After getting estimates from several other companies, I decided to go with Chesapeake who had the next to lowest price. Mainly because the owner, Tom was the one who came out to get the estimate, and I understood that the installer would be his brother. A small family-owned business is one to be supported in my book, and one that is honest and professional is a no-brainer. I was impressed from the start with their attention to detail with what I was ordering and all the measurements involved. I did not feel like I was one of several estimates with a salesman whom I would never see again. The supplies were ordered and took almost six weeks, which was explained from the start. Soon after they got the parts in, we set up an install day and everything was taken care of. The installation took most of the day, but went smoothly and there was no need to touch up paint or do anything when they left. I was very pleased with the whole process and would recommend this company to anyone.

Friendly, courteous, no pressure, free estimate, checked to be sure install would go as planned, arrived on time to do installation, finished in one day as promised. Install looks spot-on. Quality Andersen window. Primed area as promised. Explained in detail project scope. Answered all my questions.

Chesapeake Thermal is a very professional operation from start to finish. Our initial meeting provided us with lots of information and an opportunity to investigate options and ask questions. When we decided on a course of action, they spent a significant amount of time going over details related to design and installation, making suggestions based on their experience. They were very careful taking measurements -- double-checked them with a second visit before placing the final order for the door/sidelite unit. Installation went without any problems in a matter of hours. The job was done well, the installers friendly and very competent, the experience worry free. It was a delight to have the job completely finished (including exterior and interior cleanup) as promised. We would use Chesapeake Thermal again.

We felt comfortable with the entire experience. The owner visited the house to provide the estimate. It was pretty strait forward. We also reviewed another contractor, but chose Chesapeake Thermal because they were the least complicated when it came to the overall sales process and were cheaper. The door installation took a day. The installer mentioned after he installed the door he accidentally hit the overhead light. I didn't care because I was planning on replacing it, but I appreciate he mentioned it happened. I wanted to wait to put in a review to see how the door performed in a range of weather conditions. Still working well. We plan on reaching out to them when we replace our front door.

Tom Dawson provided an estimate two months before work started. Tom was knowledgeable in the manufacturers of both doors and windows, the materials used, the quality and costs of their products. He was responsive to every detail of our needs. The installation work started on time and was completed ahead of schedule. Performance of everyone on the installation team was outstanding.

Chesapeake Thermal was great. I asked a ton of questions and they worked with me the whole time. I love my new back door and would definitely use them for any other projects.

Tom Dawson runs this business and is a very reputable individual to work with. We used Angie's list to find him and the reviews were excellent. His performance with us lived up to our expectations. Tom is not a high pressure guy is highly professional. We chose the Andersen 400 wood replacement windows over vinyl (which were much less expensive) because they look so much better than the vinyl. The old windows were Andersen 200's and were the original window in this 29 year old home. The difference is amazing. The crew arrived on time and finished on time. I would highly recommend Chesapeake Thermal to anyone interested in window replacement

Chesapeake Thermal did a very good job on two separate contracts that I signed with them about six months apart. The first contract was to replace exterior doors and the second was to replace some large picture windows. For each job, I got bids from three contractors before picking Chesapeake Thermal to do the work. One bid on each job was from a local, unlicensed contractor that I had some limited previous experience with and the other two bids on each job were "A" of "B" rated contractors on Angie's List. For doors, Chesapeake Thermal specializes in ProVia, which are pretty high end and I expected their bid on the doors to be the highest but I was surprised when their prices came in a little under the highest bidder (an Angie's List "A" contractor). For windows, Chesapeake Thermal uses more than one manufacturer and I picked the manufacture that I thought was the best fit. Again, their bid was a bit less than the highest bid I received. On both jobs, the unlicensed contractor bids were about 60% less than the others, which provides some indication of how much prices can range when you're getting bids from contractors. But those bids was too-scary low for me to have confidence in. One thing to keep in mind is that not all doors and windows are the same and you really have to do your research on the manufacturer to assess whether you're getting good value for the dollar. Chesapeake Thermal is a family-run business and Tom Dawson came over a few days after I called them for each bid and he took measurements. I liked that he was able to give me a verbal bid for the doors right there on the spot for various options. Specializing in ProVia, Tom was pretty familiar with the product and the manufacturer catalog is pretty comprehensive. For the windows, Tom and I went back and forth on different manufacturers over a period of a few weeks and he sent me bids for several options. but he was very responsive with each of my requests. During the whole process, Tom's demeanor was low-key and there was no sales pressure. Regarding installation, on both jobs, when Chesapeake Thermal received the doors/windows from the manufacturer, they called me to schedule installation. There was a bit of a glitch with the scheduling of the window installation because of manufacturer delivery and Chesapeake Thermal had to reschedule the window installation with me at the last minute. But in the case of both the door and window installations, Chesapeake Thermal did a good job of communicating with me. Overall the installations went very smoothly. The crew showed up when promised each day and worked continuously through the day. The only complaints I might make, which are relatively minor, is that when the window installation was finished, I wasn't completely happy with some of the finish/trim details but I let it slide. Also, when the crew came to the house with the windows there were no screens and there was a bit of a scramble to get the screens from the manufacturer after the fact. I would have thought that the installation crew would have checked that before coming out to install. But they were unaware until I pointed it out. Overall, I would use Chesapeake Thermal again. They're not the cheapest contractor but also not the most expensive. But they seem to run a fairly professional and fair operation.

Tom Dawson provided a free estimate and was very helpful providing information on a range of products as he handles several types of doors. There was no hard sales pitch, just relevant facts about what was available that he could install. I had two other estimates and I selected Tom's. The doors were ordered and when they came in Tom stopped by to recheck all measurements against the parts received and set up an installation date. On 12 May the crew showed up on time, set to work and by that afternoon everything was installed, old doors removed and disposed of and you could not tell that all that work had been accomplished. The place was spotless, all interior and exterior trim replaced (and in the case of the basement - improved). Two weeks later the supplier of the phantom screen showed up, installed the screen and everything is looking good! I will recommend Chesapeake Thermal to family and friends. They do excellent work with excellent products.

I think this company did a good job on my window install. I had six windows done and it was about $400 a window. The windows were good quality and the install looks good. One was broken, but they replaced it as soon as they could get the replacement part. I think it took a little longer than he originally said, but probably no more than what the other companies quoted. I guess he was more optimistic because all the companies said it would be a few weeks on special order windows.

The provider set a date for installation and arrived on time and ready to work. The windows were replaced on schedule and a demonstration of its effectiveness was once again given. One new screen needed replacement because it didn't catch securely to the frame. Chesapeake was quick to call and arrange a date for the new fitted screen to be installed. I can feel a definite change in the temperature in the house during the course of this winter.

What can I say? I'm a fan. Tom (owner) came out for the estimate in the spring. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted except I knew that I had to get rid of 4 old and leaky single pane sliding glass doors on one side of the house. And I didn't have a fortune to spend on it. I called 3 highly rated contractors on Angie's List. Tom was able to talk me through some scenarios. He really listened to my requirements, and as such, provided options for me to consider. There was one thing, seemingly minor, that really impressed me. I told him my plans for the (dining/family) room, including the removal of a wood stove and placement of furniture when that was gone. When I talked about replacing one slider, he suggested that maybe I change the opening from L to R, to R to L. He did that because it would be easier to open with the new arrangement, and would line up with a hallway. It was kind of brilliant. And in order to give me a price I could afford, he downgraded my windows from the standard ones he used. Considering I was using single pane windows, and considering that the windows faced a shady area so I didn't need to deal with as much light and heet, this was good enough for me. He was also the only contractor to suggest replacing the siding on one side to cover over the window space I was no longer using. There wasn't a lot of siding to replace, so it was a good decision. As far as pricing, he was in the range with the others. I think he was lowest, but it was close. So I signed the contract, and waited. I think I waited almost 2 months. Tom warned me about that. I approached him at his busy season. They actually started a few weeks early than scheduled. Exit Tom. Enter his brother John. The first thing that surprised me was that John and his helpers were all, well, American. I have nothing against Hispanic workers and had my roof replaced by a very capable team of Hispanics. We just didn't communicate very well. This was nice. John and company were very polite, hard working, and did a top notch job. Every day they showed up at the promised time. There was some miscommunication between Tom and John regarding materials needed, requiring additional trips to the store. And it took John and company longer than Tom anticipated. I was able to work with them on that, agreeing to complete the finish work at their convenience. John doesn't claim to be a master carpenter and since some carpentry and drywall work was needed, I had low expectations. To be honest, I think he did a much better job than contractors that I had used in the past for that sort of work. The molding joints were square; any gaps were minor and totally acceptable. When they had finished, everything was clean. By the way, I love the windows! For the first time I can recall, I had a winter without feeling drafts. At some point in the near future I'm going to replace additional windows and siding, and these guys will be at the top of my list. Just hope the price point is there. :)

The original Anderson windows were installed in 1985 and were starting to show condensation between the panes of glass. Getting 30 years out of these windows isn't bad. We decided to get three bids and used Angies List to select the bidders. We met with the bidders at the beginning of December. Tom Dawson of Chesapeake Thermal met with us to go over the job and sent us a bid on December 9th. We selected Chesapeake Thermal of Davidsonville because of his price, the good Angies List reviews, and the fact that he lives a few miles away (we like to support local small businesses). We signed the one-page contract and told Tom to order the windows. The windows came in early February and work started on Feb 4. The work required the removal of the outside cedar 5/4" x 4" trim before the windows could be removed. I wanted to save the old windows for another project and they were able to save all but three. Some of these windows were large and quite heavy. The crew did a good job and were willing to work with me on the replacement trim. John Dawson, Tom's brother, cut the trim and I stained it before he put it back up. That saved me a lot of time on a ladder. They also made an extra effort to save some interior trim in the sun room so I could reuse it to retrim two windows. They finished the job in three days and worked in the bitter cold and wind. Overall, they did a great job.

I read about the great ratings and they pretty much lived up to everything. I was completely satisfied. The job was great.

Chesapeake Thermal is an outstanding company. I chose them because they are a small family-run business with a good track record, and I was not disappointed. The owner came on Sept. 24 to give the estimate. He was professional and did not try to sell me the most expensive option. My windows were installed on Oct. 31 by a 3-main crew, one of which, I think, is a member of the family. They were clearly experienced and worked as a well-coordinated team. I appreciated that at the end they cleaned up meticulously and carefully re-checked their work. Best of all we went from 40-year old windows with storm windows to nice new double paned windows that keep the drafts out. The new windows have also cut down on the noise from outside. I definitely would recommend this company.

The service provider was prompt and professional from the consultation through to the installation of the windows. There was one thirty day time period of waiting that I did not hear from the company. I initiated a call to check in on the delivery and installation date. Chesapeake may want to consider a check-in with the customer when there is a long pause period, otherwise the work was great!

Met with Tom Dawson (President of Chesapeake Thermal) in January, at the recommendation of a friend that had used Chesapeake Thermal and was happy with their work. He took the time to explain all the different types of windows that the company offered and they differences among all of them. The no pressure approach was nice! After selecting the window type and color, I scheduled a tentative install date, made a deposit and since the window size is not standard, Tom ordered the windows. The 5 windows (4 casement windows and 1 picture window) were installed quickly, but carefully within a few hours. They cleaned the area completely before leaving and so far I have been pleased with the windows. The true test will come in the winter! I definitely recommend Chesapeake Thermal to anyone looking to replace windows.

Most of the companies I called wouldn't bother to take the time to meet with me - unless I was considering replacing a minimum number of windows. On top of that, most companies I spoke with required that both my husband & I be present for a 1-2 hour window presentation. Since I was only interested in replacing the one, this was neither desirable nor tolerable. Tom was good enough to come out to my house to look at the only window I was interested in. Even better, he actually suggested that I strongly consider only replacing the broken glass which would be significantly cheaper & easier than replacing the entire unit. He was very professional & very honest, & I wouldn't hesitate to use him for actual window replacement in the future!

Tom and his brother John did a great job in providing excellent guidance in our choice. Very professional and honest, competitive pricing and top notch, clean installation. The work was done as scheduled and we are very pleased with the company. Will more than likely use them for future projects. We are strongly recommend them to anybody that needs these type of projects.
