+ -1 moreI had a very positive experience with Mr. Johnson. He's a pleasure to deal with, explained the options to me clearly, and did a fantastic job. The roof looks great and the 40 year shingles will last longer than I will! He cleaned up well, too. There was very little debris around the house after he was done. This was my third positive experience with Mr. Johnson. About 10 ago I thought I had a horrible leak and called Mr. Johnson the first time after a neighbor recommended him. He replaced a neoprene collar around a bathroom exhaust pipe and only charged me $125. The house has been dry since then. Then five years ago he came to give me an estimate when I was worried that the roof was getting old. He told me the roof had five years left in it and only requested an optional $25 for gas and his time - which I happily paid. So after those first two times when he could have sold me a lot more and charged me a a lot more, I knew I could trust him. Thus I recommend you use Mr. Johnson with confidence. He's a great roofer and honest, too. He won't try to sell you anything you don't truly need.

+ -1 moreHe actually came within an hour of me calling him, which given the circumstances, was practically astounding, especially since he interrupted another job to do so. I didn't either bother with an estimate, since it was an emergency situation. He fixed all the problems within an hour or 2 (didn't keep track of the time). Then, even more astoundingly, in my view he attempted to UNDERCHARGE me for these emergency repairs. I had to actually force him to accept what I felt to be a more reasonable amount, given the overall circumstances. This is not the kind of experience you expect in 2016. There are other contractors in all fields who are expert in their craft, but I haven't run across any others this honorable and decent. At least not in about 40 years.
Description of Work: Thomas C Johnson Roofing provided emergency roof repairs immediately prior to last January's blizzard. Another contractor who had fixed some siding pointed out the problem, but I hadn't done anything until I heard about the upcoming blizzard. Johnson Roofing fixed both some chimney issues as well as problems with all the vent/exhaust stacks that would probably lead to leakage into the attic.

+ -1 moreHe was very responsive, did a very thorough job on looking at our roof and giving us a bid that was competitive with everybody else. There's one minor problem which he came back and fix. It's really probably wasn't his, it was part of something else, it wasn't part of the contract. I would give him high marks on everything. He was one of the lowest bidders, within a few dollars of everybody else and some folks were twice as much. It looks great and everything is to our satisfaction. They did it in a day, you can't beat that. I can't think of nothing that wasn't top-notch. referred to other people.

Tom replied right away and arranged an appointment for the next day. He worked in very cold weather, wind, and snow to find a solution before more snow rolled in -- all with a smile. Will use his company for future roofing services, and I'd recommend without hesitation.

+ -1 moreThis contractor was by far one of the very BEST contractors we have ever hired. His price was very competitive, but the thing that clinched the deal was Tom's attitude and helping us with associated problems at no cost. He started on time, installed the roof in accordance with the contract, cleaned up the debris very well and was very careful of not hurting all the plants around the house. He did not require a deposit to start and did not want to get paid until he completed painting the utility collars that he suggested be done. The final cost was as per contract plus $75 for extra wood to replace bad wood found during the roofing application. Tom also was on the job himself to assure the roofing was being done correctly however all his workers worked very diligently at their tasks. I would enthusiastically endorse Tom's roofing firm to everyone needing any type of roofing repair. ..

+ -1 moreSo, I am picky. I have to get the: best price, and the best product and service. I buy and sell foreclosures, and contract services from a lot of companies. I have learned: there is little relationship between price and quality of workmanship. This past summer I bought a new foreclosure, that had some roof problems. Looked up roofing on Angies list. Saw all the ready-to-buy 'deals' for replacing vent boots and shingles. These 'deals' stink (e.g are too expensive). This guy did very good work, lots of free stuff, and priced the job at $250. So, I hired him, and then inspected the work, before I paid, because and quot;you don't expect what you don't inspectand quot;. Bottom line, very good work, very good price, very honest and on-time. What's not to like???
Description of Work: Replaced 7 vent boots; replaced 20 shingles; then for FREE AND UNASKED blew out all gutters, took off multiple bees nests; blew off driveway and walk ways.

Description of Work: I had interviewed several roofers, and Tom Johnson was by far the most honest, knowledgeable, and gave the best and fairest price quote. He was also the only roofer who not only got on our roof to inspect it, but also took pictures to show us what he found. We also had good peace of mind that he accompanied his crew (who were excellent and cleaned everything up, including making sure there was no debris in the gutters). We needed a roof replacement, and also soffit vents, box vents, and venting our bathroom exhaust fans. We have had several compliments about our new roof, and we know of at least two neighbors who have consulted Mr. Johnson already. We highly recommend his company.

+ -1 moreI should have mentioned that I inadvertently overpaid Mr. Johnson (failing to remember the 150$ earnest money deposit that I had put down before the job) and he sent back the deposit check. You can't go wrong with Mr. Johnson.
Description of Work: Thomas replaced our roof this May. We found him on Angie's list about three years ago after a catastrophic failure of a portion of our roof. He fixed the leak and then looked after our roof for us afterwards. Then this Spring we had some shingles come loose and Thomas gave us the news: after 24 years time to replace the roof. He provided an estimate for roof replacement, which seemed reasonable. Nice product selection. We put in a near-white roof to reduce some of the solar gain on those hot days and he accommodated that request for us. One of our roof vents failed during the replacement (it was probably broken for some time) and Thomas promptly went into our attic and patched things together until we could get a plumber up into the attic to do a permanent fix. (Thomas also recommended the plumber who did a fine, neat job and took pictures of the attic repair because he knew I wasn't going up there.) The job was done in a day, although not within 8 hours. His crew worked hard, neatly and efficiently. Clean up was remarkable given the amount of material they took off of the roof. We had an agreement regarding the price for replacing any damaged plywood panels. Thomas and his crew had to replace three plywood sheets and they showed me the damaged ones that came off of the roof. Nice touch. I would use Thomas again, but I doubt that I'll be needing him for at least 25 years. So, it's up to you all to keep him busy.

He was on the job personally and had what seemed to be a quality crew. Work was completed in a timely manner and cleanup was thorough. Mr. Johnson was great to deal with. I have recommended him to several neighbors.

Description of Work: Mr. Johnson came to the house and looked at the roof and determined what he thought had caused the leak in our family room. He said he would send me an estimate by early the following week. When the weekend and several more days had passed and I had not received anything from him in the mail, I called and left a message saying that I was disappointed in the response time. He called back blaming the post office for my not receiving the estimate. Two more days have passed and still nothing and that is unacceptable.
