They are very responsive, professional and make sure the customer is satisfied. They installed a patio at our old house and once we moved to a new house, we knew we wanted to work with them again. If you're in the market for a patio, make sure to contact Don at Diversified Contractors (aka DC Patio).

Used their website to request an estimate on doing a hardscape patio. No response for about a week, so I called on a Friday, and left a message. It's now Wednesday, two weeks after my website attempt, and 5 days after leaving a phone message. No response. Could be a website issue, so I will let that one slide. However, when you're running a business, I expect a return phone call within 48 hours (24 is probably the better rule). As a lawyer, I wouldn't have many clients if I didn't return phone calls within 48 hours. I guess they just have too much business to bother about new customers.

Diversified Contractors replaced our back yard retaining wall. They demolished the old wall and carried away all the old materials, then built a new wall while being careful not to damage two Japanese Maples we have growing just above the wall. We are pleased with the result and would recommend them to others.

We had issues with rats burrowing into our backyard under our fence. Diversified installed a subgrade concrete wall 1 foot deep around the perimeter of our backyard and fully paved our driveway so the critters had no way to get it in. They also installed a new concrete pad for our condenser unit, and repaired our fence, which had gaps that allowed critters to crawl through. They came in at about the same price as another firm, but were able to start work immediately. The end result looks great and has had the desired result (no rats in the backyard!). They were easy and responsive to work with, especially on what was kind of an odd job.

Enormous amount of work involved...Hard labor as well as precision type work. Everything, from start to finish, was done perfectly, with virtually no need for supervision. Wonderful and friendly personnel. Showed up exactly on time, worked without letup. Frankly, I don't see how they made a profit on this project. The reason I used this group is because they had done a job for me previously, and my experience then was the same as this one...with not a single problem even years after the work was done. Just told Douglas what I wanted and they took it from there. This is a fantastic company!

We wanted a permeable patio space in a muddy low spot outside our kitchen door where we'd removed a mouldering shed. Mike's took my handful of unstructured ideas and, with the professional attention of his experienced crew, turned them into a wonderful space. Mike was friendly with our two big dogs; we kept them in the house during the work. For less than a week, we kept our cars parked at the curb so Mike's crew could delivery stone dust and stones, and pull up closer to the work site. I saw Mike multiple times, was able to speak/text on the phone; I think he was actually on site every day of work. Within days of contacting him on AList, Mike came out to view our site and discuss options. In addition to his impressive and broad knowledge of materials, plants, rain gardens, how to handle water problems, available rebates for rainscapes in Montgomery Co, MD, vs Fairfax Co, VA, Mike showed a vital artistic flair that "clicked" with us. Importantly, as we discussed the size, options, and, delightfully, design, it was pouring rain. Seeing how the water flowed, and responding to my frustration with it, Mike offered directing the water to a place lower in the yard by tying in a downspout and a grill to catch run off from the surface of an existing patio -- yes, a perfect solution to a long-standing problem! We wanted "something like" a big boulder for a step out the kitchen door. Rather than removing our fence to get such a thing into place, Mike suggested multiple fitted, smaller boulders -- another perfect solution. I wanted something that connected with an adjacent area under a small walnut and maple tree that was covered with big river stones -- Mike's solution was a lovely, curving edge of dry stacked stone. For over a year, we have wanted to replace a previously-laid plumbing pipe used for electrical wires -- Mike would install a length of proper and safe electrical conduit through which an electrician will rethread the wiring. After our initial talk, Mike sent a reasonable estimate. We changed our minds along the way about what to use for the steps; Mike promptly re-estimated. Within a week, Mike's crew started digging out the asphalt and pouring in wetted rock dust. The trenches to lay drainage appeared, then the flagstone was delivered and his crew started arranged and seating it in the rock dust. We watched over the next couple of days as pipes were laid, and the stone pattern emerged. They were careful that the gate opened smoothly. I commented that I didn't want a straight edged border and Mike agreed that it would be gently curving. The next afternoon, we came home to two fantastic steps of multiple, smaller boulders, a natural-looking spread of large flagstone sloping slightly away from the house, and the start of dry stacked smaller stones as lovely curving borders. A thick layer of mulch in the side beds, and then, it was done! Mike's friendly crew cleaned up after themselves, packed up and were out in less than two weeks. Eventually, I'll post before and after pictures. It went from a sunken, muddy corner in our yard to an extremely pleasant breakfast/reading/chatting area right outside our kitchen. Not simply a lovely job, but artistic, too. You will very much enjoy working with Mike!

Diversified Contractors LLC (DC Patio) completed our backyard pool area and patio expansion earlier this summer. It is rare for us to provide feedback, but in this case felt it necessary to inform other folks of our WONDERFUL experience with Diversified Contractors. We interviewed ~7 Angies list recommended companies and selected Diversified Contractors to execute the project. Price-wise they were middle of the pack, however what stood out was the willingness of Mike Erickson to LISTEN to our requirements and budget range. We dealt with Mike from start to finish and could not be more happy with the results. Mike and his crew members at Diversified Contractors were punctual, friendly, and worked extremely hard to ensure the end result was to our liking. The project involved over 2 new hard scape (paver) areas around our pool, paver sitting walls and piers, retaining walls, built-in firepit, lighting, landscaping, playground area, and many other associated items. There were other contractors firms involved for audio installations, electrical, etc and they also worked/coordinated extremely well with the other companies. Mike was on-site each day to oversee the progress and we always new what the expectations were for the day and week. I spoke with Mike almost every day during the project. Mike always took my calls and took the time to answer and and all concerns we had. There were some big design changes during the build, and Mike was extremely patient and able to provide valuable feedback and recommendation. His focus was always to ensure we got what WE wanted and he always set expectations on changes and impact on time and budget. We highly recommend Diversified Contractors and Mike Erickson. Our backyard pool and patio areas have received nothing but compliments from all who have seen it. More importantly, our investment will be enjoyed by our family and friends for many years to come. Excellent results. Great service with excellent result. Very prompt for estimate and on day of work. Setup and cleanup was excellent. Owner came by one week later to insure that work was done properly.

Amazing work done, particularly on the hardscaping in the back. All in a manner of days (2-3). Even two years later, their handiwork is still evident. You *might* be able to get this type of work done cheaper elsewhere, but these guys do it right from the get go. Will use again.

This company was a pleasure to work with. Their bid was lower than others, and was a firm bid for doing whatever work was needed with no "we'll charge more if..." clauses. Communication was excellent, work was done promptly and professionally. Care was taken to protect nearby landscaping. The finished walkway is beautiful. I would definitely recommend this company and would use them again.

Attempted to get a quote, the POC for the company flaked on his follow through and didn't contact us back as promised. Spoke with a rep for the company and he was very knowledgeable of patios and we were looking forward to his services. He advised that he would be able to set up a time to look and quote our patio and that he would contact us NLT Saturday May 30th for a visit. Saturday came and went with no contact, Sunday we received a call saying that he was in the area and was able to fit us in and seemed annoyed when we informed him that we never heard back and made other plans. If a company can't even follow through on their ability to provide a quote, no way I would ever allow them to work on my house.

I had multiple other quotes from other companies, this company was by far the most reasonable. They were extremely professional and easy to work with, I hired them off of a concierge recommendation and was very pleased with their services. The workers were never standing around on the site, they never failed to explain things out to me before beginning the work and I was deeply impressed with their great service. The co owner and the crew seemed very young but they were shockingly professional. They kept me up to date via email on when they were showing up every day, and they completed the project in less than 3 days when I was worried it may take weeks to sort out.

Provider came by to survey the job and said would have an estimate in a week after he talked to the boss. We still haven't heard from the company. He came on April 10th. Today is May 19th. We've heard nothing.

I have a retaining wall at the edge of my yard and stones were shifting, crumbling and breaking. Don with Diversified Contractors came out to give me an estimate. He explained that the wall was made out of historic stone that was once very common in DC. We discussed my options for different materials. Ultimately, I decided to have the wall rebuilt using the existing stones, as well as some new stones to replace the ones they couldn't salvage. A few weeks before they were scheduled to start work, they stopped by again to review the project and explain the process. Their team came out as scheduled and did the work over three days. They did an amazing job! The wall looks fantastic and now has a gravel barrier and water runoff to keep it around for years. I couldn't be more pleased with the work.

Very nicely and professionally done. Easy to work with. Would certainly have them again if I needed their services. They kept to their schedule, cleaned up well when they were done, and left us with a much nicer and more usable backyard area. Have had no problems in the 2 years since this work was done.

Two days after meeting with Tim, he followed up with an email outlining everything we had discussed in person. He was thorough. He then said Mike would be in touch to present a proposal for the scope of work described. Four days after receiving that email, I responded to Tim and thanked him, and said I hadnt heard from Mike yet but that I looked forward to it. Tim wrote back the next day, apologized because it was busy season and said we would have a proposal by the end of the following day (now 8 days after he had been to our property). Two days later, nothing. I wrote to Tim again: "Any news?" No response. I have heard nothing. 16 days after a visit to our property, we have no proposal and no estimate, and there is no more communication from anyone from this company... I guess they do not need/want our business and I have to wonder why. UPDATE (4/28/15): At the same time that I posted this, I wrote to Tim directly and asked him to pass along my displeasure with their company. I received a phone call, and an email, from him. Both were very professional. He apologized for the delay and expressed regret that there had not been any communication, but assured me they were taking extra steps to make sure the proposed a project that was feasible given the complexity of the work. They sent a proposal with a couple days and seem to genuinely want to do the right thing with this prospective project. We'll see how it goes from here. In the spirit of full disclosure, Tim asked me to provide an update to this post, and I do believe that it was/is the right thing for me to do given the steps the company has taken since my original review was posted.

Our expectations and experience, from the initial contact for an estimate with Mike Erickson, to the planning, installation and completion of the entire project were positively exceeded. Mike was not only very professional but very and collaborative throughout the entire job. Not having experience in patios, Mike's expertise and personable manner helped translate our concept of the patio into a reality. He made practical suggestions regarding the sitting walls, and their location. The additional suggestion of a planting bed adjacent to the patio really balanced out the total look of the patio with the house. Tile selection was a little daunting and he educated us on the product until we were comfortable with our choices. Any questions we had were answered promptly, either in person, by phone or email. He stayed on top of the entire project by visiting the site each day. The crew worked diligently and cleaned up at the end of each work day. Entire installation took about 4 days. We gave Diversified a "B" on price because it was above our initial budget. But when we saw all that went into the installation of this patio, the quality of the product and workmanship, we felt the price was commensurate. We highly recommend Diversified Contractors to all those considering.....

The company answered the phone, was polite and efficient about scheduling the estimate. The estimator (Don, if I'm not mistaken) arrived on time as promised. He was probably at our house for less than 30 minutes, which isn't a complaint! He was friendly, expert, went right to measuring and sketching, and answered our questions without wasting our time. We got the estimate by email within days, as promised, with all the details clearly spelled out. We got two additional estimates. Theirs was the lowest by a few hundred dollars. However, the work costs more than we anticipated and the patio wasn't renovated. Had we gone ahead, we would have had no problem asking Diversified to do it for us.

I've had Mike and the Diversified Team doing my lawn and yard clean up (as well as garden bed mulching) for the past seven or eight years (I've lost count). They do a solid job and have worked with me to keep my prices reasonable over the years (I have a large amount of land to mow). Mike can be a little hard to reach at times because they are so busy but it's worth keeping after them because the work and price are very good. He's a great guy to deal with and always is pleasant when he comes by.

It was excellent. I meant to pop online and give them a rating of A. It was absolutely stellar. I'll give them an A.

We had a 420 sq/ft paver patio, fireplace w/wood boxes, patio landscaping, and deck stair and minimal landscape lighting installed by Diversified. We got estimates from 3 other landscape companies and chose one based on their design and initial estimate; however, because of very poor customer service and increasing costs we decided to stop the process and contact other companies. After reviewing landscape companies on Angie?s List I decided to call Diversified. I gave Mike our design and previous estimates and he was able to give us a much nicer (larger with a hearth and mantle) fireplace and upgraded pavers at a lower price than all previous estimates. He was very responsive to questions and timely with estimates. We were satisfied overall with the workmanship and installation ? I felt it was very good work for a fair price. Since they did not do the design, I can?t speak to that aspect. Our patio is definitely a great space that we are going to enjoy for a long time! I will try to post some pictures to this review.

Diversified Contractors got involved in the project form the very beginning. They helped me find a structural engineer who designed the wall and then provided the services to do all the work as needed. I requested three other companies to provide me quotes to do the work and this company provided the best overall combination of services and price. Their price was very competitive and their involvement in the project made me decide to use their services to complete the project. The company handled the permits and all the associated inspections needed by the City of Fairfax. The work was done in a very professional and timely manner. Construction is never a clean operation, and while some of the neighbors' yards were damaged during the construction process, Diversified Contractors repaired those yards and left them as they were before the construction operation. Some of the work got delayed due to inclement weather which caused some flooding of the trench where the footers were to be placed. The city inspector demanded the footers' trench dug an extra foot and the wall height extended to compensate for the new depth, all this caused the price of the wall to increase by about 10% once the project started. At the end they had some minor discrepancies with the drawings due to communication lapses with their own employees, but that did not affect the approval by the city nor the appearance of the final product. A very good company to work with.

Great design work. Good collaboration. Very efficient. The work was done quickly.

I was very, very happy with the work. The work has had compliments on it. It seemed to be exactly what I needed. I had given a check or a charge card when we first initiated the work and I was getting messages from the company that I had not sent a check or a charge card. I called them and I had to give them the record that I had and they were very apologetic about it. They removed all the concrete in a day. We had some really bad weather with rain and stuff so they could not do some of the work but everything they said they could do they did. They took away all the concrete and broke it up in one day and they were able to lay the walkway in two days. They gave me a prediction of when it would be done and they stuck with that. They were very good at giving me the range of choices and costs and also just advising what would work and what would not aesthetically as well as technically. When I came back from my vacation, I noticed that there was one of the spouts that did not get buried so I called them and they fixed it up within two days. I don't know if they're a large company or not but they certainly are very customer-oriented and I have recommended them to a friend of mine. They were really good to work with. I thought the price was reasonable considering the quality of work, what I chose and the fact that they had to do engineering work. The salesperson came out to help design everything and the owner of the company came out to do all the technical work and then he came out to check the work of the people who were working on the site so they were really good.
