at our new home filled. They definitely try to push the service plan with auto fill, but after reading some of the reviews where they continue to fill even in warm months, I was hesitant to agree to that contract just yet. They did agree to replace the gauge on our tank since it is broken and you can't see at all how much oil is left, but when they did the fill they did not replace the part as they indicated they would. The old owners, who also used Griffith, told us that they had been trying to get the gauge replaced for over a year, and did have the service plan, but Griffith just never did it as they promised. Not a huge deal, I can order a replacement part online and figure out how to install it myself, but it does make me think I made the right choice in not taking them up on the service plan.
Description of Work: Griffith came out and filled our home heating oil tank. UPDATE: After declining their auto-fill plan, they still came out and filled the tank without my permission. I had specifically told them that I did not want to be enrolled in this service, and had planned on going with a different oil company the next time I needed a fill since they still did not replace the gauge on the tank as promised. I told them I felt this was a free gift of oil from them since I did not order it and I would not pay the bill, they said they would come and pump the oil back out of the tank. We compromised on a 40% discount on the cost of the tank fill, which was below what they pay for the oil, and I consider the matter resolved. I will not use them in the future however.

I called Griffith Energy Services to get an estimate on replacing my heat pump. They set up an appointment immediately. The Tech arrived on time and was very professional. He looked at my current system. I gave him all the background information and he asked some questions about what I wanted out of a new system. Based on that information, he made some recommendations and told me he would provide a written estimate for those recommendations. I had a written estimate within 4 hours of his visit. He provided detailed information on what the price included. There were also links to review the equipment he recommended online. In the process of reviewing the estimate, I had a few questions. I responded to his email and received a call back within an hour of sending my questions via email. He answered all my questions and then provided a revised estimate to me within 2 hours of the call. Very professional and I will definintely consider using this company. I have not made a final decision yet, but Griffith Energy Services is in the top 3 for my HVAC choices. I would recommend them.

I began by collecting prices from several companies in the area (such as: Laurel Oil, Sears, Carroll Oil, and Sanford Kramer) and Griffith was the lowest and most responsive during this period. In fact the guy from Sanford Kramer promised me a return call and return visit w/ an electrician but the guy never showed up or even bothered to call me back. The installation work by Griffith was clean, professional and completed in less than a day. They removed my old furnace, oil tank, and A/C unit and installed all new equipment within less than a day. I am very happy with Griffith's work. My only complain is their account billing people made the payment process rather confusing by mixing the new installation cost, with our monthly budget oil cost. This took several phone calls to wort out, but in the end it was all straightened out.

They do perform regular annual furnace service at no cost. It's usually well done but you have to call at least a month in advance as they are always booked for about a month. I did run out of oil two times and they delivered immediately and sent somebody to restart the furnace. So, they do that part of their contract really well. Overall, it's a bitter-sweet experience. They usually deliver on time, but their price is over the top. It's just gotten too expensive. I'm thinking of dropping the annual plan and switching to call-for-delivery service.
Description of Work: I've had a plan with Griffith Oil Company for four years. They deliver to my home automatically, but two times I ran out of oil. They said I should have told them I use the oil furnace for hot water as well. That made me feel as if it was my fault; it's something they should've asked about and known as they've been servicing the furnace for years. They also like to deliver oil at the end of spring, just to make you keep paying through the summer. The price of oil is also higher in late spring as compared to early fall. Their price is much higher than what you would pay at call-for-delivery companies. Last delivery, they charged me $4.20/gal whereas other companies on that same day were charging about $3.70/gal. On a 200 gallon tank, that's a $100 difference! And we're supposed to derive benefits from having a plan. On top of that, they charge tank service and other charges which are rolled into the annual plan.

I called to get an estimate for services, and was told I would receive a call to explain what they were. I never received a call, but did get an email price/gallon rate offer with a request to confirm. I never responded because I was waiting on the estimate phone call that never came. I then received an unexpected bill for a $200.00 service plan. I called to question the bill over the weekend but was told to call back on Monday. Before I had a chance to call, a service tech called me to tell me that the oil fill up would be coming the next day. I explained to the tech that I had not agreed to any fill up but that I only wanted information. The tech then told me what a great price it was. I reiterated that I did not want the service. I later got another call from a rep who told me she thought I agreed to the plan, although I never responded to the email offer or agreed to anything.
Description of Work: Called to get a quote but was enrolled in a $200.00 service plan with a contract for oil fill-ups for one year without my authorization.
