I notified the company via register letter- they were returned .I called Griffith Energy who recommended them to me and they informed me that a member of the family had died and that one of the other family members was taking over- that may be the problem. Lindsay would not take my repeated phone calls. I notified the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaintI notified my VISA card who tried to settle the dispute and American Tank would not respond- so we were credited back the $1500 we put as a deposit ;) I don't know if they are still in business- but I would never do business with them again. I'm still not sure why they couldn't provided the documentation that I deserve as part of the contract. As the other reviewer said- it will become a problem when we go to sell the house.
Description of Work: I wish I had read the other review before I hired American Tank. Our story is eerily similar. In April 2011, American Tank removed my underground tank and replaced it with an above ground oil tank. As a part of the contract, they were to inspect the ground surrounding the tank to determine of there was any leakage. On the day of the removal, I was contacted telephonically by Lindsay Kidwell, who stated that there was no leakage noted and they wold be issuing a certificate and pictures within the next few days. The above ground oil tank was installed- no problem. After two weeks, I called Lindsay back and she told me that they had emailed the documentation regarding the removal. I never received them and she said that she would send them again. We never received any documentation.

The initial estimate was prepared and delivered (and accepted) within a week after my first contact in October. I then didn't hear from American Tank until September, when they called on Monday and asked if they could start work that week. A bit abrupt, I thought, but then I found that this family-run business had just lost a member, so I figured I could cut them a bit of slack. Besides, the new tank had been installed, and anytime before the weather turned cold was OK. On the appointed day a crew of 3 showed up with a small backhoe. They efficiently pumped out the recoverable contents into the new above-ground tank, exposed the top of the old tank, cut it open, and cleaned out all old oil and sludge. They then drained, cut, and capped all fuel ines, excavated around the tank, hauled it out, and inspected it and the surrounding earth for leaks. The bottom of the tank looked like swiss cheese, and the soil was obviously contaminated. They then explained the steps required by the state for testing and disposal of the contaminated soil, and the state program of reimbursement for much of those costs. Agreement was reached on a contract for an additional $4800 to cover these steps, and the work was completed the next day. All in all, no complaints to this point - the crew was careful of surrounding plantings, took care to isolate the contaminated soil on the driveway, and cleaned up thoroughly when all work was done. Problems arose when it was time to deliver the completion certification and documents necessary to file for reimbursement. In spite of many promises and apologies, it has been well over two months since final disposal of the contaminated soil and no documents have been delivered. I have waited at home for personal delivery twice, offered to meet the office manager halfway, and been promised email and/or mail delivery many times, but still no documents. I was given the impression that the reimbursement program lasted only until the end of this year, so I may be out thousands of dollars, but still no documents. And without the completion certification, I may run into problems when time comes to sell the house. I hate to get lawyers involved, but ...
Description of Work: Initially, pumpout and removal of a 35-year old 500- gallon underground fuel oil tank, replacing it with clean fill dirt. When the tank was found to have leaks, I additionally contracted for removal, testing, and disposal of the contaminated earth, and replacement with additional clean fill dirt.
