They did not have the proper part in stock. He told me that it would cost approximately $500 for the part and labor but couldn't get me a signed estimate because he couldn't get anyone on the phone. It took them 11 days to get the part in. He comes, does it and tells me it cost a total of $900, $400 more than originally stated. Now another cold snap and the heater isn't keeping up, emergency heat doesn't work. When I called them back about the emergency heat, he came out and said everything is fine with the emergency heat and I can dig more if you want. I said no. I am dealing with another company now who came out, fixed everything, and didn't take all of my money with them.

This contractor was very prompt and courteous. They were at my house within a couple of days of my calling them. They provided me with a written quote by the following day. Once I had the money available from my bank, they installed my new heat pump and furnace within a few days. Everything went smoothly. They kept all their promises and the new HVAC system functions flawlessly. I heard about the company from one of my neighbors who had used them to install a new AC and furnace with good results. A coworker of mine from Kent Island uses the company to maintain her heat pump and furnace and has a very high opinion of them. But this being the Eastern Shore of Maryland, I'm the first to rate the company because Angie's List doesn't have many companies rated in our area yet. Rest assured, you'll be happy with their service. I only wish I'd used them from the start. Another company wanted to charge me $25,000 for the same job. They told me my house needed new duct work and 2 separate HVAC units for the upstairs and downstairs based on a Manual J load test. I'm glad I was smart enough to get a second opinion. The house now cools and heats very efficiently.

Overall, this company was absolutely horrible. Before adding coolant they are required (by law) to perform a leak check; they did not perform one. This lead to the 4+ pds of coolant leaking out within a month. Keep in mind that this much coolant is supposed to last you 6+ months. The coolant filling had cost 348 dollars and it was all wasted due to their negligence. So they wasted 348 dollars on top of the 108 for the wire that burnt out (and they could've fixed previously). If you're looking for an AC repair company Steele's HVAC is NOT the company that you want. They cheat you out of money and perform horrible short-lasting jobs.
