Extremely satisfied. The did the work several years ago when the unit was still under warranty. They were our first choice to service the unit now that the warranty has expired. Technician was prompt, very competent. Definitely recommend!

Description of Work: had a leak from the AC unit. technicians were young, but serious and competent. they found that the original builder did not drill a proper drain through the concrete. they fixed it, were in my house a long time, and charged a very fair $300 or so.

The air conditioning in my friend's home failed to produce cold air a day before we were able to get any company to respond. The air handler blower was still functioning. I am a long term guest in her home while my home is being renovated after a fire. So we are two females dealing with technical issues that she knows nothing about, though I have renovated a number of houses of my own and others in my redesign business in Florida, and in the past in Annapolis. I deal with A/C systems and specifications a lot. I told my friend that most likely the outdoor compressor unit had failed, and that the condenser was leaking or the compressor motor was no longer functioning. Mike with Real Chill was the first A/C company to arrive for a diagnostic service call. We had also called Zindorf's. I have used Zindorf's in the past for Annapolis projects. My friend had too, but also had an real estate investor who had used Real Chill. She called both. Zindorf's was backlogged but would try to send someone out the day she called. Real Chill was also busy but also said they would send someone out as soon as possible. The following day, Real Air showed up two hours before Zindorf. We knew the equipment was due for replacement, but hoped with the warm weather predicted their might be a temporary fix while we spec'd new systems and got bids. After several trips back and forth from his truck to the outside compressor unit, and the basement air handler, Mike from Real Chill reported that the problem was in the motor coil windings that run the compressor. He recommended a new system. I asked if there was anyway to get the motor rewired as a temporary fix, which I have had done in the past. He said, and quot; No.and quot; I then asked if a dry system compressor could be put in since the system still runs on Freon. He said it could but that a compressor unit would run about 2500.00 installed. At that price a new high efficiency system made the most sense to my friend, and I agreed. Mike discussed a few brands he carried - Goodman and one we didn't recognize - as possible new system options. My suggestion to my friend was a 2.5 ton, 15 Seer system with scrolling compressor by Rheem/Rudd, Trane/American Standard, or Carrier/Bryant brand was what I would spec. We inquired if Real Cool also carried any of those brands. He stated they could get any of those brands,, but proceeded to dismiss our input and discussion, and began to bad mouth those brands as and quot;overratedand quot;. What he didn't know was that I have two houses, one with a Goodman system and one with a Trane. I prefer the Trane. It runs problem free with amazing efficiency in Florida. Mike also stated we would probably need a 3 Ton system for an open two level home with finished walkout basement that stays quite cool in summer. The total square footage of living space is 2250, of which 950 is in the basement. Mike became impatient with my questioning on the sizing of the system, suggesting to my friend that and quot;bigger was betterand quot;. I let him know we were aware that an oversized system turned on and off more frequently causing more part wear and becoming less not more energy efficient. He said to call his office and speak to the sales associate, handed us a bill for the 149.00 service call and went to straight to his truck saying nothing more. To this point, while his manner and demeanor wouldn't win any prizes for conveying trust and customer service. we wouldn't have given he and his company the bad rating. I am used to service companies and their sales pitches, and their surprise that a women knows anything about mechanical systems. This rating is solely based on what followed. Zindorf's showed up only a few minutes after Mike with Real Chill left. Since we needed clarification on the specs and a bid for a new system, my friend asked them to check out the house size and recommend the appropriate tonnage, along with my SEER rating suggestion and scrolling compressor and staged air handler motor. The tech returned and asked, and quot;Who removed the condenser?and quot; Mike never mentioned that he had removed and taken the part, reinstalled a a breaker upside down to prevent shock, but leaving the system open and vulnerable. To charge for a diagnostic service call, and walk off with a part without the homeowner's knowledge is unconscionable, unprofessional, and probably illegal. To leave the system open, vulnerable and missing critical parts is dangerous. While I wasn't crazy about Mike's personality before but accepted it, I can't overlook his unprofessionalism and dishonesty. Real Chill has a problem, and it badly needs a new system.

Response from REAL CHILL HEATING and AC Inc
I just saw this post - this is surely not how Real Chill operates but at the same time could you give me the name the account was listed under or the Invoice # - I have searched by date and amount paid and can't find a match up. I would like to pull the invoice to look into what happened.

Great people, fair prices for parts and service - good experience.
Description of Work: Annual maintenance for 6 or 7 years, and occasional repairs on 18 year old heat pump, A/C. Responsiveness was extraordinary, and on the last service call, the technician returned several times in one day to check system. Have had new heat pump installed, so no recent problems, but would use Real Chill again.
